This home healthcare group has been a godsend. The nature of needing homecare assistance is often…read moresudden and unexpected. To have a healthcare group that can assist to calm the waters while providing excellent service, is much appreciated. Most will have health care challenges for a family member at some point, be it after-surgery care or caring for an elder. Many people would wish to keep the patient at home, but real fears exist. Ables Homecare has quality staff who can provide assistance. You may well learn that keeping a family member at home is possible with another pair of willing hands to assist in the home. The Coordinator of this homecare service is a lovely man, calming and reassuring. He follows through to ask for feedback as to the Providers' progress with the patient. He has consistently provided quality providers who treat the patient with respect. That would begin most simply with greeting the patient--they do that at the start of every appointment session. It's simple things like not talking down to the patient, a provider who values hand-washing and does not have idle cellphone conversations 'on the job', those things raise the level of confidence in care. I have a few times given Ables the option to come, having only given short notice. Each time, Ables complied. One appreciates that flexibility. Families can begin the journey of caring for a loved one at home when there is skilled help to work alongside. Try Ables. We feel fortunate to have found Ables. We've not had to have faced that Long Ride Home after a nursing home visit. No such worry. No such guilt.....that is, when you have skilled assistance in the form of Ables Home Healthcare. Able's will make you believe that quality is still available, this is an excellent home healthcare business.

When Musa Bangura came into our lives my father had just been discharged from a rehabilitation…read morefacility and needed full time care for the first time in his life. He was 92 and resentful about his new frailty and the entire idea of a live-in caregiver. He cherished his freedom, living alone in the house my sister and I grew up in. I knew it had to be done, but I had not-great expectations about how they were going to get along, given how prickly my father was at the time. I've had excellent help from Capital City Nurses for both of my elderly in-laws, so I figured there was hope. Musa cared for my father for more than a year. He treated my father the way I would imagine he'd treat his own father - with love and respect and tenderness and humor. They formed a bond that I still don't fully understand. Musa loved my father, and I know for a fact that my father loved him. Over a year of steady decline, the one constant in our lives - the reason my sister and I could get up and go to work everyday - was the knowledge that our father was in excellent hands. My father needed hospice care for the last week of his life. It was clear that this was the end, and my sister and I were upset. Nobody is ready to lose their beloved father, not even children in their fifties. Again, Musa did everything he could not just for my dad but for us. He helped us understand what was happening. Most important for us, he made sure we had ample notice so we could be there with my father when he died. For the rest of my life I will be grateful for that. We were so upset, but Musa (who was also upset) tended to my father's body right up to the end and beyond, making sure that he was perfectly clean and cared for. As far as I can tell, Musa never stopped looking at my dad as a human being (not just a job) and acted accordingly. Frankly, it's difficult for me to believe that it's possible to hire someone like Musa at any price. But apparently it's true. Now that my father is gone, I assume Musa will be looking for a new client after some much-needed time off. Please let this letter serve as an introduction and recommendation. I think Musa himself would tell you that I am not always the easiest person to understand or get along with. I don't think I've really grasped that my dad is no longer with us after 93 years; he was a fighter. But he had a good death, and a good life, all the way through, thanks to Musa. Anyone who hires him as a caregiver will be very lucky indeed.

Danielle S was very nice, and I would be happy for her to come again. It sounds like she has good experience for the role. We had one incident where she took out 3 colors of play dough and was making shapes with the stamps......... ON THE CARPET. She didn't realize she was creating the marks (leaving play dough stuck in the carpet) and didn't realize it was a carpet (she said she thought it was a play mat). I think we all make mistakes. She apologized. She didn't blame my son. He has never done play dough anywhere on the floor or carpet, and never used more than one color. I read on the internet that one needs to wait for it to dry before trying to remove it. I contacted the company later that day and very politely asked "what are we going to do about it if it doesn't come off?" The admin lady blamed my child knowing nothing about the situation. She said the kid probably told her to do it... and more blaming things, which were completely not true. She said she would speak to a supervisor and get back to me. She, nor anyone did get back with me. That's very unprofessional with not covering for your employee's mistake, and getting back to me.

We found a neighbor to start a nanny share with and then dove head first into scouring the internet/care.com to find a nanny. What an overwhelming process! Then we found Philia and it just seemed too good to be a true - an organization that finds the nanny for you? That does all the pre-check work (background checks, interviews)? That handles all the administrative end of nannying (workers comp, insurance, payroll taxes)? How could it get better? Well it does. After a few emails with owner Kira, and then our initial in-person meeting, my husband and I were thrilled. Kira is passionate about her company and the services Philia offers and her response time & customer service are top notch. We have already met with and secured a nanny for our soon-to-be-arriving first child all thanks to Kira & Philia. Kira listens to your needs and wants and then she provides you with nannies that fit the bill. She takes SO MUCH of the time & stress out of nanny searching and we really couldn't be happier that we have started working with them for our childcare. Philia really, truly is DC's best kept secret right now!

There are musical performances and other cultural and healthful activities. It's difficult for anyone to adjust to a new environment, and even more so for an elderly person with dementia. The Kensington Park staff do their best to welcome and acclimate new residents - which, with the added problem of Covid, is a challenge. They are kind and attentive, dealing with irritability and other behaviors with grace and patience. The management is very open to communication from family members and every issue is addressed.
