Get ready for bad microwave food, rude staff and a "manager" who swears and threatens you if you have anything to say! We stepped in from the heat after a full day out showing Rome to our kids. We are a party of 5 (3 adults, 2 children) And just so I dont forget, they also brought an extra bruschetta that they took back and left on a counter waiting for the next person to order. Something I also took a photo of right before we left, it was still there! 1 Penne pasta with olive oil 1 mixed salad 1 green salad 2 mozzarella and tomatoes 1 bruschetta 1 sautéed spinach 1 melon and prosciutto 2 water 2 cola We were smart enough to look at the pizzas leaving the "wood oven" they claimed.. it wasn't even in use! YOU GUYS ARE ALL SUCKERS IF YOU BELIEVE THAT Everything came out of a microwave! The spinach was frozen spinach tossed on a plate and shoved in a microwave oven.. how to you know you ask? Easy! Frozen spinach comes in "lumps/balls" fresh or cut spinach does NOT. If you sauté something in a pan, it doesn't remain a set of lumps either. These balls would barely come apart when picking at it with a fork. The mozzarella was OLD.. like REALLY old.. to the point it had dried up edges and even tasted sour.. The tomatoes were cut so long ago.. that I made a comparison with a tomato I had cut and left in the fridge back at the hotel 24 hours prior.. and my tomato had not dried up even remotely as close to what they served. The melons had gone bad and had that flavor of STAY THE F AWAY FROM ME, the prosciutto served with it, dried up and crusty from laying out and cut for too long. The Penne pasta should have been good, such a simple dish and made with dry pasta (No you gullible fool not fresh pasta) Served in a pan but the pasta comes out cold as ice and dry like a bone.. how is this possible you ask? Well again.. if you give people microwave food and throw it in a pan after.. the pan will appear to be hot but if you flip the dried up lump of pasta you'll see they even though the pan is rounded in the bottom the pasta is flat! Proving it has been warmed up on a plate before set inside the pan The mixed salad was not even washed/rinsed.. sand and even hair was found. The bruschetta you say, surely they couldn't mess that up?! Oh but they COULD, even this came straight out of a microwave oven! Mozzarella melted like rubber and wet the whole bread into a mess. The green salad, dirty. But hey at least the water and Coca Cola came out decent.. decently warm.. Which of course brings us to the staff! We counted no less than 6 servers taking care of 4 tables. Yet.. none of them had time to take care of a single table.. talking among each other and smoking.. Isn't it strange it took almost 38 minutes to get the other order of tomato and mozzarella salad even though they were ordered by the same table? Isn't it strange that the food that comes out is almost as old as Rome itself? We ended up sending ALL of our plates back.. not a single person wonders why or can we help or can we bring something else.. They even try to upscale and charge us for things we don't have. When complaining we have to wait an additional 30Minutes for the fat "manager" to get to the register and refuse us us. This places serves dangerous food to people and endangers their health by doing so. Serving old mozzarella cheese or bad melons is a great way to get exactly what we got.. food poisoning and this is without eating more than a fork or two each. The manager threatens us with violence, police and with bad language.. Any tour that stops by this place gets a cut by doing so that's something I'm Ready to bet money on! read more

Based off of the old reviews I do wanna say that I don't think this place is scammy or a tourist trap anymore HOWEVER my jaw is now injured from trying to eat their gluten free pizza. It was so overcooked it was hard as a rock. I feel somewhat guilty because my friend and I were talking about how bad it was and the staff definitely overheard and they were all so sweet but please..if you need gluten free save yourself A LOT of pain. We went for lunch and had the pizza. We thought it was just pizza we were going to eat, but came out transformed with their pizza. It was absolutely delightful !! We savored every bite. The waitress was very helpful . The prices were very good. Not expensive as we thought it was going to be. The following evening came back for dinner. Dinner was very nice. We ended the evening with limoncellos. Very good. For lunch they did not ask for tip, but for dinner it was like they insisted . This was by far the most amazing meal I had in Rome, and probably one of the best meals I've ever had. The menu had so many options that we just couldn't pick one so my friend and I decided to share a Marinara Pizza, an order of mozzarella carosa, and handmade pasta with tomato sauce. Everything exceeded my expectations! The pizza was thin with just the right amount of sauce, and the mozzarella carosa was cooked to perfection. It was crunchy, and filled with cheese that pulled with every bite. But my favorite was probably the pasta. For an extra €2 you get the daily handmade fresh pasta, and boy was it worth the extra money. The sauce had a slight kick which added to the flavor, and the tomatoes were delicious. I probably could've eaten an entire second plate of the pasta! On top of the food being incredible, the staff was friendly and welcoming, even with my limited understanding of Italian. Now this p;ace is yummy! It was so good we went back a second time on our visit to Rome & we will return on our next visit. Great food, environment, and service. I was walking back to my hotel with my family and we decided to stop here for dinner. The waiters were very friendly and accommodating. We were originally seated near where they bring out food from the kitchen, but a table cleared up so we asked to move. This was after plates and utensils had been brought out for us already, but the waiter still readily helped us relocate. We ordered the following: Capricciosa pizza- Definitely recommend!! Lasagna- pretty standard Tutto pranza cappricciosa (large mixed salad) - Comes with tuna. Also pretty standard Linguine al cartoccio (mixed seafood linguini)- GREAT! November 2012: On my last night in Rome prior to going on a cruise with friends, we were in my hotel room having drinks. We had dined earlier in the evening at a bar enjoying the evening Apertivo. Around 11:30pm, one friend said to me, "I'm not leaving Rome without having a pizza." So off we went. I asked at the front desk (Hotel Parlamento) for a good pizza place that was still open. Pizza Ciro (http://www.pizzaciro.it/) is located just down the street from the hotel. The place was mostly empty except for about five or six tables. The walls are decorated with murals of old Rome photographs, with pretty tile work on the lower portion of the walls. The menu had a long list of pizzas at various prices. The pizzas listed for two or three people were pretty expensive (16 euros and 23 euros respectively, if I remember correctly). I couldn't see the reason to select one of those, so I suggested since we weren't too hungry to just share the Margherita pizza (9 euros). We ordered some wine too. I have to say this was some of the best pizza I've ever had! The dough was crusty and thin, the sauce the right consistency (not watery or overly thick), and just the right amount of mozzarella. We loved it so much that we ordered a second one! We really enjoyed it. Service was fine and our pizzas were brought out quickly. A wood burning stove cooks pizza in just a few minutes. There were other items on the menu, but being a pizza place, I'd stick to just the pizza. read more

Our hotel recommended this place as a spot for locals. We ended up eating here every day we were in Rome. Prices for wine carafes were best we found so we started the night drinking here. The mozzarella is fresh and melts in your mouth. We ordered the "pizza for 2" in which you select up to two toppings and its large enough to feed two people. The waiter made many attempts to recommend his toppings for us, but finally allowed us to pick our own. For dessert, i ordered tiramisu which was made in house and absolutely delicious. I give it four stars because on our 3rd day and last day, a few members of our table ordered tiramisu and everyone got a different dessert. Apparently they ran out but tried to convince us that it was all the same thing. It clearly wasn't! Either way, service is great and they accommodated our group in splitting the check which many places dont allow. read more

Stopped at this gem of a restaurant at random and ended up loving the place. We had the Pizza Diavola (Red Sauce, Mozarella, and Spicy Salami) and it was wonderful. The sauce was so rich in flavor it was like they pureed sun-dried tomatoes to make it, and although they only use small amounts of salami the flavor is so overwhelming you'd think the pizza was covered in it. And the whole thing is cooked in an actual wood fired oven you can go to the back and see. It looks too that all toppings are freshly cut from cured meats they keep hanging in the restaurant and so everything is as fresh as can be (Pre-cut Cured meats oxidize and lose more flavor) As well, I thought the price for 5 people consuming about 5 pizzas, a Caprese Salad, Regular Salad, and Cokes would cost us well over €100 ($113) but it cost more like €75 ($85) or €15 ($17) per person. Not bad for rome. TIP THEM EXTRA. THEY DESERVE IT. They're older Italian gentlemen who wait the tables, but yet they're fast with service and they love to joke with their guests unlike alot of places in Both Rome and Venice where the people were anywhere from awkward to downright rude. Also if you're coming in with larger parties of people don't worry. The front of the restaurant may look small, but there's a hall that leads closer to the back where they have larger spaces of seating that can accomodate 10-15 people. read more

Although this place isn't fancy or upscale, it does serve quality italian food for a reasonable price. Seems like both locals and tourists frequent this spot. We went here on our first night in Rome on the recommendation from our hotel, and it ended up being one of my favorite meals in Rome. The three of us ordered a the pizza with spicy italian sausage, and added buffalo mozzarella instead of the regular mozzarella. It was exactly what I came to Italy for! Although my friend wasn't very fond of it because it was a little soggy, it is what I imagine real italian pizza to be. Very thin crust, and VERY flavorful - drooooool! In addition to the pizza, we also shared a plate of their special pasta that night which was pappardelle with mushrooms. The mushrooms were "fancy" ones, and quite delicious! I was a bit hesitant to eat here as it seemed very touristy/they had big screen TVs on the walls showing them making the pizzas which made me think I was walking into some over-rated tourist trap, however, a local recommended the pizza so we had to give it a shot. I went in with low expectations, however was pleasantly surprised with their pizza. Definitely one of the best neopolitan pizzas we had while in Italy- all of the ingredients were fresh, crust charred slightly-to perfection in the wooden oven and the buffalo mozzarella was delicious- seriously, you must ask for it to be made with the buffalo mozzarella! While walking around Rome, my wife and I got caught in a rain shower, feeling hungry and trying to get out of the rain we found Pizza Ciro. We walked in and weren't greeted at all. I quickly noticed why, there was a soccer game playing on the television which had captivated every employee in the dining room. We made our presence known and were sat. The waiter gave us menus and continued to watch the television. Along the walls there were multiple signs posted about not tipping and that it was to the discretion of the patrons, which was weird since this was the first time i've seen such signs in Italy My wife and i werent terribly hungry so we decided to split a pizza, since this was just a short stop. We placed an order for the Bufalina and a mineral water. When the waiter asked if we were ordering anything else I told him that we would be splitting the pizza he smiled and muttered something in italian under his breathe. I'm pretty sure he wasn't stating how happy he was either or what a great selection we had made. I looked around the dining room and saw a mixture of italians and tourists scattered throughout so i was hopeful for the quality of food. The food came out quickly and i have to say the pizza was good. ingredients were fresh and tasty and the pizza temp was perfect. When we finished we asked for the check, paid and left. Again to more moans and muttering from the waiter. After the cold shoulder and then the muttering in italian my wife and i were not inclined to tip. Overall the food was on point at Pizza Ciro but the service was terrible. As others have mentioned the waiters are pushy and passive aggressive when it comes to tipping. The restaurant is also very touristy as stated. There's plenty of pizza places in Rome that serve pizza just as good if not better and cheaper, and had much better service. This was our first dinner out in Rome and it was great. In the states, Margherita Pizza is simply red sauce, basil leaves, mozzarella, and tomatoes. So I made the rookie mistake of ordering this kind and it's pretty much just cheese pizza with a sprinkle of basil on it. Still good, but not what I had in mind. My hubby got the buffalini (sp) pizza and enjoyed it. Pizza crust was chewy and seafood pasta seemed to be olive oil based. Would recommend the seafood pasta if you like the olive oil type pasta. Very good. Can't say much about service. Yum, yum, yum!!! The Husband was googling restaurants near our hotel and Ciro popped up. Of course I yelped it and then decided we should definitely try it out. We were seated in the covered patio. Although the restaurant was fairly empty, the canopy supports for the patio can require some maneuvering when getting to your table. The Husband ordered the Fettucini a la Ciro and I had the Spaghetti a la Bolognese. Let's just say the Husband's meal prompted many people who arrived later try to figure out what he was eating. The Husband stated it was the best meal he had during our European spring vacation. The only way I can describe the food I had was nice and light. It was the first time I had pasta and didn't feel stuffed. Maybe it's the sauce or the pasta, I don't know. All I know is it was good and want more. We had a nice meal here on our first night in Rome. We were welcomed warmly and seated quickly, otherwise the service was a bit slow. I was very thirsty and had to ask for water twice before they brought it over (and the waiter basically waved me away like "stop asking" after I asked the second time.) The buffalo mozzarella pizza was good, plenty of cheese and tomatoes on top. I had a pizza that was listed as having broccoli, but it ended up being a green leafy veggie that smelled like broccoli...? Could be the translation that got us confused.
