I've been coming to Planet Beach in Brentwood for over a year, mostly for their great tanning services, but recently I won their raffle for a week of free spa services for myself and a friend--and it was amazing! I was so excited to finally try all the other treatments they offer, and I gave the extra pass to my daughter so we could enjoy it together. I especially loved the Hydration Station, Full Body Red Light Therapy, and the Cyber Relax massage with the Luminous Facial (yellow light). I followed most of my sessions with a stand-up tan and felt absolutely incredible afterward--so relaxed and pampered! My daughter had a wonderful experience too. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and Bree at the front desk is especially amazing--she made everything easy and welcoming. I just moved to the Antioch area and needed to find a good tanning salon. I found Planet Beach on Yelp and read through the reviews. Some were complaining about the owner, so I was hesitant at first. Ironically, my first visit to this salon I was able to meet the owner and talk to him. I think he is a very pleasant and honest man. I find him to be very customer service oriented. They offered me a complimentary service and took the time to explain their different membership levels. I was not rushed or pressured to sign up. They have all kinds of exciting services that range from spray tans, UV tanning, massage chairs with light facials, to the hot works workout. The facility is clean, well organized, and their customer service is impeccable. If your looking for a one stop self care facility. This is your place! Don't hesitate and check it out for yourself. Always receiving a txt stating their promotions. Called and spoke with a rep. Stated they have $15 spray tan today and asked what this includes she just stated premium so I booked the appointment. Rushed to the salon and checked in, just to be informed the special was only for dark spray tan. That's 3-5 shades darker from my skin tone. Mind you, I'm Asian with an already olive skin tone. So therefore, I drove to the salon and wasted gas for nothing because they weren't forth coming with what the special was. I guess I needed to be specific and ask what spray tan was on special??? Been a 'member' for several years, mostly as a result of the lack of competition. But there is another option once again in town, and I'm done with this place for now until things change. Some of the staff are great, some not so great, but, that"s everywhere these days. So why quit and go to a new place? Well, for starters, bulbs haven't been changed in the beds for awhile, and you can tell, the ones in now are not effective any longer. The place is not well ventilated, and it either too hot or too cold. The cleanliness is mediocre and they recently ruined what was a great polished concrete floor by putting in linoleum and not finishing the job (It's shabby looking, along with the man-cave couch in the lobby that saw its best days back when the 49ers still played at Candlestick - and if you do sit on the couch, be prepared to have someone's ass 4 inches from your face while they check in on the little kiosk next to the couch). And about that kiosk, you will have to check in every single time you come in, which is not that bad, but you have to scroll through agreeing to the same boilerplate legalese that you did when you originally signed up, which is pretty ridiculous (by comparison, other places have you check in, but only to select a bed, and they use a barcode reader that you can have on your keychain to speed the process up). Most of the beds and one of the standup booths are pretty well worn, and probably past their useful life, except for the one brand new bed that gets used maybe once every other week because they charge so much money to use it (and no, not all members have access to all beds). Finally, be prepared to receive long and wordy phone calls from the owner if you complain here or in person about the service or anything else (or in person lectures if you don't answer his calls). In the end of the day, that's a lot of small things for the price you pay when you consider that they call themselves a 'Day Spa', but I'd go back if even some of the gripes were corrected. Added up in total, now that there is competition in town again, I'll try someplace else and wait and see. read more

I recently joined for the spa services, mainly the slim capsule. I am concerned because it doesn't work properly. The computer is messed up and sometimes the vibration doesn't go on. Makes me concerned with the temperature inside, is it safe? This place would get 5 stars if they got that fixed :) it was the main reason I joined their membership program. First of all, the beds are old and the membership is a scam because you don't get treated like a "member", you still have to make appointments for a tan, they still charge you an arm and a leg for lotion and I could never get the bed that I wanted. Was only offered the option of the old broken bed that hardly blew any air during the tan. Also, when I was told that in order to cancel I would have to come in the last day of the month to cancel, they then proceeded to charge me $99 to cancel!! Or to give them a 60 day notice and pay an additional 2 months! This was horrible customer service in my opinion, especially since I have been a customer for years and never complained about their terrible service in the past when I was disappointed about not being able to tan in a properly running bed:( I am just really disappointed on how they treated me. They also never discussed the different options available with my membership, made me pay additional for the nicer bed, which there is only one available. I also sent a claim into the attorney general regarding your use of private information on a public forum. I don't have a problem with you addressing me but it is against the Yelp privacy policy and general business privacy practices.. Just an FYI...No one uses there full name on here genius. Do some research and some observations. Look at each one of your reviews. The names listed on YELP are literally a nickname/name and a last initial. I'm not trying to hide...Im literally entering in information asked of me from YELP! I had joined here for a few months and started to tan then I found out I was pregnant I notified the spa that I would no longer be able to tan because I'm pregnant. They told me ok that I'd just have to come close my account I recently got Covid and I'm quarantined and now I get a notice saying that I owe them 310$!! When I've never even stepped in their spa since i called them and told them I can't tan anymore. The least they could of done was hold my account closed until I can come in to close it given the circumstances. Now I'm going to tell everyone what pieces of shits these people are. I was just at this location and I have been here before. I need a quick tan and I forgot my wallet. They didn't have Apple Pay which is fine. I had payment for credit cards on my phone so my cards were not working. I was asked to wait so the girl working there could help the other person til I could find a card to pay with. No problem! Then the problems... the girl didn't have the bed or room ready she had to clean it while I was standing there speaking to her. Then I get into room for the stand up bed, apply my lotion and realize there is no towel because I wanted to cover my face. I had to open the door to ask for a towel, and she asked me to wait while I'm in the room standing naked, then I get into the stand up and the bed was not turning on. I had to get out of the stand up takeoff my eyewear and stick my head out the door to ask her to turn it on which took a second. Then I get in the bed and it finally turns on and there is no timer display visible. I didn't know how long I had while tanning. Not the best experience for $42.00 read more

I want to be fair in my assessment. For years this was my go to place for alone time as a busy full time working mom. I had my account on auto pay and that was fine by me no issues at all. I did have a couple of issues over time regarding extra services I had paid for but nothing that I couldn't have worked out with the staff there. In April of last year I thought I may have had Covid. I reached out prior to results to determine how I would go about canceling. I felt like it was time due to not feeling well and also feeling like the environment had changed there. When the results came back positive the next day I contacted planet beach that evening and explained that I could not come in to cancel due to covid. My information was taken down and I was told that my account would be cancelled with me opting for immediate cancellation and that if the manager had any questions or needed anything else I would be contacted. Months later I noticed I had continued to be charged for the membership. I believed I could not use services and had not been there since even prior to April. I attempted then to handle this by email to have a running paper trail however I was constantly told to call so I did. I spoke with the manager and was told that she would cancel my account and back date it to April but she refused to refund me for the months I believed I was cancelled and did not use services. I then contacted my bank. They attempted to contact planet beach and after numerous attempts to resolve they refunded me the amounts. Fast forward from June of last year to January 2023 now. I receive a call that I was sent to collections for $540 which they explained was for April through December of last year at $60 a month which is what I was paying. I called on 1.2.23 and was told by the manager that she did not see my account as cancelled. I forwarded all emails I had and requested to speak with the owner. I did not hear back. I called 3 more times one of which being yesterday 1.9.23 at which time the manager told me that she "doesn't handle the billing" but would put in another request for the owner to call me. Today 8 days after this started I finally receive a call. I was told by the owner that his manager handles all billing but since "I demanded" speaking to the owner he is now calling. He proceeded to tell me that I had "stolen" from a small business. I took huge offense to that and got upset. He then proceeded to talk down to me and tell me that, after insulting me, I needed to behave like an adult and did I understand? Never ever in my life have I had a customer service representative in any capacity insult me, make accusations, and then berate me for my response. I logged onto yelp and saw other reviews with similar experiences and saw his response stating that he has been in business for 16 years and has heard every excuse in the book. I'm shocked truly. I could see these type of responses if I had continued to use services and then just expected these services for free. However because I believed I jad cancelled I never once used one service since. In fact I remained covid positive in April for a total of 3 weeks. I explained to the owner that if I had come in to sign a cancellation I would have put his staff and any customers at risk so I did my due diligence and called believing I had handled it. I was told by the manager that they did offer this type of cancellation based on the circumstances but nobody could explain to me why that was not done in my case. I am writing this solely as a warning to others thinking of engaging in any business at this establishment to please don't. I would truly never want someone else to experience what I have. Because I took offense to being called a thief the last thing I was told by the owner before he hung up was "deal with this with my collections" although there should be nothing to collect. I have not been given a bill I have not been provided anything and the collections agency states they also do not have access to this. Maybe one day this owner will realize that some people really do get ill really do have legitimate reason to cancel in the way I had to and not treat everyone like a liar and a thief based on past experiences. That is no way to conduct a business. So please customers heed this warning. It's just not worth it in the end. read more

I had to find a place to continue my Psoriasis UV treatments and was lucky enough to find PB on Yelp. The place is always relaxing, clean and Amanda is friendly and professional. The tanning booth is great for getting some rays during Winter too. But If your physician recommends UV to treat your psoriasis check out Planet Beach! It works for me! read more

I've been a member here for over 5 years, Brianna is the BEST and is wonderful at her job.. if it wasn't for her I'm sure there would be a lot of 2 stars if the public only had to deal with the other employee that was hired after Covid.. #1 New beds are needed especially since I've called 3 days and there is NO availability with the main bed I use. I have STOPPED my membership after years because #1 customer service has drastically changed after Covid, except for Brianna #2 I'm paying for a membership and last 3 days haven't had one opening from AM to closing. Briannna is friendly when you come in but so fake, straight out lies! The other girls are friendly also, except a blonde girl with straight hair, just super cold and a little bitchy. I left a personal item in the room and went right back in after walking to my car and they said they didn't have it, which was a complete lie, nobody was in the room except them to clean it. Their app is horrible, you have to login every single time to make an appointment, when the date and time is not available, you have to login again to the same date and the next 15 minutes, and do this everytime, completely ridiculous. When it says it's available, you click on it and then they tell you not confirmed, you'll hit the next 15 minutes and so on and the same thing says it's available but then says no to confirmed, having to login every single time. Sometimes it does work and you get confirmed but the same process, you have to log back in just to find out if you're confirmed also. They have one new bed and all the years that I've been there and they charge you so much to use it. They have no music in the other beds that have been broken for years. The bulbs rarely are changed. They limit your time when they've said the bulbs were changed and you can tell that nothing was done. My daughter bought a package of tans and ended up being gone out of the state for a while and they canceled them on her even though she had paid for them upfront. If you buy any tanning and pay for them, they will cancel them within a year. It's ridiculous that they can't even honor tanning that you've paid for. When she went back in to ask about tans, they sold her 10 tans and didn't even offer her a month unlimited or anything else just charged her as much as they could without letting her know what her other choices were. I was blown away, considering I've been a member for years and knew this, the only reason I've been a member for years is because of convenience and there's really nothing too much around with my commute. It's difficult to get an appointment. The place will be dead and they will tell you they're fully booked, I think because they're all sitting in the front desk just having their own conversations and don't want to be bothered. If the owner Kevin is there then act so different. He is way to pushy trying to sell his products to you, doesn't take no for an answer. If you don't buy his skin care for example, he insult the way you look to get you to buy it, etc. read more

I don't recommend Planet Beach in Brentwood. It is impossible to use the "spa" when the weather is hot. It appears that the owner doesn't allow the employees to have the air conditioning any lower than 80 degrees. The rooms where tanning beds are, when in use, is another 15 degrees warmer, making it impossible to have a "spa" experience. The bulbs are replaced once a year, when they should be replaced based on the hours of use. In this case it comes to a point where there is no point as there is no benefit to tanning. Which raises the question, how often are the redlight therapy beds lights replaced. It's frustrating and disheartening to pay $100 a month for spa services that are too uncomfortable to use. In my opinion this spa owner is very unethical. And the business is a shameful representation and example of Spa ownership of the Planet Beach brand. Unless things change, don't waste your money. read more

I can see that people are having trouble when they are trying to cancel for different reasons. I went on a non-active status for a couple months after surgery. and I think it was $8 a month during that time. I started again and there was absolutely no problem. Now, that being said, I am kind of a pain in the butt. When I need something done, I make sure I don't only call once. I call two or three times. Who knows how many times I'll mention it and call and leave messages and texts. I'm not saying that needs to be done to that extent but in my life that works. Also, as the saying goes treat others as you want to be treated. We don't know what anybody else is going through and they may not know what we're going through. I've just found that making that one or two extra phone calls and being nice because I care about people - that works. I love the amenities that Planet Beach offers. I don't live close by. It's 3 bridges and half an hour to get there. I feel so good after having a few services. Thank you, Planet Beach. read more

I came upon Planet Beach Spa two years ago after doing an internet search, specifically I was looking for one that included an infrared sauna and/or red light bed. PBS had the red light. I was impressed after having tried out some of their spa services on my first visit, and I've been an avid member ever since! As fate would have it, after a few months of being a member, they put in the infrared sauna I was also looking for. I'm elated to start getting my sweat on here again! Still at one star, even though the temperature situation (mentioned in my last review) was fixed, the owner is extremely unprofessional and lacks tact. Don't sh*t talk your clients behind their back with your employees when your client is literally in the next room trying to tan! If you decide to shit talk your clients- at least have the decency to wait until your client leaves the damn salon! If you and your employees want to talk about whether or not your employee saw me at school or how weird you think I am-- do it so that way I don't f*cking hear it, its rude.
