I interviewed two planners, and I knew I wanted Vicky right away because I was confident that she could get the job done. She didn't want to be my best friend--she wanted to help us achieve the wedding of our dreams while staying under budget. When we were deciding on what services we wanted her to take care of, she showed us this very detailed list of services, kind of like an a la carte menu. We wanted to keep our wedding planner services at $3000 I think, and so we basically picked and chose which things we wanted her to do. SO SIMPLE. No negotiating necessary. After that, she made it feel like our wedding was the only wedding she was working on. Such attention to detail, with a balance of her suggestions and getting our input so that it would still be our wedding. She was honest and straightforward about what she thought were bad ideas, which made us trust in the things that she was excited about and thought were great ideas. Vicky just has so much experience that--really--every little tiny detail was taken care of, so that on the day of our wedding, all we had to do was get our hair and makeup done and show up at the wedding. (My husband and the groomsmen were actually bored the day of our wedding!) The weeks before the wedding, my friends--who know that I get stressed out managing dinner reservations--were amazed to see me so stress-free! Lastly, and maybe I should've opened with this, as soon as we booked all of our vendors, I knew that the cost of having Vicky as our wedding planner paid for itself. I decided to check with my dear friend Google to see if he knew of a good wedding planner. I found 3 or 4 options and sent out an email to all, a couple responses consisted of the generic automated kick back email. I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to my first (of many) voicemails from Grace. She sounded so sweet, organized, and ready to get started. It was this initial contact that really made me feel like this company cared to make a good first impression and we set up the interview. Our first meeting with Grace was wonderful, she left us feeling confident that we could really plan and execute the wedding we wanted within our short time frame. From that day on, Grace worked diligently. She quickly gained an understanding of our likes and dislikes, which is so important when using a planner. She was able to weed out and narrow down my options without me always being there to offer input. I spoke with Grace on a daily basis, she was always updating, asking questions, or simply wishing me a good day! She bad-mouthed the previous owner, which was extremely unprofessional. They also promised my wedding albums would be done in 8 weeks, but it actually took another month longer. The albums came out horribly, with repeat pictures; they would not let me choose which pictures went into the album. My thank you cards that were printed had the names spelled wrong. The good thing was that Hera Total Wedding found me a good place for the wedding and good price even though I only had 80 guests. Then they always look out for me and provided help when I was having struggles with wedding; I called Hera Total Wedding many times and they were always available and they worked so hard to make the wedding I wanted. For the rehearsal, they came and walked through me so I did not even need a wedding planner. On the wedding day, there were no mistakes at all, it was perfect. Also, the make-up artist followed me everywhere (from the beginning to the end) so I was very relieved.

We had to make the argument with our parents to not just assign these responsibilities to a relative instead of hiring a professional. It wasn't until the wedding day that they realized just how invaluable it was for us to have Katie there to support us and essentially run the show. In the words of my mother, "You were a God-send -- we would have been screwed without you there." After working for years for other companies managing events, Katie recently broke off to start her own wedding planning company, Pure Whimsy Events, so her prices are really reasonable. She also goes above and beyond for her clients, which is what we were told from an acquaintance who had hired her for their wedding in Fall 2013. Katie helped us keep everything organized and on time in the planning process, and referred several vendors to us including the transportation (which was much less expensive than others we'd looked into). While trying to keep everything straight and organized, I started feeling like I was losing my mind - but Katie was there to keep my head on straight (and in turn, my husband's). She reviewed contracts for us and called out anything that might seem abnormal. She created a detailed timeline for the day-of, was on time for ALL of our meetings (either one-on-one or with vendors), and of course made sure we had everything we needed throughout our wedding day - even offering to buy me coffee in the morning Unfortunately, she ran into several snags throughout the day but she still kept a smile on her face and got the job done. She even managed to get us an Uber car (the planned getaway car for us), which was really difficult on our wedding night considering it was the same night as the White House Correspondent's Dinner, and Uber was providing the transportation for them. Katie is sweet, enthusiastic, meticulously organized and hard working. It doesn't matter how simple your wedding is, I would suggest hiring Katie to help keep you sanity throughout the process and also so you don't have to worry about anything on the wedding day except enjoying it. She also knows when to crack the whip with vendors to make sure they deliver on their promises, which is not always easy to do. Lauren (company owner) refused to return the retainer fee and stated she would "reach out to other people on the team to see if they were willing to give up their part of the retainer due to the situation." She then replied a few days later that nobody was willing to do so, which we since have found out she never actually asked her staff that question, only told them that we "cancelled." I would never recommend a company like this, it was shady from the get go. Please save yourself time and money and find a better company to arrange your wedding. I am writing reviews about this place everywhere possible, word needs to get out about this business. We also plan to follow with a lawsuit. Trust me, save yourself the headache of working with a business that is run like this.
