So, I was looking for a late afternoon cup of coffee and somehow found Cool Beans. It's part of an L-Shaped building that houses Mathews Insurance on one end and Tiki Hutt Tanning Salon on the other. Nestled back in the corner is a hard to see (unless you are really looking for it) entrance for Cool Beans. After parking in a lot across the street, I entered a somewhat densely packed dining room with a large mural on the back wall, a foosball table in a corner, bulk popcorn and candy on the far wall, and an order counter for coffee and ice cream. I was quickly greeted by a woman who came over from the tanning salon who filled my order. Turns out she works all three places in the building! No wonder it was confusing. I will say the coffee was tasty and that the woman was friendly and patient while I made my order. All good there! And though I understand that this business is filling a need with some desired products, I couldn't help but feel even this single business was a little too much. Too many tables made it feel cramped. Maybe if they got rid of the foosball, they could spread out a bit. The gentleman who took my order was friendly and helpful in describing some of the flavors of the 40+ they have to try. I went with the Exhausted Parent... the name says it all, but it is a coffee and bourbon flavored ice cream with chocolate chunks! SOOO GOOD! And got a Carmel Iced Latte for the road. Both are delicious. Perhaps my favorite feature of this cute stop was the bulletin board of gift cards... other patrons have donated money and filled out post it's with the instructions to take one if you fit the criteria. The top of the cake has a thin layer of almost crispy granulated sugar - more sweetness! The bowl is piled high with fresh, lush, red strawberries. Some sweet, most firm and a little juicy. Brewery #281 This…read moreplace understands me, it get's me, I'm partially convinced they tapped my brain or my metaverse and said "Let's make a place that caters to this guy, Da Gabe aka Mike Honcho" Bad Dad has taken dad jokes and made a brewery. Beers named 'Socks and Sandals, Pull My Finger, I'll Turn this Car Around' and many more. Their tin tacker is of a slightly obese dad in an undersized sleeveless shirt, headband and white New Balance sneakers riding a beer can. Perfection. Genius! While their humor got me in the door, their pizza and beer will get me to come back. I got my standard flight with I'll Turn This Car Around (Hazy IPA), Kiss the Cook (DIPA), Snooze Button (Imperial Stout) and a Tapestry of Obscenity (IPA). All were really great but The Snooze Button was my favorite of the bunch. We also got a couple of pizzas. A Detroit style called Motown with thick pepperoni, hot honey, and basil which was very tasty and a Margherita pizza that was solid. My only issue was they were out of stickers for my man cave wall but that's just all the reason to go back next time I visit my parents in Indiana.
