So prepandemic I injured my leg and attempted to cancel my account after a freeze on it and my account was charged without warning. I was told by an employee that the freeze was for longer than it actually was and no one seemed interested in making that right. So I cancelled or so I thought. Because of my injury I wasn't my really able to walk in there and an EMPLOYEE told me I was all set. Next month I was charged. I called back and walked them through the issues for them to apologize and say that employee never actually cancelled my account but it should be all set now. Next month.... Charged AGAIN! So I called back and this is when someone finally decided to tell me you can't cancel over the phone you have to come in and physically do it. To say I was angry is an understatement! I wanted to know WHY an EMPLOYEE would tell me I was cancelled if I wasn't! No answers. And on top of that the owners said if I decided to return they would let me use the facilities for a couple months without charge and I would be able to come back with my original membership and cost. Black card membership for $10/month but no refund was even offered even though the mistake was theirs. So to be clear, they did the same to my husband's account and during this time we were both charged the annual fee without warning. So that's $60 of monthly fees and $98 in yearly that never should have been charged. That's not including when I was charged during the so called freeze. Only the cancellation attempts. So yeah. That sealed the deal. Fast forward 2.5 years and this morning I walk in with every intention of reupping my membership thinking things have got to have changed in this time right? So I ask the clerk if my account reflects that I could come back to my black card membership at my original cost or if it shows what the owner said. Nope. She can see the notes about my cancellation but nothing about the "deal" the dude wanted to give me. In addition I asked if they warn their customers yet prior to the yearly fee. I mean come on guys this is as EASY as posting fliers in the locker rooms and as difficult as sending out mass automated emails. Which is EASY!! I do it for my nonprofit regularly it takes 5 minutes to actually provide some level of customer service. Nope. They don't do that either. Honestly I found walking in the door, my disdain for their poor customer service and lack of any responsibility in providing it to be still too powerful. The black top is good enough h for me. An free. But I will be looking at other locally owned gyms in my area. I will never return to Planet Don't Care About Customers. read more

Gym was very clean, and well staffed. Everyone working out was friendly and talkative. Definitely one of the nicest gyms I have been to.

I was a beginner and was super excited to start working out, and I felt comfortable with the whole judgment free zone idea. As I was working out and mind you I'm very new to this so the equipment is still super Is awkward for me, I accidentally dropped the bar, and it made a very loud noise so they sounded the lunk alarm on me. Very nice facility but management is very particular even compared to others about planet fitnesses. Very discouraging to go in trying to mind your own business and complete a workout while having the alarm go off no less then 2 times in an hour. If you run any type of intermediate to advanced lifting block (or really anything with progressive overload) I suggest training at the university rec center. I lowered the weight and increased time under tension after the first alarm. Controlled eccentrics but you still have to be able to breathe. It's all judgement free unless you are actually trying to make positive changes. I'm a personal trainer I wouldn't even consider training a client here. The last thing people want to deal with is embarrassment for trying to make positive changes and put in good effort with training. read more

I dropped a weight on a student because my hands got sweaty and got kicked out and I'm pissed come on planet fitness

Planet fitness is clean and has a variety of workout equipment which I enjoy. I am a black card member and enjoy the additional amenities. However, I have been at this location since they opened 5 months ago, and am extremely disappointed in their response to the issue of cold shower water. There have been complaints from numerous people since they opened this location. Five months is MORE than enough time to have solved this problem. Many people need to shower before they go to work. I have heard many patrons say that they have complained and felt that staff would not take them serious. When I complained they told me it was because so many people shower in the morning. I have not had this experience at the Mt. Pleasant location despite all showers being in use. (When I shower in Big Rapids there is almost never anyone showering at the same time). Since going to work sweaty and stinky is not an option, I could only give this location 2 stars. If the hot water issue was solved, I would certainly give them all 5 stars. read more

I have been a planet fitness member at the Big Rapids location since they opened about April 2018. I workout at least 5 times a week. The workers are pleasant and always say hello and have a nice day. The facility is nice and have everything I need to get a good work out in. The only reason why I had to give such a poor rating is because for about 7 months now, this location has had an ongoing problem with warm water in the showers. I have been told multiple times that this is getting looked at and from what I have been told it is a cooperate issue and the location themselves can't do anything about it. The water is ice cold in all 3 showers they have(somedays I can get luke warm water for 1 min or less but most of the time it is only cold water). I have stayed a member for so long because I am promised that "it will get looked at soon or they had someone look at it recently". But if this is not a big enough concern for the facility, I will not be continuing my membership. I have a busy schedule and do not have time to run back home to get cleaned up- very upsetting because I like the facility a lot. read more
