Took a weekday afternoon tour recently. The front desk lady welcomed me cordially. To which I then asked if it would be possible to tour the gym. Within moments a young gentleman came to assist. During the tour I witnessed clean areas, with what I'd say were diehard gym members maintaining their fitness goals by either pumping iron, running on the treadmills, stretching in the group fitness room or swimming laps in the lap pool. Quite motivating. The young gentleman who gave me the tour walked me up, down several stairs and throughout all accessible areas of the gym. He was thorough and answered all of my questions without being pushy. The Pool area looked really appealing and the Ladies Locker room looked neat and well kept. The one thing lacking for me was a squash/racquetball court. I know this is not a popular take for all, but I think indoor courts could have been considered in the plans as the Waters Place area is a sprawling piece of land which could've easily accommodated at least two courts in the build. Another plus in having indoor courts is the accessibility during the colder months. Also at this stage, a racquetball court could have been converted into at least one Pickleball Court...definitely a missed opportunity. In my opinion, Owners/Contractors fail to realize that Bronxites are avid racquet sports players too. Imagine getting a great indoor court workout, and then an option to take a few laps in the pool, conveniently located within your area instead of having to trek across the bridge to another LA Fitness that has this amenity. When joining a gym you'd want these conveniences factored in to encourage you to visit as often as possible. Unsure of their membership fees, but at a glance a nice looking gym. Outdoor parking was available during the time I visited. And an indoor garage is also available. 3.5 Stars read more

Gym CLOSES At 7PM on Saturday and Sundays. Planet fitness closes at 10pm on weekends. Your work schedule will conflict with this because majority of people leave work around this time. so we need the 7- 10pm to work out on weekends. also gym has NO steam room or Pool. read more

Never sign up for Personal trainer its a scam and when you want to cancel for medical reasons they lie saying that they cancelled and then they charge you again and when you call they say that they did not cancel. Weights are ALL over the place. Not racked correctly and hard to find. Weights are left on barbells and someone even left a half eaten package of toaster pastries on the floor. Members are constantly on their phones between sets and take extremely long breaks hogging the machines. One of the worst LA Fitness's I've been to. read more

The only downside I've experienced at LA Fitness is the change in their operating hours. The transition from a 24-hour gym to regular hours has been disappointing, especially for city workers like me who often have late shifts. I'm fed up with LA Fitness at Bay Plaza. Here are some of the issues - pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room were shut down by the Dept of Health on Feb. 7. Staff claims it was a paperwork issue but it shouldn't take this long to fix. Half of the showers are out of service including the accessible. Basketball court has been closed for months. They closed the bathrooms on the gym level with no explanation and took off the signage indicating it's permanently closed. Some machines need easy fixes but they remain in disrepair. I used to love this place but now I have to speak up. This is catastrophic and unacceptable. They need to do better. Much better. read more

Unfortunately, it's been a long stretch of broken machines, long waits, and little urgency to maintain or sanitize the place. Equipment stays out of order for months, and overcrowding means more standing around than working out. While doing some shopping in the Bronx , I decided to visit La fitness and see if I can lose the pounds I added after munching on a bunch of sal and doms miniature pastries..nice big clean gym with plenty available workout equipment and it's not crowded yet so I can curse non stop while running on the treadmill and stationary bike with my bad knees . Friendly staff , clean bathroom area and the gym equipment looks new and in good shape . The lounge area is were I can catch my breath after doing 15 minutes of non impact workout . Overall a good gym to enjoy a lite workout or build them muscles with the weights avaiable . read more

I had my first session today at LA Fitness and worked with one of the personal trainers -- and wow, I didn't realize how out of shape I was until we got started! The workout was intense but manageable, and the trainer (Sean Baltazard) was fantastic: professional, motivating, and very attentive. He pushed just the right amount without being overwhelming. Horrible front desk! They just sit there and do nothing! They don't know if the class is canceled or not. They don't care! They just go to work and don't do anything! Despite the good amenities of this gym the front desk is not good! I always do my spin class here so if it's snowing I always call 30 mins before the class to confirm if it's canceled or not, they always say it's not canceled but it is!! Always! Been coming to this LA fitness since 2016. Now when it was pre covid they had the sauna and showers and classes. During the pandemic they closed and are now reopened. They have been more packed than before since 3 gyms around the area closed down and they needed to accommodate those people now with members. Cons: Before there were peak and off peak times. Now it's just ALWAYS packed. The sauna is not longer a thing at the moment and the pool the last few times i went were closed. It's like hell fighting for free weight machines or benches. Pros? They still have classes going on and They have sanitizer tables to grab a spray bottle and paper to wipe your machines before and after. You come in with your phone number or app and they let you right in. Side note. Super upset about this gym/company. I had an AMAZING locked down membership for $85 a month with 2 people, who could bring 2 guests each each time to any gym. My debit card was lost and i didn't realized my LA fitness was linked to that card, so only after 1 month of falling behind.... they closed my account. I had to REOPEN AN ACCOUNT pay fees to activate it again and couldn't get my same deal. MIND YOU THEY HAD MY EMAIL/PHONE NUMBER WRONG on the account. If i didn't need a gym close in the Bronx that wasn't a blink or planet fitness.... i wouldn't have gone here again. read more

This place has so much potential but there are too many Fixable drawbacks they need to gravely pay attention to. First too many machines are inoperable. Why??? Not only are they not working but many are rusty and in need of repair. Secondly after two months I have yet to see any staff other than the kind lady who cleans the ladies locker room checking the machines, cleaning the many paper towels left on machines and on the floor, and ensuring that all weights and other movable equipment is stored properly. Many people chat on their phones while on the machines forgetting others may need to use these, talk extra loud, leave their coats and bags in the middle of the floor, and don't even clean anything. Not to mention that there is equipment missing such as the long bar for the chest and shoulders. People take weights from the first to the second floor because there is nothing available. Where is the staff overseeing this? It's a true shame. Because we are Bronx people is not an excuse for the staff not to do their job and ensure we are all enjoying a quality experience that we all pay for. Honestly I go because this is the closest place to me. And I wish they could make this better - it's worth it. read more

Horrible Gym, no one restock the weights, I speak with management and they say they have person that comes at 2pm daily to restack the weights I said why can't they just tell members to restack them. Or have any kind of presence on the gym floor and let members know to restack them. Also members take 2,3 even for sets of dumbbells and keeps them and if you ask for them to let you use 1 for a quick set they take it personal. I've been working out for over 25 years and this gym by far is the worse gym I've ever encountered!!! Last but not least when I spoke to management about my frustration they recommended I go to another gym, soooo unprofessional!!!!!! When I workout I wipe my machines I put weights back and if someone ask to jump in the machine I'm using I'm very glad to allow them to join me. I've come here on a couple of occasions with my girlfriend who has a membership. She has brought me with passes to try out classes that she likes. I came for a spin class one day that was BANANAS. I don't remember the name of the instructor but I will say that looks are deceiving. At the end of it all, my legs were noodles but I was pumped. More recently, I attended Debbie's Tabata Class on a Sunday, around 9 AM, I believe. She made it very easy to catch on to the routine, being a first-timer and she kept me motivated the entire workout. We started with a warm-up that got my heart pumping and then went on to a simple tabata routine. She then set up stations which is what we did for the remainder of the class. It was so good. I had to thank her for the opportunity after we ended. We worked from start to finish and she suggested modifications for anyone who needed a lighter exercise. I've always like this gym. It's clean and the juice bar is good. The staff has always been friendly and the members are considerate from what I've seen. read more

I have been a member of La Fitness for 7 years. I have been taking Mayweather's spin classes for 7 years. I love taking his class because he keeps us all involved, he either knows your name or if you are new he learns your name. He keeps us motivated by calling us out. His music also keeps us motivated. He spins with us, as many other instructors teach off the bike. Mayweather is an excellent spin instructor La fitness is extremely lucky to have him. read more

I've been coming to this gym for the better part of 3 years and what keeps me coming back is the location and parking. Otherwise, a lot is left to be desired. Other clientele love to take their sweet time on equipment, be chatty Kathy's while on the treadmills, and NEVER re-rack weights... ever!! It's a wild goose chase to find 1. A pair of dumbbells and 2. In the correct spot. Even the long bar weights are all missing from the 3 tall racks they have. They have at a minimum 2 desk employees, they just like to sit on their ass on the phone. There was only one gentleman who worked there - a tall, well built man who wore glasses who literally always cleaned up the place by putting weights back where they belong. No one working there now even walks around, telling people to rack their weights. Management needs to wake up and get their act together, almost every review I've read mentioned the lazy staff and a mess of weights everywhere. Not to mention, the bathrooms always have overflowing paper towels. Piss on the floor - yes people are animals and disgusting but it's unsanitary to not have it cleaned up. read more

I recently joined and paid for 2 months in advance and had not gone in but today was my first time I was met with passive aggressiveness and super rude energy from the desk guy Randy who insisted I owed 110 dollars but could not tell me why ( I called earlier and was told I am paid up until November and we are in October so I was good), the young lady who's name I did not get was accommodating and eager to help me get the answer to why I owed 110 ( it was for November and the annual fee which was not explained to me by Randy who just wanted me to pay before I worked out, I explained I'm good til November and I will sort it out after with the manager because I still needed an explanation to why it was charging my car card early with no explanation. Dominick who works here needs to be fired. He has harassed MULTIPLE people including myself. He interrupted me on two different occasions while working out to move dumbbells and plates that were besides me. I told him both times to go and find out who put them there as I am not the culprit. Had the the audacity to curse at me one of the times this happened. I filed a complaint but nothing was done about it. Also, to speak in regards of the gym itself, the machines are always either broken or in horrible condition. My latest interaction with a specific machine caused me an injury and there was no sign on there to warn anyone. A guy approached me to see if was ok and told me that he knew it was broken. It's a shame for such an expensive gym to operate like this. I'm better off going to planet fitness and that's not saying a lot!!! Also, any concerns made to the front desk are not taken seriously or noted. They are too busy gossiping and laughing and do not care. So sad but will not recommend to anyone. Honestly I am only giving this a 3 star because of one class and 3 stars is way to generous for this gym. I used to go to NYSC but due to covid the location closed down. I decided to join LA fitness being that they offered the same classes I used to enjoy. As soon as I became a member I immediately tried every single class, and instructor in there, and after a year later I only find myself going to one class and that is the spin class taught by Mayweather. I never had an instructor who motivates and have the passionate to helping us riders to get in shape! Let's even talk about the music and the energy he brings into the class! I came to the LA fitness in Eastchester and it is so gross. Firstly, the machines in the gym are all squished together, it feels really congested here. The stalls don't have toilet paper which is really inconvenient since I had to urinate. Luckily my friend was there to hand me some toilet paper. The bathrooms are disgusting. There is no disinfectant available to clean the machine. Not only is it unsanitary and extremely disgusting but we are not clear of COVID not to mention other everyday diseases. There needs to be disinfecting sprays available for people to clean up after themselves. In addition to this, what is up with the the maintenance of the equipment?? Months go by and we are unable to use the equipment because it's "scheduled for maintenance". Our membership does not stop waiting on this equipment to get fixed. Originally signed up in December with John. He writes his rates down on the back of a piece of paper which is the shadiest thing I have never experienced in my life. Pushed me to sign up for the longest commitment and tells me that this sale is one day only. I tell him I'll have to wait and will come back the very next day, because I know a scam when I see one. The prices are exactly the same. He once again writes down the rates on the back of a piece of paper. No pamphlet. I still sign up because they're the only one with a pool in my area. I was told by John that there was only a single down payment and monthly fees moving forward. 3 months later, I get charged for an annual fee. I get on the phone with John and he tells me it was his fault that I was not communicated to well enough, but he's unable to accommodate the issue. I ask to speak to the GM, Dom, who I hear making fun of situation. But then I am told Dom is too busy to speak. Overall terrible gym. Equipment are never organized or clean. Constantly broken. Only one person out of the entire staff I have seen working hard, the cleaner. They try very hard to be a luxury gym. Fails miserably. read more

I chose This location because it was conveniently located near me prior residency. I recently relocated out of state and now live approximately 56 miles from the nearest La Fitness. I have tried to cancel both my gym membership and personal training membership. It baffles me that the gym membership was canceled but I am being held responsible for the rest of my contract for the personal training. So now I am officially not a member at the la fitness gym it self but I still have to pay for the personal training in there facility. I was advised that I would be pardoned and the contract canceled without further cost if I lived 25 miles from the nearest La Fitness. Well let me tell you how that is not the case here.
