The beer was like $9 thats super insane to me for a 4.7% can but thats the world we live in. The little store that they have for their merch has a great selection. I wanted to look around but it is super packed. Fun fact my father attended this school back in the 50s, wild times. Make sure you check out their basement, you wont be disappointed.

Walking through the halls bring back flashbacks of school. Yikes. Thank goodness no detention for me. Started on the third floor which someone recommended and go down the various floors. Sorry folks- I just don't get it. Yes, it's contemporary art with the kitchen sink thrown in. No rhyme nor reason how things are placed out and displayed. There were sections and corridors but miss the connection or its all a disconnect and chaos. We- the beholder figures it out by ourselves I suppose. I try to look at the tabs with description to get a better understanding of what the artist is trying to tell us. Trying to figure out what is the meaning of your masterpiece. There are gender neutral restroom on every floor. So do not be surprise when both women go on line and come out of the bathroom. All of the sudden rain and thunder everyone from the Summer Fest comes into the museum for safety. Staff directs everyone to the second floor which is a huge room (Auditorium or Gym) people waiting for the thunderstorm to dissipate. It get so hot and humid with all the body heat but it's better than standing out in the hallway. Staff trying to figure out which exit to let out patrons. Yes, I would come back again to MoMA PS1 again. Cause displays of various exhibits do change.

Part of the Smithsonian system, they often have new and interesting exhibitions and, as I've said before, it's less crowded and more laid back. This time there was a piece on sound, it was like a sound bath, and it wasn't my vibe. But what I did find super interesting was the exhibit on production and industrial machines and the people who work on them. I had no idea there were 13 foot tall tires or that one regular man gets inside of them (with the inner rim of the tire coming to his chest) to prepare them for distribution. I thought it was some sort of weird art for a minute, before realizing it was a genuine photograph. I loved seeing all the electronics, large hydraulic systems, weaving apparatuses, and factory settings. It really makes you think about all that goes into making our daily lives livable, that we take for granted. It also had me feeling a true sense of appreciation for the people who do these niche jobs, many of which are a dying craft. This is always a great value. I'm not sure why there are some reviews knocking it. Maybe with today's overstimulation and short attention spans, the vibe is just too chill for them. *shrug*

Came here's on a class trip. It was really nice to see pictures and art work of how things are made…read morein America, or just in general. It did entertain the students because they even had a chance to see beautiful details of pictures from, pencils and hats being made. They had the opportunity to even feel the inside of what a hat is made of and they learned about different kinds of materials. It was a very educational visit to where I would want to return on my own time. The pictures are really beautiful and interesting. Entry is like…read more$15 for adults, so a skosh less than you'd pay at a bigger museum, but just a bit more than I'd personally pay for the size of this place. If you have like a senior or kid's discount, or a student (?) discount, it would be worth it though. Museum is 2 floors, and fully jam packed with stuff to look at. Every room you go into has either posters from various eras, and/or explanations of the context for those posters, so you're not just appreciating the art in a vacuum. What I liked is that even on a Saturday afternoon, the place was relatively quiet and empty, so we were able to wander around and look at all the cool stuff mostly undisturbed. Bathrooms are spotlessly clean. Cafe is cute and has lots of little chairs to sit on and take a load off before you go exploring further. As of right now, they have a retrospective on black cinema, from the silent films to the black and white films to the technicolor films. There are posters for minstrel shows, posters for "All colored" (AKA, all black and brown people in the cast, so that unwitting racists don't wander in there and clutch their pearls over seeing brown and black folks not playing the parts of servants) casts, and even a couple of displays of paraphernalia from the era, such as blackface pancake makeup/greasepaint used on stage and film. The entrance to the space has these posters from the Czechoslovakia tourism board to come visit their country at the dawning of their founding. These were gorgeous posters, some of which mentioned the 60 2/3 % discount off the return journey ticket. I have no clue what the significance of that amount is. They were facing the gift shop, so while that person or persons you came with go look at tchotchkes , bric-a-brac, and curios long past when they should realize that they can buy most of the stuff online and not have to lug it around the city, you have some more stuff to look at. Mind you, the prints, postcards, and other reproductions of the posters are not something you can easily buy online. That's worth the trip to the gift shop if you like that sort of thing as decoration. The prints are on good quality paper, and the colors are crisp and well laid down. They're absolutely beautiful. At $1.50 per post card, you're paying a bit of money, but these are really beautiful and worthy of display. In the basement level, there's a large exhibition of war propaganda posters encouraging folks to donate books to the boys overseas (or "over there" as they called it repeatedly). Several soldiers would read in their spare time when they had long bouts of hurry up and wait. This was especially true of the navy people. They'd have long stretches of quiet where they'd read to pass the time. Again, the breadth and variety of the posters (some even from German sources, who were also asking the same) was impressive. Then there was the special exhibit of the AIDS epidemic posters from the early 1990s. If you'd not lived through that era, where the fear was all over the place, and the news had several stories of folks dying of AIDS left and right, having that curated collection of posters and adverts was an important reminder of where we were just 30 years ago. In the 1990s, you'd see news stories of random people dying of AIDS. One girl caught it from her dentist, and was all over the news (Kimberly Bengalis). Others caught it from parents. It ran rampant all over the world, and struck down people from all walks of life, regardless of race or sexuality. Watching the posters that were plastered up on the NYC walls during the epidemic, calling to question the inaction of people in power, asking for folks to contribute money, and several pleas to practice safer sex was a chilling reminder of what HIV/AIDS was for many many years. This was a well curated collection, and I'm glad I got a chance to see it. I'd say that the time I spent in the museum was well worth it.

The artwork is usually beautiful and always eye-catching, necessary to relay the reason the poster was commissioned. In addition to featured exhibits you'll see nostalgic posters that make you say "I remember that!" For me, it was rock-&-roll/concert art from the 60s and 70s. I mean, everybody acts like this is a big famous art museum that can change your cultural life or something, but half the people walking around in there are just phonies trying to look like they're deeply moved by a bunch of twisted old tree branches. It depresses the hell out of me. ​Its not that iteresting so don't overthink it, with all those gnarly roots and painted wood sticking out everywhere like some wild creature.That part was pretty cool, I guess. But then you've got all these fake foreign snobs in cheap coatd standing around stroking their chins, nodding like they're having a damn spiritual epiphany, when you know they're just going to go buy a ten-dollar cup of tea downstairs and brag about how cultured they are. That stuff just drives me nuts. ​The room itself was alright, clean and quiet enough, and that colorful quilt hanging on the wall behind it wasn't half bad either. I had no idea until this last one (late June 2022) that there were so many quality galleries on the UES. This one was amazing! Most of the tribal art there was aboriginal Australian along with a Korean artist. The curator did a great job explaining the background of the artists and the art itself snd we just had a great time. While a small space, there was so much beautiful works to see. Definitely will be coming back and highly recommended!
