Not a huge fan of planet fitness in general but this is a nice location. It's never too crowded and the machines are always well cleaned. It's 24 hours most days of the week except for the weekend. They don't have free bars for doing deadlifts. They do have three stairmaster machines and two floors so it's good enough for me. The staff is always friendly. Planet Fitness requires access to your bank account, from which they will draw your monthly fee. They also want to keep your credit card on file. Many gyms have this policy, but you should understand that their goal is retention at all costs. Here's what this means for you as a prospective member. By the terms of the contract for the Hoboken location, resigning your membership must be done in person or in writing. "Retention at all costs" means acting like notices were somehow never received. So while it would be difficult for you to accuse them of breach of contract, realize that Planet Fitness is essentially in the business of pretending to be stupid. The following has been my own experience: If you attempt quit in person, you will be asked to sign a touch-pad, and you will be promised email confirmation. Understand that until you receive this email, you have not actually quit, and Planet Fitness will continue to help themselves to your accounts. Having signed the touch-pad, when you do not receive confirmation, you will be given excuses like their database requires time before changes take effect. Actually, they are simply hoping that you will go away, move on with your life, and forget that they never followed through. Then they will continue to help themselves to your money. If you attempt to quit in writing, they will not acknowledge receipt, or they will claim that your notice was directed to the wrong quarter. It has also been my experience that, having created this confusion, Planet Fitness attempts out-of-bounds withdrawals around times of year (holidays) when you are likely to be too busy to attempt (again) to address their quote-mistake-unquote. I have tried to resolve my own resignation with them several times, over several months, and every time I thought it was handled, they have popped back up with another attempted withdrawal. At this point, I justifiably consider their conduct to be deliberate. Nobody is that stupid unless they are trying to be. So if you decide to join this gym, you should maybe go overboard when you wish to resign: record the conversation, collect everybody's names, and bring a notary public. Then go home, put blocks on your bank account, cancel your credit card, and change your name. You wanted a workout, right? ;) read more

Today during my workout I had to use the restroom, when I asked at the front desk because the restroom door had a keypad which was new to me. I was told it was a handicap restroom there was no sign nor was I allowed to use the bathroom. My question is how did your employee know that I was not handicap because I do not look disabled does not mean I don't havre a disability which I do not have to disclose . Please advise your employee to allow anyone asking to use the bathroom to allow them it won't hurt. Thank you for addressing. read more

Planet fitness is what it is: bargain gym, but for $25 a month gets you access to any of them in your area...so it works for me. Also- if you're the type who doesn't need to be motivated to work out or need gym classes to get you going, you get more than enough for what you pay for. Hoboken gym is two floors and tends to be on the smaller end...so basically figuring out a max capacity set up in a limited urban setting...kind of like a cramped NYC apartment if you will. However, given that it's open 24 hours during the week.....and when it closes at 7pm on Sunday, it reopens at midnight..this advertantly helps with the crowd control. I've only ever been late night or early morning and can usually get a workout in on the machines I need. As with all planet fitnesses, wish there were some more free weights and benches....but it is what it is. Have never had a problem with staff at this location. I have belonged to this gym for many years and have given it five stars in the past, because while basic, it was clean and functional and you couldn't beat the price. Sadly, the renovation has made it much worse. There are now fewer machines crammed into a smaller area. Treadmills (not as many as before) now face away from the windows, and the whole layout that makes no sense. The floor space has been given over to massage chairs--so, not much of a gym anymore. Sadly, I will be cancelling my membership. I gave it an extra star only because the front desk people are nice. read more

Update: I was minding my own business in the massage chair i I the SEPARATE ROOM maskless, ready to put it back on if someone happened to enter the room with me. I was politely approached by one of the staff that told me to put my mask back on. I could understand if I was on the gym floor with everyone else but I was literally alone in a sectioned off room. As I looked out at others working out and walking past the room, 75%of the people barely had their faces covered and were wearing the "chin diaper". How is that supposed to make someone feel being singled out, when I'm not anywhere near anyone else while the majority of the gym is being more contagious than myself. I get that there's a mandate and I obliged the entire hour run on the elliptical without complaining or anything but singled out when in a private room by myself. There was even a girl doing yoga by the front door facing the stairs not properly wearing a mask improperly and breathing all over everyone walking in, but that's ok I guess? If you're gonna enforce it, be fair to everyone. Instead of 4 people standing behind the counter not socially distancing in the slightest, have one or two do some laps around to tell people to cover up, especially upstairs where practically nobody is wearing a mask. Kinda expecting a knock on the bathroom stall door as I do my business checking to see if I have a mask on, because that's literally one step above what happened. read more

For $10/month, what's not to love? It's clean, plenty of machines and the staff is pretty helpful on the whole. Love the fact that there's no hard sell and they just let you do your thing in peace. The encouraging messages all around are a nice touch! 5 stars for the employees ONLY. I have a love/hate planet fitness relationship. I've cancelled my membership in the past, due to less than stellar customer service. But, I started back at this Hoboken location, a few months back. And the guy manning the desk at 4am (mon-fri) is great! My apologies for not knowing his name (I'm not exactly a people person) but he's not overly ecstatic or fake at 4am. I personally appreciate that. He's not rude tho either. Another appreciative point. General friendliness and keep it moving. Again, it's 4am. I don't expect much. He always says "have a good workout". Ok, there are no mirrors by the weights. None. By anything. Major design flaw. MAJOR. The mirrors are at the back, useless to everyone. They need to reverse the whole thing. Put the weights by the interior wall and move the treadmills by the window. Do it. Ya see, it can be very important to look in a mirror to check your form for a host of exercises. The front desk manager is always nice, the facilities are always clean, can't beat the price ($20 or less, a steal for Hoboken), doesn't get too crowded, and there are many machines to choose from! I'm dropping a star for Planet Fitness for the new payment policy. I used to be direct billed on a credit card, but was called in to the gym to update my billing. It turns out they changed their policy to direct withdrawal from checking accounts only, which I will not do. Couldn't even use cash. I wound up cancelling my membership. Of course, payment policy alone may not change someone's mind about membership, but I'm just not comfortable with it and made a choice that suits me. I think Planet Fitness Hoboken is a decent gym and you can't beat the price, however, I don't like the new payment policy. If they start to offer options, I will certainly consider rejoining the club. read more

Sort of annoying why anyone would give this less than 3 stars, but I guess that's the Hoboken crowd these days. It doesn't have yoga classes and hot towels and a sauna and a spa and a smoothie bar and a daycare with stroller parking so -- 2 stars. Lol. $10 per month. No sign up fee, no commitments. Ten dollars per month. If you work out 4 days a week, that's 62 cents per workout. But I guess Crunch has a gluten-free dairy-free vegan fair trade organic smoothie juice bar which totally justifies the $150/month membership. Planet Fitness isn't a weight-lifters gym or Karen's yoga/Pilates class. It's a glorified exercise room with everything I need (M/30's) to stay in killer shape and maintain muscle mass. Staff is friendly, equipment is clean and maintained, it does the job and it's $10/month. And, there aren't distractions like Insta-ho's and meatheads lounging around taking mirror selfies. They're at Crunch. People come to Planet Fitness to, you know, work out. read more

Planet Fitness is pretty consistent on quality and equipment in all of its locations - and the new addition in Hoboken is absolutely no different. Honestly, I was thrilled to learn that PF was coming to town; I'm a non-resident (frequent visitor) and I've been shelling out $73 a month to enjoy fitnessness at NYSC Uptown when I am here. I am well aware of the perks of having a black card, so I knew that as soon as PF opened I knew I would be cancelling that in favor of the much cheaper $20/month option. I signed up back in CT and worked out here today - absolutely no issue. No "location upcharge" --- errr NYSC I'm looking at you. Great location, nice views from most of the equipment, and lots of light - very important on those summer days you want to work out but have no desire to drag yourself into a basement gym with very little view into the outside world. They manage to cram a decent amount of cardio equipment, machines, and free weights into a two-floor span. I think the only huge con of this place is that it is busy. Like, busy busy. Apparently I was not the only one lured in by the low monthly membership fees - when I work out at 2pm on a weekday I am used to a fairly empty gym, and PF was probably running at 35% capacity. I didn't have to wait for anything, but I have walked by around 6 or 7pm on a weekday and it was quite a tight squeeze. Pros: Black card - all access. Half price drinks. Pizza Mondays, Bagel Tuesdays (once a month.) Cheapy cheapy monthly membership fee. New equipment. Light. Nice views. Nice locker rooms. Lots of media / TVs. After a year of endless running and peloton-ing, I needed a way to transition back into weightlifting that isn't going to break the bank. While PF doesn't have some important pieces of equipment (I still don't understand why they can't have a squat rack), there is still plenty of equipment that will get the job done for now. The gym is very clean and with the few visits I've had, everyone has been very good about masking up and distancing. They were offering memberships with no commitment, so I signed up for now as a cheaper option. When I'm ready for something more, I'll splurge for another gym, but this is still a good option for cheap memberships or people just getting back into a workout routine. read more

At anytime of the day it can SEEM crowded but, it isn't a problem HERE. Everyone is here to workout in&out. It is a bit small, there are many ways to get a great workout in. I used to frequent the Bayonne location and the equipment here seems to be newer or of better quality. Planet Fitness is not for everyone, but for someone like me who just needs cardio equipment and light lifting machines/weights. It definitely caters to a less intense crowd and that is why I like it. They run various promotions during the year. I signed up for $100 a year; anything more I probably would not have joined. You have the option of upgrading your membership to obtain access to tanning booths, massage chairs, and some select machines. Amenities are otherwise sparse. There is a locker room for each gender with bathrooms, showers, and lockers. You do need to provide your own lock. That's it, but then again that is all you need. Planet Fitness is a simple gym. If that is all you are looking for then give it a shot. read more

So today was my first day at PF in Hoboken, NJ and I will review 2 things: the gym itself and the customer service. The gym was great. Size was good, plenty of machines, no wait, and mind you it was busy and pretty clean. The only thing I don't like is it doesn't have any stairmasters or actual classes, but for the price, can't really complain. Another great thing was there is wifi which, for me, is awesome. Now, to the customer service. Wow! I had read some reviews about the people who work there...now remember this was my first time attending. When I walked in I told them I had signed up online and this was my first time in. He looked at me, with the most bothered look and said "Your phone number?" That's it. Didnt ask me for an id or anything. Then said my name and told me to look into the camera and took my picture and handed me my black card and went back to doing what he was doing. I was advised in the email I received when I signed up on line what to expect when I arrived for my first *******We're sending you this email because we're excited to tell you what your first visit will be like. Shortly after you take that first glorious step through the doors of your home club, you'll get: *A membership key tag *A free Planet Fitness t-shirt *A quick tour of the facility (hint: you're gonna love it!) *The warmest welcome ever!******* One out of four is HORRIBLE. I had to ask about my free shirt to be told "we are out of shirts...ask for one either Tuesday or Wednesday". Terrible customer service. We don't go there for free. Pros: $10, have most of what you need (very poor stretching area) and convenient (though their weekend hours NEED to be better). Cons: Very poor management, they overcharged me and miss-linked me to some other guys account (for which they were also charging me for). In trying to resolve this the manager, Jesse, did not return my calls for several weeks. When bringing this up to his staff they informed me that he was not good at returning calls and I should come in in person between 9-5 when he is there. Come on...I work a 9-5, I'm not taking off to resolve a billing issue. Very unprofessional and his district manager was also very unprofessional and treated the situation as if it was my fault before eventually apologizing. Not a good way to retain customers. Decent gym, has all the things a gym needs, except a coat rack in the front for the winter when it is freezing (the "locker room" isn't the best place to leave your jacket as it can get stolen, and you have to bring your own lock). Plenty of space, machines or weights are never overcrowded, and generally a clean place. Although of course with this caliber gym you always get a few randoms that don't clean the gear and leave it all gross, so TIP: clean before and after! Cheaper than most gyms, cut out the fluff. I would not shower here personally, as it isn't too clean and there's no towels or soap so you have to bring a bunch of junk. Upstairs seems to be more for the 'gym junkies' but there's plenty of space for all types of gym people to coexist here, and there's no pressure or awkwardness to be honest, which is always nice. No thank you. With this gym you get exactly what you pay for. Crap. The gym is often over crowded and filled with bros. No space to stretch or equipment such as kettle balls or medicine balls. 2 yoga mats in a small corner is the extent of what they offer... I remained a member for a year thinking to myself "eh whats $10 a month". I decided to leave planet fitness at the end of my contract. I went to the establishment to cancel my membership, they rushed me to sign and hurried me out the door. When I signed the cancelation form I made sure to ask if this was the last payment they'd be processing towards my card. I was told no.... LIE! They charged me again this month. When I called to figure of whats going on the assistant manager was rude and unapologetic. I told her I was hanging up to write a horrible review... and here it is. Your staff is incompetent! I have mixed feelings about this place. At first I was very content because I had switched over from the location in Harlem. It was obviously a better neighborhood to go to. It was still $10 a month, which everyone here agrees is a deal. This location was very clean and the staff was alright. I was first disappointed when I learned this gym wasn't 24 hours on the weekends. Um what? With the majority of the country working during the day Monday-Friday with weekends off... why would you have limited hours on the weekends when people arent at work and are spending 7am-7pm in bed and/or with friends and lovers... THEN hitting the gym when the day is over. Or whatever it may be, people work out on the weekends and would like to miss out on the rush hours. Nonetheless, I still loved being a PF member. I ended up leaving NJ for military purposes, obviously cancelling my membership wasn't exactly what I was concerned with on my last few days at home and at $10 a month, I would have survived still having the automatic payment coming out of my bank every month. About 2 months after being gone, I asked my mother to find out how I could cancel my membership while I was gone... apparently I could only go in person. Then once I had time, I called and was told the same thing. I tried again twice over the following 3 months, but kept getting the same answer and apparently there were never managers in to speak with. ELEVEN months later, I'm still not home and I'm still paying for this gym... but finally an employee told me I could just send a letter in. REALLY? Why were none of the other employees telling me that before? Some knowledgable and helpful staff. Pft. I can't say I hate this place, just wish they would have been a little more helpful and understanding of my situation. People can't just take planes to sign a little paper that says I Quit. read more

You get what you pay for. You really can't beat $10/month, especially in Hoboken, where there isn't anything else that compares, price-wise. It gets the job done. Machines are there, treadmills/ellipticals/etc, and all the usually equipment. It's pretty standard, but nothing special. It's a gym and nothing to write home about, especially with how crowded it has been lately... The plusses: Clean, friendly staff, working equipment, TVs The minuses: Super crowded during any "peak" hour. It has a lot of treadmills and elliptical machines. To get to the locker rooms on the second floor, you have to walk through the first floor where members can only do the treads and the ellips and then take the stairs to the main room of more treads and ellips and then walk a couple more steps to the locker room. Nothing really gets you warmed up then exercising to the locker room. The place is pretty small. They do not have a section to do stretches or anything that does not have to do with moving your feet or the few amount of weights and machines that they have. If I had to compare the one in North Bergen, NJ is way better and there's parking. Also on the second floor I do not understand why the mirror's are behind treadmills and where everyone else is facing while working out. I obviously need that necessity to look at myself while I sweat . I'd come back if I have nowhere else to go. read more

Obviously, you can't beat the price here. However, there are other low price gyms that offer much more. (retro fitness, blink fitness) I feel like Planet Fitness is using it's "no lunk, no judgement" marketing scheme to cut their operating costs and the equipment they offer. The things that are missing and stuff that I do not like about planet fitness are as follows: No Higher weight dumbbells. No Real barbells, smith machines are terrible. Stretching area sucks and no stretching equipment. The locker room is not carpeted, easy to slip coming out of the shower or just walking around. No CBS available for some reason. I like to watch football when I run and usually plan my runs around when football is on. On that note, Fox doesn't even work. The channel is locked up half the time. No towels. Seems as if they removed the soap from the shower. This place get's really crowded. The front desk staff doesn't really pay attention to you. There is no staff walking around the actual gym. However, I do like the free pizza at the beginning of the month. Extra star for Pizza. Unfortunately, I'll be going back to NYSC, I'll pay the higher price for the little things like soap, towels, and tv's that work. read more

Monthly fee cheap. Two floors but no classes are available because of their space. i go early in the morning and the two guys are always on the massage chairs watching t.v. No one behind the front disk. Always the same workout machine broken. The cieling downstairs are always falling apart so you will see three buckets on the floor to hold the water. They leave cleaning bottle on top of the trash cans so you can clean the machines after using them. However the girl that comes in at 6am is always friendly. read more
