Cons: no pool, not much for weights, girls in the locker room taking selfies (seriously, if you're…read morestill cute after your workout: you're working out wrong.) Pros: the price, it is clean, always open, the price, new equipment, the price, plenty if different equipment options, so many treadmills, the price, the guy who walks you to your car after a 2am workout. I worked for 10 years in a health club. I know much of the work that goes into maintaining a facility like this. It is hard to keep a facility looking this bright and clean. I am a bit of a gym rat, I like to work out and will likely get to be on the receiving end of a lunk alarm yet. Still, I like the idea of making the gym free of "gymtimidation" and keeping it affordable so that everyone can have access to personal fitness. I have always said that teaching someone to care for their body will not happen if you have to teach them first to hate how it looks. Planet Fitness is a place for everyone to learn to be fit. But seriously on the weights.

The front-desk greeter (not completely sure if it was a guy or girl but that's no matter as they were so unwelcoming) made me so uncomfortable that I wanted to leave the second I walked in. Then I was made to feel so judged in the bathroom by this same person-- I'm not sure what was going on. I don't care how great the machines are; with staff like this, I could never call this a gym a place I'd return to. Quite frankly it smells like weed and it was filthy....Horrible experience from start to finish.

I am somewhat sad about my membership no longer being honored by Priorty Health I have made many friends at the club. I am uncertain what I am going to do as far as staying. I wish they had a membership for seniors that would make the club more affordable I know they are offering a 47.00 for 6 mo than it goes up which would really put a strain on my income. hopefully at some point they can have a special senior rate. However I highly recommend MVP and if you have a family it's a must for the outdoor pool in the summer time. Like I said earlier I am very sad that this is coming to an end for me.

I used to go to MVP the majority of my middle school through high school years and I absolutely LOVED it. There were the obvious rules of no running, but overall, it was an amazing experience with amazing Life Guards that were fun and approachable. This is applying to both locations, crahen and sportsplex. It's been about 3 or 4 years since I was a member, and I rejoined because I had a son and wanted something fun for us to do. I am going to keep it for the rest of the summer for my son alone, but I don't think I will be coming back unless there are some changes in personality and/or rules. There are a few rules that I am regarding, but overall it's really just the delivery from the lifeguards that I find completely rude. There is the obvious rule of no running, which I'm not complaining about. I'm more so complaining about the way the lifeguards tell children. It's a very deep and stern "STOP RUNNING"... no please or anything. They will stand by their chairs and rudely scream over and over again. When I was a member in my teen years, there would be a whistle and a "no running, please" and it was nicely delivered and usually nicely taken. If it's a family friendly place, I would honestly expect a bit more kindness and overall manners. Now the rule I am going to complain about that I think everyone should be aware of: you cannot be more than like 5 feet away from your child if they are in the water, and that applies even if they are wearing LIFE GUARD APPROVED floaties. I understand it to a certain extent but it's the reasoning that I get told and hear explained multiple times that truly baffles me: "in case anything happens, you're going to be right there and we don't want anything to happen"... I beg my finest pardon, but what's the point of having life guards then??? Are they there just to yell at us and tell us to be closer to our kids and in some ways, parent? Not to mention, there are multiple signs posted all over the property that says "SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK", but that's clearly not the case. These situations have mostly occurred at the Sportsplex outdoor pool, but my mom has had a bad experience at the crahen baby pool but I can't speak to cause I wasn't present. It is clear, especially to parents so maybe that's where I'm getting a disconnect(?), which children are comfortable in the water and which ones are not. With that being said, the children that aren't comfortable in the water are already accompanied by a parent. I have seen multiple children today alone that have been pulled that were happily swimming and asked where their parents were. At this point, it seems that the lifeguards just don't want to do their jobs and when they do it, it's done poorly. I'm continuing my membership solely because my son enjoys pools and swimming, but would I ever recommend this place as an enjoyable family experience? Absolutely not.

I think they offer one on one training as well and have a smaller weight room in the back of the facility. After neglecting my new years resolution to eat better and work out more, I challenged myself to do G-Force's classes using their current Groupon. I started going to their Body Flow class. The session I've been attending is an abbreviated lunch-time workout class that is a hybrid of Thai Chi and Yoga. It's not the most strenuous class, but it's a nice break up my day. It offers stretching and some core work. They offer other classes that are more intense, like Body Pump and combat. They even have a flying yoga class that uses silk ariels to twist up in. This is the first gym where I learned about "branded" workout programs. I mean, I knew that stuff like Zumba was a workout brand, but I guess I didn't realize that a gym could have all one brand for all their classes. This is a Less Mills gym and they use all of those programs in their class. The classes seem to emphasise workouts to music and have a heavy choreography component to it - like the moves are all timed to music, almost perfectly. Once you catch the beat, it's fun to the move to the music. Keep in mind that they don't offer showers for everyone. They have one bathroom with one shower stall but given that the shower is in the same room as the toilet, I feel bad tieing up the bathroom to shower after class, since others may need to go to the bathroom.

I get a full body workout in 45 minutes in a group setting with the help of a trainer and tv monitors! It's clean, organized, judgement free and fun! So, I search Facebook events regularly for new *free* activities. One day, 2 summers ago, I came across an event for the F45 Grand Rapids grand opening. I'd never heard of this F45 thing before so I did some googling and found out that it's a workout concept originating from Australia and this would be the first franchise opening within a 3 hours' drive from us. My sisters and I decided to check it out and that Saturday morning, we got to the strip on 28th street where Michaels craft store used to be. The building was just being set up with mats, tv monitors and equipment - basic floor, walls and ceiling. We ran through several stations outdoors using free weights, ropes and yoga mats. Throughout the whole workout, trainers were encouraging us with, 'Nice work!', high fives and occasionally helping us modify lifts to target the correct muscle group. It was so much fun and by the end, I made up my mind to sign up for the 2 weeks of free, unlimited classes! Since that summer, I've been going to classes randomly with my friend Nicole who goes daily. They have a 20 class pass for $300. It's steep compared to gyms that offer memberships, but I have more of an incentive to actually attend these group workouts than I do if I were to hit the gym alone. Now that the place is established, they offer multiple classes from 530a-7p, 2 clean bathrooms, cubbies to stash your coats/keys, security cameras, and a welcoming environment. I've found that the Saturday morning classes fit my schedule the best and they offer 3 classes before 11am! It's such a great way to start my weekend and gives me time to recover before the work week begins again. I'm always sore after but it's a great feeling of accomplishment after I complete 2 rounds of 27 stations of heart pounding and sweat dripping workouts! Thanks Holly, Sam, Rusty and Ashley - you guys are awesome!
