If you're looking to shred muscle fast for your star turn in some Marvel Studios abomination, Planet Fitness will leave you a few personal trainers, private chefs and an astrologer for hire short of paydirt. However, if you're looking for machines out the wazoo that are reasonably maintained and available with no wait PF's location in Edison works fine for what amounts to a pittance each month. Look, no gym no matter how upscale is going to do anything unless you go and use it. Are there poseurs here? Ya. Are there chatty hausfraus who constantly annoy? Yes again. But who cares, I have more money in my couch cushions than six months of dues here. Sweat is sweat. In my mind do it as cheaply as possible and be gone. Planet Fitness is what it is. The only real positive I've found about this location is that it's open 24 hours, which is convenient. Unfortunately, every time I've come in and I've given it multiple chances, the gym has consistently been dirty. The machines also feel pretty cramped together, which makes the space harder to navigate and doesn't create the most comfortable workout environment. So I consider myself the go to review guy for all things planet because I love to work out,I know a good gym when I see one and I enjoy gym styles. So positives and negatives about this gym . Parking is tight because it's in a shopping center. Second it's in a shopping center and that always makes them smaller.the machines were awesome. Little close together for my taste but they don't have the space . Cardio Machines were updated which is a plus. Locker rooms were the only real turn off. Sooooo small and the shower area was pretty much in the bathroom area .like no separation at all .little weird. The staff was friendly so I'd go back. read more

If you're working on your Fitness, it's best to Plan it. That's why you come to Planit Fitness. When I thought I was moving to Edison, I came to try to all the gyms in the area. This is a big one, popular indeed, and after a brief chat they let me check it out free which I appreciated. I like how everything is pinky purple. They have some pretty good equipment, although it has nothing on the more fancy gyms for real lifters and people trying to stay in sexy really intense shape, like a lot of people in Jersey are. I think Planet Fitness should adapt a little bit for New Jersey because it's a little more rigorous for gymgoers, moreso than most other states. Even the YMCAs around here are a lot more hardcore. I'm a member of the Y so I worked out there the day before, which is good too, and like most Metuchen gyms, it's pretty good. At the Y, I got abused by a couple of other members but I like the facility. This facility is a pretty standard Planet Fitness but I have to downgrade my rating, because like many gyms, having asked for details, cancellation sounds weird and complicated and has rules that it doesn't need to have to make it hard to cancel without being present. Why can you not just pop on a website or hop on the phone and instantly cancel at any time? Simple. Because they want more of your money and by doing it this way less people will cancel and those people will not be able to easily cancel and they will be charging people that don't want to still be a member. There's no excuse in the world for running a business in that way. Except that they just want more money. So that's one thing and then the other thing is the lunk alarm. They saw my physique and cleverly glossed right over it when they were explaining it to me, which obviously is because I look like one of these so-called lunks - thanks for putting me in that box, much appreciated. I'm told they don't use it very often, if ever, but having a lunk alarm in a judgement-free zone is the same thing as having Adolf Hitler is the president of a peace-loving all welcoming country. Oh wait I went too far. But really. It's just not a good company based on these facts, although this is a nice location. I've been coming to this location for years. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a wide variety of machines and a stretching space. Location is pretty convenient. Can't complain for $10 a month. I used to have the black card membership, but I downgraded during the pandemic. For that they have massage chairs which are in a quiet area with a TV, tanning which I never used, and a hydro massage bed. read more

Honestly one of the worst gyms out there. Staff is unaccommodating. Archaic system for cancelling a membership designed to make it difficult. Go to literally any other gym in the area. The sales associates are not transparent at all about highlighting the hoops you have to jump through to cancel written in the fine print. read more

This gym exists only to collect monthly fees from people who are no longer going there. They lure you in with that low monthly cost, but make it as difficult as possible to cancel. You want to upgrade your membership? That's only 1-click away on our app. You want to downgrade your membership? That can't possibly be done online, you have to come to the original gym, no matter how far it is, and speak with someone about such an absurd request. The gym itself is no better than any other gym I've joined over the years, but they definitely are the greediest. I have been a member of Planet Fitness Edison Route 1 since it first opened. I found it to be the perfect gym for me until this year. Sadly I developed throat cancer and had to have surgery followed by radiation 36 radiation treatments. I requested that my account be frozen during my time of trial and treatment. Sadly they did not heed my request and even worse they went back and billed the card I used with my original membership decades ago without my permission. To add insult to injury after we protested that charge they went back to my card and overcharged it for which we had to protest once again. I was not looking for sympathy or even empathy, I just thought that after decades of loyalty to them I could get a bit of consideration, I know that one member's disappointment won't make a difference in the corporate structure but just had to express my disappointment with the organization, Very Disappointed! read more

I've been a member of Planet Fitness for a few months now and I am so happy I joined this gym. When I joined, the person who helped me explained everything very clearly and wrote it down for me on paper - a great sign because there is often confusion surrounding gym memberships. I joined when they had the $1 fee to join and I have the basic membership plan for $10 a month, $40 annual fee. Since going, I always have a positive experience. The employees are always very friendly and some even remember my name. Even when it's very busy, there are usually enough machines. People are pretty considerate, and the gym has been very clean whenever I go. The bathrooms also have the best lighting, fyi! While there are some things I'm not crazy about like the "lunk alarm" - I think it's a little silly because it is a judgement free zone - or the tootsie rolls or free pizza - why are y'all trying to ruin my workout?! - these things haven't affected my experience. I have never seen the lunk alarm go off and now I just pass by the tempting snacks. If anything they have strengthened my willpower! I know some people have had negative experiences at gyms, including myself, but I'm glad I found a gym I feel comfortable at - it has made me feel more motivated. read more

I joined this gym on January 1st. It's affordable-- actually a great deal. $10 a month, but with the annual fee and all it came out to about $12. In any case, I figured that if I averaged about 2 to 3 times a month, it would be worth it. I figured that I would use it more in the winter time, and then when it got nice out I could exercise outside again. Since it turned out to be a long winter, I've used it more than I thought I would. And in the meantime, I've learned a few exercise machines that I think are good. So I plan to keep coming through the spring and summer after all. One unexpected benefit here is that they have free personal training. It's not advertised like their $10 fee, but I've overall had a good experience with that. Another thing, that I discovered right away, is that they have pizza night here once a month. It just so happened that January 1st was a Monday, so imagine my surprise when I walked into the gym after signing up online to find that they were serving pizza. I am still not sure how I feel about this. I can say that I don't think I've ever felt so many conflicting emotions while eating a slice of pizza. read more

I happen to like this place. It serves it's purpose for folks like me who just want to get some cardio and basic weights in. I have the Black Card membership, which is roughly 22 bucks a month and includes a few extra perks like tanning, full body transformation machine (yeah) and my personal favorite, the hydromassage bed. Also with the Black Card membership you can visit other locations which is useful if you work close to another one or when you travel. I don't have a problem finding machines since I tend to go at night time. Sunday's are also a great time to come in because they close early and the place is virtually empty. A few years ago I joined this location so when I went to rejoin that came up in their system. The attendant simply canceled it with no hassle. Not sure why there are so many horror stories, I've had nothing but pleasant experiences. If you don't want all the extra bells and whistles there is a 10 dollar a month membership which gives you access to just this location and also a 15 dollar a month no commitment membership if you don't want to sign a year contract. read more

I use to go to this gym back in the day when it first opened and back then it was way better, but now forget it I go Mon-Thurs and 4am and I literally can't stand this gym the ONLY reason I go here is because it is literally 5 minutes from where I live if it weren't for it being super close I definitely would not go there they say they close from 2-3 to clean yea ok the fact that upon entering the gym it smells so bad it's dirty, people gave no consideration, dirty paper towels all over the floor, weights never re racked because people are so lazy to put them back. ‍ Not sure why they have someone up front because they literally don't do anything but be on there phones if not they just disappear. Forget about going in the afternoon or after 4 it's worse. I literally can't wait until my membership expires so I can go back to RETRO FITNESS ON PARK AVE. This is exactly what I need in a gym. I'm a month-to-month kind of guy right now. You cannot beat this price. $10 a month, with no contract, and right now they're waiving the sign-up fee. And they bill you on the 10th, so if you sign up just after that date, your first month is free. So I can work out for the next two months for $11. It's not the ritz, but what do you really expect for that price. The bathrooms ain't so hot. There aren't enough free weights. But besides that, everything is pretty clean, the music is good, tvs work, open 24 hours Mon-Fri. Also, because they don't have the best weight equipment, it keeps the roided-out muscle heads away. Gets a solid 3 stars from me! It's clean, staff I have talked to is extremely friendly and helpful. Hours are also convenient too. I've heard a lot of smack about this place. Is it LA Fitness, Retro, or WoW? No. But I will say it's a place to start out, without the long term commitment at a very fair price to get in shape. My only gripe is no power racks! I understand they are a no lunk zone, but I don't think a power rack promotes it. But again, it's an entry level place, and eventually if you are truly into your fitness and want advance, the above stated places is where you should transition to. I wasted my Time driving through Route 1 Traffic and my car Gas going there for nothing (I need to watch TV to exercise as it's a Boring thing to do). I switched to this gym from LA fitness and I have to say that it's pretty good. There are always plenty of machines, and the fact that it is open 24 hours a day 4 days a week is also very helpful if you have a busy schedule but still like to work out. The trainers are also very helpful, and most of all, they do not pounce on you as soon as you walk in. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well, which is nice. Also, you do not have to worry about complete morons trying to work out in heavy jeans and stinking up the entire place. Occasionally you do get the one rude person who talks on their cell phone while exercising (I honestly don't know how one can do this) but other than that, I have no complaints. One thing I should mention is that this gym does not have a pool/spa area, but that's ok with me. I really don't like using those anyway but, some people might disagree. The clientele here is are really chill and helpful. They will help you out and they are basically just friendly, normal people. read more

Okay I've been coming to this gym since I was 20 (24 now) I've never really had any issues it's a very basic gym and for the most part the staff is nice. Issue number one is the hours. Reason I joined is because the gyms thing was 24 hours. Now weekends closed at 7. Biggest issue as of late is this ONE staff member I have to bite my tongue with every single time I come in. Short Hispanic woman who wears glasses around 40 years old... I didn't ask her name, with a very smug nasty attitude. Never went to put a review in until today (around 5 pm) I went to get a massage for 5 minutes. One bottle of water with me as always. After my massage i take that ONE FULL bottle with me to get my cardio in. This woman follows me and yells at me to clean up the massage room. There were 4 bottles in the room NONE OF WHICH WERE MINE. Makes a scene while I'm on the elliptical and tells me to clean this room. First of all those were not mine. I take my one bottle I always have with me around the gym for When I work out. Then she threatens me that If I don't clean the 4 bottles which were not mine... I'd be banned from the massage room. First issue I've really had with the staff. Otherwise friendly. Do's & Don'ts!!! How companies lose customers.. A'JeeKaurSingh and Parwinder Singh Kang stopped in 4:00 AM. Online it's advertised as hiring. Entering we had the pleasure of speaking to a remarkable gentlemen name "Steven". Excellent customer service. As I inquired about there openings for "Hire" Steven confirmed there was an overnight position opening due to an employee leaving. On the other hand we witness the Manager name "Marie".that made a awful impression for business, customers, and so forth. The manager attitude and demeanor made us feel why bother signing up for membership. The manager reprimanded Steven in front of newly customers and members in reference to an acquaintance that finished his workout and went behind the work station. As I observed this is a No..No..Never as a manager should you conduct yourself with employees in this manner. What Marie should have done instead of yelling at the worker, was quietly pulled him to the side and spoke with him. Not in front of customers or members who was present. Even the member was shocked. I waited for her to cool down. At 4:30 AM I went to speak with Marie. I don't know who the hell hired her as a manager but her attitude reflected the Morgue. Not vibrant or professional. Marie the manager  told me Planet Fitness was not hiring for any upcoming nor any open positions was available. Sadly, to say you never know who you might encounter. As a manager you reflect the business. Every customer is the reason you stay in business. Without customers your business becomes like the attitude of Marie the" Morgue" DEAD!!! I wouldn't join this gym or ever work under Marie. This is why you lost a customer and no I wouldn't recommend it. However the only positive to this gym is that its open 24/7..which is a plus in my eyes. read more

This gym prides itself on being diverse and accepting of everyone. You'll see people aged 18 to 65, from 100 lbs to 250 lbs, and from buff to skinny. Good for: the average person trying to be healthy Not good for: people who want amenities and perks It's important to realize the difference between the "workout" gyms and the "fancy" gyms. I'd consider Planet Fitness to be a "workout" gym because it gives you quality cardio machines and weight machines, but nothing else. $10/month Other gyms (not PF) do give you a host of other amenities: spinning classes, kickboxing classes, free child care, basketball courts, swimming pools, and much more. If you want any of these, you'll need to find another gym. Those typically run around $20/month. read more

Yea this gym is cheap as hell... 10 bucks a month. w/e might as well join it if its convenient for you right? There are no free weight benches. There are a good amount of ugly and over weight ppl walking on the tredmils and or the bikes. It is PACKED on peak hours and they will give you a sheet telling you what these hours are. There are no amenities such as pool. sauna. or any of that stuff you pay an actually gym for. just straight up work out machines and tread mills with some dumbbells. and a bathroom with a shower in it. Bring your own lock. Oh but don't miss the fist Wednesday of the month when you can stuff your face full of pizza on them. It practically pays for the membership. I really like planet fitness. The layout is perfect for me, as I usually go to gyms for cardio purposes and a tiny bit of weight training. The staff is friendly and helpful, and you can't beat the price. You get what you pay for! I have the basic 10 dollar a month membership and it's perfect for me. And I've seen people complain that you can't wear sweatbands while working out, but everyone in my location wears sweatbands and it's not an issue. Love the gym , first time back and have to say the web site and commercial makes it seem different. I saw no one clean any equipment while I was there for and hour . Not one customer cleaned a machine besides me ! At least 10 people didn't have a mask over their mouth or noise ! No staff members walked around . I used to come to this gym two or three times a week, like some other customers said it is a basic gym no problem there. For personal reasons I move and couldn't use it any longer. So I called and try to cancel they refused. A hole year latter I come by and cancel in person. I was actually kidding when I said that I understood I couldn't get a refund but wanted a souvenir, a tshirt or something. To my surprise, all of them looked at me an said, nop we can't. They are misleading individuals in order to open accounts then claiming no refunds and buy outs of 50+ dollars if you aren't please with the service and want to cancel. I am finding out how to cancel my membership and receive a refund for the last 2 months. I am disgusted with how I have been treated. I addressed it with assistant manager and got no where I tried to get in touch with club manager and they gave me the card with store number on it not the GMS even after asking if thats how I directly reach her. I owe a lot to this place. About 2 years ago, I wasn't in the shape I wanted to be in. At the time, I was a member but wasn't going consistently. At some point, I decided to. In the beginning, I was mostly bringing my own Insanity workout and doing it at any available space I could find (FYI - due to lack of space even in the stretching area, it's not the best gym to do this in but I made it work). After a couple of months, I began weight training and doing cardio on the treadmill. Eventually I got back to my fighting weight. I recently ended my membership due to the dumbbells not being heavy enough. This is okay for me except on my chest days. I also got to the point where I wanted to move past the smith machine for a dedicated squat rack and deadlift area so I could use a free weight barbell. However, this is PF's business model and they cater to everyday people wanting to be healthy. Well, this place does that. Not long after, I've been using guest passes at other nearby gyms. I have to say that even though the hardware now matches my needs, I do miss the general culture of PF. Perhaps I took it for granted when I was going there. You didn't have people dropping weights constantly and grunting after every rep at Planet Fitness. I'm not even talking about a release of air accompanied by sound on the last few reps of a difficult set. That, I understand. I mean people screaming on every rep, dropping the dumbbells and then high fiving their gym rat buddies. The whole lunkhead fragility is nonsense. Nobody would be saying anything about guys who bring in gallon jugs and wearing spaghetti strap tank tops if they weren't being needlessly distracting. Of course I can't say sh** to their face at these other places because the dudes who generally do all that nonsense are built like Ser Gregor Clegane from Game of Thrones. I have no desire to meet the same fate as Oberyn Martell. But I digress. That happens all the time in the places I've been to with the exception of Retro Fitness. The clientele there is also considerate. The dumbbells at PF are also almost always put back in order. Some stray every once in a while but if you've seen the horrors at another nearby gym, believe me, this is nothing to complain about. Sure, the place gets packed but with the membership fee being so low, that's to be expected. The cardio machines generally don't get filled to capacity though which is good. The only thing is you need a bank account for the monthly withdrawal. And of course there are annual fees of like $30 and probably some other very low one time costs but even those are below the other gyms. So if you're looking to get into shape, this is a great place and you can't beat the price. I got in shape coming here for sure. It was just time for me to move on to dedicated squat racks, deadlift areas, free weight barbells and dumbbells that go to 100 lbs. read more
