This place is a MUST SEE when visiting Portland! I was shocked by how special and beautiful the mansion and grounds were. If you are interested in interior decor/architecture/history the self guided tour of the mansion is a must! The spaces were beautiful and I learned so much about Portland. The organization who runs the house has done an amazing job maintaining and displaying this magical home. The grounds are also incredible (and free, although parking is paid), and worth seeing just for the view. The gardens are maintained by UofO gardening students and they have done a great job. All together I think we spent about $60 to see the tour and the gardens and it was well worth it. The staff was knowledgeable and loved talking about the homes and the residents! I also appreciate the tour being self guided so we could go at our pace. read more

Fabulous and beautiful historic house above Portland - restored and with period furniture. Those interested in the details of living at that time will find much to see. One caution fir visitors. Our car in the Pittock parking lot was broken into. Nothing to take but expensive to repair the window. There are plenty of warning signs about leaving no valuables. This is a paid parking lot. Wish they would arrange for some security at a popular tourist destination. read more

Overall this was a great experience! First time I have ever been & I picked the perfect day. 75° outside! The tour is done by yourself which is nice. You can go at your own pace! Items that are there are some of the original items that were donated to the mansion they have a Blue P next to the item. Other items there are antiques that have been placed to fit the theme. Lots of photos of the family and context to the photos! This was great. Outside was clean and there were ton of labels for all the plants. Flowers and plants full bloom! We did the WildWood Trail to the Witches Castle! It's a nice hike. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes! 2.3-5 miles round trip. It's a big enough path for multiple people but some areas narrow. The climb down is good but man back up lol you will feel the burn. They have restrooms onsite indoor and then they have a bathroom in the mansion basement. Toilets flush loud don't be alarmed. At the bottom of the trail when you cross the street, there was a porta potty. Map as well. Parking is expensive: weekend Saturday it was roughly $24 for all day! There are benches and picnic tables towards the view! Staff are very nice! Gift shop as well with snacks, plants, jewelry, postcards, and all sorts of items. read more

I've lived in Portland most of my life and this is the first time goong up here. The grounds are lovely, I wish I'd come up here earlier just for that. The house was great, but I did think it would be a little more interesting to tour. Not a lot of original items to look at. I think a $15 charge might be a better price point, Im sure it's expensive to keep up though. One note, you can pay for parking with parking kitty or they have meters at the beginning of the path to the house. read more

Quite a hike to get up here, but a neat old house with some good Portland history. The rooms are staged with various degrees of historical accuracy and they are open about that. The house itself is neat to explore but sadly they block of about 20 percent (mostly servant areas) to reserve for the behind the scenes tours. Not sure if it's worth the $15 to go inside. Some would say yes, I felt it was a little high for what you see. I was disappointed that the bottom floor was a pet photo exhibit rather than more Portland history. read more

I stumbled upon Pittock Mansion completely by chance while driving back to my hotel. I saw a sign, followed it up through the hills of Portland, and ended up at one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I've seen in the city. I'm not an architecture or engineering expert, but the brickwork and craftsmanship alone tell a story, just look at the photos. What stood out most to me, was the sound when I stepped out of the car. The sound of the trees. It was calming in a way that felt almost unreal. The views overlooking Portland are stunning, and even though I arrived before the mansion opened, walking the grounds was more than worth it. You can see the chauffeur's house (on the property) and garage, which felt surprisingly advanced and of course the beautiful view. I understand the grounds are beaming with beautiful horticulture during the spring and summer. Built by the founder of The Oregonian, Pittock Mansion feels like a living footnote in Portland's history. If you enjoy places that combine beauty, history, and a little sense of wonder, this one is worth the stop. read more

I come here for sunset views of Portland not the mansion itself. The mansion is nice though admission is a little pricey and it's worth going once. After that, come here for one of the best views of Portland. All the publicly accessible spaces are so nice already. In spring, the flowers in the front entryway are in full bloom and they are beautifully arranged. At the back of the mansion, you can walk into the backyard and access the view point. You'll also see some nice Japanese maple trees and Monarch Mansion, a garden dedicated to butterflies that's just past the viewing point. Pleasantly surprised how enjoyable the Pittock Mansion is to visit. Besides the complimentary gaze through the dining room window, the historical mansion offers a relaxing paved stroll around the property filled with beautiful landscaping and horizon views of downtown Portland. Unexpectedly was discovering the hiking trails that are connected to the southern portion of Forest Park. Many cyclists pedaling the challenge to crank up and down the hill. My wife and I visitied on July 23, 2026 as part of a combined family visit to Seattle and vacation in NW Oregon. This was our last stop before heading to Seatac to return home. We parked in the for pay lot with a rental car and spent about 40 minutes on the grounds. We did not enter the mansion. As others have alluded, we also experienced a smash and grab. I had left a shoulder bag covered on the back seat floor. I lost $$, glasses, some clothing, meds and a few other things. I did not see the posts in the lot. That was my error. After meeting with a ranger and filing a police report we were 3 hours delayed and made our red eye flight back to the midwest by 15 minutes. There was broken glass evidence of another break in the parking lot, but I did not recognize what it was until after we had been violated. .... With security or better enforcement, I would not return to this venue. We will be out ~ $600 in loss. read more

Windy and narrow road to get up to the parking lot. Parking lot available that is pay to park. This is a great time of year to visit before the crowds come out in masses. This gorgeous 46-room French Renaissance style chateau, now a Portland historical landmark, was built in 1914 by publisher Henry Pittock and his wife, Georgiana. Roses, as well as other flowers and flowering trees, are an integral part of the formal gardens that surround the estate, creating a serene and elegant landscape. The lush green of Forest Park leads right up to the parking area for those wanting to make their way there via the various trails. Even if you don't buy a ticket to explore the mansion itself, it's worth a visit to the walk around the park-like grounds and take in the view. I recently got to visit the Pittock mansion and it was such a joy to visit! We were in town from Seattle, and decided to visit it. Admission price was very reasonable. The mansion is absolutely lovely. You learn all about the history and culture and success story of the Pittock family. The mansion was well decorated and absolutely stunning windows and architecture. It has a lot of modern technology for its time and what was considered modern then. They even have a working elevator which still works to this day. It's the original elevator! There is a lot of space to move around and each room you visit is clearly labeled. There is also a behind the scenes tour that you can take advantage of if you pay a little extra. We took the behind the scenes tour with Nancy, our tour guide, and she was just lovely. She explained everything in detail and gave us a great tour. I highly recommend the behind the scenes tour. It does get busy there in the summer as it is a major tourist destination for Portland. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to the Pittock Mansion and the behind the scenes tour. You will learn some history about the Pittock family and get to take a look inside their beautiful mansion. There is also access to various different hiking trails in the area. Admission is $15.50 for adults but free for members and children under 6 y/o. Youth and seniors also get discounted rates. Parking is a bit limited especially during peak times (Jun-Aug, Nov-Dec, and on weekends). There is only one parking lot at the entrance but it fills up fast so keep that in mind. I toured the Pittock Mansion over the holidays, and it was great! This may only apply during the holidays, but it was quite busy, and it helped to get there early enough to snag a parking spot. For Christmas, each of the rooms was decorated with a different theme, like, "White Christmas" and "My Favorite Things." Doing a self-guided tour allows you to go at your own pace. There is quite a bit of history to learn about, and as an out-of-towner I very much enjoyed learning more about this famous Portland family. The grounds are gorgeous as well, and if it's not too foggy, you can get a great view of the city. read more

A beautiful old home built in 1909 & located atop a high hill, it gives you a wonderful view of Portland. The rooms are full of grand old furniture, although (according to the signage) a lot of it is not from the home itself. But, it also displays modern (for their day) appliances & comforts through out the 23 room home. Ring showers, central heating, an intercom system & an elevator to name a few. There is an entrance fee, but the outside grounds & hiking trails are free. There is a parking fee too. The Mrs & I truly enjoyed our visit. read more

Every year the whole Pittock mansion is decorated in a different holiday theme, and this year it was titled "Winter Wonderland". You can buy tickets online for a specific time frame for about $16 and some fees. The event is available to view through January 4th. This is a great way to grab the gal pals and get into the Christmas spirit. Put on your best holiday sweaters, hats, scarves, have some beverages, a little food and make it a day of celebrating friendship for the holidays. We had a great time. The mansion was absolutely beautiful. Some of the rooms were breathtaking and magical, while others were functional, but they all brought on the holiday spirit and the creativity of the artists and people who went through all the work to exhibit their magic. We are talking poinsettias, fir boughs, trees, lights and thousands of decorations. This is a tradition for us, and you should check it out because it may become a tradition for you as well. read more

This place seems like it would be cooler than it is. Unlike most restored-old-homes-turned-museums that I've toured, this isn't restored according to any specs of the owners. There was so much damage done by flooding that they decided to create "period sets" in each room for various time periods between 1870 and 1950. Most of the furniture is donated from other locations. And it's still an expensive visit. I personally would skip this. read more

We made the trip from Ashland to Portland SPECIFICALLY to tour this place...I'd heard the view alone was worth it...and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! The grounds are stunning, and the view is absolutely beyond compare. I LOVE that tours are self-guided and that the caretaker's/guest house was included. We happened to go on a clear day where Mt Hood was visible, and it took our breath away. It was so amazing that I'd actually tour it again next time I'm in Portland for whatever reason. We learned some fun family facts, yet there is still mystery why these guys built it so much later in life. It's a great rags to (humble) riches story, nevertheless, and it was a true highlight of that city. A definite two thumbs up. read more
