In today's review, the "Typical" are things Planet Honda did, but seem typical of car dealers in general. The Good: 1. Great selection. Largest used car inventory I've ever seen. 2. Cars appear* to have good prices. You'll see why I have an asterisk on that later. 3. The car we went to see was in great condition. 4. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Salesman (Luna) is very pleasant, friendly, and professional.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 5. After negotiation were complete, everything they stated in terms of the 'out-the-door' price was as agreed upon and the finance rate was accurate. 6. As a Honda certified car, the car came with new tires. 7. They washed the car for us and provided a full tank of gas. The Bad: 1. Their website states "Final Sale Price (inc $999 Doc. Fee)" for each car. But that's not true. They add in mandatory fees, referred to as optional, but you don't have a choice: - Appearance Package: Door edge guards and pinstriping. Value: approx $25 retail. Planet Honda price: $995. On our car it was obviously old pinstriping, with small sections missing. The door edge guards were on the car so long they showed sun fading. - Nitrogen Tire Protection: $199. Tire manufacturers give a road hazard warranty. Costco gives nitrogen fill for free. Where's the value? - Safe and Secure Package - $389 2-yr key replacement and wheel locks. What's the likelihood of a key fob going bad in 2-yrs? Better to save the fee and buy one if you need it. I've had key fobs last the life of the car and I've never lost or broken one. Wheel locks are ~$52 from Honda on-line. - $1500 Return customer discount. This was "already credited" to the Final Sale Price. So if you didn't buy a car there in the last 2-years, your price is goes up by $1500. Surprise! 2. We were made to wait hours for the car to be detailed. "Detailing" has a very specific meaning. Beyond washing, it includes clay barring to remove contaminants in the paint, waxing, deep cleaning the interior, restoring painted surfaces, etc. Planet Honda washed our car and used a lot of Armor All on the tires. That's it. The paint looked good but felt rough. After "detailing", we found French fries, drinking straw covers, a plastic spoon, a couple of toy pieces, a cigarette tip, a broken ear bud, and sticky coins between the back seats. There were light stains on the seats. And once the perfumed smell of cleaner faded, I could start smelling the cigarette smoke from the last owner. A real detailing would have taken care of this. Based on our experience at another Honda dealer, this would have been taken care of before we took the car. Not Planet Honda. Instead, we were made to sign a document that stated we accept the car as is. 3. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It took 2 1/2 hours before we could go in to see the finance guy who then tried to sell us on overpriced warranty coverage.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] More on that under "The Typical" section. 4. [[HIGHLIGHT]]8 1/2 hours at the dealership. 4 hours in negotiations. The biggest time wasters: The manager raising the price on the car by $2,000 after we had already negotiated close to where we wanted to be. We began to walk out, and they started negotiating again. Next, they wanted us to sign paperwork agreeing to finance without telling us what the interest rate would be. They claimed they couldn't find out because their finance guy was in the other building even though they already pulled our credit. When we began to leave again, they immediately produced a printout that showed the interest rates for various credit ratings. Another 30 minutes wasted[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. 5. They refused to give us anything in writing even though we had agreed to the deal but needed the final contract so we can see that it reflected what we expected. The Typical 1. $999 documentary fee. A pure profit play all dealers use, and Planet Honda is among the highest. 2. Adding hidden nonsense fees to their "final advertised price". These extra fees were added after we agreed to terms. On the plus side, they didn't separately add in the expenses needed to bring the car up to the Honda certified standards like other dealers. 3. Finance pushed a $4,000++ warranty for the same 5-yrs as the CPO coverage. I've had multiple GM cars and one Honda over the past 30+ yrs, drove all over 200,000 miles and never spent that much in maintenance or repairs over the lifetime of each car. Bottom line: [[HIGHLIGHT]]The overall experience was draining. Closing the deal shouldn't take 8 hrs, especially when we told them we wanted the car within the first 30 mins. The people are pleasant, but we almost walked out twice because they were playing games. Their trustworthiness leaves a lot to be desired because they wouldn't give us anything in writing (other than hand scribbled numbers that were all over the place) to look at while we were sitting in the dealership.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In the end, the price we walked away with was fair in comparison to other cars we've seen and we're happy with the car. Typical sleazy car-dealership experience--lots of games and nonsense. I only came here because my sister was shopping for a new vehicle, and we tried to give them a fair shot. But be prepared for the usual add-ons: nitrogen tires, VIN etching, pinstripes, and other bogus fees. The only reason we walked out with a halfway decent deal was because I had already gotten a quote from another dealership, so they knew we weren't messing around. Tip: always get a price quote elsewhere first, or they'll try to take advantage of you. My sister had a trade-in that they initially offered $1,500 for. The moment we threatened to walk, that magically became $4,000. In the finance office, the first interest rate they gave was "okay," but once we mentioned we could secure a better rate elsewhere, they suddenly dropped it by 0.25%. Moral of the story: keep negotiating and don't settle for the first number they throw at you. I hate that buying a car has to feel like a game of tug-of-war, but that's the reality here. If you don't care about anything other than the price of the car, Planet Honda has a good, competitive selection. If you care about ANYTHING else, find another dealer. Their sales department is pretty rough. I was at the dealer for 12 hours over 2 days just to get them to offer the ORIGINAL price my 2021 CPO Civic Sport was listed at. They're very snaky and will try to slide in every additional charge fathomable. That's not totally out of the norm for a used dealer, though. The unforgivable part was what happened with my key. I had a coworker that bought a car at the same dealer a little before me. We found out one day that the proximity unlock from the key fob for his car unlocked mine! There are a few possible reasons for this, most of which are due to a really bad error on the part of a technician or salesman to either cross-program or fail to reset their system. At one point he used this error to prank me (see attached picture). Thank God it was a friend, not a stranger! I called Planet Honda, they said they'd replace it for free in 15 minutes, which I expected given the fact that it's an urgent security issue. I get there, and they tell me they can't confirm without my friend there (I'm obviously not dragging my friend to the dealer), and that it will take 2-3 hours (I did not arrange for transportation and don't live close). Eventually, after 15-20 minutes of negotiation, I was able to get them to reprogram it for free. It did take 3 hours, though, and they were always very dismissive of my complaint the entire time. By the time I left it felt like they still didn't believe me that my coworker's key worked on my car. Lo and behold, my coworker and I tested it the next day, and he was no longer able to get in. This is not a coincidence. They made an egregious error, and made me jump through as many hoops as possible to fix it. Again, good price for a good car so not 1-star. But so many complaints about everything else, plus an urgent security issue, means no more than 2. read more

Terrible experience at Planet Honda--please avoid this dealership. We waited over 10 minutes before anyone helped us, and after the test drive, the $17k listing suddenly jumped to $23k with ridiculous fees. When we refused, the salesperson pretended to "talk to his manager," made us wait 30 minutes, and came back lowering only a few hundred dollars. When we stood up to leave, he suddenly dropped the price to $18k and asked for our driver's license and credit card. After we handed them over, we waited another 40+ minutes while he was literally chatting and laughing with his friends. When he finally returned, the price magically went back up to $22k. Completely dishonest and a total waste of time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The employees at this Planet Honda location are rude and unprofessional--I was genuinely shocked.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I already knew what to expect because, at the end of the day, salespeople are incentivized by commission. To give some backstory, I leased my 2023 Honda HR-V from this location in March '23. The experience was about what I expected, but the salesman I worked with at the time was very friendly, which made the process bearable. (P.S. He no longer works there, so that tells you everything you need to know.) Fast forward to last week, when I decided to buy out my lease. I knew going in that I was going to have a hard time because dealerships don't like when you buy out a lease. I came prepared: I did my research and got pre-approved for an auto loan from a bank to buy out the car. Prior to going in, I called the leasing company and asked for the total buyout amount, and they told me it was $21k. Keep that in mind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we got to the dealership, we were thrown from salesman to salesman, and everyone was rude the minute we stated that we weren't interested in buying or leasing a new car.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I understand that you work off commission, but it's common decency to treat all customers with basic respect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After we met the main salesman, Jermaine (or something like that), he took us to his office and immediately started gaslighting us into thinking that buying out the lease wasn't an option. He talked down to me and my sister and laughed at us when we asked questions--extremely condescending.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He came back with almost $3k in extra fees that he couldn't explain. He also lied about whether those fees were required. We asked for an itemized breakdown of all the fees, and it literally stated that half of them were optional. When we pointed that out, he visibly got upset and pretended to go talk to his manager. At this point, I was enraged by the unprofessionalism. He came back and claimed that the only reason the fees were marked "optional" was because the dealership had the option to sell us the car with those fees--which makes no sense. I also want to point out that we were kept waiting for hours throughout this entire process. We were there for a total of 8 hours, by the way. Eventually, we asked to speak with the manager. When the manager came in, he confirmed that the fees were optional, and we basically had to haggle to get some of them removed. I still ended up paying half of those fees, which was honestly ridiculous. Then, when it was time to pay, the original salesman tried to charge me the original price, thinking I wouldn't notice. I have never been so shocked by the lack of integrity from a company in my life. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The moment they realized we weren't falling for their games, they treated us like trash. They tried to overwhelm us with numbers and paperwork to intimidate us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm literally an accountant. At one point, he gave me a packet to sign, and at least two of the documents included additional optional fees that he assumed I would sign without reading. This is a horrible dealership - I contacted the dealership to inquire about a vehicle that aligned with my budget, upon arrival I was greeted by the manager who advised that she would connect me with a salesperson - the salesperson stated "I don't see this car, but, we have other HR-V's" I informed him that I was not there for click bate - if they didn't have it just let me know - road with him to another location and was advised that it was sold to the wholesale staff person. He said since I was in the business, and they failed to have the car that they confirmed he would take care of me. I said I'll call you back, and didn't because I was getting information on this, but, Daniel returned my call to tell me that he wanted to work with me, confirmed I was ready to proceed with the 2024 Honda, HR-V, hours later, I receive a text saying "Sorry, Samantha, this is the best price we can do!" After signing, I discovered prices and charges in the paperwork that were never clearly explained or consistent with what I was originally shown. What made it worse is that the final contract and the payment terms did not match the verbal information I was given in the dealership. I've been paying for this lease since March and only realized afterward how much the pricing didn't line up with what I was promised. We purchased a 2018 Jeep Willy from this dealership in April. From day 1 we were given the run around by sales and told lies about a manager who would call us back only to find out on our own that he longer worked there. The car had several issues some of which were rectified only after I brought the jeep to my own mechanic and a Jeep dealer and then Planet Honda repaired them. The one item they tried to repair several times and failed, was an issue with water coming into the jeep through the floor. They were unsuccessful and seven months later I still have wet floors when it rains. And now they are washing themselves of responsibility to rectify the situation. We then contacted the Lithia Group customer care team, who finally contacted us after 10 days and were absolutely no help. They said they tried to fix it in good faith so there is nothing more we can do. Nothing more they can do? How about letting a jeep dealership fix it since they are familiar with Jeeps? That would be a solution not a dismissal of issues that have been reoccurring for months now. The customer care team motto is Lithia Cares, however, it should be called, Lithia couldn't care less about their customers. Extremely disappointed with the 7 months of torture they put us through and never remedied the situation properly. We still have a Jeep that leaks. They obviously don't stand behind the products that they sell nor care about their customers. All I ever get is an oil change and it takes 3 hours even with an appointment. They offer discounts on certain services but they don't apply it unless you ask them too and you have to show them a picture of the promotion that's LISTED ON THEIR WEBSITE! On my last visit they informed me I needed to change my cabin filter immediately and the costs was $85. I declined, went to AutoZone and bought a filter for $20 and changed it myself in two minutes. Karina Mlocek failed to mention over the phone they have over $2,000 in extra fee's without including state taxes and DMV fee's. $1250 if you "haven't bought a Honda from them in 2 years" and $1,000 for "custom pin striping" on a car with 0 pin striping added.. Antonio never introduced himself to us and proceeded to handle our whole interaction. He took 30 mins to grab the car, when it takes 5 minutes to grab a key and find the car ( I used to work at a dealership as well, I know it should not take that long. After our FAIR offer, they proceeded to try and keep us there, coming up with more fee's and other useless crap. 1350 for "insurance fee" when if you already have insurance it's covered anyways.) $200 for nitro fill, Costco has nitro air for free. THEY ARE JUST LOOKING TO WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HIDDEN ADDED FEE'S THAT THEY SAY ARE NOT HIDDEN, THEY'RE "ON THE WEBSITE" so it's your fault if you don't find that little disclaimer button on the website They don't even offer free water in the used car department!!!! The one that would get Keith disciplined for lying about it to me, making me drive the 40 miles out there to pick it up... The one that would IMMEDIATELY be taken down, because it was an HONEST mistake. .. Because that car was sold. No, it was a loaner. NO - it was in the lot for the managers to drive around in. THAT CAR was just sent to me again in a link. It is still up on the website a week later, to draw customers in. I wasn't the only one. There are others. Check the views. CLASSIC bait and switch. Was trying to sell my car, and got a KBB quote online. This is a service which quotes an estimate, and then puts you in touch with dealers who are meant to give you an offer in line with that, assuming the condition of the car matches what you submit. I called them before showing up because I didn't want to waste my time... the lady that I talked to assured me that they would do an inspection of my car (putting it on a lift) and give me an offer. So I made an appointment and showed up. Took over 10min before someone even came to get my key (FYI this whole process is meant to take 15-30min). Then I just waited a while. This whole time I can see my car sitting in the parking lot exactly where I had left it. Eventually one of the guys tells me that he doesn't have room for my car in his inventory. They knew the details about the car initially... the should not have wasted my time if they did not have the appetite for a porsche sports car. read more

I had a very frustrating experience over there. I was ready to make a fast, cash deal. I had left to think about the car and was then contacted about it the next day by a manager in the used car dept named Danny. I told him I was at work and to call back. He did not call back. I called a few days later and spoke with another manager who said he would have him call me. He did not. I called... again, left voicemail on his machine... he did not call back. I spoke with him briefly and proposed a deal. We were within $500 and he said he couldn't make a deal by leaving me a message. No conversation. Terrible service and experience. We unfortunately had an absolutely horrible experience from start to finish. Dealership did not stand up for the sold vehicle and never disclosed the issues we experienced. They made a few attempts to repair but were unsuccessful. Then they just washed their hands of it and said they are done with it. The managers initially tried to help but could not resolve. Then we made a post on website and CRM Manager advised us to contact her for resolution. That was a complete waste of time as she did nothing, offered nothing and again, washed their hands of it. Still would give zero stars if possible Got a text from the service department scheduling an appointment for October. Called to see if this was an error as I had been waiting almost a week for parts to arrive to correct the serious safety defect the car was sold with, despite being certified pre-owned. Service department rep said they were scheduling my courtesy oil change. I told her I plan on being in long before October for an oil change. I then inquired if the parts had arrived for my repair. After a brief hold she came back on and said yes the parts had arrived. I said, "Nice, did anybody plan on calling me to let me know?" This place is really this pits. I also never received ANY paperwork other than my temporary registration. I was told by the "finance" person I would get an email link to retrieve them and print myself. That email never arrived. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - THERE ARE MULTIPLE HONDA DEALERS WITHIN A 10-15 MILE RADIUS; GO TO ONE OF THEM. read more

I would not purchase another vehicle from here. My experience during COVID was easy and smooth can't say the same for my purchase 3- weeks ago. To say I was scammed and mislead is being kind. From my sales person A H to the sales manager, to the finance manager I sat down with only care about getting a sale and will do whatever to achieve it. Used to be a great dealership you could trust. Then was bought by a mega corporation: the service immediately went to hell, prices went through the roof, and integrity went out the window. Despite clearly stating that I was to be the primary owner and my sister the joint, it was done incorrectly. These are serious errors that should never happen during a car purchase.
