Pooh and I came here for lunch today. The restaurant itself is big on two floors (main and lower) the main floor has windows on two walls, one brick wall and one glass looking at the kitchen. Our server was very pleasant. We started off with a half Caesar salad each and then we shared the Dei Compari pizza. Also we ordered a pint of Moretti The salad was the perfect size and just the right amount of dressing. I don't usually have the croutons because they can be chewy but these were very crispy The pizza was delicious! The toppings were great and the crust was soft and chewy in a good way This pizza was supposed to have Italian sausage on it but neither of us tasted it nor saw it. Also we received the salad and then maybe 30 seconds later the pizza. We were sitting at a table that couldn't have more than two people so when the pizza arrived we had to move items around so we could eat both at the same time When we finished our salad the bowls sat there through the whole meal. There were at least three servers here so I thought one of them could have come and removed the bowls to give the table some breathing room The food was great; the service needs to be improved. read more

This is one of my favorite Italian places in Montreal. Well situated on Rue St Denis, it is very convenient to anyone going to festivals near Berri-UQAM or the Quartier des Spectacles. They have outdoor dining as well as indoor tables. We got a some garlic bread and two pizzas....lots of food for three people...we actually took some leftovers home. The pizzas were nicely cooked, with nice brown crisp edges and nicely melted cheese on top. Our server was very pleasant and talkative. Nice cozy place for some great Italian dishes. read more

This place, Pizzeria dei Compari, is solid. I've eaten here before and didn't hesitate much in going back, unlike that other popular pizzeria north of here that's cash only and to which I won't be returning. Pizzeria dei Compari is quite close to a pizzeria you might find across the pond in the "old country." The variety is there, the ingredients seem to be of high quality, the crust is dialed in, and the pizzas are just plain tasty. It's a popular place and it might be crowded. And, like an authentic Italian pizzeria, it keeps late hours. Part of that could be that it's on St.-Denis in the Quartier Latin near the center, which is one restaurant or watering hole after another, most of which didn't seem too interesting to me. (I was actually looking for a slab of shepherd's pie from this Irish place - or any Irish place - but that might have required too much horsepower from the kitchen, given that they kept it pared down to bar food.) I instantly knew I should and would be returning to dei Compari. Servers do their best to be affable while busily attending to various tables. The prices are appropriate for what you get and it's really convenient that the amounts you see on the menu have all the socialistic taxes already rolled into them. This might be helpful for splitting the bill, calculating a tip, or if you don't like dealing with cents and odd numbers. Some people actually don't. I had a "quattro stagioni" pizza, which I tend to get more than half the time. I could figure out what most of the ingredients were except for "palourdes," not knowing that they have menus in other languages. These would be clams, or "vongole." I don't think I have seen seafood on a "quattro stagioni" pizza, even though it would only be on part of the pizza. This was accommodated by instead having more of another ingredient placed on the pizza. I don't think there's a shortage of good pizza restaurants in the Montreal area, but I can confidently recommend Pizzeria dei Compari and, moreover, it's convenient to almost all of Centre-Ville. It has earned its stripes as a reliable pizzeria, it has been around for quite a while, and, in my estimation, it's a strong 4 stars kind of place. read more

Wow, so this is a hidden gem that I rediscovered after about 10 years. In fact, I've had so many disappointments with tourist trappy restaurants on this block (not to mention many beggars) that I completely ignored the area. I think I have finally found my favourite Italian restaurant in Montreal. Yay! I ordered veggie tomato sauce pasta, gratin style, which was the best decision. Cannot begin to describe how flavourful and delicious it was. Their staff is super friendly and very helpful with the food and wine suggestions. We went on a busy night so the food took longer to come. Their tiramisu was the bomb! Flavourful, right temperature and great texture - just perfect! Visited this place on sat evening and had a line queuing outside. Waited for about 30 min before we were seated. Really wanted to try their pasta but ended up having their Marine pizza - the one with clams, shrimps, and onions. The pizza overall is OK, but I really like their cola drink they got which is made with maple syrup - u can really taste the syrup in the cola. Maybe too sweet for some, but I think it's brill!!!! Alright, so I had ordered pizzas for delivery from this place back in January, and it was amazing. Thin crust, lots of toppings, very reasonable price (I think it was around 12$ for the 4 cheese pizza?). Clearly the best pizza I've had in Montreal. And the order arrived quite fast too. Fast forward to today: we were in the area and decided to try the sit-in experience. I had a good memory of the 4 cheese, so I took it again, noticing a slight price increase to 16$. No big deal, it was well worth it. Sadly, they were not as generous with the toppings this time. The description on the menu says "gorgonzola, goat cheese, emmental and mozzarella", yet my pizza barely had 2 pieces of gorgonzola, and there was overall less mozzarella than in my memory. Oh well. Still a great pizza, with a thin, perfectly cooked crust, and quick service. I'd probably actually give this place 3.5 stars, but I was surprised and delighted that all prices on the menu actually included taxes. This would still be one of my go-to pizza places. read more

Heard the pizzas are baked in a stone oven, just like how it's supposed to be done, so we decided to give it a try. We were seated at the terasse, on a warm summer night. Very busy street and good atmosphere. We had the 'Dei Compari' and the 'Marinara' pizzas. The 'Dei Compari' was a bit burnt on the edge, but it was still delicious. The tomato sauce was very good, the amount of cheese was just right. The combination of flavors was excellent. The only thing that was somewhat of a let down was the italian sausage. It wasn't very tasty, it might as well have been mushrooms. Maybe spicy sausages would be better. The 'Marinara' (with shrimps and clam) was better than I had anticipated. I love seafood, but I don't get too excited when it comes to Montreal seafood. To my surprise, the shrimps didn't taste like seaweed (as they do in some restaurants). The pizza had a perfect hint of seafood taste, totally not overwhelming. Good flavors in general, coming from good combinations of ingredients. It comes down to about 18$ per pizza with everything included. The portion was relatively huge, so I hope you're hungry when you show up. read more

We ordered homemade pasta (Alfredo) and a 5 cheese pizza. Both we customized to add chicken with no issues. We were told there would be a 20 minute break but were pleasantly surprised when it was only 10 minutes. Walked into this pizzeria while looking for a place to have a quick bite to eat shortly after arriving in Montreal. This place did the trick! We got seated and our order taken right away. We ordered the garlic bread and then a Pizza to share. Our order came right away and they were both very good. They have a wood burning oven and the pizza is prepared from scratch right before your eyes. Affordable and good, what else can you ask for?! Amazing pizza!! Maybe the best in the city. It is thin crust, made in a wood oven, with plenty of toppings. We had the Marguerita pizza and 4 cheese pizza. The Marguerita was so good. The pizza maker (who was very impressive by the way) put the basil underneath the cheese so that it wouldn't burn. The basil tasted so so good like that!! The four cheese pizza was essentially 1 piece with mozzarella, 1 piece with gorgonzola, 1 with emmenthal and one with goat cheese. It was delicious! The gorgonzola was a little too liquidy. It kind of just spilled, but I'm sure if we would have waited for it to cool, it would have been fine. It was all so delicious! We will definitely be back! Also, the menu prices include tax.
