I've been going here for many years and never complained about anything. I like the new equipment they added, but we still need another leg curl machine. Usually I see it occupied by someone looking at their phone. My main gripe and what made me come and leave a mediocre review is the showers. 2 of 4 have been down for at least a month and one of the "working" showers is missing a shower head. It seems like things don't get fixed very fast. One month is too long. An ab crunch machine was recently fixed after about a month of being inactive. A cable machine had splayed cables and they put electrical tape on it. It lasted a few days and now that's been down for a week so far. Many times I see paper towel dispensers and spray bottle holders broken or completely empty. Trash cans full. Walls dirty with hand prints. Dirty fans. Rusty walls. Moldy showers with shower rings missing and crusty shower curtains (even though they just replaced the two shower curtains). It all adds up to make me feel like they don't care about the appearance of the place anymore. The staff is fairly nice, but the one woman I saw cleaning machines frequently no longer works there. I think more attention to cleanliness and broken machines and towel dispensers would really make the place level up. Getting rid of unused machines like the big fan bike and angled ab benches, then replacing those with another leg curl machine and maybe a fly machine would be a nice addition too. read more

Any place in Hawaii that has parking is a win for me. Better yet, free parking? Count me in! I typically go around 6-7pm on weekdays and although it does get busy, the patrons are typically courteous. Everyone is there to work out and get out, no obnoxious loud phone calls, personal music, or machine hogging. Most of the tv screens on the treadmills do not work but that is typical for a planet fitness. Place is relatively decent in terms of cleanliness with plenty of paper towels and spray available to wipe down your stations. I joined the gym when it first opened. I've seen every crew thats been thru here. I'll just say the prior group was nicer. I wont say all of the present staff BUT most would rather chat than acknowledge the person standing at the counter... and if attitude is commonplace nowadays - it shows and thats sad. I dunno if my review will even matter but alot of the members at the gym have lasted longer than the staff. So maybe it will. Customer service isn't asking for the moon. You represent your brand. A little niceness isn't a reach, saying "I dont know" can be a response, but it has and will never be the final answer for a customer. That's just basic training. so I just had 2 rude experiences in 24 hours there and maybe I just got the less than favorable personalities or the two people were having off days... whatever the case, thats your brand and Ill remember this. read more

Not surprised this location has such a low rating. Visited with a friend a couple times and just walked in a few times since staff don't check. Except for the reception staff who seem to be on their phones there's no staff presence. That's a problem when there's members who put their belongings so they can workout on a few machines at the same time. Or people working out without covered shoes and leaving bags when there's a sign prohibiting it. During the limited number of visits I noticed how many machines like the elliptical machine doesn't have TVs working. Better options so stay away. read more

I am in love with the new remodeled equipments, and additional new equipments. The gym looks so much bigger too!!! Im also glad they didn't have the same equipment as Kahala. I feel most of the equipments in kahala isn't great, or not thick thigh friendly! I hope the staff maintains the cleanliness of the equipments. The old equipments where rusty and so hard to glide your plates. The thing that I wish they had was the half tire equipment. Overall this gym is so much better! I live closer to 24 hour fitness like walking distance wise but I still choose to go here because I like that it's a whole lot cleaner, doesn't smell bad like 24, the staff are a lot nicer and tidier, free parking, membership fee is very reasonable, it's been only 7-8 years since they've been opened at this location and they've already upgraded to new equipments while 24 hour fitness seems like they haven't upgraded their equipments in like over 20 years... read more

Bobby's attitude sucks. Judgement Free Zone my Ass. every time I walked in there I was met with prejudice and backhanded comments or stink eyes. despite the other staff being cordial and making up for his poor behavior it was just a pain in the ass being "greeted" with that energy before the most important part of my day. so now I travel further out of the way to frequent a different location with much more welcoming and kinder staff. read more

This is the worse location. Almost every worker here except for a couple older ladies are rude and look like they hate their job.

This GYM is CLEAN! Plenty of cleaning stations. Staff knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I always see them cleaning around the gym and fixing the equipment. Locker rooms are spotless and well stocked. The 30 minute circuit would be better served with regular equipment because the 30 minute circuit rules are rarely followed which is VERY frustrating. Otherwise this place is WONDERFUL! I've already signed up one friend and always speak highly of this gym. I feel he genuinely cared about my concern and was willing and capable to address it for me. It seems this gym gets a few unbeautiful reviews. This facility provides a number of workout equipment and arranged where you can focus on specific parts in your workout. The layout is simple and convenient. From the front entrance, you'll have along the wall all the abdominal equipment for your abdominis and obliques workout. In the center, you'll have the cardio machines. To the right of the cardio machines are free weights. To the left of the cardio machines are equipments to work out specific parts of your body gradually moving from your legs upward towards your arms. Lastly, in the back of the gym are the locker rooms, a small yoga area, and a speed workout area. NOTE: they're 4 wipe down stations. Please be courteous and wipe down equipment after every use. Planet fitness has a fair monthly and annual price. Also, ask about any promotional deals before you sign up. Staff members are nice and helpful, and the facility is clean and well-kept. Another thing I like about Planet Fitness is when you download the app. It tells you the busy time periods. It's good to know if I'm able to get a workout in or not. I love the location of the Ala Moana planet fitness!!! Unfortunately, many machines are now broken or some part is loose , the treadmill have a few broken TV screens. The Kahala planet fitness has newer machines. The wear over time is really noticeable at the Ala Moana branch. Even some of the purple is rubbed off. Too many people just sit on the machines daydreaming. I usually don't take pictures here but just wanted to show the 30 minute section to Yelpers. I enjoyed the red light therapy after my workout. I felt relaxed and rejuvenated after a great workout. The gym wasn't so crowded which was a bonus. I got to get all my sets in that I wanted to but I know at peak times it gets a bit overcrowded. Two points, level of importance is personal perception. One, mahalo for adding new, outstanding equipment, yes, I had my wish answered, seated calf raise, infinite mahalo. I have worked out at this gym for 3 1/2 years & have never been unhappy, I don't understand any low ratings. I comprehend the paradigm of perception but anything under a 3 is absolute BS, unless people expect a "happy ending" every time they walk out! Two, the likelihood of 2 people meeting is an exponential of one in a quadrillion. So, I am one of the luckiest people on the planet, 3 /1/2 years ago I met Hannah at this Planet Fitness, in this city, in this Universe. Splendeferous, angelic & spectacular are mortal words that apply but can't begin to define anything that is undefinable. 3 1/2 years, 4-5/ days a week & 1-2 hrs. a day, miss her is an insult to this condition that renders me infinitely sad, lost..., lost for words, I will never stop looking for you. In the course of my time at this gym, I have encountered behavior from staff member Robert that can only be described as consistently insulting and condescending. On multiple occasions, he has referred to paying adult members as "children" and addressed them in an unprofessional manner, calling them "dude." Recently, while using a machine, another member--let's call him "Gym"--approached hurriedly to retrieve his phone and keys that he had left out of sight on the back of the equipment. I courteously allowed him to gather his belongings and continued my workout. Rather than moving along, this member lingered, glaring at me with hostility, insisting that because his items had been there, he was entitled to reclaim the machine after leaving to get a drink, completely exiting the workout floor. I explained, firmly but politely, that it is unreasonable to expect others to leave a machine unused simply because one's belongings were left behind. In response, the member shouted insults, demanding to know "where my manners" were and telling me to "get a life." Seeking to de-escalate, I suggested we involve a staff member. The member agreed. At the front desk, I explained the situation to Robert. His response was wholly inappropriate: he dismissed the encounter by likening it to "children on a playground." When I objected to being referred to in such a manner--both myself in my forties and the other member in his sixties--Robert doubled down, repeating that disputes between members sounded like "children" bickering. After pressing him on the disrespect, Robert attempted an apology, but not without first advising me that if I chose to file a complaint with management, I should "keep his name out of it." I might have been willing to let the incident pass. However, upon returning to the gym one evening--unaware they were about to close in ten minutes--I encountered Robert again, standing at the front desk, arms akimbo, nose in the air, greeting me with an expression that was anything but welcoming. When I courteously said I would return another time to be respectful of the closing staff, he dismissed me with a mocking, "Later, dude." This kind of passive-aggressive disrespect has been a pattern with Robert. It leads one to reasonably question whether he acts this way with the silent approval of management. If you choose to join this gym, know this: should you be harassed or mistreated by another member, do not expect Robert--or by extension, management--to provide you with any meaningful assistance. At best, you will be insulted. At worst, you will be met with contempt thinly disguised as customer service. read more

I joined planet fitness in November 24. I went one time with my daughter in law. I called within a week and cancelled my membership, decided it wasn't for me. Next month I was charged for the 2 memberships. Called again, cancel my membership. This went on until I was finally told that I needed to submit it in writing, which I did. Still charged. I wrote again, including a copy of the original letter. Still being charged. Some of the time my bank balance was too low, so I was also charged $24 for each payment. The only way to stop it is to close my bank account. Join at your own risk, this business is unethical. read more

They sent me a blank agreement. Says to check their website when it doesn't have the exact cancelation policies. I didn't even know about a late charge since it wasn't on the agreement they sent me. I like planet fitness as a whole and really glad they're here. I have a black card and really enjoy that I can use any location in the world. The only thing about this location is the line. Wait times are crazy because of space limitations. They have a "crowd meter" on their app but I went went the crowd meter was only at half capacity and the line was still huge (see photos). I bet it would have taken me 45 minutes to wait but I bailed after waiting for about 10. Not sure why their crowd meter wouldn't be accurate but since I can't rely on it I probably won't be coming here again until it's fixed. read more

BEWARE WHEN CANCELLING MEMBERSHIP: They make you cancel in person at the location (which is an inconvenience in 2024, honestly - if you can sign up online, you should also be able to cancel online) I went out of my way to cancel in person. They took my information & said that I'm all set to go - that my account has been cancelled & that I was welcome to continue to use the gym until my membership ended on 4/16. On 4/17 my account was charged and my account is still showing as active on 4/24. I recommend that If you cancel your membership ask for documentation right then and there to have peace of mind that your account is actually cancelled. I called the location to ask why I was still being charged and they told me that I didn't ever come in in person to cancel (I did) and they have no records of me coming in. The best they could offer was for me to come back in during a time that a manager was present to "maybe get a refund or something" (? K.) The gym itself is fine, it's clean & it's never overly crowded to a point where I can't use the machines that I want... but cancelling a membership is an obstacle that shouldn't be as difficult as they're making it. Personally, I think this business model sucks and I won't be returning to any PF location for membership in the future. read more

First of all that crowd meter (bleh!!) its the same regardless it's 2 or 20 people in line...useless!! Love the price and convenience though it is a very small gym with just the minimum of everything you'd need it's still really awesome and I truly appreciate what they've been trying to do during the pandemic. Other than the obvious noting has really changed still able to do all the workouts and black card services which is great because I love my massages and always look forward to it even though it's been months since I've been here. Update during COVID-19 Stay At Home Order in Hawai'i. Kudos to the Planet Fitness management for not deducting membership dues during this Stay At Home Order. It's great that a company will not continue to bill you for service or membership while its shutdown even though membership is only $20+/month (Black Card). In the meantime, to keep active, we've turned to use their workouts found on their app where you can choose a workout based upon your fitness level or focus on. We like the app workouts, and they help to keep us active and not turn into couch potatoes. We signed up for the Black Card membership back in November 2017 just before this new gym opened and have been going to work on our cardio and light strength training. This gym, as its advertisements state, isn't for bodybuilders or those who are looking for more intense cross-fit workouts. Yeah, yeah, one can say that you'll find more middle age to elderly here but even if that might be so, you have to credit them for either voluntarily wanting to or having been physician-ordered to step up their activity levels. We've enjoyed working out in this clean gym and the people at the front desk are usually pretty friendly as they will greet you when you enter and bid you farewell when you leave. They maintain the equipment and locker rooms quite well. Of course, they have a cleaning schedule, and sometimes, if you come in between, you might find a mess. But, fear not...if you let them know about it, they'll quickly come to clean. That means that each member has the responsibility of maintaining the facility in the way you'd want to find it and not leave a mess for others. Due to the inexpensive membership, they do not provide towel service so all it takes from each member is to BRING YOUR OWN TOWEL and to wipe down the equipment with the paper towels and sanitizing spray that's provided at PF. Does it get busy? Of course, it does and I can't tell you what's the best time(s) to go and workout. There's an abundance of cardio and light strength training equipment as well as a separate 30-minute training area to choose from and you can work out at your own pace but please be aware of others who might want to complete their workout circuit. Can't wait for Planet Fitness to re-open after this COVID-19 Stay At Home Order is slowly lifted even as we'll continue to observe social distancing. read more

You get what you pay for... Yes, as I read about complaints about PF I think to myself, you get what you pay for. For the amount you pay a month to use PF's equipment, services, facilities and maintenance it's a good deal. As a former member of __hr and finally getting back into it, I feel PF has enough equipment to fill my workout needs. Sure there is peak times when everything is taken and you have to wait. But, hey you can be versatile tweak your routine. I'm not a gym rat that'll workout for hours, I just get it done and I'm gone.
