To start out... I'm not a local, I come to Ames once a month for work and love to try new bars and restaurants.. Figured I'd give this place a try! The feel and ambiance... mixed with a touch of nostalgic. Upon entering you are greeted with tables and chairs inches from the door. We thought that we entered from the side door. There was no host stand or sign stating that you should order in the back at the kitchen. We were confused. During our meal the radio was playing, and not nice music but a crude talk show that happened to be talking about someone getting a Brazilian wax... You'd think the place could pay for Spotify or music without ads... The booths were a tad old and crusty - But I suppose that's where the nostalgia comes in. The food... much to be desired. It was all cheap just okay. Everything lacked flavor. Nothing to write home about. The salads were massive and a great bargain. The cheese bread was disappointing, it was just melted cheese on a sub bun with store bought sauce. For a location called sauce and dough company. This was expected to be a highlight, but ended up being something that could easily be made at home. The pizza was decent, but confusing at best. For someone's first time, I'd expect there to be signs or mentions that the honey should go on the crust... I only found that out after once I read reviews. The crust was dry and lacked flavor without the honey or other seasoning... Am I the only one that thinks that you should not need honey to make pizza palatable. Also, if you add honey you add 70 cals each tablespoon. I know I didn't come to eat healthy but also... Everyone is right, so many toppings and cheese. But again, lacks flavor. The prices... very reasonable. We got two large salads, two beers, an app and a large pizza for $50. Very reasonable. Overall, I won't be back but am glad I at least tried an Ames staple.

This seems like your average local pizza place but what's special about it is the honey crust combo! The workers are kind and it's a casual spot where you order at the counter and take it to a table to eat.

My friend and I went here before a basketball game and it was perfect! It took around 20-30 minutes for us to get our food, which was super fast considering it was game day! My friend and I shared a small Denver style pizza and we were only able to eat half the pizza before we were full! Additionally, we got a side of cheese garlic bread and dipping sauce. I loved the pizza, and would definitely recommend the Denver style as it's wheat dough! Super delicious with the honey as well! I would definitely come here and recommend it to my friends. As far as the pizza, the dough is super thick, but good; the cheese is really thick which does make it a little messy, and the sauce is so so good. Definitely a unique pizza i haven't had anywhere before!

My favorite cheese on a pizza ever. I grew up going to this place and every trip back to Ames I make sure to stop by. The atmosphere is so cozy and retro in all the right ways. They accommodate so many people on busy nights and do a great job getting the food out quickly. Sometimes they even call your number like it's a basketball game, which is fun.

We ordered way to much food. The cheesy garlic sticks were awesome. The cheese pull was insane. We got a medium sausage and a specialty pizza. They both were amazing. Lots of cheese. We took majority of it back to the hotel. The place itself is cute. Nice wood work. Neat decor. It's small and gets crowded around the ordering area. Definitely loved this place. Worth the try!

My family and I are from the Chicago area. One of the things Chicago is best known for is its pizza. With so many great pizzerias to choose from; we have come to develop extremely high pizza standards. After a long five hour drive to bring our son to ISU for orientation we stumbled upon this marvelous gem conveniently located in the heart of Ames, Iowa's downtown. Now if Midwest nice was a thing, this pizzeria has it in spades. The staff and the owner is capital c: Completely unpretentious, approachable and very customer focused. We ordered a simple thin crust, large, half pepperoni, half sausage and mushroom pizza. We we impressed by the quality, flavor of the sauce and texture of the crust. In fact, it tasted s one of the best pizzas I have had. Overall, it was the welcomed taste of home we were looking for and set the bar high for all other restaurants we visited while in Ames. The walls are decorated with an eclectic mix of art and photos from times gone by. They held our attention until the delicious, cheesy pizza arrived. It was so good I complimented the chef on the way out. This place is so wonderful, I am looking forward to enjoying another pizza the next time we are in town. In a few words: Simply outstanding.

Great pizza and the whole clan loved it! Was it the best pizza I ever had, well no probably not but for Ames it's probably one of the best places to eat in town! I have a theory (or learned once) that there are crunchers, chewers, smooshers and suckers. Crunchers like foods of course that are crispy and can get a good crunch. Chewers like to savor it a bit longer with a good chew and well you get the idea. The pizzas we got were all of those things for all Crunchers, Chewers and smooshers for sure and that is very rare. Fresh chewy dough with a light crisp on the outside, juicy vegetables and meats, great flavor and stringy thick cheese. Very tasty sauce to go along with it. We will go here again. Cold beer in frosted mugs and service was quick even when the place had a line almost out the door. Make a visit if you haven't already, it's totally worth it.

Pizza was delicious and crispy! We also got an m&m monster cookie for less than two dollars and it was as big as my head! Still warm and gooey and perfect. Couldn't even wait to eat the pizza first! The service was to the point and friendly. Loved the old style decor! Felt like a classic Midwest pizza place. Love it!

Great vibe. Great food. Denver crust with honey is the best. Make sure to check it out when visiting Ames.

Best pizza in the county and you can get it by-the-slice at lunch. Good Main St. location.

An Ames staple! The honey with the crust is the perfect combination. I love that they've kept the original personality of the restaurant.

Came in on a weeknight with coworkers and received good service and fantastic food. Nice drink menu (I enjoyed their take on the old fashioned) with cocktails and a nice craft beer selection. Everyone loved their food, from the barley soup to the ravioli, burger, Brussels salad, and the salmon I got. Hidden gem perhaps was their incredible dessert selection. The cherry tart was a pleasant surprise and the salted caramel chocolate cake will def fix a choc craving. Would gladly come back.

Pork Belly app: thick cut pork belly in lettuce cups, topped with sweet thai glaze, pickled carrots, onions, celery, mint, thai basil, cilantro, scallions and crushed peanuts. A tad sweet for me but overall this was a great app. Slice of Sourdough: delish. Chicken Japchae: since my mom has celiac disease, we were very excited to see this on their menu - dining out with her can be a challenge. Especially at a place specializing in breads! The only unfortunate part about this dish is (I think) they forgot they already salted the chicken and salted it again...and then again. I'm not one to say something is too salty, I love my sodium but this was mouth-puckering salty. Inedible, actually, but the noodle dish itself was SO GOOD that she set the chicken aside and ate the entree. NY Strip Steak: perfectly med-rare, served with a garlic-rosemary potato pavé (like a potato casserole of sorts), roasted broccolini and a house steak sauce that was similar to a demi glaze. Not a bite left - no leftovers with this one. I ate the whole dang thing. Myself. And I have zero regrets. Crème Brûlée: I also couldn't leave without ordering a crème brûlée because there are some really bad ones out there. This did not disappoint. I also took home a Dubai Chocolate tort, Raspberry Crumble and a Flourless Chocolate cake. ZERO regrets but if you love Dubai chocolate then you know there are some discusting renditions of this in the market. However, the Dubai chocolate tort at Provisions Lot F is . I can't even describe how delicious this was and is worth the drive to Ames just for this dessert. If you're north of DSM for a game or whatever, I highly recommend Provisions! I'm already scheming a way to get back there...soon!

Racist. They close at 1 am but I currently walked to them at 12:49 am. They said they were closed…read morebecause they locked the doors. I then proceeded to show them that they close at 1 on maps. Then the employee decided to get a manager? Then the manager per say walks out and tells me that they were closed for carry out but open for delivery. I said well okay I guess I'll just order for delivery. I then called the papa John's phone number which is obviously an remote worker. The phone worker gives me the two options of whether I'm ordering for carry out or delivery. Weird since I just walked to the physical store and they say they are closed for carry out. Well then again I am an African American with dreads so why would I get the privilege to walk into their establishment when it's "closed." Now I ordered delivery which will take an additional 35 mins when I literally live across the street. Hopefully they CHOOSE to serve me when I place an ONLINE order. Currently waiting....poor customer service. Update just got my food at 1:10 order total was 31.16 I handed him two twenties. Then he tried to just walk off as if he wasn't the one who told me that "we're closed." As hes running off I say my change? "Oh shit I didn't realize" no but why did I have to ask him for my change? For what reason would he just try to take his own tip. I then said that I want my change. He replies, "how much do you want back?" What or how is that confusing on I want my change. So having to do math with no receipt I say I'll just take $8. He quickly replies, "no you can't do that" I can't get a carry out, I can't get my change back, now I can't get the right amount of change back? After figuring out math in his tiny brain he says oh yeah you can do that. Then had the comfortably to say oh yeah it's pretty dark. Can you double check to make sure I gave you $8 . Do I intimidate you that much for you to not know how much change you literally just gave me? Lucky I even proceeded to give money for very poor customer service. And lucky that I can't post my doorbell camera video on yelp of horrible service
