So I tried selling my clothes here for the first time. The girls at the counter were nice but weren't able to offer anything for the clothes I brought. So to have an idea of what sells, I asked what kind of clothing they were looking for. They said active clothes and winter coats. So I asked further what kind of brand for activewear that they will take. One of the brands they mentioned was Nike. When I asked what offers would they make on Nike clothing, they told me only $3-4. Nike is a very good but expensive brand. While I don't expect to have a couple hundred dollar payout for Nike clothing, them offering only a few bucks for a very good brand was incredibly disappointing. It became clear to me that this wasn't a good place to sell your clothes as they won't give a decent offer to even elevated brands of clothing. I don't think I'll be back even to shop here read more

On previous trips to sell my clothes, I always had incredibly great offers. One basket only half full got me $32, two full baskets got me $178 abd $182 on two different visits. I went in yesterday with three baskets and only got $22. It was not only dissapointing due to the fact that my clothes didn't even look like they had been looked at thoroughly, but one of the shirts I brought in was identical to one they had for sale on the rack. What I also found interesting was that the folks working there looked to be high school or early college age, other than the last visits I made where the staff seemed to be older and better at their jobs. I also wonder, since I'm older, if there was some age discrimination going on. I had planned to have them donate what they didn't buy to St. Jude's anyway, but I was almost insulted by how little they took and how little they offered me. I just walked in with about 30 items, all on hangers, and when I first walked in, before she even said hi or examined my items, the sales associate said "I can tell you right now we probably won't be buying your clothes, there for older people. we only sell to teens and young adults, but I can look at them. " First of all, I had plenty of youthful clothes, 7 jeans, banana republic, j crew, plenty of stuff I purchased from Plato's closet! she didn't even look at the items! and I'm 45, and I shop here, used to shop here. I feel as though I always waste my time coming here as I try to sell some of my clothes. They offer almost little to nothing-- it's neither good nor bad. The first time I did, it was a little better. The store is very clean. Wouldn't recommend coming here to sell. I've gone 3 times over the past 2 weeks to try and sell. The first time, I was told it was a 5 hour wait. The second time I called prior and the guy on the phone told me not come come because the wait was 2 hours and they would cut off buying. The third time, I called again and they told me to bring my items. I walk in and am told they won't be buying again for another 30 mins to an hour. This confuses me because I thought you could bring items at any time? At least that's what their website says. Plus, any time I have gone into the store there's little to no people in there so don't know why they say it's so busy. I came here recently to sell 3 bags of clothes mostly clothes from Forever 21, H&M and Zara and they only took 4 items and those items weren't even name brand. I was just surprised because these items were not taken because they were all recently bought in the last year. The store only took about 10 minutes and to be honest it didn't even seem like the went through the bags at all. I was told my items were too dressy. This place is horrible. Took in 5 pairs of blue jeans(Levi's) various styles, all in great shape. I took a black leather coat, in great condition, shoes, it's not what they are looking for...the men's rack is full of Levi jeans. The young girls that work there are rude and arrogant. I actually bought a shirt from there, went up to pay, I paid with cash, the girl said that she likes customers that pay with exact change, I said that's all I have, which was $11, on a $10 shirt. The change was about $.13. She acted like she was put out for having to give that to me, but asked me if I even wanted my change. I stared at her for a moment, thinking how they just turned me down on all the clothes I tried to give them, now here this little shit asking if I even want my change! I came here the other day to sell some clothes and found that this place was decent. I was disappointed to not be able to sell a single article of clothing despite bringing in two bags. I was told the clothes were not a good fit and they were over stocked with the other clothes I had. To be honest, I'm not sure if they even looked at the clothes in my bags because most of them were exactly the same as when I left. Other than that, parking is accessible and the wait was pretty reasonable. I only waited for 30 minutes or so. The merchandise in the store seemed of pretty good quality, great variety, as well as reasonably priced. First off, I've been selling to Platos for years and never had any problems. This is the first time I've ever had anything bad happen. Came into this location to sell 2 large bags worth of clothes. The wait was about 30 and I decided to come back. Well, I came back to cash out and to take back what they decided not to keep, and they inform me that my items were already donated! They took 1 item which I find very unlikely because I had very nice, quality pieces. I was absolutely shocked that they wouldn't ask me if I wanted to donate (which I didn't at all) I feel like my items were stolen from me. They wouldn't tell me who they donated to or even have a log so I could keep for tax purposes! My theory is they kept everything so they wouldn't have to pay for my items. I will be checking back in a couple of days to confirm whether this has happened or not. But avoid this location if you don't want your items stolen without your knowledge or consent! read more

If you want to sell your old clothes, DO NOT BOTHER going here. The customer service is TERRIBLE. I had never sold clothes there before, so I walked up to the counter and asked what I needed to do. The lady threw some papers at me and told me to give her the clothes (without explaining why). When I asked for clarification (I mean, hello, I'm not just handing over my clothes until you explain why), she got mad at me and told me to come back in two hours. Um...what? The whole time, she was acting like she was too busy to talk to me. FINALLY, she explained in somewhat lucid terms that she would need two hours to look through my clothes and price everything. Then she glared at me like I was an idiot. Thanks, bitch. I walked out with a terrible feeling that my clothes were going to get "lost" in the massive messy pile behind the counter. After killing two hours at Northpark, I came back. A different saleswoman greeted me and asked for my name so that she could find my clothes. She got a basket that they'd sorted all the stuff they wanted into, then put it on the counter and -- I AM NOT KIDDING -- launched into the most robotic speech I have ever seen ("First of all, I would like to thank you very much for bringing in your clothes today..."). It was clear that these people did not give a shit about the people selling clothes to them. How clear? She got interrupted at one point, lost track of where she was in the speech, and STARTED OVER VERBATIM from the beginning. I was stunned. To add insult to injury, she then offered me a whopping $8 for my $200 Seven jeans. At that point, I couldn't even withhold my disdain. I burst out with a "HAHA NO WAY" and snatched them from her. She then offered me $8 for the entire rest of the pile (various shirts and stuff). I stared at her, gathered my clothes, said "no thanks," and left. I mean, do I look like a complete idiot? I was minding my own business and looking at small and medium clothes cause they obviously fit me and i wear baggy clothes so I understand where that impression can come from. If I could I would leave 0 stars. First the lady we dealt w first was kind, I had to get my gf to come in person even though she was in the car which I do understand but she was with our child. They held a grudge I guess bc they gave us 23$ for over 200$ worth of used clothes. Some of the items they did not even ring up were brand new Nike items. Brand new shirts and shorts, brand new swim shorts. They basically put 90% of slightly used clothes in a bin and said they didn't want it. I would understand this if they were ratty clothes. Brought a bag of nice and hardly worn clothes (some brand new) that didn't fit me as I've gained some weight... American Eagle, Madewell, Nike, etc. I dropped off my haul, got a text around 15 minutes later that my buy was complete. I thought was odd as the wait time was supposed to be much longer. I do suspect the reason it was such a short wait time is because the staff don't actually look through your stuff. The girls who work here are about 12 years old and all so rude. My boyfriend and I took our clothes in and they didn't even go through them. They thought we were not watching but we were. I recently cleaned my closet out and had bags and bags of items to donate. I thought I would run by Plato's Closet and see if they would buy anything. The process is pretty easy. They have a ipad on a stand on the counter so when you walk in you can see how long the wait will be and check yourself in. You will need your drivers license to check in. At the time I was there, it was in the middle of the day on a week day and there was only one person who could go through the clothes. I honestly believe she didn't go through all my clothes and then she suggested that I could just leave them there and they would donate them. I didn't feel comfortable with that at all because she couldn't tell me the non-profit organizations they donate them too. For the items she did go through, which was probably one or two of my bags, they bought a pair of capri workout pants, a skirt, top and purse for $25. I think that there process is fine but for the amount of people coming in on a Tuesday they should probably hire another person or train the other individuals that work there to help check in. There was a 45 minute wait when I walked in and it ended up being 1 hour 15 minutes. I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't mind the wait but you should know that before you go in. Also, note they only buy young women clothing from 16 to 21 or trendy clothes. They don't buy men clothes, such as suits or business attire. I'll probably sell items here again but only after trying other options. You might be better off just selling your clothes online or on an app. read more

I have been selling to Plato's Closet for many years and it just keeps getting worse each time I go in. I brought in approximately 30 very nicely branded items (American Eagle, Dockers, Lululemon) and I was excited to get some money for stuff we don't fit into anymore. I was quoted an hour when I got there, told them I'd wait for a text message for it to be ready but I wanted to browse the store while waiting since I had an hour to kill. After browsing for 20 ish minutes, I went out to my car to wait, which I proceeded to do for another hour and ten minutes. I went up to the counter when I got the text saying my buy was ready and she said she could only offer me $2 for one pair of shorts. After sitting there for over two hours they gave me $2 for off brand shorts, saying they had too much in the back to accept anything else. Waste of time. Will not be back. read more

I've been here a couple of times but yesterday was my final visit. For starters, the staff are all annoying. How so? Unhelpful, moving in slow motion, and talking about nonsense in front of customers. That isn't the biggest issue, though. A lot of clothes are stained. Not just a small spot either but a really gnarly stain. The prices are ridiculous when you take into consideration the quality (or lack thereof). The store is always dirty. I've seen dead cockroaches the size of my pinky finger just hanging out. You're telling me no one noticed? Or they were too squeamish to sweep it out? The music is so loud and also annoying. I tried to sell some clothes here and got "denied" but then took them to Urban Cheapskate where they took a majority of the stuff. One of the cashiers is super creepy, asking people where they live, how long they've lived there, etc. I get trying to build rapport but keep it simple and stop chatting so much when you realize a line is forming. I have been a seller and buyer for the last 3 years. I have NEVER had a single issue until the last two times I have gone to sell my items to Platos on Abrams in Dallas. The girl looking through my items told me 15 minutes and my thins would be ready..... 1 hour and 25 minutes later...... I got a text that my buy was ready. She started to have an attitude when I said I was not happy about it. No explanation why some items weren't taken. No kind of greeting when I walked in... Very poor customer service skills.... Staff laughing and playing but people are waiting around for their items to be looked at. The staff has the nastiest attitude towards their customers and a lack of desire to be there in the first place. I work in a resale shop and I know that it's very difficult to work in customer service, but however NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO WORK THERE so if you are so UNHAPPY than just LEAVE & find something else. I love Plato's, and this is my location. For those who say you won't make much selling clothes here, you're right. You will, however, find some great like-new clothes at good prices. I come here for jeans - you can get Seven jeans or others of similar qualities. I get compliments on mine all the time. Their shoe and boot collection is incredible. They've always got a good rack of the latest styles of skirts and dresses. The guys clothes selection is pretty limited, and working through the shirts, tanks, and sweaters is a little more complicated, but the rest are really easy to work through quickly for the right size and style. Plato's is high quality clothes, clean and well-organized store, and good (but not rock-bottom) prizes. They feature current styles, not the daring styles of Buffalo Exchange, and not the remnants-of-the-80's of your Goodwill style thrift store. read more

Definitely had a ton of fun shopping here. Love how it was organized and found a TON of stuff I was not expecting. A lot of the items were items I had seen recently for sale in the actual store, and was surprised by the good steals. Spent a little more money on some Fossil jeans, but minus the jeans I would have spent less than $30 on 5 items. The only problem with Plato's Closet is that selling items to them is not worth it. Expect an extremely long wait and a rejection of nearly everything you brought. But if you just want to shop this place has some great steals. Especially if you want to look cute on a budget, and don't mind buying used clothes. It is a hit or miss fashion wise, but so is any shopping experience. Just be prepared to look through a lot of clothes. It can be a lot of fun if your in the right mind frame. read more
