I…read moreultimately felt I would've had to teach every part of my service to get it done to licensed standard. Of course I don't want to offend so I can't do that, instead "trust" their process. The issues: 1. My wash was not to standard. I did a scratch test & under my nails showed a lot of buildup still. A scalp should be clean after a wash. I told the girl not to be shy to scrub my scalp...I was only saying it once; I don't think she is licensed. 2. The braid down was horrendous, questionable, laughable. She "finished" and one braid was sticking out on one side, another braid on the other. I asked why didn't she connect all the braids as we agreed - that's how you protect the hair. She said "I tried but.." at that point I'm like you never tell a client you "tried but" there's no way she's licensed and should be doing hair. The braiding she did was loose also fuzzy & not clean. She gets flustered and turns me to tell the owner. The moment I ask the owners name (Mahogany btw) the owner became defensive even though I smiled relaxed just hoping for understanding & a solution. The "expert braider" is sent over to help. She says she can sew or crochet my loose natural braids into the other natural braids. I was confused as I'd NEVER heard that so asked clarifying questions which seemed to frustrate them. Totally over complicating a simple braid down lol. LSS she undos my entire braid down I noticed...mind you I had somewhere to be so without asking we reached hour 3 of a simple wash/natural braid on jaw length hair!!! Tired of the back n forth, misunderstanding, & pride/embarrassment they were all unnecessarily conveying I let her continue with the odd silence filling the air. She crochets my own hair and end pieces are sticking out its fuzzy I said I wasn't happy. 3. I got a trim. The blowout for the trim was not stretched straight and the owner proceeded to clip ends in that puffy state. The brushing of my hair felt rough throughout the trimming process. I've never had someone trim hair in that state. 4. The defensiveness, lack of listening to care therefore lack of comprehension, and pride was so not what I hoped when this is the exact persona ppl place on all black women/bwob that gives us a bad rep. I felt uncomfortable by the back n forth explaining and answering then the wild questions after "Do you want oil? Do you want oil sheen?" Would you seriously not oil a clients scalp as part of service how is that not standard? I had already noted my hair feeling dry. then before I even got out the chair the first girl had my payment on screen $58 asking how I'm paying when the expert braider turns my chair around. Terrible service handling. They can't handle constructive experiences which means they're no good for business. I cannot recommend.

Couldn't schedule a trial until a month before the wedding (when I called in June, they said all weekends are full until mid August - a month before my wedding). I took the risk and agreed to have a trial so late. Anyway, at the trial, the person who did my hair was great, but the makeup artist was awful. I know a little bit about makeup, and I could tell her products and technique were not good. She also only spent about 30 minutes on my makeup, which I thought was really short. I have had professional makeup done before, and none of them have ever been less than an hour. And it did not look good - it looked like something I could have done myself. I tried to explain what I wanted and showed multiple photos, but still ended up looking bad. The makeup started fading about 20 minutes after I left the salon, and by about 2.5 hours later, it was half gone, with powder falling on my white shirt. I was so disappointed. I emailed the owner of the salon, told her what happened, even sent her photos of the work, and asked if she had another makeup person. She then emailed me back, apologized, and asked me to come back for a second trial for makeup at no charge. She also said of the second trial didn't work out, she would refund me. I agreed to that. She then said the makeup girl will call me to set up a second trial. The makeup girl called me and it was the worst phone call I had ever had. She was so distressed and emotional and told me to find another makeup artist! Apparently the owner just forwarded my email straight to the person, didn't explain any further. I found myself in the weird position fo trying to convince a vendor (whose service I didn't like) to work for me! I'm still annoyed at myself for doing that. I just reacted when someone was really distressed, and I really wanted things to work out with this vendor. When I hung up, I had time to rethink and decided that it wouldn't work out. I can't stand the idea of having to chase down someone so they would take my money, especially when they provide me with low quality work. So I emailed the owner, told her what happened, and asked for my trial money back, since I did everything I could for this to work out. She didn't give my money back, even though the staff didn't provide good product and was extremely unprofessional when confronted. I am extremely disappointed at everything. Insert Kanye shrug - don't be mad if I know what works for my hair and if I don't want "stylists" using what I consider substandard products (eg Jam/brown gel/Eco Styler/shampoos with sulfates or conditioners with "cones" in them). If the employee/protégé does not listen and service the client and if the booth renter does not listen and service the client, then I have no reason to return or recommend. I had the protégé twice and two different booth renters. Neither the protégé nor the renters addressed my concerns on any level. I booked services based on my concerns and on one visit they "forgot" and had to take me back to the bowl to provide me the services that I'd requested. Sadly, the booth renters do reflect positively or negatively on the salon as a whole and on the judgement of the owner as most clients are not like me and they do not know the difference since LTL does not disclose to patrons that not everyone working IN the salon works FOR the salon. I found out because I asked. If I hadn't asked, I'd have thought everyone worked for the owner. She really should be more forthcoming. While I was there getting my hair done, I saw some really baffling things from other stylists working on other clients. I mean really, who relaxes someone then immediately bleaches their hair??? Even DIY people know not to do that.
