The vibe is good, sure, but the beer is genuinely excellent. Consistently clean, well-balanced, and way better than you'd expect from a tiny local spot. They put real care into what they're making, and it shows. There isn't always a food truck, but that's not much of a downside with Bravo Pizza right across the street. And if you're a Penn State football fan, this is basically a home base. Great place to catch a game and settle in for a couple of hours.

But it's pretty obvious who the Crossroads regulars are -- every time we walk in, there are the same familiar faces. At this point, I'm pretty sure some of them have their own parking spaces. We usually wait until sometime late Friday afternoon to see what the weekend food specials are. That's often what gets us through the door. That, or we're in the mood to listen to some live music. Crossroads consistently has live music on Friday and Saturday nights, which is something we really enjoy. We almost always sit at the bar. We like meeting new people and having conversations, although once the place gets going, it can get pretty loud. Sometimes you're having a conversation and realize you've been smiling and nodding for the last five minutes because you have absolutely no idea what the other person just said. The bar staff is generally friendly and welcoming. Most days, anyway. But we're all human, and sometimes you can tell someone is having one of those days where friendliness apparently isn't on the menu. We get it -- we've all been there. The food has always been good for us. One thing we've noticed occasionally, though, is that what shows up on the plate doesn't always seem to include everything listed in the description. Every once in a while, we'll look at the food and think, "Wasn't there supposed to be bacon on this?" or "Did the sauce take the night off?" Nothing major, but if it's listed in the description, we'd like to see it make an appearance. The mixed drinks can also be a little weak at times. And by "a little weak," I mean sometimes you start wondering if the bartender and the drink had a disagreement before it reached the table. Thankfully, they have the staple draft beers to fall back on. The specialty draft selection could use a little work, though. Overall, we keep coming back, and that probably says more than anything else. Between the food specials, live music, familiar faces, and relaxed bar atmosphere, Crossroads has become one of those places we enjoy stopping into. It's not perfect, but then again, neither are we -- and we've been coming back for years, so they must be doing something right.
