This planet fitness is always sketcy. Customers in muscle shirts, grunting, slamming weights, bags on the floor, and weights left on equipment. Tried to buy a towel and the worker says "our manager doesn't stock that stuff". I don't like coming here, but sometimes it's needed for their circuit room. read more

They get two stars because they have new equipment. They have a fantastic selection of equipment. Not everything but enough. There's no manager. Or assistant manager. Or trainer. The ropes are worn out. The water filter has been on red for awhile and stuff floats in my water. There's hard water stains all over the fountain. In general the place is dirty. The ceilings are stained. The rafters are filthy. The equipment is frequently filthy. The paper towels for sanitary stations almost never works or is out. The hand soap is frequently out in the bathroom. It's just a generally dirty place. But new equipment. And lots of it. read more

I love PF, however this one is disgusting. I have been going there consistently for about three months now and it has progressively gotten dirtier. I can't speak for the men's bathroom, but the women's bathroom is absolutely disgusting, there's always trash on the floor, dirt in the lockers, and overflowing feminine products in the garbage cans in the stalls. While walking out tonight I stepped on a men's razor blade full handle and all. I also notice that they are hiring and I understand that however every time I am there 1 to 2 people behind the counter are on their phones so there is absolutely no excuse that the place can't be more clean. If you can't clean or take care of things you might as well shut down and have people go to cedar falls PF where they keep things clean. read more

Service more then not continues to get a 1. They brought in a guy (trainer) who pepped up the intro, doing what all employees should, say hello, smile, thank you, is helpful. They had a little smile to sad face button device you could hit in your way out while some of the rudest, not give a Shi- employees stand behind the counter hanging out looking on. As employees hang out you still wait to use tan beds as they aren't clean. More then once it's felt like the bed wasn't clean. Need to do maintenance as needed not wait until something is completely broken. The main problem lies with the manager. For a non judgemental place she behaves the opposite. Picks and chooses who she's friendly to by maybe sex (men), friends, know you personally, favorite employees that gab with her? Rarely smiles, brushes past people looking put out. Not friendly, not welcoming and not very motivated and some employees follow suit. A forced hello doesn't cut it. I am a person with a good self image, and am more just annoyed at hers and others behavior, others who already struggle to walk through the doors are the ones I feel for. She sets the proper tone for other employees, though if you don't like to work with the public don't work with the public people. Some things even cheap rates can't justify. It would be great if the showers were more private. A curtain doesn't cut it. read more

I love pf Waterloo There are a few improvements that could be made. But for the money its dead on. I am thrilled that they are 24/5 but 24/7 would definitely be better. The corporate app could definitely use improvement. It is awesome that there is a trainer but why she cannot sync with the app is beyond me. That alone would make her job and our goals a lot easier. read more

During the last year the bathroom is a pig pen. Equipment is out dated or broken a lot. Belt slips on treadmills and I strained my knee. Go to Cedar Falls instead. read more

Planet Fitness - This place has gone to the dogs - Gyms Near Me - Waterloo, Iowa

I'm a member of 5 different gyms, because I work out with a variety of friends and they all go to different gyms. This gym is only $9 a month, which I think is very reasonable. Today I found out that they no longer have WIFI, so I might cancel my membership because that really makes me mad. However, if you can get over that, they have a large variety of equipment, and the biggest selection of cardio machines of any gym I've seen. Another thing that bothers me is that they only have machines for bench press and squats, and to me that just isn't the same workout than an actual free weight bars. They have it's of classes they offer if you are into that, and also have massage beds and tanning beds they offer for $10 more per month. It is a good gym to go to if you are just the casual workout person, but for a more advanced person I would find another gym. read more

This is to advise management and planet fitness users about one of the fitness centers employees. I am talking about Luke. He always has something nice to say when you enter, and when again when you leave always saying "Thank you". I feel he goes out of his way to do his job and although this is not his permanent career objective, to show that some day he will be a great teacher. I have been coming to Planet Fitness for a couple of years now, and have never seen anyone even change the clock today like Luke did. He wasn't asked or told, but looked at his watch, went and got the ladder "done". I'm not saying that there are not other employees there that are not nice, I'm saying that Luke is genuine and a great employee. read more

I just bought a membership this week and have gone about 5x. I was skeptical when I heard about their dress code and free pizza days. However they are cheap and offer quite a few services, including: classes, hydromassage, training plans. It was easy to sign up online then pickup my keytag. The front desk people are always super nice. Ive gone at 6am, 8am and 2pm. It has never been super crowded, never had trouble getting the machine I want to use or anything. It seems they have a pretty good thing going. Lots of different workout areas. I love the 12 minute ab circuit. I am happy with it so far. It has always been clean, though Ive not showered here. My husband and I have been coming to the Waterloo PF for the last 6 years! Initially we had no complaints, the gym was always kept clean, things picked up and staff was always friendly. Of late things have definitely changed and here are just a few things that we have noticed. 1. Entry way floors dirty, always needs mopping and carpets need vacuuming. 2. When we arrive at 4:30 a.m. the staff member is always watching something on his phone, hat on backwards and looking unprofessional. Often found watching movies on an ipad as well. 3. Bathrooms NOT cleaned; toilets, urinals, floor, paper towels overflowing the garbage cans and once when my husband took the worker into the men's room and pointed out how things have been uncleaned for an extended period of time the workers response was "this isn't my job"...ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! 4. Lots of dust, dust balls, wrappers and paper towels EVERYWHERE on the floor. It has been a couple of years since we have seen the backpack vacuum being used. 5. Broken equipment for a long length of time. 6. The outside area in front of the door is often littered with garbage and wrappers. I know this is outside, but at least it could be cleaned up to give a good impression of the business. 7. Often times loose equipment is left all over and not returned to where it belongs. There was a time when this gym was kept up very well, but with the change of employees and management over the last 12 months this place has become very dirty and unkept, and the employees or management DO NOT seem to recognize it! read more

The gym is nice and priced well. I think they should have a cleaning person staffed 24/7 locker rooms should be cleans every hour as most public restrooms are. The showers are gross as well as the toilets and sink area. U feel dirtier after showering and getting ready then u do after a work out. I have talked to the staff about this and nothing has changed and the showers are cold. End rant read more

I live very close by so I never actually used their showers so I cant attest to what other reviewers wrote. Its a big space and equipment is new but let me tell you this: They seem to think that the irritation over their customer service is the best and healthiest workout you can get. Due to unforeseen circumstances (medical bills) I had trouble keeping up with payments. The first time I had insufficient funds I was unaware if they were going to try to draw the fee again or not. I did call to ask them and their answer was no. This is wrong. I got my paycheck a day later and I could have asked someone to lend me money and pay them back next day but I thought well I take care of it the next day after I cash my paycheck. But they did draw my account again and my paycheck wasn't on it yet so I got another $31 bounce fee from my bank. Another time I asked about the cost of downgrading and possibly cancelling my membership and I was told that there was no cost for downgrading from the $20 black card membership to the $10 one. Also wrong. I can't recall the amount they stated for the cancellation fee but it was also different from the next time I asked. Both mine and my boyfriends account were linked to my bank account so I was going to wait until we both were able to go there to change it to the $10 membership. Turned out downgrading would cost tho and we were also told about another fee that didn't come through back in march which has never been mentioned to us before. So we decided to cancel and heard yet another different amount for the cancellation fee. We wanted to take care of everything ( both cancellation fees, the missing one from march and an outstanding one from this month). We asked if the monthly fee would still be drawn out of my account or if the draw would be cancelled if we paid it along with the other fees now at the gym. They said that it should not be a problem. So we payed it all that day but I checked my bank account and they still withdrew it. So we need to get a refund but only the manager which conveniently (sarcasm) is only there at hours I myself am at work can refund us. Also the refund even tho we paid cash can only be made out in form of a check which I'm gonna have a hard time cashing because I have two customer service jobs and work during the banks open hours. On their website is no number or email to write complaints to. You are advised that all issues can be solved by your home club on location. Maybe if their employees were trained properly and provided truthful information (not guesses disguised as facts) that would be true. I could have acted to downgrade or cancel quicker - true. I am responsible for insufficient funds - true. But I am less than impressed at the knowledge of their employees and the way the company provides (barley any) customer service. Had I been informed properly I would have been able to make a appropriate adjustment to make it work out financially months ago. I could have afforded to stay at the $10 monthly fee but no thank you. I have had enough headaches. I would NOT recommend this gym. Ever. Not because of the facilities but because of the incompetence of the company and not being able to trust information given about basic questions about their fees billing procedures. read more

The facility is new as is the equipment, unfortunately if you need to shower you have to deal with low water pressure as well as intermittent hot water issues. Have mentioned to staff multiple times but no action has been taken. Not a bad deal especially if you do not need to shower after workout. read more
