I've genuinely never felt more safe, heard, respected, and cared for, and thinking about it almost makes me want to tear up. I went in yesterday for a stressful procedure, and I can't say enough how everyone was so incredibly understanding and receptive, from the front desk receptionist, to the intake nurse that did my questioning, to the nurse that medicated me, to the NP that did my ultrasound, to the girl that guided me to and from the procedure room, all the way to the doctor that did my procedure (Dr. Rasmussen I think her name was, although don't quote me on that) Every single step of the way (a 4-6 hour visit btw), I felt so protected and accounted for. With a typical large healthcare chain like PP, you'd be nervous about the care you're about to receive. At least this would be the case for me, given the uncertainty about their working hours, pay, the amount of clients they see on a day-to-day basis, and how it affects their performance in the long run for future clients. But this PP has exceeded every single one of my expectations. I came in feeling down, nervous, and sick as a dog, and left feeling like they draped a warm fuzzy blanket over me. They were very communicative about my concerns and questions, and seemed like they understood everything I was saying. If these girls WERE having a bad day, you would NOT have been able to tell. Like, at all. I will genuinely remain forever grateful for the level of care I got here. If you guys are looking for a top quality PP clinic, please PLEASE consider this one (the Alameda) and the Mar Monte one. PROTECT THESE LADIES AT ALL COST!!! They're absolute sweethearts. read more

Genuinely don't come here. I had an important appointment scheduled to see a doctor and two days before the appointment they called to reschedule my appointment because "they couldn't see patients." I rescheduled my appointment to the next week. They then called me DAY OF to reschedule my already rescheduled appointment again for the same reasons! I finally make it in after 2x of them rescheduling me to find out they're 2 hours behind on patients!! How does this even happen?? I understand that sometimes things happen and doctors offices run behind but 2 hours is absolutely ridiculous. Worst part is this happens everytime I come, I always end up being seen at least 30 minutes after my appointment time. I had had enough with this location so I rescheduled to another location. SERIOUSLY don't come here. They are unprofessional, and clearly not organized enough to schedule properly. read more

I came in yesterday for my 3:00 PM appointment and ended up waiting nearly two hours to be seen, even though I was only about 10 minutes late. The front desk experience was unprofessional and confusing. The staff member assisting me was difficult to understand, and I felt like she was trying not to laugh at my confusion instead of helping me understand what was going on. When I was taken back by the medical assistant, she did not perform what I expected to be a standard intake. She only asked about my symptoms and did not review my medical history, medications, or other routine information. After I saw the provider, I was left even more confused. The medical assistant came into the room, handed me a prescription bottle, and left without explaining anything. I had to ask whether I had been diagnosed with something. When I asked if my diagnosis was an STD, she responded that she wasn't sure. I found that response very concerning, as I expected the staff to be able to explain my diagnosis and treatment. After leaving, I checked my patient portal hoping to find documentation about my diagnosis, test results, or a summary of my visit. Instead, there was no confirmation of what I had been diagnosed with or any documentation explaining my treatment. The only thing that appeared was an informational flyer. Overall, I left the appointment feeling confused, uninformed, and unsupported. I believe patients deserve clear communication about their diagnosis, medications, and treatment plan before leaving their appointment. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so that future patients receive the information and care they need. read more

I've been going to Planned Parenthood since I was a teenager, and now that I'm in the last year of my 20s, I really appreciate how supportive and informative they continue to be. As you get older, birth control and reproductive health decisions feel more complex, and the staff always take the time to explain options clearly and without judgment. Everything they guided me through when I was younger still adds up today, and I'm grateful for the consistent care over the years. I feel especially lucky to live in California, knowing not everyone has access to this level of care. The staff are always kind, patient, and professional, and they make the entire process easy to understand and stress-free. I felt like they actually cared about what they are doing and cared for the patients. I came to this Planned Parenthood location seeking care and was completely denied services despite having both Blue Shield HMO and Medi-Cal, which California law guarantees coverage for reproductive services, with no cost barriers. My insurance confirmed this clinic is contracted and in-network, yet the staff refused to even attempt billing Medi-Cal directly or provide ANY alternative option. They offered no guidance, no compassion, and no solution. I was essentially told, "We can't take you at all" and then dismissed. Even after I came back inside after getting off the phone with insurance. Instead of helping me navigate a simple billing issue which other PP affiliates handle without a problem this location left me without care, confused, and stuck in the middle of two coverages that SHOULD have protected me. They made me call my insurance myself, wasted my time, and acted like it wasn't their problem. Just kept telling me "I'm only reading what "PP insurance team"said on the screen. This is supposed to be a reproductive HEALTH organization. The way they handled this was everything but supportive. I left feeling stranded and completely unsupported during my need of care that felt sensitive to me. If their affiliate (Mar Monte) policy blocks patients like me, they should clearly disclose that up front instead of misleading patients into thinking they will be seen. came here on a saturday bc it's the only day i can get away from work & had an appointment scheduled for 2 weeks. i was 15 minutes late so i was told to wait since i basically lost my appointment... well in the 2.5 hours that i was there waiting, the nurse who said she was the manger in charge, didn't think to tell me that there were issues with my Medi-Cal. they had me waste my time sitting there, only to basically tell me there's nothing they can do about it & i have to call my providers.. it's a saturday!! most places are closed!!! it was already a super stressful situation & the nurse who i was dealing with had such a nasty attitude about it & didn't offer any type of help. she was talking to me like i was an inconvenience and being super condescending. y'all had 2 weeks to run my insurance and let me know if i had to take care of anything before coming in. instead i wasted hours of my day, only for one of your employees to treat me like an idiot when i was asking her what my options were. no type of emotional awareness. i have complained to medi-cal and reported the incident with her. people like that shouldn't be in healthcare. read more

This review is based on two aspects of Planned Parenthood: Emmanuel (one of the N.P.s at this location) and their phone system. Emmanuel (I may not have the correct spelling of his name) should not be involved in direct patient care. I have seen him twice and will not see him again. On my second visit with him I mentioned to him that he had made a mistake in my first visit and described the details of his mistake. His response was to be condescending and unapologetic. He was unwilling to take accountability for his error, which had cost me several hours of time and frustration. I believe that adults, particularly medical personnel who work with patients, should be able to acknowledge and apologize for their mistakes. Based on my experience with him, Emmanuel does not have the ability to do these things. I cannot recommend him. The phone system at Planned Parenthood is terrible. When you call the listed number for a particular location your call does not go to that location, it is routed to a central number for several locations. In addition to that, it takes several minutes working through a "phone tree" before you speak to a live person. This person is not at the location you were calling, and they are usually unable to answer questions about the location you are calling about. It is dishonest and disrespectful of Planned Parenthood to 1. post phone numbers for individual locations if those numbers do not actually ring to those locations, and 2. subject callers to minutes of button pressing - it would be so much more polite to simply have an actual person answer the phone. Yes, it is uncommon for companies nowadays to have real people answer their phones. That doesn't make it right, and I'm letting you know that Planned Parenthood is another company that does not respect or value their customer's time. read more

I really like this location. Tonight was my first time there. The person who did my paperwork/screening before the doctor was really friendly and nice and it would make me want to come back. His initials were EV-Iranian. If it wasn't a doctors office setting I totally would have asked him out. Lol. Regardless, very professional. Not too long of a wait. I liked the rock/laminate flooring. Just seemed cleaner than a lot of other locations I've been to before. I was out in less than an hour. Not too bad at all. read more

Misfortune of mine that this is the closest one to my home. But I will be traveling to the marmont location because this location consistently has rude receptionists. Nurse practitioners that lie and tell you you cannot have your birth control because I need to come in for a breast exam....I decline. I shouldn't be forced a service that I'm declining so they keep my birth control from me because of that. Dismissive and they force treatment for you to get what you ask for. No thank you I want a place that I feel safe in and heard. I call back and they say that was never said I just hung up....now why would I hang up when I made the appointment for myself for birth control? It's funny she said that that was never said but then the story changed and I could come and pick up my birth control after the first nurse practitioner started this whole thing because she said I couldn't. Sounds like their lies got caught up. But these ladies have awful customer service when being declined or disagreed with. The patient isn't the priority here their egos are. Don't get me started about the time I was on a examination table and they had three students watching and laughing while I cried and told them to leave. The woman in the front is very rude and unprofessional. I received a procedure, was quoted to be done around 5:45pm. Ended up finishing a bit earlier and was still feeling uneasy/ under sedation. Nursing team was very sweet. However, when 5pm approached the woman from the front told me " you can wait outside there's a chair" while I was very, dizzy, in pain and wobbly ( it was also raining) since my ride hadn't arrived. I explained that the woman earlier quoted a different time. It's to my understanding that PP does not send people home without a trusted person when they have received sedation. Unfortunately, I was forced to call an Uber, since I could not wait outside in the dark rain alone while feeling this way. PP should make patients feel comfortable and be caring. This is the opposite of how I left feeling. It's unfortunate as a lot of people rely on PP for many things. There were other issues in the initial meeting as well which caused a lot more stress during an already stressful time. read more

UPDATE: I was willing to give the health center another chance, as I urgently need to reschedule my appointment. However I was told that the "scheduling coordinator is not available, but she will call you either later today, or at the latest tomorrow to schedule your next appointment." I never received any phone call from Planned Parenthood to schedule this urgent appointment and it has been 5 days. If you don't have insurance and want to get a free annual exam, come here. Newly remodeled and much better service than before. The place is always busy here, but the best times and dates are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays first thing in the morning or LATE in the evening after 5pm. Sucks about their drop-in hours and dates, but I don't mind. They try to accommodate you and your availability. The service herelet me say that the girl in the front is VERY RUDE. The rest of the staff was very helpful and informative about your health if you have any questions. I am thankful that I have a place to fall back on when I lose my insurance. They offer free condoms, birth control, annual exams, pregnancy testing, etc. Parking can be a b*tch so they need to remodel that and make it more sizeable for the amount of patients you see each day. read more

This location has to be the worse I've attended to, and will be the last time I come in. Very unprofessional, I missed work to be on time for my 11:15 appointment, and arrived at 11 so they tell me my insurance doesn't cover it, fine no problem, I paid out of my pocket, and they were very quick on charging me asap. They then told me to take a seat, as I was waiting several walk ins came in, and were helped, I noticed I was the first and last person waiting. I then approached the front desk, and was asked to wait a couple minutes more, I had to go back to work and asked for a refund. I understand sometimes appointments are backed up, but having an appointment and not being seen after an hours is unacceptable. If you're looking to get an ultrasound here, do not come here you will be seen two hours after your appointment! read more

I came in today and had an appointment to get my nexplanon removed and a new one put in. Although there was a long wait to be seen, all the staff that I talked to and that helped me were amazing, super nice and informative - didn't even make me mad about the wait time. These workers work long/hard hours and planned parenthood in general is very understaffed so you can't always blame them. No protestors when I went which was a relief and parking there is great! Before taking my nexplanon out she even asked me if I wanted to listen to music! Never had anyone asked me that before (this is my third nexplanon), and I was fine without but I thought that was super nice bonus because I know for some the procedure is harder. I went here with stomach problems. I had just switched insurers, and the idiots over at Blue Shield sent me here on the wrong day, to see the wrong doctor. It didn't matter - the staff here, particularly Lizabelle and Veronica, worked dilligently to check for cancelled appointments to fit me in. They began calling other appointment holders to see if they were coming. While I waited, they even brought me juice and cookies. JUICE AND COOKIES. It might seem like only a small kindness, but 1) I was legit hungry, and 2) I had spent three hours the previous day on the phone trying to get a doctors appointment for my stomach on a day I could take off from work. I was sick and exhausted. I was able to see the doctor and get my stomach bug taken care of. The for-profit medical industrial complex couldn't get making an appointment right. For profit medicine sucks. Planned Parenthood isn't in it for the money - they care about connecting people with medical care above money. Hooray for Planned Parenthood! and Lizabelle and Veronica! This place is cracking like almost every hour of the business day, can never find decent parking here, unless you spare yourself the trouble and just take the bus. Love the face-lift they've done with the place because this time it doesn't scream out "ab- - - - - - clinic up in yo hood!!!" instead it has the look of a normal clinic, like the way it's meant to portray before it became rundown. Anywho, tons of memories have been produced here during my high school age at this location starting with my bc pill at 17 (they have a patient-privacy policy stating they can't tell mum and dad) then decided that I'd rather have my yearly done here instead of at the Alum Rock location because of two things: 1) bigger waiting room area, and it didn't feel like I'm babysitting other people's kids while waiting for the nurse to yell out my name. 2) front desk service carries a bit more class (yes believe it) and show helluvalot more respect for you. My waltz with different b.c. had to stop because now I'm fairly settled with Kaiser and my mother-dear's perception of her little angel shattered ages ago when she found a little something something along with the secret stash of 'doms from PP (and no they're not flavored, but at least they're free) so I no longer needed to hide the fact that I was having es ee ex. Gonna admit it though, I felt extremely filthy after each visit, so I always went home to take a warm shower. God knows where all THOSE people have been - including me. Yeesh! Lots of resources for those who need it, and help for those who are low-income. read more

If I could score a 0 I would. I had an appointment at 10am it's now 1031. When I asked at 1020 when my appointment was the reception was very dry and unfriendly told me to wait another 10 min. Still waiting. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The doctors are even worse they sit around socializing instead of doing there appointments.
