I gave her my order and rather than the manager allowing her to continue, he strongly coached her in front of us when she was 100% doing the right thing. Managers do NOT need to coach an employee front of guests unless it's an urgent situation. I've been in corporate America for way too long to not know how wrong this is. I've been here probably every 2-3 weeks or so, over the last few months. Street parking is hard to get here, so I do the carry out, usually on Sundays. I've come to really enjoy the pizzas from here. Yesterday, I got a single size double pepperoni and cheese bread. The pizza was really good. Very filling. So, later, when I was trying the cheesy bread, which was room temperature, it had a "pull". It was uncooked in the middle. This is the first time, after getting orders here DOZENS of times, that I've ever had any issue. I called the store and customer service was stellar. This place might become my weekly Sunday take out place. I add arugula to all my pizzas, so I can call it a salad. As for yesterday's pizza, I had the pesto sauce as the base, with the pepperoni, garlic, more garlic, balsamic vinegar, pesto and ranch drizzles with that arugula. It was SOOO good! They burn the pizza EVERY TIME I go there. I always have them remake it. This time I had shoulder surgery and couldn't drive. My friend picked up the pizza for me and told them to make sure the pizza isn't burnt. They told him if they use fresh dough it won't burn. Long story short. They burned it. I called back to see if they could fix it. They wouldn't give me a credit for the burnt pizza. They refused to give me a refund. They said the only way to fix it is if I drive there. I told them I just had shoulder surgery and that's why my friend picked up the pizza so coming back isn't an option. They said they can't do anything for me. Absolutely abysmal customer service and quality of the food. It tasted like burnt garbage. Called back and the manager said he has all my personal information and if I call again (I called twice. The food was delicious! We ordered the dough knots and 2 pizzas and had a whole pizza leftover (2 adults and a 1yo). There are a couple high chairs and the musc was loud enough, but not obnoxious, that it didn't matter when the toddler yelled. The staff was also very nice. We visited over the summer and were able to park about a block away (behind) at a meter. I would have bothered trying during the school year. The broccoli would've been way easier to eat if it was cut smaller and the edges of the floor were nasty. That being said, I would visit again! read more

Blaze pizza is a really well placed restaurant on Lincoln Ave that makes a it a perfect lunch spot for students at Iowa State. I would consider it to be the Chipotle/Pancheros of pizza which lets you choose all of your toppings that you want on the pizza. It really is a fun idea and all of the ingredients seem fresh and it is kind of fun to see how quickly your pizza cooks in the oven. For those with a really big appetite you will probably find that the pizzas are slightly on the small side but it is fairly reasonably priced. I think the differentness of the experience plays into an inflated view of how good the food is but you definitely will not be disappointed, it is a nice place to go get lunch with a friend. read more

Ames finally has a-blazingly good fired pizza. Thank you Blaze for coming here. The food here is as good as the other locations in central Iowa. These guys know how to expand without losing the quality and most of all the service. Just like the other locations I have been to in Des Moines and West Des Moines, this location has a very friendly and attentive staff. What's to like at Blaze? If you ask my son, it is the whole roasted garlic on his pizza. No where else can you get such high quality fresh roasted garlic. If you ask my daughter, it is the white sauce. She never gets white sauce on her pizza except when we eat at Blaze. For the first time, the adults tried the salads. Oh me oh my. Extremely good. Very rare do I give a low score. Unfortunately ordering a custom pizza that comes out burnt is just awful. Our pizzas were not the only ones that had problems. The staff just did not care. Smoking in the bathroom is also unprofessional & against the law. This Blaze is HIGHLY not recommended which is sad because it's in the heart of campustown. Living in a college town offers locals a chance to experience restaurants we normally wouldn't find in other communities. One such place is Blaze Fast-Fire'd Pizza. The concept of Blaze isn't anything new. There are other places like this one (even in Ames) such as Smoakin' Oak or a place like Pie Five. They do a personalized wood fire pizza made to your specifications. The layout works well. When you go in the door you order right away and move along down the counter, watch your pizza be constructed, watch them put it in the oven and then get it hot and fresh. Like I said, not an original concept, but it works. If you're trying the one in Campustown be sure to go while the students are gone. I can imagine this place can get pretty crazy during the school year. Also, being on Lincoln Way means the parking isn't great. Don't expect to get a spot right in front of the business unless you're lucky. Okay, on to the pizza. They have several pre-made pizzas you can pick from or select your own toppings. They aren't super-expensive, considering you get a 12" pizza or at least close to that. The crust is really good, nice and chewy and crispy just the way it should be. I feel like they skimp on the toppings. Pizza is all about the toppings for me and when they don't give you much you kind of feel slighted. The pizza I had was all meat (not sure what it was called) and for being described as a pizza with a lot of meat I didn't feel like much was there. Would I recommend this place? Yeah, I think so. It's alright, but I wasn't blown away with anything considering how many people have told me that it was really great. read more

Okay, no judgments, but I have never been to one of these fast fire pizza places before. I know, I know, they're the fastest growing quick serve foods in recent years, but we never really had one in our town. I actually never even heard of them. Suddenly, 2017 brought us two within months (and blocks) of each other. I went into Blaze with zero expectations. The way articles discuss this fast fire thing, I assumed it was like fast food, but pizza. Like S'barro or Fazoli's or Subway's pizzas that no one seems to remember is an option there. Well...I was very, VERY wrong! It was so interesting... I don't really know how to describe it. I mean, in a way, it sort of is like Subway. You stand in line; you choose your crust, sauce, cheese, toppings, as you make your way down. The quality of the all ingredients appear fresh and their variety is extensive. Beyond that, they can be healthy*! Plus, adhere to vegetarian and similar lifestyles. In addition to this, the customer service was friendly, welcoming, and very understanding to people taking this experience in for the first time. Each service member (there are a few you meet as you walk the Path of Pizza) was articulate and happy to explain the process. When you reach the end of the road, you pay and they pop your pizza in an oven right behind you. Just moments afterward you receive a delicious "personal" pizza. I use quotations because they are generous in size. My wife and I were able to share one. Last thing I'll mention is the pricing. Let's see you're a cheese person. I hope you are. I prefer only "cheese people" to view my Yelp material. You can get a freshly made, evenly baked, well portioned, cheese pizza for $4.99! I was blown away by this. Normally these 'hip' places try to gauge you. I'm looking at you, Starbucks. I know you see me. All in all, this was a really neat experience that ended with me eating a delicious pizza. Stopped into Blaze on summer evening thinking it wouldn't be busy because all the students are gone. I was wrong. Blaze was packed! Must be all the good reviews, I thought. After waiting in line for ~15 minutes I was able to order. I like that Blaze has pizzas on their menu that you can customize. I ordered the Art Lover pizza and my husband got a build your own pizza. Few minutes later we were taking our pizzas to go. When we got to our destination, we realized that we got someone else's pizza, not the custom creation my husband made. He was pretty upset as the pizza we received did not have things on it that either of us would eat (like, Canadian bacon). I called Blaze to inform them of the mistake and they offered to remake the pizza or credit us. Well, we were hungry so we chose to have the pizza remade. It was a bit of a hassle to get the wrong pizza and send someone out to pick up the correct order, but Blaze was apologetic and gave us a free pizza voucher for the mistake. Perfect way to show they care about customer service. Once we got the correct pizzas and ate them, my husband and I concurred: they were very good. The Art Lover pizza I ordered was delicious and my husband devoured his custom pie. I am deducting one star because I think the crust could use some work.
