This cozy Italian restaurant hugs a walled stream that comes down the mountain and serves some of the best Italian food we've had including our frequent trips to Italy. The place is decidedly low key. You are greeted by Mario a French speaking Italian (little English but you can get by) who is laughing and joking and making sure you have a memorable meal. For such a small place, they've got a huge number of options on the menu from pastas, risottos, meats, fish and pizza plus a few of mamma's recipes; at least 50 options. No English menus but I promise you know enough Italian or French to decipher most of it. The wine list-there is no list-just empty bottles sitting on a wine barrel with neck tags to indicate the price. I found a brunello for under 90 Chf! A great bargain. And speaking of bargains, the massive plates of food are priced mainly around 30-35 Chf. We were a group of 4 and each ordered something unique: creamy and luscious carbonara, vegetarian friendly eggplant Parmesan with its fantastic red sauce, a bacon and red sauce pasta and the decadent ravioli with black truffles (amazing!!). We shared a bruschetta to start that was made with very fresh and tasty ingredients. What a great find! If I lived nearby I'd be a regular. At these prices and with this quality coupled with Mario's fun style, you can't have a bad meal here. Highly recommended.

The English speaking chef came to help us choose our menu. What a great surprise with his recommendations. The food is individual freshly prepared. Pasta is steaming hot and seafood salad is loaded with a variety of seafoods. The Italian ham, melon, avocado, grapes and mixed seasoning greens are so fresh and appetizing. My future trip to Montreux and neighboring cities will definitely promise a return to Al Cilento!!
