I've been a member of Planet Fitness for almost 6 years, with the Porter Square location as my home gym. Although it has gone through ownership, management and staffing changes over the years, I have to say, Samantha (Manager) and her team have the gym in a state of near perfection. New equipment has been added. The entire place is ultra clean and maintained. The team members are all very knowledgeable and personable. I highly recommend this gym/location. read more

This place always smells like poop. It's telling me I need more characters to post my review but that's all I really had to say. They need to figure out their septic system or something. Overall I would say the gym as a whole is beautiful. Nice lighting, plenty of machines, and a good diversity of people. The one problems i'm facing is how the WATER FILTER hasn't been changed for the last week. My name is Elton, been a Planet Fitness member for about 3 years now and i've never experienced this problem. I've brought it up to the managers and employees over there but every-time they give me a time of when they will change it and never do. I've had multiple employees tell me how they will change it in an hour, but yet never does. Now i'm here at a gym where i can't even drink water there because the employees seem not to care. The worst part bout this is i have been bringing this up for the last week and every-time they see me approach the front desk, they all tend to look another way knowing i'm going there bout the water filter. Honestly this is disgusting. For me to be drinking this unfiltered water. The lights been on red for the last week and now going into two weeks. The first couple of days i forced myself to drink the water and it would make my stomach hurt. I felt like throwing up bout an hour of drinking it, ruining my workout. read more

The reviews had me expecting the worst, but I've been a member for over six months now and I feel like I have to weigh in in this location's defense! The staff are the nicest and super helpful, it's always incredibly clean, there aren't any missing weights/equipment, and machines get fixed relatively quickly. Emphasis again on super clean. I guess there's room for improvement, as in there could be a bigger range of machines and equipment but it's a small, urban location and the rate is absolutely dirt cheap. Bonus points for being around the corner from Porter station. I'm super glad I didn't let bad reviews deter me. read more

This Planet Fitness is a really solid option if you're looking for a decent, affordable place to work out in the Cambridge area. If you've been a to a Planet Fitness before then you'll have some idea of what to expect. It's clean, large and focuses heavily on cardio machines. But unless you're a hardcore weight lifter there will be plenty of free weights and weight machines to suit your needs. There is plenty of space in the locker room which is kept in great shape. The staff has been consistently friendly and helpful. It is in a basement and doesn't have any natural light so it does have sort of a cavernous feel to it. And while I don't love that it's far from a dealbreaker. It gets very busy in the afternoon and I'd suggest trying to avoid the after-work/school crowd if at all possible. It is located near a T stop and has parking across the street (kind of a big deal). I've always been able to find a parking spot when I drove. I've been very pleased with this gym and suggest checking it out. read more

The recent upgrades at Porter Square PF have made a big difference. Now that I know how the new bikes work, I really like them. It's nice to see the water filler finally repaired and other improvements. The biggest plus is Miguel, the new manager. He makes my day at the gym and goes out of his way to set up equipment special for my workout. He deserves a bonus. read more

The reviews & complaints listed on this site repeatly state the same thing. They describe broken equipment, hand weights that are missing, dirty floors, and empty paper towel dispensers. There are now even buckets to catch water dripping from the ceiling. The place is dark and dingy. Whoever has responded to the previous comments on this site frequently asks, "Have you spoken to the gym's manage?" Spoken to them? There is no manager around. Besides, are you implying that the manage (if there is one) is too blind to see the obvious problems? It's a real shame. read more

Strange enough that gyms don't open until 6 am. When staff is often late, you have 20 people in the lobby waiting. This is an unacceptable way to do business. Gym is fine. Staff is the worst. Robots who are usually nowhere to be found... and the cleanliness of this gym is unbelievable. Hair balls under most equipment. Full trash cans every morning which means they weren't emptied the night before. Why? Sanitation spray bottles... near empty most of the time. Taking our business elsewhere. If you are an avid gym goer... this place is not for you. I travel the country months at a time and I've been to a plethora of planet fitness locations... this one really is the worst one I've ever seen. Look, I love trash. PF hits the "serviceable garbage" mark. It has an amazing, convenient location and dirt cheap rates. I promise you'll never be judged for whatever you do here whether that's literally spinning on the pull-up bars or "dynamic stretches" in the free weight area lol. You definitely get what you pay for though- there's always at least one cable machine that's broken, a wait for the Smith machine, and several empty paper towel dispensers/disinfectant fluid bottles. Also, in the men's bathroom, don't even bother trying the first two sinks. They have been broken the entire time 10 months I've been coming here. Staff are apathetic to the squalor of the gym but always very nice! It's like the gym equivalent of that nasty college dive bar you found yourself ending up in every night you went out despite swearing you'd never go back. read more

I've been going to PF for about a year. The gym is a little too small so it's hard to get a solid workout on a consistent basis due to the people to equipment ratio. Often there are so many people in the Gym that I spend a good of my time stuck watching other people finish. The kicker is that the stair climber equipment has been broken for about 3 to 6 months, at least. There are only three machines and people line up to use them or just give up... DEAR PF. CAN YOU PLEASE FIX THESE THINGS? Also, all the open space in front of the check in desk could be populated with another cable machine and some other equipment. This would help with the daily congestion. read more

Really big fan of the change from pop music videos to workout/exercise related videos like people surfing, biking, rock climbing, hiking, etc. Way better for anyone struggling with body dysmorphia who is just trying to work out and less blatant endorsement of capitalism. Significant improvement for this place. I have to say that recently they have been keeping the gym much cleaner and there has regularly been friendly and hard working staff at the gym. I think it is much better than it once was and I hope that it continues to improve. I have noticed that equipment that is broken seems to be fixed more quickly than before. Two hours after opening, on the first day it was allowed per the COVID reopening plan, none of the folks working out were wearing masks. The door said masks required, but this was not being enforced. I'd stay away until there is a vaccine. read more

I started going to walk on the treadmill and watch TV. There's only one or maybe two TVs that work and half the treadmills are down and it doesn't seem Planet Fitness has any intention of fixing or replacing the equipment. read more

Cambridge location has a chronic tardiness problem. They are late to open, multiple times a week. There are days that they are as late as 40 minutes. Today it is 29 minutes and counting. read more

I was a BSC member for almost a decade, ages 19-29. When the pandemic hit. I canceled my BSC membership b/c they're dicks and tried to bill me for membership and personal training after the gyms closed ($$$), I remembered I had always kept a pf membership for traveling and Sunday's when my gym was closed. To my surprise, they had suspended billing during the lockdown with no action on my part. So when they opened, and lured in with promises of cleanliness and distance I was skeptically intrigued. I've legit been impressed every time. 4-6pm it's a lill packed and there's that guy who likes to pull his mask down and pick his nose. (Legit- he's real) but the staff are always quick to offer a free disposable mask to anyone who's struggling with their masks staying over their nose and mouth. Also. Like always. Going to the gym off peak is always better. It's 100% cleaner than my 90 a month gym. Pf has more amenities and newer equipment in multiple locations at a fraction of the cost. But there's no free weight bench press or rack. Only smith machines. read more

Pretty clean, nice machines if you're into that. This is a great place if you're looking to run on a treadmill (there's like 40 of them). However, if you want to weightlift, like actual weightlifting, this is not the place. There isn't a barbell in the building. Everything is a machine, aside from a rack of dumbbells. I found it amazing that there's only one pull up bar in the entire gym. I gave this gym two stars since it really only caters to runners, however like I said, if you want to run, this gym deserves five stars. read more

Planet fitness arrived just in time. My long-time gym, Evolve Fitness, doubled my monthly rate and I'd been on the hunt bcz the rate didn't justify the service. I was thrilled when I received the PF mailer. It. Is. Huge! I can't foresee waiting for a machine during peak hours. Aside from lack of towel service it has everything and more one could need. There are dozens of targeted weight machines to choose from and a sea of treadmills and ellipticals. Oddly, Battle ropes are placed in front of the locker room so I can't imagine them ever being used bcz that's also the stretching area and it gets crowded. At the opposite end is the Spa section for relaxing and tanning. The hydromassage chairs are sooooo addictive and warm. This is much needed when the a/c is blasting throughout the facility and you're in sports bra and start cooling off. The locker room is BIG. REALLY BIG. There are 2 separate rooms for changing if you're not a crazy skin-walker like me and the lighting on the mirrors can be changed (dope AF) if you're into breaking rules and sneaking locker room selfies (please consider the privacy of those around you). For now it's way too cold to shower after your sweat session. A few of us mentioned it to the staff but management has to address it. Overall, I'm a happy camper. I then received a contract charging me an additional startup fee of over $55 and am being told I can't cancel at any time. At this point, it's my word against the club's and they are not honoring the fact that my contract does not reflect the offer I signed up for. This place is always filthy, smells like mold, and many machines are broken. I cancelled my "cancel any time" membership, and they continued to charge me for another month. I then left several messages for Carlos, the regional manager (since none of the employees on site can assist with billing issues) and I have yet to receive a call back. Stay away! read more

The location is convenient, and by far the cheapest option in the area. The equipment is okay and rather worn, but workable. The largest issue is the consistent lateness and late opening. I, like many other members, like early morning workouts, so we show up at 6 am when the gym opens. However, the staff is consistently late. The gym often opens well past the time advertised and is suppose. It is always hit or miss, and there is never an attempt from employees or management to rectify this issue - leaving members who plan their early-morning workouts locked out, despite paying for access. read more

For the longest time I resisted the urge to join because I am well aware of the all-too-common business practice that virtually all chain gyms follow: getting you on an auto-charge credit card contract, and then deliberately continuing to charge you long after you cancel, EVEN IF you have followed all their deliberately convoluted steps required for cancellation---basically, you have to get a lawyer involved in many cases and even then you are unlikely to ever get reimbursed for the bogus extra charges. That's the main reason I've been a longtime vocal YMCA proponent and member---the Y is the one place you can be 100% sure will *not* pull such greedy slimeball-capitalist tricks on you, being a non-profit. However, when I found out that PF now offers a prepaid membership option, I couldn't resist---decided to use a credit card that I plan to simply cancel a month or two before the prepaid period ends to preclude any shady stuff. The #1 reason I joined this particular location was its being very convenient to where I live and work, and the fact that it's open until midnight M-Th, 10pm on Fridays, and 7pm on weekends...not the 24 hours I would have most appreciated (only a few PFs still do that). However, it's still open later than my local Y which closes at 9:45pm M-Th, 7:45pm on Fridays, and 5:45pm on weekends...those extra hours make all the difference for someone with my schedule and habits. And I have to say, I do enjoy the high ceilings and excellent Life Fitness equipment including several machines with independently-moving L/R weight stacks. I do miss having a sauna (the gimmicky "Hydromassage" chairs they have here are completely useless), not having barbells for my Olympic lifts, no Keiser spin bikes, and no boxing bags---but hey, that's why I'm keeping my Cambridge Y membership...it also tends to be far less congested during the usual 6-8pm peak hours than this PF. Overall, I consider the extra ten bucks a month I've paid to PF to basically be a convenience fee. And, I have to confess the much younger crowd does afford a nice bit of eye candy and extra motivation! If they offered a prepaid plan for the black card which allows access to multiple locations I would be sorely tempted, but am not willing to trust anybody with any auto-charge contract. My only two small niggly complaints about this place: the dumbbells while thankfully going up to a respectable 75lbs, have a very bad knurling that actually makes them SLIPPERY (I haven't used lifting gloves in years but will have to buy another pair just for those, have never seen dumbbells like this in 30 years of lifting), and the filtered water dispenser at the water fountain is pretty nasty---wouldn't be surprised if that's their way of nudging you to buy a bottled drink from the front desk. read more

This llocation is very small and not well thought out the free area to stretch and use floor mats is tremendously small and people need to walk around you and through you to get to the locker rooms. Hand Soap is nearly impossible to come by in the washrooms and when it is there it is watery non soap product read more

First off let me say it's not easy to find and if you drive you will park your car across the street in this dilapidated parking lot. (That is the only bad thing I have to say.) The manager is off the hook here; she is a New Yorker by the way. She makes you feel at home in a different state. The place is tiny, cozy but a tad old looking. The machines worked well did what it was supposed to. The staff was moving around doing there thing -- nothing to complain about regarding this facility. Boston needs to add more planet fitness center, in the hood areas like Roxbury. I will be back to work out. read more

Full disclosure: I go to another gym 3-4 days a week and only go to planet fitness once a week or so. The pros: friendly staff (who periodically wipe down machines), low cost, nice locker room, convenient location, not very crowded, great selection of machines. The cons: I'm unable to do many of my favorite exercises because they require a barbell. Nevertheless, with dumbells going up to 75 pounds, you can get creative and get a great workout in no matter what body parts you are training. I'll keep my membership because of the value. read more

This gym is a great addition to the gyms in Cambridge. Other gyms nearby charge you $50-100/month while PF only charges you $10-20. Surely, it can be very crowded right after 5pm, but if you go before 4pm or after 8pm, it's not bad at all. It's not the biggest gym, and it doesn't have free weights catering to huge bodybuilders, but it's sufficient for an average gym goer. So, if this location has enough weights and machines for your needs, it's a good deal. One con is, you can't bring your own equipment which I found annoying. So, I have to use my ab roller at home.(if I remember) But for the price, there is no other gym around :) read more

I was really excited to return to the gym as soon as they were open as I figured the staff is always on top of things and surely there would be a good handle on the mask policy during covid - HOWEVER- that is unfortunately not the case. Mind you, coming to the gym during a pandemic is risky enough considering it is a place where germs are abundant and people are dripping in sweat. I usually go in the morning and i've seen quite a few guys not wearing their mask properly and it's infuriating that staff doesn't reprimand these people. It makes me feel uncomfortable when i see these people not practicing proper mask etiquette when other people are and even more upsetting that the staff are just letting this happen. I'm not sure if it's because staff are afraid of confrontation but it just makes me feel unsafe to come here and enjoy a solid workout. read more

The gym is fine. I'm writing this review because they charged my annual fee twice this year. When I brought this up to them, they acknowledged the error and told me I would be getting a refund, but it's been over a month and I still have not received it. They do not allow you to pay by credit card, so I can't dispute the charge to get my money back. I have emailed and called multiple times and have been told the refund is being processed. I have never heard of a refund taking over a month to process. Now they are not responding at all to my emails and I get an "undeliverable" message. From reading past yelp reviews, it seems like this is not the first time they've had this issue. Update: Refund finally processed after 6 weeks. read more

Somehow, this planet fitness ended up putting another person's membership on my bank account. I canceled my membership, but cannot get them to stop charging my bank account because they put my bank account information under another person's membership. I have been in four times in person trying to make this stop, each time being told that I would be followed up with and that the charges would stop, and I have not been contacted. It's such a colossal administrative mistake on their part that they are refusing to do anything about. Do not sign up for a membership, they will never stop charging you. read more

I like the price and despite the fact that several machines are out of order all the time I can usually find enough working ones to get a workout in. My huge problem is with cleanliness, particularly the bathrooms. Pre-pandemic, the women's bathroom, including shower area, was always super clean. It was a great place to shower after a workout. The soaps in the sinks and showers were always filled. Fast forward to now. The bathroom and showers are absolutely DISGUSTING all the time, to the point of being dangerous. It's obvious that they are literally never cleaned, as the same mold slime and literally the same hair balls in the same spots have been therefor 6 weeks now. No soap at the sinks. No shower gel in the showers. Soap scum and dirty paper towels all over the floor. The most appalling thing is that the staff doesn't care. I've brought this up with staff 3 times and nothing was ever done. I was repeatedly told I was the only person who has complained, which I find impossible to believe. The 3rd time, the guy interrupted my polite query by saying "Look are you here to work out or not?" And proceeded to turn his back to me. Plus: good location; Minus: no maintenance - more and more machines are out of order; water fountain's filter is in the red zone for weeks before being replaced; broken lockers remain broken; lately, the individual TV monitors have been non-functional for over a month. Staff ("Team Members") are generally uninterested, often focused on their cell phones - you can often walk in without flashing your membership card, and the paper towel dispensers don't get refilled timely. read more

I started coming to this location when they first opened up after the lockdown and the staff were so professional and kept the gym clean and sanitized. They do an excellent job enforcing the mask policies as well as ensuring the space is truly a non judgment free zone. I always enjoy checking in with the staff here and they always greet me with a smile and wish me a great night when I leave for the night! read more
