We were drawn into Woody's by all the "flair" that surrounded the little place - wood animal…read morestatues abound! Menu prices were a bit on the high side especially since posted prices did not include taxes! We ordered 3 regular burgers (no cheese or bacon), a large poutine, large fries and 3 drinks and our tab was close to $50! I had to veto the ice cream dessert! The burgers definitely tasted home made - a bit on the drier side but they were generous with the toppings so that made up for it. There's a nice outdoor seating area to eat in. Staff are very friendly and offered things like extra napkins and paper plates to divide up our meal. They let us use the indoor bathroom for our little guy instead of the dark and scary outhouse! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area for a meal you don't have to cook yourself!

More like a chip truck out back of the tourist curio shop…read more Meats are usually reminiscent of the stuff at the bottom of the freezer, so a little dry. Atmosphere: Roadside chip-truck. Picnic tables to eat outside, if the weather is good. Alongside Eels' Creek in North Kawartha, village of Apsley across the creek. Staff: Friendly, in a city-folk way. Food: Chip-truck fare a la carte. Salad, burgers, hot-dogs, chicken-on-a-bun, fries, poutine, canned soft-drinks. Be prepared to wait, check out the tourist curio shop. Fries are inconsistent; either overcooked or kept under a heat lamp too long. Prices: Very high for this area, don't forget to add 13%HST to whatever you order. Bacon burger, fries, and soft-drink $21.00 after taxes. Tip: Plastic cup for your spare change, at these prices thy want your change? Facilities: Portable chemical toilet with hand sanitizer, mmm good! Suppose you could wash-up in Eels' Creek.

Brewer said they use deep well water that has a high mineral content. Makes sense as the area is very rocky. Had the Iron Man, Claim Jumper and a Vienna Lager. Proper 20 ounce pints for once ! Service from Rhea was great. Friendly, helpful and responsive. Great space as well. Locals chatting and a welcoming vibe. Highly recommended.

Bancroft Brewery Pub - A Hidden Gem Worth Stopping For!…read more We stumbled on the Bancroft Brewery Pub on our way to Barrie, Ontario, looking for a quick lunch--and wow, did this place exceed all our expectations! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed by the warm, rustic atmosphere. They have a beautiful patio, which would be perfect on a sunny day, and our waitress was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and super helpful. I ordered the Iron Man Burger, and it was hands-down one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Juicy, perfectly cooked, loaded with toppings, and a very generous portion--it left me full and satisfied. The sauce was so delicious that I wished I had a whole jar of it to dip my fries into too! My wife went with the Fish and Chips, and they were equally impressive: crispy, light batter, tender fish inside, and also a very generous portion. She was all smiles and cleaned her plate without hesitation. On top of that, the service was fast, and everything came out piping hot. Whether you're just passing through or looking for a new favorite spot, Bancroft Brewery Pub is a must-visit. Amazing food, big portions, great service, and a cozy, welcoming vibe. Two thumbs up, five stars--we'll definitely be back!

We happened upon Sun Run Cafe for breakfast one morning because the cafe we were planning to go to…read morein Combermere was permanently closed. So, looking for another option we droves to Maynooth and found Sun Run. It was very busy! There was seating indoors as well as outdoors. With it being a rather chilly morning, we got lucky and snagged one of the tables as another party was leaving. You place your order at the counter and they'll bring it out to you. They have many baked goods like homemade Pop Tarts, Cupcakes and Honey Crullers. But they also have breakfast and lunch sandwich options. The 3 others in my party got breakfast sandwiches, and I got a sandwich from the lunchtime menu. I opted for the grilled cheese. I'm so glad it did- it was great! The bread was baked in house and you could really taste the quality. Then where was 2 types of cheddar with thinly sliced apples ham and some honey. It was delicious and wasn't too greasy or decadent. Everyone else at my table raved about their sandwiches too, including my sister-in-law who got the buckwheat gluten-free option and loved it so much, she made an inquiry as to if she could buy some of the bread to take home. While they don't sell the loaves, it says a lot that she was moved enough to even ask. Overall a great experience here. Sun Run saved the morning- there's a total lack of breakfast restaurants open on Sunday in these parts, so we were really happy to not only get a meal, but impressed by how delicious it was!
