The…read moreshop is located on the small strip of Sint-Amandsstraat, amidst several other coffee places that give the street it's very own character. Margritt stands out thanks to its large window that frames an aesthetically pleasing minimalist bar where a La Marzocco FB80 is proudly displayed. A very welcoming lady greets us from behind the bar as we walk in. As we approach the bar to order, the barista tells us to kindly take a seat, she would take our order at the table in just a little while. We walk through the small but cozy shop, and with the language barrier half-way down we order our drinks and toast to start the day. The meergranenbrood, which I assume to be multi-grain bread, is a delightful treat spread with jam. The lattes and cappuccinos taste great, frothy, warm, and sweet, drunk in that early rainy morning. The espresso is a welcome return to what is served in specialty coffee shops, but might have still needed a bit more of fine tuning. We walk out into the rainy day, delighted and satisfied. The lady who doubles as a barista and owner wishes us well as we keep admiring the lovely little shop. We wish her the best as we take our leave, hoping one day we'll come back to relive this moment.

It's very ornate and guilded, but it still might be worth watching your footing on the way back from the toilets. The cafe serves good pasta, salads and snacks. All salads come with cold peas and beans, which can be great or rather bizarre, depending on your taste. As is the custom in Belgium, each coffee or cold drink comes with a little sweet or savory snack; in the case of Medici, these can be very substantial. You can order a coffee with what in the UK would be the equivalent of a cream tea. Service is efficient, but can be a little distracted.

The steak was amazing. I've been suffering a bit living in Germany and only getting Argentinian steak. The local raised steak was excellent, tender and was served with a garlic butter. Crisp pommes was a welcome addition. The cheese croquettes were also perfect. A bit speedy, but on par for what you pay for croquettes in Belgium. Finally, the waffles were divine. My family spent the remainder if the trip trying to find waffles that lived up to this one. Light and fluffy and crisp on the outside. Highly recommended and the service was professional, friendly and they do speak at least English and Spanish in addition to Flemish.
