This place my little piece of heaven. It has the equipment you need and the place is spacious enough where you aren't constantly fighting for real-estate. Gym is definitely no frills. Get in, get out without much waiting on any equipment. The parking is key as with most gyms in area you have look around. The staff is relatively friendly giving the usual hello and goodbye. Towels are available on the counter which is definitely a plus given the fact some people don't understand the concept of wiping off the equipment. Speaking of equipment, you're not looking at the newest, hottest trendiest equipment just the old school iron weights and some cardio. Perfect for me. The only thing I would say is that they should hire someone to clean the weight area at least once or twice a week. There's cobwebs on the dumb bell rack and some benches. Also should offer free guest passes for people that want to check out the gym. I wanted to bring my fiancé to check it out but when I called was informed to bring a guest would be $10.70. I've been coming to world boxing gym since April 2021 and I have mixed feelings but it is one of the cheapest options in the area and it's a solid enough gym. However it is outdated and the machines and benches show it. Most times something will be out of order. The mirror in front of one of the squat racks has been missing for what seems like years with no intention to replace it. Most of the patrons have no gym etiquette and don't have any idea how to re-rack weights and I find myself organizing the weight trees most times. The dumbbells are falling apart too. The staff however is friendly and like I said it's the cheapest option and is never too crowded. If you can handle all this it's a fine place to workout read more

I love: the ample parking, the nearby public transportation, the friendly staff, the old school feel of the gym, the ample equipment, and the ease of going from one machine to another (since I typically go when it's quiet). I like: the towel service, the size of the gym, the boxing equipment and ring in the gym, and the non-gimmicky feel of the gym. I don't like: the see-through showers in the men's room (please change that), the size of the locker room, Otherwise, I like the place a lot. I've been coming to WBG since last June when I first moved to Jersey City. What I liked about it was that it's a no-frills kind of gym -- you're not paying for classes you'll never take, or a pool you'll never swim in, or daycare, or whatever other amenities other gyms have. I'm a 33yo guy who's been working out seriously for the past year and a half, and WBG seemed like a good fit. For the most part, it is. I try my best to go when it's not too crowded, and I can usually get my workouts in without interruption or too much waiting around. There's a decent variety of machines, squat racks, benches, etc., for the most part. It's a good gym overall. What makes this a 3-star review is the people. A lot of people don't re-rack their weights. I walk in and see 225 lbs set up on a deadlift bar. Is someone using it? Are they supersetting something else or taking a break? Who knows!? Either take a chance and unload the bar and get yelled at, or wait and see and watch someone else claim it while you try to be polite. Total crapshoot. This is the only gym I've ever been to that didn't have some kind of signage asking patrons to re-rack their weights. Cleanliness is also an issue. I've seen people walk off a treadmill dripping sweat, and just move on to another part of the gym without even wiping it down with a paper towel and spray. Puddles of sweat gather on benches and other seats, waiting to be wiped up or, even worse, sat upon by someone else. I've also seen people vaping on the floor, people coming in REEKING of weed, people wearing jeans and work boots, people spreading out their towel and water bottle and phone and keys on two or three separate pieces of equipment while only using one of them, people on their phones for upwards of 20 minutes at a time in the weight areas having FULL VOLUME conversations. There's just this overall lack of etiquette from a lot of the patrons, which makes this gym more unpleasant than it needs to be. It's not something I've experienced in other gyms to this extent. And since there's usually just one employee working at a time, nothing ever changes because no one is held accountable for anything. I'll keep coming here, because it's easily walkable for me, and for the most part, I can get in and out without having to talk to anyone. Some older equipment, but top-notch employees behind the desk make this a place you want to be at with their friendly faces and kind service. I would've given this place 4 stars instead of 5 for it's old but functional equipment and somewhat competitive pricing (and awful music) but now they pissed me off. I've been a member for about year total on and off but steady now for 5 straight months as I work through a couple injuries. A couple weeks ago I badly sprained my ankle and am on crutches and will need to be off it for an undetermined amount of time. I emailed management asking for a deferment; to suspend my membership until I am well again. Seems simple and the right thing to do. Their response: Hello Paul, Sorry to hear about your ankle. There are plenty of swanky gyms in Jersey City, but as far as I have seen, this is the only one in the Hamilton Park neighborhood that won't break your bank account. I paid $140 for 3 months. Of course, paying by the year is the cheapest, but I have visions of running outside again when it warms up. We'll see... It's been 12 years since I last belonged to a gym and I gotta say, it sure is nice to know that I can work out no matter the weather. I was afraid to go inside this place for a long time because I was put off by the fact that it's called a boxing gym. But I got a tip from a neighbor that it's a regular, no frills gym. The boxing ring is upstairs and apparently some famous boxer used to train there. The rest of the place looks like your average non-fancy grym. There are like 16 treadmills and a good 8 or so ellipticals (aka devil machines). There is a large area for the free weights as well as machines. With every new membership comes a session with the resident trainer. Carmine introduced me to a basic routine that, if I went to the gym more than once or twice a week, would probably really firm me up. I have been before work on weekdays and mid-day on the weekend and I have never seen the place even half full. It's mostly dudes who go there and they seem more interested in comparing muscles with each other, so I can safely say that as a woman, you will not feel like you are being ogled or that you need to wear the latest workout fashion that all these other ladies are wearing. Cons: The gym is not open late on weekends. It closes at 6 on Saturdays and 5 on Sundays. There are only 2 classes offered (yoga and zumba) at 6:30pm Monday - Thursday, so I will probably never go to one of those unless I'm working at home. read more

I like it here. It's pretty no frills, low-key... but that doesn't mean it's outdated. Okay, so some of the machines look old, but everything is usually functioning! There are 3 floors: 1) mostly cardio machines and some weight machines and free weights; 2) more weight machines (that I can't figure out how to use and am too embarrassed to ask) and free weights, about 7(?) punching bags and a boxing ring (I think only allowed if you pay for the special boxing classes); 3) a small studio for yoga classes, which also has a few free weights and mats and 2 spin bikes. Overall, lots of things you can do. Best of all, it's never thattt busy! Plus, a free parking lot? In Jersey City?? 8D The amenities aren't anything fancy, but free towels and a locker room (with a scale) are really all you need. Relatively cheap for Jersey City (even though it's kinda in a far corner on Division St) and good hours and friendly staff and you have me sold. Super easy to find and there's a parking lot right next to it where you can park, which is a bonus for Jersey City. The guy working the front desk was super chill. Came in for a day pass, had to sign a paper, pay the day pass fee and we were ready to go! They have towels at the front desk for your use. The gym has 3 floors. The main floor has your cardio equipment, some machines, your flat bench, incline bench, a few squat racks, and a smith machine. Up to the second floor are more machines, a bunch of heavy bags, a speed bag, a double ended bag, and a boxing ring. I got the privilege to watch a group boxing session with a coach and a female boxer workout a little bit, too. This is what attracted me to this gym because I've started to develop an interest in boxing. This was really cool to watch. 3rd floor is where they hold their group classes such as yoga. You can definitely feel the temperature change up there but you know you'll get a good workout if you sweating! It has a nice view over the second floor as well. The room is equipped with everything you'll need. Locker rooms were clean and had showers also. Though I came at night it wasn't overcrowded. I'll definitely make the trip again. read more

I just started going to this gym about a month ago. It is one of the cheaper gyms in the area, so I am happy I found it! I have been to the yoga classes as well where the instructor was very nice. I find it never to be too crowded so there is no wait time for machines or weights. The gym itself is 3 floors, the first with mostly cardio, some weights and racks. The 2nd floor has the boxing ring, some machines and an area to stretch with kettle bells etc. The 3rd floor is usually open unless there's a yoga class happening! I've been a member here for several months now. Initially when I first discovered WBG, I thought it's existence was too good to be true. A couple of selling points (in no particular sequence) for me were: it's location is within close proximity to home, has well maintained equipment, kept noticeably clean, never over crowded (at least when I visit), decent amount of free weights and machines, open floor space, doable hours of operation and about a dozen bags just waiting there to unleash aggression on. I also have noticed over the past few weeks how genuinely friendly the staff is. There are various classes offered but I have yet to attend any. My intentions for this review was not to attract an abundance of new members here (for my own selfish reasons :D ) but I feel credit is certainly due. I am looking forward to being able to put in more time here in the next few weeks. read more

Pros: it's the cheapest gym in the area (lol $100/mo at base/brickhaus). They have a solid amount of cardio equipment, free weights, machines and space to work in. They've got classes if you're into that sort of thing. They've got a boxing ring, and both heavy and speed bags if you want to punch/kick something. Towel service. Cons: can occasionally get cramped in the free weight section (pre-work and after-work hours are the worst). Some of the machines are pretty old, but they're also generally maintained adequately. Stuff: they've replaced and added some machines lately. For example, gone is one of the cable machines that wasn't calibrated properly, in it's place is a ladder climber. read more

I went in this morning to get a monthly membership because I wanted something affordable, just blocks away from my house and open late. The ground floor could use a face lift but the 2nd is much nicer and looks like a movie set with old punching bags. This place is keeping it real and no fancy BS. I have been going to this gym for years now. It's the best gym in JC, I use to go to NYSC when I first moved around here back in 2001, but once I found out about WBG I was sold! There's no distractions, no BS, they have everything one would need and the price is right! If you want fancy this is not your place, but if you want a real gym with real people inside who don't judge you and are willing to help you become the best you then THIS IS THE PLACE for you! Adam, the owner has put a lot of attention into making the gym better by overhauling things from the previous staff that was there before he took over a few years ago to the overall look of the place. Oh and I have never been treated badly there! I am a black man and I feel 100% safe there. I see minorities there all the time and I have never seen them treated badly either! A great atmosphere to workout as most are there to lift, run, or lift (unlike other places where people go to socialize). Not as crowded as other gyms and the staff is helpful. I'm so reluctant to write this because I think the employees that work at the front desk are great. However I do believe my experience with this gym will help people to make decisions whether or not to pursue a membership here. If you believe that because this gym is a small business, they will act like an old neighborhood friend, then you are mistaken. THE GYM - It's an older gym. If you're okay with that, then the facilities will be fine for you. There is carpet mostly throughout the building. I'm not sure if this is the most sanitary practice but it certainly does not make for the most clean environment. With carpet, sweat will seap through the material before it can be addressed and because of the street side location of the building, dust gathers in bunches. This makes the carpeting an eyesore and a bit skeevy. The equipment is old. That is understandable because this gym in no way pretends to be something it is not (like BASE or NYSC). But it does not appear that the equipment is cleaned At various machines, there are unidentifiable sticky substances that prevents a lot of the weights from being separated. This has to be from the humid conditions as well as the natural rust that develops on the machines. There is no air conditioning. In addition, there is very little air flow. This makes for a very unpleasant work out environment. Perhaps if there were some fans, it would help to cool things down and air things out. THE PRICE- The price is fair. This area is so up and coming, I think they can justify their prices. However, the amenities and classes offered do not really make the price worth it. I hope they're trying to add more services or up their decor, but I do not really see any signs of that. CUSTOMER SERVICE- Do not think as a member you will get any special treatment. My roommate inadvertently left my car in the parking lot after working out and when i went to retrieve it, I was given the third degree. The employee basically made me feel like I was some sort of criminal. Unfortunately it was an accident and when I told him I was a member of the gym, he didn't want to hear any of my explanation. Bear in mind that I have never used the parking lot there because I live within walking distance. I want to be fair and leave as much free parking to those who truly need it. I acknowledge that parking in JC is a nightmare and they want to protect their lot but his response was disproportionate to the incident. I did notice that he parked a huge SUV in the street so perhaps he should think twice about his own parking behaviors as he is indirectly taking spots from people. I was hoping that as a member I would be treated a bit more fairly. Bottom Line: I had high hopes for this gym but maybe it was a case of misplaced expectations. I wanted to overlook a lot of things because they are a small business. My family owned a small business and what they lacked in modern amenities was their appreciation of the customers, pleasant attitudes and dedication to service. I've joined over a dozen boxing gyms in my 20+ years history. Most gyms range between $50-$70 a month. This includes boxing classes. That's why I'm joining a boxing gym. This establishment charges $55 a month PLUS $10 a class. Normal class attendance for me and most is 3 classes a week. That's $30 extra EVERY week! Absurd!. So in the short month of February my monthly cost is $55 + $30 a week X 4 weeks= $55 + $120 for a grand total of $175!! In 20 years, I've never seen such a business and I don't expect them to last. There are other boxing gyms less than 5 minutes away that I recommend you choose first Unless money and value mean little to you. read more

I go as a guest with my husband and the times I have gone it has not been over crowded and just right. People who do go there are there to work out. It's not a socialite place, it's a gym to workout and go. Would have given it 0 stars if possible. I wrote an honest review of this gym on FB, indicating that the equipment was poorly maintained and often broken, which is completely true. Because of that post the owner of the gym, Adam Polulak, sent me nasty FB messages and terminated my contract despite the fact that I had not violated any of the terms and conditions of the contract. Even though I had already paid for this month, Adam informed me that he will not honor that payment and will contact the police if I attempt to use the gym. Adam even went so far as to have his attorney call and threaten me. Adam is a tiny little man with a serious Napoleon complex who constantly looks to start problems with members. If the gym was of any quality, or even reasonably priced, MAYBE it would be worth it. But it isn't. So do yourself a favor and avoid World Boxing Gym, Adam, and his tiny fragile little "ego." read more

Initially signed up because I had a livinsocial deal, thinking there was Boxing classes available. The gym smells like a basement, a lot of machines, they have classes ( A LOT of yoga) but if you want bootcamp classes than you have to pay extra. If you sign up thinking the gym offers classes than its not worth it, only if a person is ok to workout with machines. read more

I'm afraid this place doesn't seem clean for a gym. The machines are old and not in good shape - I have seen rust on many of them. When anything breaks, it takes forever to fix it - a bike and treadmill went unfixed for literally months and there are limited machines to begin with. The WiFi is horrible. There is no air circulation and they are stingy with any air that they put on, leaving the gym very smelly and stuffy. I think I saw what looked like blood on the carpet recently, but I can't say, though I hate to think it probably was. For all of these reasons, it's really inexpensive and I appreciate that, but I'm not exactly paying $10 a month so I think they can do a lot better for the rate they charge. read more

I will try to refrain from reviewing any small business I don't like. Remember when you a support a small business you like you add to to prosperity of your neighborhood,which in turn positively effects the prosperity of your city,state,and our country. People who come here come to workout and that's it. So ladies leave your lulelemons at home and put on that oversized tshirt and those sweat pants you like to wear all weekend and come on down to the WBG. I used to go to the WBG when I needed some plain old cardio in between my regular barre classes. The eliptical machines are not new but who cares . I am sure I got the same workout on that older machine as I would on a brand spanking state of the art eliptical at a fancy gym. Upstairs they have a cool retro(meaning it is really old and not meant to look like that)Rocky Balboaesque boxing ring with gloves,in addition to punching bags and jump ropes(ladies think of Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby).
