Absolutely struggled to get a refill to the point where I had to flag down a different waitress to get us one. As an entree I ordered the crab pasta special, and we shared an order of truffle fries to share. After waiting another 25 minutes the waitress upon getting us a refill exclaimed "oh your pasta is back here sitting" Would you know it - it was cold. We tried to save things with cake which we got to get up and walk in front of everyone and pick out in the fridge. Man. Would you know it ? It was old and hard. Place needs to decide if it wants to have food or not. Bad experience - and I don't care about sitting in an igloo.

The current exhibit focuses on patriotic and political coverlets (yes, that was a thing!) in honor of the 250th anniversary of the US. Well worth a couple of hours, and you can eat a great meal at Jean Bonnet's Tavern outside of town where more coverlets are on display.

I has been a few years since I stopped here last. I guess you could say that a few things have…read morechanged. From the humble beginnings of this site it has grown into a much bigger thing. Yes, for those that will gripe about this, there is now a fee to enter. $7 is not a bad price to visit. This is now a foundation that oversees the care of the site and all the artifacts housed within. $7 is a decent price to pay in order to help maintain everything. I actually enjoyed the museum part of this very much. So much better than before when you showed up and just saw some outside areas with sparse descriptions. Inside there is an ongoing expansion of artifacts that are still trying to find their spots. Yes, it does feel a bit small in here, that is until you realize there is more downstairs as well. Upstairs you will go through a bunch of stuff. Some interactive exhibits, one in particular sticks out. One where you get pick up a telephone receiver and listen to the newscast from the day. It's a bit from a documentary, so it's not the whole thing, you get a snippet. The display cases are many in here, thoughtfully put together. There are uniforms worn on that day. Lunch pails that washed away underground. Tools. Newspaper articles from across the country. Photos. The most notable item upstairs is the capsule used that day to rescue the miners. And then you go downstairs. If you want you can take in a presentation. I did not do this, I did go through the area and look at the artifacts. The most awesome thing is the news van. This news van from WPXI Pittsburgh that covered the story as it was happening. This van wasn't only at the mine rescue site, it also covered the Flight 93 crash. (A little aside here, travel the few miles and visit the Flight 93 Memorial) Then go outside, if you haven't already. Not much has changed outside. The nine trees that were planted for the miners have gotten bigger, kind of overshadowing the nine boulders. It's quite beautiful.

It brings camps of friends back year after year, and it's easy to make new friends with camp neighbors if you arrive alone. Having been to my fair share of festivals in the past, this one stands apart as possibly the best. *Mini-Guide* Music: EDM, predominantly, dub and its sub-genres. Both big names and local artists take the stages. -Stone Circle: Main Stage, surrounded by hammocks to watch while relaxing -Hemlock Hole: smaller stage in the middle of Main camp, usually more chill/ambient vibe that ends late -High Score: last stage to close at 4 AM, set in a wooden pagoda with tons of video games to be played -New Camp Stage: the smallest of the bunch, often featuring local DJs and competitions Camps: -Main Camp: centrally located amongst the groves of trees, sells out early and most prime camping spots are taken by the end of opening day Tuesday evening. A fair number of good hammock-hanging spots (nice for daytime naps--invaluable for nights if it doesn't cool down) -New Camp: a very short walk across a suspension bridge to Main camp, with a nearby parking lot, accessed from a separate entrance from the rest. A bit smaller, with slightly less traffic than the other options. Lots of hammock-hanging spots. -Hilltop: about a ten minute walk from most of the action, with less shade than other choices. It's closest to the main parking lot, and the only camp with any real hope of cell phone coverage. It's a bit cheaper for tickets here, which typically don't sell out. While a bit less "prime" of a site, for late arrivals, the open field makes for more campground options for arrivals after the first couple of days. Few places to hang a hammock. Amenities: -Food: very limited food vendors compared to most festivals--but enough to rely on if you choose. Pizza, sandwiches, smoothies, and a small store with ice, ice cream, mead (the only booze sold on-site), ATM, and firewood. -Showers: 2 Token-operated shower houses: one behind stone circle, one between Main Camp/Hemlock Hollow and High Score. Bring cash for token machines, and of course, shower sandals. -Medical: Basic First Aid/"Sanctuary" trip tent on site -Electricity: No outlets on-site. Bring your biggest battery pack for phone recharges Toilets: real toilets at the showers, ample porta-potties which are well maintained throughout the festival. Weather: Obviously variable--but be prepared for dust, rain and mud, very hot days and potentially chilly nights. Generally pretty pleasant, though.
