I ordered ahead for carry out as it was the holiday and I didn't know how busy the restaurant would be. I was driving from out of town, so timing really was everything. Surprisingly it was not as busy as I imagined. There was a large party in the party room, sharing their holiday but the buffet was well stocked and staff was pleasant. My order was not ready on time. I waited what was to be "about 10 minutes " that turned into an actual 20 minutes and when I received my order and I got to the car I thought it was missing something so I went back inside only to be told it was completely the wrong order. I gave it to the guy who it appeared to be picking it up. Waiting another 10 minutes for my order the staff said "we gave you 2 extra pieces of chicken for your inconvenience." I spend $68 and waiting over 45 minutes in the restaurant to receive cold potatoes and cold green beans with 2 free pieces of chicken (the smallest chicken wings I've ever seen, btw) If there would have been another option in town, on a holiday weekend ...I would have left. Ate here on the night of coming back to Iowa for a funeral. I've eaten Pizza Ranches all over and they are great. And being a big chicken lover that's what great. Never had a problem with food , customer service or locations. I wish we had one closer here in Mississippi to go to. read more

Arrived at 4:05 pm. Paid $40.10 for 2 buffets. No pizza at all on the buffet. No chicken. They asked if we would like a specific pizza. We asked for a pepperoni. Never came. At 40 dollar salads and left. No service no bussing nothing. What a rip off. And just to make it more of a joke the new diagonal parking is angled the wrong direction. read more

We brought our grandkids to "Kids eat free" night. Please be aware: if you save $.50 by getting the "senior discount" they will charge the full amount for the kids buffet. If they had told us we could save $14 on the 2 grandkids buffets by paying the "adult" buffet price, we would have done that. NO help from the cashier. They charged us for PAPER CUPS. They asked if we wanted paper cups, so we said ok...didn't tell us about the extra charge. Spoke with the manager...his attitude was "tough luck". My specialty pizza was burned. What a night! I went for lunch. Easily the worst Pizza Ranch ever! The chicken was overcooked, dry & tough! So overcooked the coating was almost completely black! Pizzas were also overcooked. It was clear they didn't have enough staff working. Every table had dirty dishes on them. Horrid experience. I went back to the campground & I mentioned I'd gone to Pizza Ranch & the first thing he said was it was the worst store in the chain! read more

I would HIGHLY advise everyone NOT to go to the Boone Pizza Ranch!!! If you like filthy tables, dirty floors, not much food, & TONS of excuses from employees & management... then this is your place. If not, Go to Ames, Ankeny or Story City Pizza Ranch. They are owned & run by a different owner who runs his stores well. NOT like Boone. Very disappointed in pizza ranch, price is now a few pennies short of $15 per buffet, and the entire hour we were there there was 2 pizzas on the buffet, even after multiple requests to get pizza on the buffet, this is the third time we have experienced this at this restaurant. This is your typical quantity-over-quality kind of buffet, a place where you go for a filling meal at a reasonable price rather than for gourmet cuisine. My wife and I tried their Sunday buffet for the first time today and consider the meal a success, though it wasn't a special thrill. Although the name mentions pizza, we both thought the standout item was the chicken. I'm not sure how to describe it. It may be ordinary fried chicken, or it may be what I used to call "broasted" chicken as a kid. It looks like fried chicken, but the breading seems a bit lighter than one typically encounters. It is, however, very flavorful and tasty. There are also side dishes, including thick potato wedges and mashed potatoes; I had the former, my wife the latter, and I think I got the better of the deal. The pizza was adequate for a buffet but would not be the kind of pizza I order a pie of for a meal. One nice thing, though, is that when you order the buffet you are asked if you have a pizza preference, and then they deliver the first slice to you at your table and put the rest on the buffet. My bacon cheeseburger pizza was pretty good. I also enjoyed the garlic cheese bread, though it didn't rise to the level of the "smotharella sticks" at Jeff's Pizza in Ames. There's also a salad bar but I didn't get around to sampling anything from it. For dessert, there is one of those machines that you can get soft ice cream from (vanilla only, and no sauces or whipped cream to put on it) as well as "cactus bread" (sort of cinnamon flavored pizza crust) and both apple and cherry dessert pizza. I just had the ice cream. Next time I think I'll combine the ice cream with the root beer from the pop dispenser (soda pop comes with the buffet at no extra charge) and make a root beer float. Service is friendly but not always super efficient. When we first ordered our buffet I gave the guy behind the counter a coupon for 2 dollars off each buffet. When he told me the price I asked whether he had deducted the coupon amount and he said he had forgotten. So he prepared a credit card statement for payment and then I had to point out that the coupon specifically said it was two dollars per person, not total. He didn't know how to deal with this and had to consult the manager, who told him how to void the original charge and start from scratch. So, I wound up wasting about six or seven minutes getting this dealt with. He was nice enough, though, and quite apologetic. Bottom line: an adequate if unspectacular meal, and certainly worth a return visit. read more

Chicken wings are considered a special order, costly, and mediocre pizza came to $52.73 which was what the employee totaled for food, delivery fee and taxes, wrote a check to cover food, delivery guy says it is $58.08 not including his tip. It's a Pizza Ranch... Hohum pizza, decent atmosphere, but the kids like it. If you're looking for great pizza, the ranch isn't the place to go. If you're looking to fill your stomach for 10 bucks, this is the place! This location was clean and the staff were nice. read more

The quality of this location has went further and further down over the last year. The last few times we thought were just an exception, but tonight was the last straw. Our experience started sour, when we were told that our coupon was no longer valid if used with a gift certificate/Ranch Bucks. At 5pm on a Sunday, the pizza on the buffet looked stale and leftover from lunch, many of the items were dried out. We requested to pizzas to be delivered to our table, and when they arrived, both were overcooked and dry. The cheese on both pizzas was crispy and the crusts hard as a rock and overdone to the point both were nearly black. The salad bar was filthy, salad toppings missing, and those that were present were mixed with contents from other containers. The salad dressing bottles were sticky and unsanitary. The chicken was extremely greasy and overdone, and the macaroni and cheese had an "off" smell and color, and tasted fermented. We stuck around a bit, waiting for the dinner crowd to come in thinking some of the selection might refresh but over the course of an hour, not ONE SINGLE FRESH PIZZA was added to the buffet despite a fairly steady trickle of traffic coming in. The cheese/crushed pepper is no longer on the tables, and both forks we picked up were dirty. Unacceptable! This was $20.00 wasted. We came home hungry, and angry. We will not be coming back until something is done on the management level. I wish we could get our money back. read more

The food here is as good as it gets for a small town. They try very hard to keep the food fresh. The place could be cleaner, but it is often VERY busy with parties, sports teams, etc. The food bars are clean, overall, but they could also be better. Still, I often go here when in town. read more

I really love there dessert pizza! So I hope everyone realizes that pizza ranch is not some crummy old pizza place that has bad food!!! So my husband had never been to a Pizza Ranch before. I used to love it!!!! Not anymore because of the Boone location. The food was lukewarm at best. As I was getting a salad another customer said to an employee wiping down the salad bar, ( cuz there were 6 people in the restaurant at the time and no messes on salad bar) ,that the tea was empty he showed her the clear liquid he got from the tea machine; she looked at him and smiled and continued wiping nothing down. 5 min later he is still waiting for tea, and she goes back to cashier area and he says again remember that was the tea that's out. She turned and smiled again. He never got his tea. My family and I got our drinks and I was getting a straw for my son and nothing was coming out. I saw the same girl and said I think your straws are empty, took off the top and grabbed straws, again she looked at me smiled and walked away. I was shocked by this experience.
