The service here is terrible. I was in Rome on vacation, and I am from the United States. The way the waiter and waitress treated my friends and I was disgusting and wondered if the culture of Italian restaurants is often like this. For one, the waitress acted like she didn't know what I was saying despite speaking Italian (a little broken admittedly). She told us to get the most expensive meal, with the picture of the meal beside a lower priced menu which was a little deceiving. When I asked for the check, another waiter gave us someone else's check which was much more expensive and this has never happened to me in my life. After I told him, he just takes it and gives ours, no apologies or sincerity at all. Just seemed annoyed like are you for real? Meanwhile I can see the waitress complaining about me because I joked that the menu picture was on a different page from the actual price of it, originally thought it was 10 euros for the dish but turned out to be 17, which honestly isn't the biggest deal but still light heartedly pointed out. And I can see now all the waitresses and waiters pointing us out, like I can tell from their body language. You'd have to be stupid to not recognize, and you'd have to be even stupider to motioning these action insulting us from that close. As we're getting up to leave, I can hear them in Italian calling us stupid and insults. I was honestly shocked as I did not give out any spiteful, cruel gestures/vibe at all.
