My husband and I just got married last week at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. In the final month before the wedding, our original event rental company began bringing up some last-minute issues--things we had already agreed upon since the beginning of our contract. First, they suddenly said they didn't want to hang our paper lanterns. Then they changed their mind and said they would, but it would cost $30 per lantern--even though the lanterns themselves cost only about $2 each! I had done my homework and knew that other companies, including Platinum was quoting $2.50/lantern, so we were pretty shocked by the price. Second, just a week before the wedding, they informed us that they needed additional setup time, which would have forced us to pay an extra $1,400 to rent the venue for longer. At that point, I decided to shop around for other quotes. Our DJ recommended Platinum, and I was astonished to find that they were nearly $2,000 cheaper than our original event rental company--mainly because our caterer had been adding an extra 22% operational fee and 7.75% sales tax on top of the rentals. I worked directly with Sydney from Platinum, double-checked for any hidden fees, and she assured me there were none. So a quick tip for other couples: you may want to have your wedding coordinator work directly with the event rental company instead of going through the caterer, as the caterer may be adding unnecessary upcharges. We made the switch to Platinum the Tuesday before the wedding, and Sydney and her team did a phenomenal job. We were thoroughly impressed, especially given the last-minute change. Everything was on time, there were absolutely no issues, and the setup was so seamless that none of our guests even noticed the transitions. The courtyard looked absolutely stunning with the market lights and all 40 lanterns. Thank you so much to Sydney and the team for helping make our day so perfect. I'm really disappointed in our experience. We reached out about a month before a baby shower (which had to be moved up due to a very sad and poor prognosis for the mother of the mom to be). I was pleased that Cristin communicated so quickly via email. I was disappointed they couldn't deliver but understood due to the short time frame. We got our order squared away but that's where the positives end. My husband picked up on a Friday and was given the wrong color linens. Since he didn't place the order he wasn't aware they were wrong until he got home. I immediately called and emailed and my attempts to contact went unanswered. I called and left two more messages that evening. Saturday morning first thing I called again and the response I got was "you can go pickup the correct ones if you want." I'm sorry WHAT? This is such a poor way to handle YOUR mistake. I fully expected they would have been delivered. They knew we lived about a half hour from their warehouse. So after another hour round trip I got the correct linens. Upon beginning set up for the event we were absolutely appalled. One of the tables had legs caked in mud (which was then annoyingly tracked throughout my home) and the other had gum stuck under it (so if they claim to be cleaning during COVID they're full of it) and the cap to a leg missing, resulting in a very wobbly table. Nearly every chair was covered in dirt, grime or rust. Many were missing the caps on the legs making them either wobble or scratch the heck out of my floors. I get that these things are used but come on, I'm renting white chairs that are half orange from rust. It's beyond tacky. Even worse is knowing they screwed up the order then made us drive out to correct it, Cristin didn't apologize or reach out to make sure it was rectified. We recently had our wedding on 4/16/22 after two postponements due to covid (read three different wedding dates). Throughout the process, platinum was very easy to work with and communicative. They were professional and were there with each postponement which made postponing the wedding less stressful. The equipment rented (chairs, tables, bar tables, market lighting, heating furnaces, draping, etc.) were in great condition and everything looked pristine. We had a couple questions over the items listed in the contract and they went over it in detail with us. The only thing we would have changed is we tried to pay the remaining portion of our bill (to stagger the last payments) however it took awhile for someone to charge the remaining portion to clear our account. Other than that we had no issues! (Of note for the original wedding date in 2020, we were going to do some of our rentals with Best Rentals/Mario Hernandez as we were going to split the draping/lighting with the Saturday couple to help decrease wedding costs. However with the postponements, Mario stopped responding to our emails and we lost the $600 we put in to split with the other wedding couple... Our Platinum Concierge was Sarah Fye. She was amazing in all facets of our trip. Prior to the weekend stay, Sarah reached out frequently to make sure everything was in order. From booking tee times, brokering car services, and taking groceries orders priority to move in, Sarah was always available to help. Which made planning a trip for 16 people a less stressful ordeal. When my first car service cancelled on my 2 weeks before WMO, Sarah help find a new car service, even offering an option of having an employee of Platinum to drive my group if I was unable to find a replacement. Renting properties for a short weekend duration are never without their issues. But I do recommend Platinum Rentals, especially with someone like Sarah. I had been very enthusiastic about working with PER prior to how things turned out. Holly, who I was working with initially, was very helpful, but she left for vacation and our event was assigned to Sydney. Sydney was great at first, especially given our attempts at planning an outdoor event during a historic storm... but then appeared to lose patience. She told me that the hard deadline to place an order was 2pm that day - before we would even be able to meet with the venue owner. Assuming I'd be able to modify the order, as we were still over a week out, as per the contract, I signed the order. It was only then that I found out it was impossible to make any modifications, and I was stuck with the order without it having been clarified that that was the case! Not having checked in with Sydney, Holly returned from vacation the following day asking if I'd still like to move forward on the order. That's when I realized that the deadline imposed by Sydney was entirely arbitrary. She could absolutely have given me until the meeting with the venue owner in the morning, but didn't want to and pressured me into finalizing the order before I was prepared. I feel like Platinum Rentals took advantage of the situation and coerced me into an order I was not prepared to make. Based on that alone, I would never recommend. However, the some of rentals themselves were in poor condition and we were not able to use them. I am very dissatisfied. read more

The week of our wedding, we learned that the vendor that we originally booked to do the backdrop didn't actually have us confirmed in their books. After a bit of panic, we remembered that our coordinator had recommended Platinum Events for any rentals needs. We emailed them with a description of what we needed. They responded right away with photos of what they could provide. I had wanted a particular look with draping and they said that they could do it! I think we finalized our order the Thursday before our wedding. We also decided to hang up parasols from the ceiling in the cocktail room and the Platinum Events team was able to do it! Even with a last minute order, the prices were reasonable and there was no additional late fees! On the day of the wedding, I was still at the hotel getting ready while they were setting up at the venue so I didn't get to meet the team personally. My sister and my cousin who were there said that they were so meticulous. They spent so much time making sure it looked exactly like what I had asked for. When I walked into the room, I was very impressed with the backdrop! It looked better than what I had wanted! It worked oso perfectly for our Cambodian wedding ceremony. They did such a great job. We had a great experience using Platinum Event Rentals for our wedding rentals. Platinum was very flexible and accommodating for us (thank you Sydney!) throughout the entire wedding planning process. These accommodations include: wedding postponement due to covid, adding & removing items from our order just a couple of weeks before the event, delivering to multiple locations (2 sites in the same venue, for ceremony and reception). We ordered exact pickup and delivery times; Platinum was right on schedule!! They did a great job with all the setup and cleanup, and worked well with our coordinator. A couple of recommendations for your own wedding: -We rented the white basic arch. Looks boring on their website but we spruced it up with a garland of fake leaves & flowers from Hobby Lobby. My fiancee booked P.E.R. for our wedding and Sydney Evert was TRULY a pleasure to work with. I had many (dumb) questions and she never came across as condescending or abrasive. We had an event where we rented from here and it was a mediocre experience. The delivery was scheduled between 12 and 4 and they arrived at my home at 1030am. I had to leave work early which was very stressful and agitating. When they came the set up and delivery was fine but they brought the wrong color linen. When I called to tell them, they told me that since it was so last minute they didn't have many choices, and the person on the phone, Sydney, was very rude and unhelpful. I ordered charcoal and the brought light gray. They found charcoal linens out of storage that did not look charcoal in color at all. I told them that the picture on the website did not accurately represent the color and they told me that the website has a disclaimer and that it was likely my phone and computer settings. Sydney was rude and unhelpful about the situation so I spoke with Kristen. She was more helpful and eventually they did get a nice gold color that was higher quality which they substituted in place. It was not a smooth process and I had to get upset before it was rectified. We then had to accommodate a second delivery later in the day. We also ordered a bounce house for our children and half way through the party one of the blowers stopped working. Kids were still inside the bounce house at the time. It was not good and after trouble shooting a defective button, we were able to get it to work again but not at full capacity. I told Kristen and she said that it was probably an electoral issue and did not take responsibility for the fact that the jump house was not properly inflated for half the party. She said that no compensation would be offered. For pick up they texted me and said there truck broke down and would not be able to get to our home at the pick up time and that they would come after 4pm or the next day. Then later they changed it again and said they would come at the original time. This is all very difficult if you have a job and made plans to accommodate pick up and delivery. Overall, I would say it was a very mediocre experience at best. See the email I received from this company Hello, I have seen the Yelp review and I just wanted to do a follow up email with you. Regarding the linens- we did send you charcoal linens. The fabric does vary in shade from dye lot to dye lot, and the more a linen is used/washed the lighter it gets. I apologize that you expected a darker shade. We did what we could to assist you day of- unfortunately most of our linens are stored off site so we do not have a lot to choose from in house. We did find you the exact shade of charcoal that is depicted on our website, and you said that was not sufficient either. I thought in the end we were able to rectify the situation by sending you $35.00 linens at no additional cost. Regarding the Blowers- I personally checked them when they came back and they are both in fine working order. there is no faulty button , and they blow perfectly fine. I have a strong feeling that you overloaded the circuit that they were plugged into. Being that this was not any fault of ours or our equipment, I did not feel that a refund was necessary. We also do have an emergency line for any issues with the equipment, and I did not receive any phone calls day of , otherwise I would have sent someone over there to assist. I am very sorry that things did not go smoothly during your event but I do feel that we did everything we could to rectify any issue you had. The one star review is in very poor taste as I feel it is definitely unwarranted. I was disappointed in my experience with Platinum - their equipment has definitely seen better days. The two patio heaters I received were so beat up looking that I was embarrassed to use them. I called and to their credit, they delivered new ones within a couple of hours. When setting up tables, we discovered that many no longer actually locked and the chafing dishes were dented, many with partially melted handles. I understand that rental equipment is used by many people and there is a certain amount of wear and tear to be expected, but Platinum also needs to know when to retire their stock. I normally give 5 stars, but there were a few things that rubbed me the wrong way about this company. 1. Someone came out to measure my floor for a dance floor and gave me the dimensions of getting a 12x12. When they came to put the floor down it was not what we anticipated nor the length that we thought we were getting. Mind you we told the lady how much of the floor we wanted covered and she told us a 12x12 would work. We went with what she said, but again wasn't big enough for us. 2. The dance floor was not up to standard and the men dropping it off stated that to me and I agreed. When I called in to express my concerns about both things I ended talking to a really rude lady named Jen. She talked to me like I was some kid who didn't understand basic math. I was very upset with her as we exchanged words and got fed up and asked to speak to the manager. She was a lot nicer and ended up trying to resolve the situation. When I expressed to her about the dance floor she offered to fix it, but they didn't have any more of the color I needed, so I ended up having to have a checkered white and black floor instead of all black which didn't match my decor. She offered a 10% discount for the inconvenience which isn't much, but I took it. 3. One of the black linen pieces that I received was badly discolored from the sun. Good thing the party was at night, so it wasn't as noticeable. If I wouldn't have talked to the lady Jen I'm sure my experience could have been a lot better and handled more professionally first time around. The wedding coordinator had another local event rental company but wasn't too confident in recommending them. My wife and I used this company for our wedding this past weekend that we hosted in our backyard. Pros: Once the rental items were all set up, the backyard really did look pretty awesome. Cons: Cleanup after the initial setup was non-existent. There were dozens of cut zip ties from the canopy that had been set up that were left scattered throughout the yard. Upon pickup the following day, the company was 40 minutes late beyond the contracted time frame. We had signed a contract stating they'd be here anywhere from 9AM - 1PM, and they never bothered to call to let us know they were running late. Being the day after our wedding that we had at our personal home, the last thing we wanted to do the next day was wait around all day for them to get here and break down their materials. Because they showed up late, they were here until almost 4PM, pretty much wiping out our plans we had for that day. Upon their arrival, the driver hit the corner of our house backing down the driveway! He acknowledged that he hit the house, and said I could call and speak with the company. After the company had finished and left, it was discovered that there was broken glass scattered in multiple spots from the string lights they had carelessly let break. The canopy we rented from Platinum Event Rentals had come with string lights, which looked awesome during the evening. But when they carelessly took them down and allowed some to break, never said anything and never cleaned it up, this became a serious issue for concern. We have a dog and he could have easily been cut from stepping on the shards of glass in the back. Being that this was a holiday weekend, I could understand why I wouldn't have received any returned calls or emails until today. I did receive a response from the salesperson who we had been working with for our event, who mentioned that a manager would be getting in touch with me today. However, I never heard back from anyone at the company. Given that the company was late, hit my house, left trash before the event, after the event, and left broken glass, I feel very generous giving the 2 stars that they received from me. The materials were good and the canopy with string lights made the wedding look great, so I will give some credit where it is due. Update: I had been contacted by a representative for the company. There was some back and forth negotiations to amend the transgressions, but in the end, Platinum Events took the necessary steps to make things right. In the end, I stand by Platinum Events and would recommend them for future events. read more

After many unprofessional remarks, and the desire to keep tacking on fees repeatedly out of nowhere, about 2 weeks before our actual wedding we decided to see who else was out there, and if they would be able to accommodate us on such short notice. We found Platinum, and looked at their online inventory and pricing and asked ourselves why we didn't go with them in the first place? An oversight? Perhaps our own foolishness in not meeting with more than one rental company in person? Who knows. Anyway I emailed Platinum to get a quote and instantly started working with Carrie, who was absolutely wonderful. I explained our displeasure with our current company and asked if they'd be able to accommodate us on such short notice, and she said yes, but that we should make sure we hadn't signed a contract or given a deposit to the other company. We hadn't (Score!), even though it was 2 weeks before our wedding...(another red flag as to the professionalism of the OTHER rentals place we were working with). I met Carrie in the showroom, looked at everything, she even took me into the warehouse to show me various things we were renting that weren't in the showroom. Overall the customer service was stellar. Even when we had questions, or we wanted to make a payment, if Carrie wasn't available, someone else on the staff helped us and was very knowledgeable about our order. On top of that for less than what we were going to pay with the other rental company, we actually ended up getting a bigger bang for our buck.
