I agree with two of the previous reviews--the Centereach location has been declining for a long time. Despite getting new equipment several weeks ago, which is much appreciated, the facility continues to be filthy--especially the bathrooms. The same pieces of garbage remain on the bathroom floors for several days at a time, and the sinks and toilets are rarely cleaned--using the bathroom is a very unpleasant experience. The paper towel dispensers are frequently empty, and aren't checked for hours at a time, never mind filled. The staff rarely leaves the front desk. I use other Planet Fitness facilities as well, and none are as filthy and nasty as this one. The manager at Centereach had said many times that she will act to change things, but it continues to get worse. read more

I've been a member of this location for years, however it continues to steadily decline. Went last a few weeks ago, and went to three separate cleaning stations that were all out of paper towels. It shouldn't be too much to ask for the club to provide simple upkeep, especially when it comes to cleanliness- this should be the absolute bare minimum! Better off getting a membership with another gym. I'd much rather have adequate service and spend more money elsewhere then spend less at planet fitness and have poor service. read more

I have been a member of Planet fitness for many years. The Centereach location is really declining. It is dirty. They are not filling the paper towel holders. When I asked if they could, they said "We ran out of paper towels and are waiting for a delivery". Who ever heard of a gym running out of paper towels?!! There are sometimes five staff members behind the counter doing nothing but looking at their phones. The locker room sometimes has several stalls with either no toilet paper or toilet paper all over the floor. One of the soap dispensers are broken for several weeks in the bathroom. I'm a service member who was away and had some account issues that didn't go as planned. Reached out to the team to get help. Not only did he return my call, he did everything he could to make things right via account review and making cost adjustments. Fine print: sold on "cancel anytime". Later I'm told I can only cancel via postage, mailing a physical letter. Should've cost me $10 to use the gym for a month. Have had $70 taken from bank account, will have $10 more until I'm able to cancel without travel or mail. Also signed me up under the wrong last name. Close. Great hours. (I canceled my Lucille Roberts membership due to them closing at 8pm during the week and 3 pm on the weekends). If I had one complaint it would be, why 1000 treadmills and 1000 ellipticals?? I know the company prides themselves on the amount of machines available but c'mon. There would be so much more room for different things if you cut those machines in half. My son joined me ONCE at PF and decided to go to LA Fitness with his brother instead because there are not enough free weight machines. Other than that, the place is pretty clean. I bring my own Clorox wipes because I don't like using the brown paper towels and "unknown" watered down looking spray they give us to sanitize the machines. Viruses are real and I choose to be responsible for my own protection against them. read more

For many years I was a Planet Fitness member in New York City. Now that I'm in Long Island, I've visited this specific PF location with a friend who's a member. It's by far one of the best Planet Fitness gyms that I've gone to. The place is very well maintained in terms of cleanliness and organization. The staff is very friendly. As a guest I've also gotten to enjoy the Hydro Massage so I highly recommend that. TIP: If you go late nights, the place is usually empty. read more

I don't understand the hate for this place. At $10 for a basic membership, it's the best deal in town and they have every machine someone would need to run a basic workout. It's not perfect, but it's not horrible either. As someone else mentioned the TVs needed to be replaced what looks like a decade ago. I never watch them anyway. From what I see, no one else does either. The staff is young and in some cases not very well trained, but aside from signing in, it's a non issue. The addition of free classes are a very nice treat. As are the pizza nights and bagel days (though seriously, this might be counterproductive food choices). Overall, I'm happy with my membership here. It's a good way to build up a sweat without breaking your bank. Just make sure you sign up during a promotion to avoid a large signup fee. read more

1) I HATE that they claim to be a "24hr" gym when in reality 3 days out of the week they are not. I'm a nursing student and only have time to work out on the weekends (fri-sun) however, they are NEVER open. It really sucks because instead of going to a bar, my perfect weekend night would be to workout around 10pm -11pm & relieve some stress, but they are NEVER open during the weekend at those times. I would drive to another branch however this one is only 5 minutes away from me and the closest one after that isn't really a "24 hr" one either. Also, I've been hearing about this "Beauty Angel/Total Body Enhancement booth" apparently other planet fitness's have it but this one doesn't? (it's more then just the red-light therapy.) What's up with that, why do I pay for a black card when I don't get even get the perks of it truly being 24hrs or this new black card feature. Lastly, I've been thinking that maybe I should just cancel my membership (no reason paying 20bucks a month for a place I never can go to because the hrs aren't convenient.) However, whenever I inquire about how to go about doing that, I get the run-around, & get told I have to mail a letter apparently a Dr's note to to corporate office? Um...last time I checked, I joined with the "no commitment" option, I was under the impression that, that means I can leave & not hassled. Then I was looking up how to go about canceling & I read all the horror stories about how you will still continue to charge peoples cards (like 3 times the monthly payment) for a few months whenever someone cancels (even if the person signed up with a no commitment clause.) Read the fine print before you sign up & be warned that "no commitment" isn't really so, just like "24 hours" isn't either. read more

I was a member of that location for 4 years and liked it a lot. I paid my $99.00 membership in full. Unfortunately 2 months into the membership I had to move to Queens. It was not feasible for me to continue the membership. They refused to refund me for the 10 months. I was considering going back there, but that location keeping my money turned me off from returning. If that location did the right thing and refunded my money I would be back there. I love working out here! The place is clean! The staff is very friendly & fun to converse with! They are extremely helpful! They address your concern immediately. I love the hydro-lounge chair it really relaxes you, it massages you with hot water under this chair at a high speed and your muscles will thank you!!!! I also love having the option of getting a quick tan if I want. Not much, but a few improvements would be great... they could add more hammer strength machines, like have 2 of each one it would be perfect! There are many young men, middle age men & women that use these.... so they could use more free weights & some at higher poundage too! Maybe a 2nd of each ab, calve, tricep & bicep machines They have 4 universal type machines so you feel safe bench pressing because the bar hooks on this slide bar, so if you struggle you can hook it and not worry about it crushing you if you can't push the weight back up! They do have a ton of cardio and many different ones to choose from. Love the yellow 30 min workout area. It's great to get a full workout in on all body parts! Even the clothing is so reasonably priced! I bought a sweatshirt and it actual fits me! An Inexpensive gym bag I grabbed is perfect too! The shower area is very private with private changing rooms. That is great most gyms think women should just walk around naked getting dressed. They give you privacy. Even the locker room area is a good size! The have fresh flowers on front deck in bathrooms it's just a great place to workout! You do not feel judged by anyone working out there! The few things they could add will not make you want to go elsewhere. This is a great gym. Of course if you grunt because it could happen your not getting thrown out. Stuff happens!! Best is you do not & will not hear any bone-head weight lifters BS'ing about muscles, reps, or protein drinks etc... Plus there are no young genetically enhanced girls.. so busy staring at themselves and making sure their makeup & hair is perfect it makes others feel bad about themselves!! So None of those! It is what makes this gym worth it!!!! Join this gym & you'll be so happy... because your not judged, not made to feel uncomfortable, can go at your own pace! You will want to go everyday and get fit & feel better about you.... just for you!! read more

I've been waiting a while to write this review. I was a member of this gym for many years and i finally had to call it quits. There is a decent amount of cardio machines for a small gym so I will give them that. However there is not many machines and I often come across someone just SITTING on a specific machine and texting rather than working out. Staff is nice enough. I find it odd that they have a pizza night and candy sitting out on the counter when there are people there trying to lose weight. My biggest complaint is the cleanliness of this gym. I can't tell you how many times I came across used sweaty tissues in the cup holders. The last time I worked out here I was back from a three or so week hiatus and i did what was supposed to be 45 minutes on the elliptical but gave up after 20 because i couldn't breathe. This wasn't because of me being out of shape. Nope. It was due to my severe dust allergy. If you look up at the ceiling you can see LAYERS of dust coating the black pipes. This is not the desk staffs fault by any means. Whoever is in charge of actually deep-cleaning this place has failed. I ended my membership after that. If I am going to put my lazy ass through the ringer and run , open-mouthed and gasping for air, i would like to do it in a gym that actually cleans their dusty ceilings. read more

This PF location really deserves a 2. Nothing is really terrible, per se, but mediocre would be generous in some aspects. The workout area is usually very clean; if you're there late at night, there's a good chance you'll see an employee with a back-mounted vacuum cleaner. On the other hand, there are urine stains in the men's bathroom that have been there longer than I have, which is the better part of eight months. None of the machines seem to be broken, but more than a handful seem to be near the end of their operational life. Also, I frequently use the assisted squat machine, but always have to go over to one of the other machines between sets because there are not enough weights for all four of them. Recently, the showers hot water has broken, not that I'd want to shower there. Furthermore, of the ten TVs, easily half are on their last leg; I know the monthly fee is low, but I'm sure they can afford to update the TVs once a decade. I avoid going at peak times because it becomes almost impossible to do anything without having to wait 5-10 minutes, which can really break the rhythm. Staff are usually 20-somethings who always seem to be chatting with somebody across the counter or browsing the web. I would describe this location as slightly below average. With a bit more managerial oversight and passion from the employees, this place could be a lot better. read more

The membership is fairly cheap, equipment is okay. I'm quite unsatisfied with the receptionists there. The girls seem like all teens and show little politeness and never smile to the customer. No greeting when you entering/ they just look at you like you owe them million dollars. One time I forget my key plate in the car and just told them my last three-digit # and they forced me back to the car to get it and show it to them... If I were the boss, I'll never hire such employees who make the customer uncomfortable. I'll just close my account next month and don't want to see those impolite teens any more. read more

When I was a sixth grader, I would have loved the color scheme of these gyms! Alas, I am much older and the colors remind me of a tacky casino where you could loose a hundred bucks in just a couple of minutes... Esthetic aside, this is a pretty spacious gym, lots of bikes and treadmills for cardio. The arrangement of the machines doesn't make much sense accept for a small area in the back where it is set up for doing a circuit. What is best about this fitness center is that you won't loose enormous amounts of cash by joining, you'll just loose the pounds you work to shed. read more

Cleanliness: I put this first because this is a big deal for me. You can have top of the line everything, but if it's filthy, it's useless. This location is pretty well kept, and there are a number of cleaning stations on the floor. I can't say I've ever seen any of he staff cleaning equipment during the day, but I'm guessing there's a cleaning crew that takes care of it. The locker rooms (at least, the men's locker room), is pretty clean. The changing area looks like it's swept a few times per day, and the showers are OK if you bring flip flops. I've seen leftover bars of soap in the showers for a day or two at a clip, so spots may get overlooked. Range of Equipment: It's Planet Fitness, not Powerhouse, so don't go in expecting an endless string of squat racks and benches. That's not happening here. There are some free weights, but mostly hammer strength and universal machines. I would like to see some more free weights, but I understood their setup going in, so it is what it is. The cardio equipment is decent, though some of the control panels may be a little flaky (resetting randomly, etc.). Again, it's not the end of the world, and there are plenty of machines to use, so it shouldn't interfere with your workout. They also have a circuit training area (PF Express), which is supposed to be circuit training only. I don't use this area, but I do often see people there using the same machine for long periods of time, or people from the floor using the equipment there for a set or two. When I previously used the Hicksville location, the use of this area for circuit training only was enforced by the staff. I haven't seen that happen here. It doesn't affect me, but if this is your thing, you may want to be aware of this. Equipment Condition: Overall, the equipment is in good shape. It's rare that I see an "Out of Order" sign, and when I do, it's usually fixed within a day or two. Some of the machine have cables that are starting to wear/fray a bit. I'll see how long it takes them to be replaced. Location: This gym is located in a mall in a busy shopping center, but aside from the week of Christmas, it's usually pretty easy to park. The parking lot is well lit, and so far, hasn't been subject to break-ins, like one of the other locations I use. As I said, this location is in a small mall, with some windows facing into the mall itself. It's a little weird, kind of like being in a fish bowl at times, but the mall itself isn't too busy, so it's not a lot of people. Staff: I can't say much here because, aside from scanning my card when I walk in, I have no interaction with the staff. They're just kind of ... there, I guess. Corporate: I've been using the same checking account (not credit card) since the day I signed up, and every now and then, I'll notice that the monthly dues are taken out late, and I'm charged a late charge. It's not due to a low balance on the account, just that I'm billed late. I've had to call several times to have these late charges removed, which is usually done without incident. It's been a while since this happened, and hopefully it's done, but I'd suggest staying on top of this. Changing my home club (when I changed jobs) has been like pulling teeth. The website seems to provide a way to do this (which takes up to 15 business days to process?), but then, it reverts back to my original club. I've tried going to my original home club and what I thought was my new home club, and neither one was able to provide much assistance, as they are franchised. It's kind of a pain to have to drive 30 miles to a club near my old office every time I try to get this straightened out. Overall: For the price, it is what you make of it. If you want to be Mr. Olympia, this isn't the place for you. If you want to do a basic workout in relative peace, this is your place. read more

Went here with my brother since he has a membership. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It is a rather large gym, pretty clean and there are many machines to use. For the low price you really can't beat it. Bottomline: If you want a gym that offers you use of just machines, by all means this is a good choice, but if you want to take classes this is not your gym. read more

Planet Fitness isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. While the environment isn't as attractive as other gyms, you have everything there that you need. The free weights aren't terrible, but they have a cheap, rubber feeling to them. I assume this is to minimize damage if someone drops it on themselves, or on the ground. The machines are relatively modern. The aerobic machines aren't too bad. They're not top of the line, but they get the job done. My main gripe, believe it or not, is the televisions mounted above the aerobic machines. They're old tube televisions, many of which are discolored or broken. I know, right?! Crazy stuff. But you cannot beat it for $10/month. I go with my girlfriend from time to time. She does her thing, I do mine. Enjoy lifting things up and putting them down! read more

For the most part this is a nice gym. Good equipment, nice people, not too crowded. But his renovation is really taking a long time. The air conditioning has not been working properly, it has been very hot in there. And now there is no men's bathroom? We have to go outside and use a port a pottie? That crazy!! Really At first I thought it was a joke. But the men have to go OUTSIDE and use a PORT A POTTY. I don't know what else to say except please get these renovations over with quickly. read more

I had recently moved to Centereach and signed up thinking "no commitment" so it would be easy to cancel if I found I didn't like it. I went a few times and found it to be pretty good but I work too many hours and get home too late and just don't feel like going there enough so I want to cancel. You wouldn't let me cancel on-line because that would be too easy for me so I went there in person months ago and the guy at the desk said I couldn't cancel because I wasn't a member for 1 year?? I wasn't too happy but fine so I walked out now it has to be a year so I went back last week, but the place is closed for renovation?? I'm sick and tired of paying $10.00 a month for nothing so how to I cancel? Plus I can't log into my account, I know I'm using the right password but it won't work. Tried to re-set the password numerous times but never receive the e-mail that was supposedly sent to me. I would certainly think about signing up again sometime in the future, but you make it so damn annoying to cancel, I really doubt I'll sign up again. I just cancelled Netflix after years, no problem, just went on-line, nice and simple. But you guys? Making this be done in person is like some form of cheap punishment. If I have to send a letter, where do I send it???? I don't want to pay for this anymore! Again, this has nothing to do with the gym or the staff, my complaint is this rotten practice of stating "cancel anytime," but then making the process as aggravating as possible. If you are considering joining the Planet Fitness in Centereach, I am IMPLORING you to decide against it. Yes, the $10/month price is good and I have been a member of the one in Melville and the one in Levittown with no problem, but this location in Centereach is far below acceptable standards. The first few times I went in there I was helped by a young fair haired guy. He was friendly and helpful. When I went in there a few days ago, I spoke to a different young fair haired guy (sorry I didn't catch their names), but I asked him if it would be OK if I brought my daughter and let her sit in the chairs there. He said yeah, sure, no problem. So when I went in there tonight, he was there again and I brought my daughter. To make a long story short, even though tonight he said it was fine, a different worker, a female named Amelia, took it upon herself to storm over to me and speak to me in a highly aggressive manner about my daughter's presence. I was quite surprised and taken aback at the severely confrontational tone she was speaking to me in. I felt defenseless, and wondered why the young guy had repeatedly said it was ok if they were just going to attack me. The customer service she provided was astoundingly bad, and by looking at her quite ample figure, she apparently has never set foot on any of the work out equipment. Either that or she goes to town on pizza / bagel days. But since this is the "judgment free zone", I digress. Is summary, do not set foot in this gym unless you want to be verbally attacked. read more

Pretty good overall. Clean and the staff is nice but the circuit machines can be limited of u go at peak times. They don't have a stair machine but overall I like the place especially for the price. My biggest grip is the place closes early on Friday night and way too early on weekends only until 7 pm. Could be a little cleaner not as good as the one in Port Jefferson but overall you can't complain for the price. read more

Jeans, tank tops and sandals are the norm here, I can care less but if your offended by work boots and jeans and tank tops then complain to management. If I could give it a zero, I would. Place is always packed. They don't really enforce cleaning the machines by the patrons. I canceled because my new place had a gym and less packed. It took 3 months to cancel. Payed off balance with new credit card and cancelled. The next month they charged my credit card for membership. WTF!! Second time had to go back to again cancel my membership and notify my credit card company that they didn't have authorization to charge my card. Then they had a nerve to send me a bill because I didn't cancel in time the month before. OMG. Talk about incompetence. Despite the fact I cancelled 2 months before, they had the nerve to say THAT!!! BTW. The say they treated me the last time was as if I was an idiot for being pissed off about having to fight a bill for a third time. I never felt more furious for being put into a position to have to go back there and they barely even bothered to look at the ppw. Why make me come down if u could have done it over phone? Especially if u can see my file and see I already cancelled. To have fun at my expense and waste my time?? IF U GO HERE, DON'T GIVE THEM UR CREDIT CARD INFO. One word: HydroMachine. YES. If you're weighing in on whether to go $10 or $20, this machine of the Gods will convince you to go Black Card. PLUS the guest policy with Black Card is pretty amazing. So back to the Hydro, you lay down and touch the screen to how hard you want the gushing water inside this perfect contraption to pound you from head to toe. You can even pause it at certain spots to get knots out! I love this gym. Sure, it gets crowded during peak hours but I never go at peak hours. I like the night since you pretty much have the gym to yourself; no wait times. The staff is friendly and accomodating. You wipe down equipment after yourself, which I find to be more sanitary than more expensive gyms which usually get wiped down much less. The bikes are old but two types of ellipticals (one to tone the arms and the other which primarily hones in on the glutes) make me a happy camper and keep my body in shape. The TVs are pre-set, one of which has Big Bang Theory usually playing from 730-11 and after that you'll have all the late-night talk shows to take your pick from. News broadcasts are always playing (CNN, FOX) which I'm not a fan of so late-nite I'm usually glued to the one channel playing Chopped to get recipe ideas while lifting my butt. In the back of the gym you will find circuit training and ab area, which is nice and private for those of you that are shy. The gym also has tanning for Black Card members who want to stay tan year-round. Me, not so much, however did I mention that Hydro? ;) read more
