We called for a minor sound related refrigerator issue and ultimately had to replace our refrigerator after repeated failed repairs out of pocket and without refund from the Platinum Factory Service.
We originally contacted this company as a KitchenAid/Whirlpool authorized service provider for one issue on our refrigerator:
- a ghost-touch/control panel issue causing a beeping sound
At the time, both our refrigerator and freezer were still functioning and preserving food properly.
Over the course of four months, we paid this company close to $700 in diagnostics, labor, parts, and repair fees based on the technician's diagnosis and assurances that the repairs would resolve the problem.
Unfortunately, the original issues were never resolved. After repeated service visits involving work behind the refrigerator panel and wiring, our freezer stopped functioning entirely. Shortly after additional repair work, the refrigerator also stopped maintaining safe temperatures and caused flooding in our kitchen, resulting in nearly $600 in spoiled groceries.
We personally witnessed wiring being manipulated immediately before these failures occurred and were later informed that the original repairs had not resolved the issue.
At that point, we were left without a usable refrigerator for our family and ultimately had no choice but to purchase a completely new refrigerator out of pocket.
In addition to paying this company for unsuccessful repairs, we were also forced to spend additional money replacing a refrigerator that had still been functioning before these attempted repairs began with Platinum Factory Service.
Beyond the repair issues themselves, communication throughout the process was extremely frustrating. We often waited weeks for updates regarding repair status, refund discussions, and next steps, despite repeatedly following up. We were initially told the company could not refund us because they believed KitchenAid was providing us with a free replacement refrigerator. That information was incorrect. We still had to pay KitchenAid a significant amount out of pocket for the replacement refrigerator after months without reliable refrigeration for our family. After informing the company this was not a free replacement, we were then told our refund request would need to be reevaluated but at the CEO level.
The company has only offered to refund the parts cost ($200) despite the failed repairs, worsening appliance condition after service, food loss, flooding, and replacement costs that followed, in total costing us +$2,000. This partial refund was also only offered after we officially reported them to the Better Business Bureau, who have notified us they have an active case open with Platinum Factory Service due to the issues we experienced and complaint we filed. This is still ongoing.
This review is specifically about our experience with the repair process, repeated unsuccessful diagnoses, worsening issues after service, lack of communication throughout the process, and the handling of the situation afterward. I would not recommend using this company for any services. If you are currently using them, I would strongly encourage customers to document everything carefully and seek second opinions before approving ongoing repairs.
Please note, photos attached are showing temperature inside Freezer (over 40 degrees Fahrenheit) along with completely thawed frozen dog food that we had to throw away along with all other groceries. Temperature of refrigerator was room temperature at this time and never dropped below again. read more
