If you're looking for a place to go for an emergency DON'T go here. You'll die waiting may as well just stay home.

yea manhasset and LIJ have the new renovated maternity ward, but i'd rather have the attention and the special care that i need than staying in a "nice room".

A Lifesaving Experience for My Son's Broken Arm - Exceptional Pediatric ER & Ortho Team!…read more After a terrible experience at another hospital (Cohen LIJ), where the ER team failed us and no one followed up, we were referred to Nassau University Medical Center by our orthopedic specialist. From the moment we arrived, the care was "night-and-day different". Pediatric ER: The wait time was shockingly short, and the team was incredibly kind. My son, Tristan, was seen immediately, and 4-5 different nurses checked on him regularly, making sure he was comfortable. A compassionate Haitian doctor (I wish I got his name!) was thorough and reassuring. Emergency Surgery: We were admitted for an urgent wrist surgery due to a broken bone. The resident orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Omar Saleem (Precision Orthopedics - 161 Willis Ave Mineola), was outstanding. He took the time to explain the procedure in detail, answered all our questions with patience, and treated Tristan with so much empathy. The surgery went smoothly, and I felt confident in his expertise. Post-Op & Discharge: After a 3-hour wait (expected for emergency cases), RN Jin Young Lee handled our discharge with exceptional care. She reviewed all instructions clearly, ensured we understood follow-up care, and was genuinely kind. Hospital Environment: Yes, the building is older, but it's well-kept, clean, and organized. Even the restrooms were neat--something I don't take for granted in busy hospitals! I'm truly saddened by the negative reviews because our experience was flawless in a high-stress situation. If you need emergency care (especially pediatric) or a skilled orthopedic specialist, I highly recommend NUMC--and ask for Dr. Omar Saleem if you need bone-related care. Thank you, NUMC team, for restoring our faith in medical care!

Brenda, I doubt you'll ever see this review, but you truly made the experience special. You were informative, welcoming, and made sure everyone understood exactly what to expect and where to go when the big day arrives. My partner and I were actually the only people on the tour who already had children, while everyone else were first-time moms and dads. It turned into such a nice experience because some of the other parents even came to us with questions or for advice whenever Brenda stepped away for a moment. It created a very supportive atmosphere. During the tour, we got to see the labor and delivery area, as well as the postpartum rooms. We also happened to see a new mom walking through the hallway with her newborn, which was such a sweet and special moment. Another nice touch was seeing the statistics for how many baby boys, baby girls, and twins had been delivered there this year. The tour was extremely informative and really helped ease any confusion about where to go and what to expect on delivery day. The hospital renovations also look great everything feels updated and well maintained.

As a patient who just got discharged the day of writing this, I find just how little we've…read moredeveloped in creating a safe and caring facility for people with disturbed minds or people looking to get clean. The constant reprimands of the staff (specifically at night) would create an increased amount of tension in everyone on the unit. When I was restricted the day before my discharge, I was told I wouldn't be allowed to be going off units for group, fair. I wasn't not at all informed that they would confiscate all (and I mean ALL) of my clothing and possessions including woman's products and clean changes of clothes. And to top it all, when staying on unit while everyone else had left, I was not allowed to communicate or even sit near the other patients who were restricted. I understand that teenagers are not always sound of mind or judgment, but it's extremely hard to see needs not being met such as not opening any bathrooms when we desperately need it and having someone end up urinating on the seat, than it's hard to ignore and push it aside as "teenagers being dramatic". One of the most upsetting things was seeing the life being sucked out of all my peers, as they felt they were not getting the care they were promised to have received while being admitted. Even worse was seeing 14 and 15 year old girls get pumped with so many meds they turn into lethargic zombies. When I would ask what medication they were given, most of the time they were not able to answer. It's disheartening to see a system that I at some pointed wanted to contribute to so badly (I plan/planned on going to school to become an art therapist), turn out to be such a twisted tail. I will admit that there are many staff workers, at least on my unit, that were truly a pleasure to be around and made my experience a little more tolerable, and social workers and doctors (depending on who) seem to truly care about helping stabilizing the minds of the adolescents on unit. In conclusion, the fries are baller!

I have been quite hesitant to write a review about this craphole of a psych hospital but it does…read moreneed to be addressed if it already hasn't been. 8 years ago I had a severe relapse of my neuropsychiatric condition that began back in 2009. 8 years ago I was transferred to this hospital from Stony Brook University hospital and man was I in for a rude awakening! Don't let the outside of the place fool you, disguised as a homely location with flowers and all. The care is very subpar and almost nonexistent. I've never been treated with such disrespect. The nurses were rude and almost had a holier-than-thou attitude about the patients here, it's as almost if they didn't really care at all and was just there for the paycheck. I could not even talk to the medication nurse as she was unbelievably snappy and curt. Even the doctors were unprofessional. They don't fully listen to your immediate concerns, not using careful deductive logic & input from the patient and not only that but over-prescribe you meds that you probably don't even need. (I know I didn't, since then I have successfully tapered off most of those medications, SUCK ON THAT!) I also could not sleep at all because of the other patients making noise and being a constant threat to my safety and sanity. We were often mixed in as general population inmates in a prison and you never know whether you've made a friend or an enemy. Sharing rooms with others was pure hell. The suicide watches were disturbing as someone who is always watching a patient while you're trying to sleep. Who the hell wants someone there watching while you sleep!? Uncomfortable. The front desk would not take your requests seriously, at one point I complained that the heating was set way too hot and they said that the plumbers were working on it. Days later, and we're still in 80 degree heat. Unpleasant. In short, this was no picnic, it was hell. I think I might have actually gotten worse while there, so I opted to leave after 2 or 3 weeks. (thanks to my family and my brother who angrily said to the staff that did not belong there!) I instead preferred to recover at home which provided me the quiet and safety I needed for my unique position as I was very sensitive and am a shy quiet individual. I'm glad to report I am doing much better 8 years later living my best life and can speak freely when I say that this place ABSOLUTELY SUCKS! IT DID NOTHING FOR ME - If you ever have a crisis, DO NOT GO HERE. PERIOD. (I only gave a 2-star review as it wasn't all completely bad. The food was delicious and tasty, almost gourmet. I even enjoyed the turkey sandwiches they brought out after late-night, it was the only thing that calmed me in there. There was also one nurse I remember who was the ONLY one kind enough to treat us with some bit of dignity and respect)

The issue is that a person cannot contact Northshore's billing department. You have to speak to a Customer Service Representative who has no idea about the billing process. My daughter was in the hospital on 8/18/15 at the doctor's request. A few weeks ago, we get a letter from Northshore that Rachel owes over $1000.00. The letter stated that they made many attempts to call and write us. That letter was the "first" notice we received for that particular hospital visit. We called our insurance company and we were told that it was not medically necessary for my daughter to go to the ER and that she could have gone to an urgent care center. If she is told by the doctor to go to ER, that is what she is going to do. I Checked the EOB on the website, It appears the staff doing the billing for the hospital did not code the visit correctly. Furthermore, while checking on the billing for the lab, I noticed that there was unbundling. Certain things are supposed to be billed as one. We sent a letter to the hospital and copied the insurance company. We received notice from the insurance company that they received the appeal. Today, a representative from Northshore calls for my daughter. We thought it was in regard to the letter sent to Northshore. We called them back and discovered the call was from their Collections Department. As far as I know, when a charge is being appealed, the collection process is supposed to be put on a freeze. We spoke to a Customer Service or Collections representative at Northshore, and was advised the billing cycle does not stop. In addition, we were told that they don't have record of the letter on file. The letter was faxed and mailed, so they definitely received it. On a final note for this review, I must say that I am curious as to why we have to speak with Customer Service representatives and cannot speak with someone in the billing department of Northshore LIJ now known as Northwell Health.
