She is very knowledgeable, explains what she is doing and uses a variety of techniques. I've had acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion and gua sha done on me. They also provide insurance receipts if you have coverage with work. Normal price is $70 for acupuncture but if you buy a package deal (5/10 sessions), you can get a sweet deal. Just ask. When it became obvious that she had nothing to offer, I asked if I should drink more water. Her reply was yes just drink more water. The way she said it did not leave me with the confidence that she was sure. I had never been to a Naturopath before but figured it would be worth trying. When Dr V looked at my blood work, she indicated that she understood why my doctor was concerned and indicated that my kidneys were dying. I asked if it was reversable to which she said of course. She set me up on a supplement and said it would take about 10 to 12 months to get my kidneys back to health. A year later my blood work showed that my kidneys were just about back to normal. Since that time each time I have my annual physical I take the bloodwork to Dr V for review and she has guided me through it with the answers I need to address the issues that show up in the blood. I am 68 years old and thanks to Dr V I am not on any of the medications my family doc has tried to get me on over the years. Each time a medication is suggested, I talk to Dr V and she has had the answer either through a supplement or a dietary change that corrects the issue. Most recently I asked her what is the next step in me being proactive in keeping my health instead of waiting for an issue to occur. I just completed a routine to reduce the plaque in my system. After filling out my forms he decided to concentrate on the major areas of concern for this session which was my neck, shoulders, back, lower back and my glutes (bum cheeks). I first received a vigorous massage on those areas, the pressure hard. I loved it! Finally a massage where they work those muscles! I could literally feel the heat of his hands as he worked those areas, my back was hot! Than I received acupuncture, on those areas with a tens machine attached to it. He covered me up and left me for a bit to relax. Just as I was about to snore, he came in and than did cupping. I have been cupped numerous times and usually its about 6 cups. No cups were spared: my back, shoulders, neck, hips and bum were cupped! My cups over runneth! Cups with acupuncture and tens machine! The triple whammy! He covered me up and left me to be for a bit. Well I full fledged crashed and woke myself up with my snoring! After that was done, he wiped the areas with a warm wet cloth, gave a quick rub to stipulate the areas, had me flip over and turned down the lights. Reason #1 to avoid Wellness: If a spa is not toxic, Practitioners should not be constantly bullying clients into getting less services by devaluing their pain and disabilities. WOW staff are taking their personal problems out on their clients. It's actually been difficult to adjust to being treated professionally at other businesses/clinics... being respected, listened to, and valued feels odd... that's how toxic Wellness has become. I've felt such relief since I've stopped supporting WOW... you actually get treated well at other businesses/clinics! "No, I still need weekly treatment, means no, I still need weekly treatment." Clients should not have to say this over and over. As my physiotherapist remarked, clients should not have to validate their chronic pain to you, it's your job to listen. Initially, I gave them a chance to remedy it, however, in the end, I can't trust a place of business with my pain that supported this unprofessional and disrespectful behaviour from an RMT. When I was not well enough one week to get specific feedback to the massage therapist right away, I was told she no longer wanted to work with me. After 8 years of trusting someone, it was a shock. I broke the silence about unprofessionalism, and was fired as a client for it. Unsettling. Reason #2 to avoid Wellness: As another example, the STAFF centred care has become out of control... Products should not be taken off the shelf so you can't buy them and placed back out later. I started buying online so the staff could not lie to me about how much was left of a particular facial product... it's truly unprofessional. Wellness on Whyte has become unprofessional and has come away from client centred care. It's sad. One of the causes may be that the practitioners themselves use the products and services of Wellness, which is already a very small business. Wellness has limited appointments! When the practitioners see you booking services in advance, they become upset. The business model is flawed: It is another reason why it's become toxic. You can't have practitioners pressuring clients to cancel other appointments they genuinely want and need because they themselves want the services/ are horse trading with other practitioners in Wellness. If Wellness was not allowing their practitioners to "horse trade" services etc within the company, then there wouldn't be practitioners competing with clients for appointment spots. Again, highly unprofessional. Reason #3 to avoid Wellness: The more money you spend here, the more jealous the staff becomes and the meaner they get. It's bad business to let your staff bully your best clients. The LESS money you spend here, the MORE they will respect you. A clinic where the staff get a mean attitude when you give them more business, is not a place to be. In conclusion, I never thought after years of supporting this business that they would shift in such an unprofessional direction. They even somehow got my review removed from another platform, which is why I had to post on Yelp, where they cannot manipulate my review. Interesting how they do business here.... I wouldn't trust them with your credit card either, as they will charge you for half your appointment cost, even when you had unavoidable sickness or emergencies. They will waive the cost one time, and not again. The new polices allow them to rip you off, and it will cost you even if you don't get a reminder they were supposed to send. It's truly shocking how much the money matters most here, and yet on the other hand, the more money you spend, the more they treat you mean out of jealousy. Very unprofessional. My advice? I was really looking forward to my appointment but I cancelled before I had it…read more I went online and used the online booking option, first mistake. After that I received 5 emails from Red Leaf Wellness. The first one was to confirm my appointment and I think that's fair and completely standard for business. The second was an email about the scheduling, the third was to confirm the confirmation I had made by a) making the appointment and b) by confirming the first email, the fourth email was a reminder emailing about my appointment, the fifth email was to get me to sign up for their patient records and fill out the intake forms. If your still with me after all that confusion with emails and annoyance of all the emails there is more! This is all one day after making my online booking for a week and half from now. Then after the emails I received a phone call from the office to tell me about the emails and that I haven't completed them. A few minutes later I received a text message about my appointment. I did not agree to text messages or emails but clearly that doesn't matter. I was also told I would need to provide a credit card so that if there was a last minute cancellation or a no show they would charge me. I understand this is for the protection of your business, but I haven't even walked in the door and you want my credit card. I'm trusting complete strangers based on their website with my well being, but after 5 harassing emails and a phone call to inform me I haven't completed your forms, I'm then told you require a credit card?? I'm supposed to trust you with my personal information, but you can't trust me for my first appointment? I canceled my appointment, and when asked if I want to rebook I said no. At the end of each accupuncture treatment, they did cupping on my back. Cupping is not the most comfortable experience but combined with the accupuncture, the benefits and relief are amazing. It's not a fancy spa in a great location - so if you put that idea aside, then it's good. The only off putting part for me is the burning smell inside. I think they burn something for a particular treatment but it smells throughout the building and I don't enjoy it. I find the smell lingers on me after I've left. But it doesn't stop me from going back. Interesting fact - Dr. Joe teaches at MacEwan and has for a really long time.
