I enjoy some of the staff that works there however there is a man trainer there who is rude and makes faces and very mean . He looks domincan . Downgrading my review to 1 star. More than half the cardio machines don't have televisions that work they all say no signal or don't turn on at all. They are all missing cup holders and the worst part is the paper towel dispensers don't work so people don't wipe down the machines. As per the comment on my first review I spoke with management on site who quote said "sorry it is what it is. Even the manager here can't do anything it's corporates fault." I've been here pre-Covid and now I've been here recently and honestly they've improved a lot. Staff right now is pretty good, especially the morning staff. They were literally running around putting weights back and cleaning surfaces so that was great to see! It does get busy so be prepared for that. A lot of gym heads go here. read more

This place takes in possibly 40-70 people during rush hour to have 2 machines each. What used to take me 40 minutes now it takes me an hour and a half. That's if I even do every workout I want to do. Sometimes I have to give up due to the length of time waiting for a machine. read more

Given that it's a planet fitness they have a pretty adequate set of machines and weights, glad to see they recently added dumbbells heavier than 60lbs, but wish they would do the same for the barbells Won't dock the location for not having a squat rack or anything along those lines since that's a given for planet fitness The workers are quite friendly, but I wish they would do a better job of either putting weights back in their proper location themselves or doing something to prosper an environment where people will do so themselves; many of the dumbbells are either scattered around the gym or in the wrong location if they are racked For a high volume location the crowd isn't too bad, but I can't recommend the location unless you live walking distance as the parking situation is a no go read more

First off I don't understand why people keep talking about mafia north Bronx type people going to this gym? Last time I checked the Italian-American neighborhoods in question (Throggs Neck/ Country Club/ Pelham Bay) are located in the east/ south east section of the Bronx. Co-op City, Wakefield, and Riverdale are what I would call the north Bronx. Now with that geography/demography lesson over I will continue with my review. This gym for the price is excellent. They have just recently installed new machines which are amazing to me. The clientele in this gym isn't that bad at all. Mostly high school and college aged people with a few older people thrown into the mix. You know, people on fixed incomes. I would imagine the wealthy "mafioso" types would go to the NYSC in Morris Park. The downside to this gym is the lack of parking and exercise classes. A missing sauna isn't a big deal for me. I've seen enough gay porn to know what goes on in a gym sauna. I'm coming her for a work out... with clothes on :D read more

You can find me here about 3-4 times a week (on a good week, of course). It gets really packed in winter & spring .. but which gym doesn't? Everyone wants to lose their holiday fat. It sucks that there's no AC and the fans either don't reach you or blow DIRECTLY on you -- but it's a gym.. you come here to SWEAT. One thing I will complain about is the 30 minute Express Workout room. I really wish they would enforce the 30 MINUTE EXPRESS part since some people just cut in and use certain machines for more than 5 minutes. The whole point of this room is to use a machine for a minute, cardio for a minute, and then move on to the next machine!! The fat dudes with wack arms that come to use the bicep/tricep machines really piss me off... Use it and go, don't sit your fat ass grunting and moaning -- or at least use the general room for that! Locker rooms are good. However, they recently had a problem with theft in the locker rooms and now they mandate that all guests show ID upon entry into the gym. You really can't beat the price. It's great. Plus black card members get to use any gym, unlimited tanning, and discounts on gatorade/water. read more

The creators of the "Judgement Free Zone" are not winning any spelling bees. This gym is a no frills gym. No towels or luxurious bathroom soaps. Just plenty of machines and cardio equipment in a sea of purple and yellow. The front desk staff is friendly and pleasant. I come during non peak hours so crowds are never a nuisance for me. The tanning beds and massage chairs for Black Card members are a pleasant perk. Because the gym is cheap I too am subject to guilt free absences from the gym... and show up infrequently. This gym is good enough but needs to hire a better interior designer. Pros: Cheap & Cool After shelling out $82/month for NYSC in White Plains, my pockets can't help but to sigh in relief, because $20 hurts them less. True, you're like to bump into the typical North-Bronx Mafioso wife (you know the type....very Carmella Soprano...on the stair-master with a full face of makeup, acrylic tips, etc) but this crowd sure as hell beats the ghetto-fabulous thugs at the Bally's in Co-Op City. The 30 Min Circuit For those of you who actually have muscle tone, this prolly won't interest you. But I don't, which is why I love the 30 minute circuit; because after a 45 minute cardio session, I'm more than happy to pump iron and flex my pathetic biceps on easy to use machines. Plus, my ass is looking firmer...so no complaints here. Cons: Its not NYSC. Sorry to bitch and moan, but the NYSC in White Plains *REALLY* spoiled me. Planet Fitness is not the cleanest, there are no free towels, and no individual tvs. Plus, your favorite cardio machines are likely to be in use during peak hours. The worst planet fitness I've ever been to. Absolutely no parking, ever.. Their lot holds about 12 cars (which is always full) and it's very difficult to access. The gym itself is way too small to accommodate the number of people that use it. Machines are always broken and the wait for a smith-bench is usually 15min alone. I have been to a number of PF Gyms and found that many have better/more machines, heavier weights, nicer locker rooms, and overall just more room to move. read more

Excellent gym, and an outstanding value. Though the gym gets crowded in the peak afternoon hours, and parking can be tricky, everyone in the gym is very friendly, and you cannot beat the price. Also, the casual feel means that people feel the need to talk on their cell phones CONSTANTLY, and its not unusual for people to take cups of coffee on the treadmill with them in the morning. Due to its close proximity to the 6 train and the Bx8 and Bx14 local buses and BxM7A express buses, I take the local bus into the gym in the morning. Its empty, I never have to wait for any equipment. After my workout, I can shower (in the private stalls), shave, and throw all my things into the locker (don't forget about them. No overnight lockers allowed). Its a short walk to the express bus or the subway into the city. When I come back from work, I pick up my things from the locker, and take the bus home. It doesn't take me too far out of my way, and its nice to be able to leave the car home during my workout. read more

This planet Fitness is the worse , did a contract with them a year a go, contract clearly states it up in 12 months, did the contract 08/01/18 , Come 08/01/19 they charge me another annual fee of 40$ which it clearly states it would be on a month to month basis after until you cancel, doesn't say you roll over into a new contract. I called them and my bank to dispute, spoke with Nancy Herrera on the phone and in person, she is the manager, being I am not interested in a rollover membership I asked to cancel, and that was the first dispute, here I am 08/18/18 having a second dispute, and miss Herrera says I am still going to be charged this months fee, because I am passed the date it is the 18 th, really!! I spoke to her at the beginning of the month, when the first transaction was done, now they are charging me again. They are robbing people blind, and according to these constant reviews it should tell you something about it, don't fall for that 10.00 a month crap, read the details. She ask me to sign the computer pad for cancellation, with out explaining the details, once you sign it, and prints it says you will still be charged an annual fee and buy out fee. This is nuts, I work hard for my money, I am closing my account just not to have them charge shit.. BBB will hear of their ways believe it. It's a shame I have to give it a star to give it a review, it doesn't even deserve a star, I've been in customer service for years and always looked to help people, customer service is key to a business, sometimes going out of your way exceeds to clientele, Miss Nancy Herrera knows for a fact I spoke with her, and she could care less. All my life, I've done a pretty good job of deflecting people's suggestions that I should work out. "The gym's too far." "The gym's too expensive." "I'm allergic to dumbbells." Well, when I moved to the Bronx, I ran out of the excuses. Planet Fitness was nearby, and it was only 10 bucks a month. Clearly, I don't know that much about gyms, but I can't find many faults with this one. The place is clean and spacious, with agreeable pop hits from the '90s and today cranking through the speakers. This place kicks ass in most respects....INSANELY low price, a decent number of machines that actually WORK (unlike NYSC), and despite what someone said below, really clean workout areas and locker rooms. Complaints? Well....the few regarding the gym itself aren't terribly serious....I mean, for the price, you don't exactly expect a luxury spa. But I have to admit, it took me awhile to get over the lack of towel service and sauna. I was also really disappointed when I realised the ONLY vaguely local gym with a sauna is in Yonkers. As for my biggest complaint, though, it's not at all about the gym itself, it's about some of its clients. No, I don't mind the guidos and the Mafia Princess wannabes....but I do mind the freaks. Warning, this place attracts a LOT of them. I have been near-stalked by several people over the past year and a half from here, both males and females. It's a simple gym with no WOW factor. I go there because it's close and of course it's only 20 bucks a month (black card member). The parking lot is HORRIFIC! The smallest one I've ever seen! Sometimes I wait, some times I park on the street. My cell phone was stolen years ago from the locker room, so I stopped using that area. This is my home base gym and it's pretty good. It is always relatively clean, has a good number of machines and if you go off peak hours there is no wait for machines. After having visited several other locations, Castle Hill (ghetto),Harlem @ 125th (in the basement so claustrophobic) Long Island ,(one giant room which oddly enough still felt all together) I have to say I like the way this one is appointed the best . It has a second floor that overlooks the rest of the gym and that is where I like to do the cardio machines so I can see everything from my perch. I've had a membership pretty much since they opened,off and on but it's really recently since I've taken my health seriously and have been going for the last few months religiously. The more I go, the more I like it. But yeah, towels would be nice but for $10 0r $20 a month I can bring my own towels. read more

This gym's location is right off the Buhre Avenue stop on the 6 train so it is very convenient for those who commute. I have not had many experiences with gyms then, so it was all very new to me. I was excited and motivated to say the least, but with time, this soon wore off. The women locker room is very small. If you go during the busier times especially, it will feel cramped. There was no room for stretching anywhere in the entire gym. I would awkwardly stretch close to people in the locker room or the weight area. The the size of the space holds a lot of equipment but it feels cluttered. What turned me off the most with this location is the type of people who go there. I cannot tell you how many dirty looks I got from women, and stares I would receive from men. There is an unnecessary tension mixed with insecurity when I work out there. Perhaps I am reading into it too much, but I just never felt comfortable. The reason why this didn't get 1 star is because the space is fairly clean, and the staff is friendly. I only recommend this gym if you cannot afford anything else. read more

Wonderful gym, just visited today with a guest pass. To my surprise I won't be signing up, I went with a friend today and the experience was completely distasteful. After a great workout, one of my friends wanted to see the tanning beds upstairs. Keep in mind, tanning beds cannot be activated without the assistance of an associate. One associate Steven Rodriguez very slyly shouted from the bottom of the stairs (tanning beds are in the second floor) "YO, whatchu (yes "chu") looking for?" Really? First of all, that's no way to address a customer, and I voiced that to him. He became hostile and we exchanged a few words, when he noticed he had no valid argument he stated "I just asked you if you needed the ladies room". Really? Because that's not what you said.... I left it alone and as my friends and I are walking out, he begins to antagonize us some more. To where I proceeded to ask the trainer (Iliana) for the managers info. I moved from Pelham back in October and I miss Planet Fitness. It was only a 10 min walk from my house. You don't have to break the bank for fitness ($20/month) and there's a bevy of equipment. Nice, helpful, friendly staff; good business hours; and it's an overall clean facility. It's also great that they have ceiling-mounted TVs with remotes attached to the cardio equipment. IMO, the only minus is that they don't provide classes. Others may be bothered by Planet Fitness' desire to provide a lunk-free environment (i.e. no grunting), but for $20/month, I can work with their rules. read more

The way I see it is there are 2 reasons to be a member here. 1 - you can't afford to go anywhere else 2 - you don't have any other option. The equipment is ok, but this place is always over-crowded, and with a cheap monthly fee, you get a lot of young kids. Good for cardio bunnies, and non-serious lifters. The gym itself is fine. Lots of equipment, clean facilities, and the staff are generally friendly enough. However, don't ever plan on cancelling your membership. I've been trying to for a few months now, without success. Despite allowing you to manage your account online, you can't cancel online, or via telephone. Your options are to either go in and cancel in person, or send a certified letter. Due to my work schedule, it's not convenient for me to go in to cancel in person, so I opted to send a certified letter (at a cost of $5.75). They received the letter 11/7. On 11/19, they withdrew $19.99 from my checking account. I didn't notice it right away. But I checked my account today, and they've charged me another $19.99. I called to find out what's going on, and was told they have "no record" of my cancellation, and gave me the number for the District Manager. He hasn't called me back, and I'm not holding my breath for him to do so, either. This is ridiculous. They had ample time to process my cancellation from the time they received my letter to the next billing cycle, yet they ignored it and charged me anyway, twice. I wish I'd never signed up with these people. read more

I am so displeased to hear how Steven Rodriguez was fired. In my opinion he was the one who ran the place. Thier was never a manager on shift, but when I would show up he is always thier. Everyone knew him, he did favors for people who may have needed it or asked him. He was so kind. From what I heard he was let go by a manager who didn't do his Job correctly. I heard about it today, from his coworkers. I feel bad he was let go because he felt strongly about his job and coworkers. Since I have been a member, everyone has told me he was the guy to help you out. He has helped me through certain machines, I didn't know how to use. So, all in all, I am really quite pleased with this gym. I am a new member to the Planet Fitness franchise, and find the front staff acceptable; some are nicer than others, but for NYC, I can deal with that. For cardio bunnies like myself, there are a plethora of elliptical, treadmill and cycling machines downstairs and ANOTHER large set of treadmills and ellipticals upstairs! So many cardio machines means they are almost always up for dibs, which is great for those who loathe coming to a crowded gym and having to WAIT to get a treadmill. That's not to say this gym is "crowded", because it is not. I feel the flow of members is always acceptable and never sweaty-body overload. The women's locker rooms/bathrooms and weight equipment are always clean. I see trainers and staff constantly making rounds and wiping down the cardio and weight machines during my workouts. I like how planet fitness does not try to up-sell you with training sessions and weird membership packages. I actually signed up for my membership online... and it was so refreshing! So, the weight machines come in duplicates of two, so if someone is on the row machine, there is almost always the second row machine next to it that is empty. I appreciate this. I also received free pens, stickers and a t-shirt on my first gym visit. The front desk also has printouts for members, which indicate the busiest times at the gym each month- very groovy. On an aside, my husband isn't a fan of planet fitness because he does not feel that they have a good variety of free-weights, so men take note. But for me, the weight machines work well. Okay, so the reason I am giving this gym 3 stars instead of 5? THE LACK OF PROPER VENTILATION AND A/C!!!!!!!!! So I started attending this gym in the Spring, and did my cardio upstairs- and even in the Spring, it was a little too warm for my taste. Since heat rises, I decided to start doing my cardio downstairs; there was a slight decrease in temp on the lower level, so I thought this was my solution... Well, fast forward to the present, summer time humidity and heat in NYC. The heat inside the gym...IS STIFLING. I can only complete 75% of my cardio routine, as I could barely breathe in the mugginess and extreme heat. If I wanted to workout in these conditions, I would have 1. worked out outside or 2. went to bikram yoga. I spent the rest of my workout (leg day) completely dazed and grumpy. That extreme heat just does something to you.. I asked the front desk, if other members have complained about the heat in the gym?She politely told me the A/C guy has been coming for the last 3 days, and he's coming again this afternoon, and she apologized. Thing is, I noticed these stuffy conditions in this gym during the crisp Spring time weather, and I think the real issue is; the Pelham Bay Planet Fitness resides in an old building that has shitty ventilation and A/C, and working out in the Summer time is torture. I think the A/C goes out often, and when it is running, it's never 100%. So be warned. The Planet Fitness owner needs to bite the bullet and pay to have the A/C overhauled. We'll see how often I patron this gym in the summer time with it's mediocre A/C. read more

Just joined this gym last week and i am one happy customer. For $20 a month and a yearly one time fee of like $39 i think you get a pretty good deal. Unlimited usage of tanning machines, use of all locatins nationwide, bring a friend whenever you like, half price off cooler drinks, free t-shirt with sign up and use of massage chairs. MInimum is a year contract which is good i was suckered into a 2-year with lucille roberts. Place is clean and they have a widevariety of machines. No classes offered however, they do offer personal trainer for group of 2 or more all you have to do is sign up. So you and your friend that you brought to the gym for free can get a personal training session. Most of the locations have parking as well. I am def loving my new memebership read more

Gym didn't offer me what I wanted so I canceled my membership. My credit card was charged the month after I canceled. I called and was told I had to go in person to inquire. I did and the manager said my account was canceled but it looks like they charged my card for someone else's membership. They would call me about it. Never got a follow up call. Had to block them from charging my card again. Would use the gym again but don't give them your credit card. read more

The gym is conveniently located in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx. It's near the #6 train Buhre Ave. stop and there is street meter parking. The hours are fantastic. M-F 24 hours. Sat/Sun. 7-7. There are plenty of bikes, treadmills and elliptical machines. During the summer, the temperature was quite uneven throughout the gym. The main weight area was cool. But the cardio area and circuit training area (more on this area later) were hot and stuffy with very little air circulation. There is a nice mix of music in the background. There are 4 TVs in the cardio area. But they are only visible if you're right in front of them. I think they should add a few more so those working out further away can see. The gym is clean. The men's locker room is clean. But my god, could they circulate some air up there? It's like a sweaty, smelly steam room. As for the circuit training area is concerned, this is where I have my biggest complaint. Circuit training is a fantastic way to workout the entire body without having to focus on specific muscle groups. That is what the main weight area is to be used for. However, the staff does a poor job of keeping the circuit training area free of customers using the equipment for sets. Despite two signs designating the area for circuit training only, It is a constant fight with non-circuit trainers to get to machines. Sometimes literally. I have had several arguments and stare-downs with both muscle-heads and newcomers who either don't know, or care that the section is to be used only for circuit training. This complaint is quite a significant one since the 30 minute circuit training is a main selling point for Planet Fitness. I suggest management add more noticeable signs in the circuit training area that loudly designate the area for circuit training. Perhaps it would also help if the club would terminate some violator's membership as the sign warns. Maybe then they would get the message. read more
