This place is always so dirty yet the workers never bother to try and clean it even when they walk right by it. I got rid of my membership from planet fitness in general but if you had to go to one the branford pf is a much better option. For example I mentioned how gross the locker room was to the front desk and they gave me an attitude for it and never went to check it out. This is a truly horrible place. I couldn't use it during Covid and just had to pay about $90 in all to get out of my contract that was supposedly only $10 per month. The guy at the desk was rude, uncaring and simply pointed to the small print of which there was a great deal. Eventually I told them charge whatever they had to to get me out of this and it turned out to be about $90 in all (about $40 for a "rolled over" annual fee I didn't want and $50 to buy me out of that rolled over annual fee). I hadn't been able to use it for a year and he could not have cared less and made no effort to address the situation. The place was dirty before Covid and the bathrooms were particularly bad (never used it post-covid). By far the worst gym membership I have ever had. read more

This gym is filthy and the manager, Christine K. Is rude and works with 'bait and switch' tactics to mislead you regarding the fees. I joined in January 2017, and was old then there was not a membership fee, but a $1.00 special. Only 2 months later, a large 'fee' was withdrawn from my account without my knowledge. When I questioned this, I was avoided for a week by the manager, Christine'! Finally, I told the young man at the desk, that if I did not hear from her that day, I would have to take this further. She called me at 8:00PM, that night! At that time, I requested a refund, and she rudely said, 'Well, that's not going to happen'. At this time, I am still requesting my full refund and a cancellation of my membership. I have been a member of many different workout facilities in a number of states and cities throughout the years. This place is The Worst I have ever attended! Deplorable! I would give this place a 0 if I could. I tried to cancel this package due to moving away. I called the establishment and the lady told me she would cancel right away. I received a $45 charge on my card. So I called again and they told me that I had to either come in person or cancel via certified mail. I looked at my account again today and was charged another $22. I called and they told me that my account was never canceled. I stated that I have proof they received and signed my certified mail on June 5th. The guy canceled my package (so he said) but could not refund my money although I sent the certified mail prior to the charge. I will never use this company again. I first joined the Planet Fitness in Branford and enjoyed my the use of that gym tremendously. When I moved to Guilford, it seemed logical to switch my membership closer to home. Very quickly I noticed that the volume control on EVERY single elliptical was stuck at the maximum volume. I spoke to the manager Christine a number of times. She assured me this would be addressed in a timely fashion. Months have gone by, I have spoken to her multiple times since then. Every time she has an excuse for why it has not been addressed. Still, the volume adjustments are all broken. I refuse to damage my hearing with volume controls permanently on the maximum setting! I am going back to Branford! read more

I've been a member for a couple of years. this place is dirty, often has a gross smell and the Mens bathroom is nasty. they need to deep clean this facility and fix their septic system or whatever is causing the odor. the same dirt has been in the corners and the same dead bugs in the light fixtures for a long time. the employees do nothing except one or 2 who push the cart around and refill the fake disinfectant spray that is mostly water. Walked in to a gentleman on his phone texting. Took about 5 mins for him to look up and acknowledge my presence. Keep in mind I have never been here and was looking to sign up . Eventually he said hi and brushed me off to another rep who was busy assisting another member. So he could continue his texting. Very rude. Paid my 22 dollars to work out as a guest. Plenty of equipment and decent gym etiquette but the place is filthy. Dirty machines dirt floors. Will not return. Find another gym. read more

I purchased a membership for my wife in December of 2014 as a gift. We tried to pay in full for the year however the "company policy" required a reoccurring payment. We moved from Madison to Southern CA in late May 2015. We informed Planet Fitness in Guilford of the move and asked to cancel the membership. The monthly charges continued for June, July, August. We emailed Planet Fitness and called the corporate office and were assured the membership would be cancelled. Continued to be billed September, October, November. Now we are getting harassing texts and "past due" notices sent to our California address. This gym is impossible to do business with and each person we deal with on the phone will invoke "corporate policy" and one sided rules. Basically, good luck canceling and the "customer is never right". Aside from that...the gym itself was just ok. Dated equipment, not very clean and the staff (as noted) not very customer friendly. read more

things stay broke a long time - soap dispensers, hot water, some machines; TV channels don't always correspond to channel programmed at machine; locker room is dirty; the cleaning appears to be a quick job cause floors and showers and bath always have the same dirt grime; lockers smell and wonder if they've ever been cleaned; Hear Rate on machines work 1 out of 10 times; Parking is a little tight and at prime time you are lucky to get the last spot on the end near the highway. But $100 a year, its worth it and that's what you re paying for and that's why no one complains to push things to be better/clean and less broken. read more

I trained at this facility for five years out of pure convenience and habit. I finally became so frustrated with the inattentive staff that I quit. The place is dirty, including the locker room, shower facilities, toilets, and the workout areas. Treadmills are constantly out of order. Staff sits I. The room behind the front desk with the shades drawn, texting or talking on the phone. I've waited for several minutes at the front desk for someone to assist me. I finally had to go behind the desk to get the attendant's attention. It amazes me how I and others have accepted this low-quality facility for years. So, we joined almost 10 years ago when the Branford gym was the only one in this local chain, and watched as it expanded into Guilford, East Haven, and North Haven. Most of the machines work most of the time, the staff by and large is friendly, and it's clean enough for the price. We watched as the hours were cut back sharply from what they'd been when we joined. We watched as the "personal training studios" moved into the clubs, sucked up huge amounts of floor space, and benefited virtually none of the members. We even watched as many of the heavier free weights/bars were removed and bans were placed on certain weight-training exercises like t-Bar rows. However... at my local PF club today, I learned that members will no longer be permitted to bench press. No more bench press?!? Not only has the bar been removed, but the bench and, I'm informed, most of the other free weight benches as well, are leaving. I have to assume that this means, no more free weights. I'm told this is part of a move by the national chain towards a "general fitness" approach, whatever that means. Why anyone would think that free weights can't be part of a personal fitness program is beyond me. Not everyone who lifts weights is a steroid-crazed monster, despite PF's efforts to stereotype these folks as such. (Speaking of "judgment-free" ... oh wait). I was finally told that I should buy a free weight bench and just use it at home. At that point, you know the discussion is over. As is my relationship with this club. read more

I love planet fitness in guilford! They have a huge selection of equipment and the staff is super friendly. I have found that the regulars there are supportive and friendly too. It's usually not that packed , so you hardly ever have to wait for any given machine. The locker rooms are clean and there's plenty of parking. I give it 5 stars. For those previous posts that say the manager was rude.... everybody has a bad day! She has gone above and beyond for me on a number of occasions. After witnessing the way that she gets spoken to by some, I'm surprised she's still as nice as she is!! read more

I caution people, especially women, about joining this club. In my experience the facility was often times filthy, the equipment in disrepair for months at a time, the TV system broken for months at a time as well and the staff was rude and intrusive. I experienced harassment at this club. A male staff member named Lenny frequently found reasons to interrupt my workouts. As time went on his interruptions became less friendly and more demanding. When I complained to the manager, Christina, she suggested that I avoid patronizing the club during his working hours. The male staff also has a habit of entering the women's locker room during business hours. Obviously the ownership and management of this club is unconcerned about the fact that they are under federal mandate to provide their customers with a safe, harassment-free work out environment. read more

After having a less than positive experience at another Planet Fitness I was hesitant to join this gym. However I am so glad I did! The gym is always clean and since my membership began they have updated their equipment several times. The facility is always clean and staff is promptly responsive when there's an issue. Speaking of the staff--they're the best part! They are kind and friendly and have made an effort to get to know me. I used to hate this gym and would drive 20 minutes to Branford instead but after a few years, I got tired of the commute and opted for the 5 min drive to Guilford instead. Very small and not a huge amount of arc trainers (the cardio machine I prefer). However, I just learned to avoid the evening rush hour (5-7) and now I never have a problem getting a machine. Way too uncomfortable to do weights there because it's up in front and dominated by a lot of dudes. Instead I go upstairs to the 30 minute workout section where there are mats and medicine balls. I do free weights in the privacy of my own home. Tanning sucks, though the last time I checked was over a year ago. They only have lay down beds which is gross at a gym. Light bulbs are rarely changed and you get a really fake looking tan. Also half the time I'd get undressed only for the tanning bed never to turn on...apparently it's really hard to operate those beds. Weekend hours suck, 7am-7pm. But as everyone is saying, you can't beat the price, it's close to home and once you figure out your schedule/how to maneuver around there, it's a pretty decent place. Note to staff: please dust the equipment and ceilings some times. Literally piles of dust bunnies are all around. Can't help but think I'm breathing that in. read more

My son has been going here for about a year now with me. He's 14 years old now 15 in a coupe of weeks, everyday in the summer he went and worked out for the summer workout challenge. He did this by himself even though not 15, they were kind enough to let him in. Except today, he walks in there as he normally does and his 15 year old friend joined him for the first time. The lady there would not let him work out with his friend who had never worked out before, and the lady in a rude and disgusting way did not let my son work out and left him there stranded while i finished up at work. My son was devastated and his friend was left there not knowing a clue on how to work out. read more

I switched over to this gym from the local Y a few years ago because I found it to be much cleaner, but it is also a Lot Less $$$ ! I have been happy here and have had a great experience. I feel the staff does a very good job keeping everything clean and in working order. Staff is friendly and helpful, and clients are very nice as well - it's a low-key, do-your-own-thing environment, all ranges of ages and athletes - so very comfortable. Plus I have access to other PF locations when I am visiting folks/kids. Can't beat it as far as I am concerned. read more

Last week the gym was closed for a couple of days due to them setting up new equipment. Today I went to do my workout there and I can honestly say that, for the most part, it was well worth their effort. The Precor cardio machines I tried- the treadmill and the exercise bike- both feel much sturdier than their Cybex counterparts. The weight machines are all new. So are even the benches- the padding is really firm and supportive. The free weights are clearly marked and are very sturdy in their feel. None of the old Cybex equipment remains- well, except in the circuit training area. After using the pulldown and the leg press today, I don't miss the Cybex stuff. Still, two issues...the locker room remains cramped, and the True stretch tower is no more. It was banished courtesy of Planet Fitness' parent company, according to management. Christina did a good job explaining the changes to me. All told, I welcome these upgrades. read more

I actually love this gym I joined since I moved to the shoreline and I can't say anything bad about the place the staff is extremely friendly but what stuck out for me is the patrons and staff I forgot my expensive Fitbit in the girls bathroom remembered later I lost it I called praying someone found it and they did and turned it in! I mean my old area no one would ever do that and the employee told me that happens all the time the staff and patrons are great at handing in lost items it makes me feel better about using this gym I would really recommend it! read more

Also, have a common back condition, and she didn't know what it was, nor how to advise me about equipment usage. I have no commitment and I could have cancelled my membership months ago, but didn't.
