One of thee best places to work out comfortably,...ideal machines,...and a very helpful staff

As a former Green Beret, we are taught to suppress our feelings before we allow them to take over. I have used every ounce of strength in my body to not write this review but what I experienced at the Centerville Planet Fitness was so horrific, my intuitions took over and this is the result. To anyone I affect negatively through this review, I apologize in advance, for I am beyond all self control in my current state. With that said, business owners should be shaken down to their core upon the sight of a notification saying "Walter R. left a review on Yelp. I typically work out at the Sugar Creek location due its proximity to my residence. Due to a commitment in the area, I was left no choice but to work out at the Centerville location. I've heard word about the poor quality but I chose to ignore those anecdotes. "How bad could it be?" I thought as I pulled into the parking lot. How naive I was. I firmly believe God stays in heaven because he is ashamed of what his people have created. Number one on that list is the Halo TV series but cemented firmly at number 2 is the Centerville Planet Fitness. Fighting on the front lines of Afghanistan couldn't have prepared me for how traumatic my experience at this gym would proceed to be. My first warning should've been a vacant front desk. I decided to excuse it because kids these days don't want to work. I proceeded to look around the room and it seemed to be empty for no good reason. They could've opened a whole new gym with the amount of vacant square feet in this establishment. Confused but still on a time crunch, I was focused on getting my workout done. I entered the stretching area and looked for a mat and upon entering I thought I entered the daycare. Turns out they don't even have a daycare area. I found one mat in the entire room and it was fully under the glute extension machine. With every ounce of strength left in my battle-scarred body, I heroically lifted the machine with my bare hands. Upon pulling the mat out from under the machine, I noticed a shit stain so cemented on the mat, you couldn't pressure wash it off. I've been through worse so I pushed through. After my stretching I went over to the free weights to do my bicep curls. I noticed the dumbbells only go up to 60 which is pathetic. With genetics as superior as my own, my first born son weighed 60 pounds fresh out the womb. Not only is there a lack of serious weight, you'd have a better chance of finding the one piece than you are to find a pair of dumbbells the same weight. As I grabbed one 45 in my left hand and a 22.5 in my right, I went to sit on a bench. As I sat down, the bench combusted on the spot and pieces flew everywhere. Due to my superior genetics, I was left unscathed, but that couldn't be said for the innocent people around me. It looked like a UFC locker room after a pay per view with all the injuries that occurred in that single moment. I think the adjuster handle flew and hit a pregnant woman in the stomach at Mach 10 and likely killed the baby. Part of me felt responsible for I should've read the reviews of this establishment. At this point I decided to leave. As I was walking out, I was pleasantly surprised to see an employee at the desk but what they said to me as I was leaving was the furthest thing from pleasant. He dangled a tootsie roll in front of my face and said "want some candy fatass?" They say God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers. In that instance, I must've been tougher than Chuck Norris, for it was surely a battle within my self to not hurt this individual. That lost soul was lucky I read Atomic Habits by James Clear or else I would've left him so mangled that the authorities wouldn't be able to identify the body, as I am capable of doing with one hand tied behind my back. I went to confession later in the day, for my thoughts alone could've been a mortal sin. If I was a part of Project Hail Mary and the only way to obtain astrophage was to travel to the Centerville Planet Fitness, the world would perish. The aforementioned commitment I had was my fellow Green Berets funeral, for he took his own life after going to the Lebanon Pike Taco Bell. If I was left with the choice of going to Centerville Planet Fitness and making it on time, or going to the Sugar Creek one and missing it entirely due to the distance, he would be in my thoughts and prayers, but I would be absolutely late 100 out of 100 times. God, if you're real and if you happen to read Yelp reviews, undo any creation that could've lead to any decisions that lead to the founding of this establishment. If this establishment was never built, there would be no war in Iran, the Epstein list would be released in full, and the Halo television series would never have been released. read more

It's been 2 years since my last critique of the Centerville location. Aerobic equipment is old, dirty (snot rags in Cup holders). The one employee is on his phone the entire time with no customer service skills. Must be this generation?? lol. Excuse Like I have mentioned before I travel a lot and this location is the worst planet fitness that I have visited around US. Yes and it's 1 mile from my residence! Great. Get your business together and update your equipment. Go to Springboro and make sure your payments are not going to Centerville or Get your membership elsewhere! The temperature in the gym is so unbearable. They have only two fans on ceiling. The treadmills don't have the fans like the new equipment at updated planet fitness. The gym is dirty small and not alot of the knee equipment. The staff just leans at the desk all day. read more

Today my boyfriend and I were working out using the adjustable incline benches here. While my boyfriend was doing his set, the bench broke and collapsed to the bottom position while he was using heavy weights. He took the bench to the workers up front and told them what happened, without even checking it they walked it back out to the floor. My boyfriend then took it back up there for a second time, being a previous gym manager, he knows that is a liability and also doesn't want anyone else to get hurt. They kept bringing it back, checking it by pushing on it with their hands... or just sitting on it when they weigh probably 115lbs soaking wet while my boyfriend weighs 250lbs and using heavy weights when it happened. It did not break when I used it before him. Other members came up and was blown away that it was happening and mad that the employees were bringing it back, putting their members in danger. The issue is someone could get seriously injured. What if this bench was at a smith machine? Or someone using even heavier weights and mess up their shoulders? One of the workers was named Brent Lawson. Do better planet fitness. Hire people who actually care about their members. read more

Planet Fitness - Gyms Near Me - Centerville, Ohio

I've worked out at this location for close to 3 years and I have no complaints! It's been a great experience as i have gained 10 pounds of muscle and have gone from a 45 pound dumbbell flat press to 75 pounds, squat went from 140 to 260, etc. The staff is insanely encouraging and the long haired dude behind the desk is second to none. the 'undefeated king' is very personable, dedicated to making sure everyone has a good experience and he is always making sure PF supplies are stocked. Dude is always talking to someone and there always seems to be laughter in the conversation! Keep up the great work! read more

Going to say what everyone else is saying.. this is literally the nastiest gym I've ever been into. This place hasn't been cleaned in years. Thick layers of dust under machines. Metal sticking out in the locker room, scum all over. Is there not a GM or someone who comes by and checks on this place and the employees. This is just a really dirty gym. There is hair, dust and cobwebs every where. Poorly maintained. There always seems to be a roof leak (buckets placed at random locations in the gym). One positive point, the staff does seem friendly. Apparently lunks are allowed now... an extremely rude guy took over the equipment I was using today. My keys and water were there and when I said excuse me sir I'm using that... he said I don't think so and sat down. When I told the 3 people at the front desk they looked at me like so what and then explained they can't approach people while they're on the floor and would say something to him when he left. So much for no gym intimidation. I'm a regular and felt intimidated by this dude... would hate to see a newbie get treated like that by this guy. Forgot to mention... when he got off the fly machine he looked at me then pulled his underwear out of his crack. Super classy. Not a great pic, but avoid the dude on the fly machine. I think it was the manager... the lady with the short hair and crazy long nails? I don't know her name. I'll ask next time I go in. THE LUNK ALARM HAS TO GO! The only thing I hate about Planet Fitness is the LUNK ALARM sign. It is sexist and very judgemental in itself. Not all "lunks" are men, not every man who has a large water bottle is bad, and a man wearing a muscle shirt is still way more covered than many of the younger women. Ladies with tops like bikinis and tight short pants where you see their thongs in the back side (and I cant say here what all I've seen in the front). People who sit on weight machines doing nothing for 20 minutes while they talk on cell phones, those who put their clothes and water bottle on a machine to hold it while they are using another machine. Place is being remodeled so now is the time to lose the LUNK sign...If you truly can claim to be a place that doesn't judge.... read more

The filthiest Planet I've been to. Save yourself the potential staph infection and go to the Middletown location. I only come to this location when absolutely necessary. Machines haven't been wiped in months, (see pic), empty bottles left in corners, dirty mirrors, mats piled on the floor in the corner, floors disgusting. Middletown location is where it's at- that management and all employees never stop cleaning, always hello and and goodbye- 1/5 for this location bc I can't leave 0 stars. I've been a member of Planet Fitness for awhile and been through several employees and different schedules until I found the one that works for me. I would say that if there were updates to the machines (swap out some you have too many of and replace with a few different ones) things would flow better. I am concerned at times with the performance of the bikes for instance - I can tell they need to be re-calibrated (or something) as I get different readings doing the same exercise on different bikes right next to each other. The overnight staff person (Todd) is friendly, outgoing, helpful, courteous and seems to try and stay on top of everything that needs to be done to keep the facility looking decent. If Corporate would just stay on top of the machine repairs (replacement of pads, etc). It would be helpful. It is kind of frustrating needing to do a 12 minute ab workout and have machines out of service for 2-3 weeks at a time because things are out for repairs. B. Hayes read more

perfect if you just want a gym where you can tan. use the equipment and get assistance if needed. meets my needs and then some. typically busy when i go but people are courteous and generally are only on the machines for about 10-20 minutes so you can get your workout done in about an hour depending on what your are trying to do. i use about 4 machines myself per day. i like it and i'm pretty picky read more

I'm a black card member so I can go to any PF with my membership. This location is on the smaller side but seemed to be well maintained. No one was at the desk when I checked in, and it took me a few minutes to find someone to give me access to the wi-fi. Other PF's have the password posted for members. This location also didn't have stair steppers, which is disappointing. Some of the cable attachments seemed to be lacking as well. Overall, its a fine location, I've been to worse gyms. This is the dirtiest Planet Fitness I've ever walked into. The floor is covered in dirt and hair, looks like it's never been swept or vacuumed. The mirrors covered in specks like the never get cleaned. The restroom and shower are almost unusable they are so disgusting. There is no way that any routine cleaning is being done at this facility or any cleaning whatsoever. The staff just stand around behind the counter and talk with their friends that pop into the gym left and right. You have a 50/50 chance that the paper towel dispenser will be empty and then you just go down the line until one has some still. All this while upwards to 4 employees just hang out, joke around and laugh with their buddies. I wouldn't suggest this Planet Fitness to anyone. There are many nice and clean Planet Fitnesses with helpful staffs in the area and would highly recommend you go to one of those instead, even if it's a longer drive. This is in regards to the Planet Fitness cancellation policy. I recently moved out of state from where i was a member at Planet Fitness. I tried to cancel on-line and over the phone and the only way to cancel is either by physically going to the gym you signed up at (not an option if you move to the other side of the country), or by sending them a letter via certified mail. Not only is that extremely inconvenient and sneaky, but that means you also have to pay to send a letter via certified mail, and wait for it to be received and processed (What if it never gets there?) It also means you will likely receive at least one more charge to your account if it's not processed before the next monthly charge. What a scam. read more

Wade Shaw is the manager that refuses to credit me back from October till January . He is extremely rude and condescending. At the end of our discussion he refused to give me anyone above him to contact he said there was no one above him. He didn't even give me the number to the corporate office I had to go online and find out myself. The gym is okay until you try to cancel your membership, then they act like they don't understand English. I've been trying to cancel my membership with them since October. An associate who was not a manager finally did it today. The associate said that this happens all of the time. She said she could not credit me back but I could call back and talk to the manager. When I called back and spoke to Wade the manager, he refused to credit me back for all the months that I have not been going. I explained how I came to the gym and spoke to somebody several months ago to cancel and he didn't care AND had an attitude. If you plan on moving in the near future this might not be the club that you want to join because they make it ridiculous to cancel read more

You get what you pay for. I've used this gym in the past for workouts and then cancelled my membership as I was working out somewhere else. My wife and I rejoined and opted for the black card. Initially I really enjoyed the amenities afforded with this level of membership. Unfortunately that did not last long because there's equipment that is out of service and apparently no one is in any hurry to repair. Last Thursday 1/10/19 the aqua massage bed was down and unavailable for use d/t some sort of software problem. Today Tuesday 1/15/19 I was told it was down basically for the same problem. The locker rooms have always been clean and the other members always have been courteous sharing equipment. The staff is nice but does not seem interested in achieving solutions for problems or at least explaining a solution to a problem. Example..."Hey sorry the aqua bed is currently down but we have it being repaired today so hopefully it should be back up soon"...in the end I feel you get what you pay for. A $10 or $20 membership per month certainly has its benefits on the pocket book but don't expect $100 service lol! I'm happy to report that the upkeep and maintenance is in full swing and the staff has been phenomenal! Updating to 4 stars. This has to be the worst gym that I have dealt with ever first off my Girlfriend about a year ago had a membership and somehow they charged her 10,000 on her account and it went through because she was on a joint account with her mother and nobody had a reason at all. Then fast forward to today I gave them a chance I thought maybe it was a one time error but no it wasn't. The area manager or finance department are unreasonable and you will pay more than they say your suppose to. I have been going to planet fitness for a year and a half. Been going to the Y for 10 years before that. The staff are pretty good. Todd does a great job in the AM. The place is decently clean. They are constantly cleaning. They could use some updated equipment such as a rowing machine, some actual spinning bikes, a BOSU ball, and some bands would be great. All the other Planet fitness I've been to have this equipment except this one. We don't need the free pizza or bagels, just spend that money on new equipment. read more

I'm new to the area and have been to plenty of Planet Fitness locations. This is the worst one I've ever been to. Employees at the counter were pretty rude and didn't acknowledge that I was standing there waiting for my fob to be scanned. They told me to scan it myself as if I were an idiot. Mediocre machines, using rags to wipe down your equipment, dimly lit locker room with no privacy in the shower area. Not to mention the safety hazard of the grips in the bottom of the shower that are makeshift at best. Someone could roll an ankle on those. Will not be visiting again. read more

This gym was a huge disappointment. I've been a Black Card member of PF for quite a few years. New to this area and wanted to check it out as it is the closest location to my new home. I won't be back! When I arrived (about 6:15AM), there were three staff members at the front desk. None of which could be bothered to turn around, look up from their phone or stop flirting long enough to acknowledge my existence. Their tanning program SUCKS! Very few beds in comparison to other PF's in the Tri-State. Most locations allow you to sign up for a time slot ahead of time, they do not give you the option here. Once I figured out the tanning situation (on my own), I made my way to a completely filthy locker room. One trash can, really? Probably why there was trash EVERYWHERE. Treadmills are severely outdated. Ipod hook ups? Not sure who even own's those anymore... After approaching at least eight different machines, attempting to find one which didn't have leftover sweat rags from the previous member; I found one. It didn't work. No paper towel holders, or sanitizer dispensers. Instead, they had upside down laundry hampers and bottles of spray, classy! After a brief workout (I was too disgusted by the cleanliness to stay longer), I went back up to attempt to tan. Didn't check for, or provide eye wear. No towel was provided. Shoot, they couldn't even turn on lights for me. Hallway was completely dark and light switches in tanning room didn't work. Machine was NASTY! Cracked all to pieces, I was afraid to even lay on it. Whoever the GM of this facility is, they are clearly dropping the ball, big time! Hire someone who cares and takes pride in their work- it's clear current management does not. Instead of playing on phones, possibly staff should pick up a scrub brush. Overall, completely gross experience and I will be cancelling membership immediately. read more

My Husband and I recently joined this gym and while its very convenient with the times open and the machines there- the staff isn't always the friendliest. When I was doing my tour with Sadie- she acted bored and didn't really go into any amount of detail. She was just acting like I was wasting her time-- Then when you walk in, they never greet you. Its not like a warm and fuzzy place. Its just very bland- which is probably why you only pay $10.00 - 19.99 per month. Next time I will do more research before just joining. read more

I will start off by saying that I am extremely unsatisfied with the customer service at this location. Everyone is unbelievably rude and stuck up. Multiple times I have had issues to which I called to get resolved and was addressed by people who would talk over me and not be of any assistance... EVEN THE MANAGER!! It's a gym not the Hilton!! They do need more trash cans and some helpful Staff!! Not everyone is going to clean their sweat off the machines that's just how some people are rude and nasty. Just get a paper towel and do it yourself. I always do. Also they need more staff that is willing to help you especially if you are new to working out like me. I'd like to go in sometime and have someone show me how to use the equipment but until someone can stay off their phone long enough I'll just try to learn on my own!! I have gone to various other gyms in this area over the past few years. This one is honestly my least favorite one. The staff just stands around all day and there is usually two to four on staff at anytime, I never see them do any actual work. Equipment and essentials like water fountains and hand dryers have been "temporarily out of service" for weeks or even months. They let weight slamming bodybuilder's in and do nothing about them damaging equipment and the bathrooms are not usually stocked or cleaned. The only reason it gets a single star is because it's open later and it's cheap. read more

I only gave it a second star because it's a good gym for someone who doesn't need any kind of assistance. As for me, who as a black card holder needed assistance, forget it. I was told so many times that "someone would call" to set up a consultation, or to talk to me about my customer issues, and never got a call back once. This has been going on over 7 months. You get what you pay for.... and that's not much. Save yourself the stress and go anywhere else! The sign-up and yearly "processing" fees are steep in comparison to the low monthly fees. You must show up in person to cancel which, in my case, was a huge issue. I signed up at PF and, unfortunately, could not find a nearby apartment after my lease was up some time later. I tried to make it to the gym to make it work but realized it was entirely inconvenient. I finally made it in to cancel. Unfortunately, that happened to be the month they were renewing my application. So I was charged approximately $30 for a membership that I cancelled 3 days later. When I called to inquire about a refund, I was screamed at by the front desk associate. I'm still confused about what triggered this episode... Regardless, she failed to give my message to the manager. The manager gave me the Centerville/Dayton supervisor's information. He basically told me I was out of luck. He refused to refund my "processing" fees claiming he could not because it goes to keep up the facility (this is not a reason)... The facility that I do not have access to. DO NOT sign a contract with this company. Find a good gym that actually cares about their reputation and does not use you as an easy source of revenue. I guess with low monthly fees Planet Fitness will only work hard to sweeze every dollar they can from their patrons not to keep them coming back. read more

This is sort of an odd update but I thought it was warranted given that most gyms suck. We decided that we just don't have the time to spend at the gym, at least not enough to justify spending the money every month. Typically trying to cancel a membership at a gym is a nightmare, expect certified letters to their corporate office, etc. They usually make it easy to join but hard to quit, we didn't know what to expect here since we had never canceled with Planet Fitness. Of course they asked us why we were canceling, I totally understand that. Once we had told them it was due to our schedule and that we would likely be back as some point, they had us sign the forms and we were done, easy! A lot of people knock Planet Fitness but they are a company who really "gets it", treat your customers right and they'll come back, have a nice, clean facility and people will be happy. The whole process for both of us took about 5 minutes, painless and easy! So, be sure to check them out and skip the rest of the area gyms. When our schedules do free up we'll sign back up with them without any hesitation. read more

I am writing a review regarding planet fitness Centerville, I joined in April and today I was charged $41.83 for annual fees or what ever it may be called, I have only been a member a month and charged these fees, I was not informed and I called Centerville gym, and someone a female said she was the manager and that these fees are charged 2 months after you join, I was never informed of this, I asked for corporate or owner she gave me the number to another gym and supposedly they said she Is not the manager, the airway store was very kind and stated they would try to help me, I am going to contact the Attorney General I want my money back and I am counseling my membership. read more
