Alright when you sell your clothes here they clearly state that: (1) they sell clothes for 50-70% off their original prices in the store and (2) that youre only getting a small percentage. I look at it like this, getting money for clothes you want to donate is better than nothing! Went in with BRAND NEW / STILL WITH TAGS clothing items from Brandy Melville, Forever 21, Victorias Secret, etc. and got a whooping $15.75! Amazing! It was a quick process less than 30 minutes but when they opened at 10 AM there was ALREADY A LINE! Would recommend just to get some spare change but there are other ways of making more money on your brand-name clothing items. I recommend selling online or through phones apps. Parking is tight and surrounded by one way streets, the staff is semi-friendly, the store has no atmosphere or music playing, etc. read more

I've had decent experiences here which is why I'll keep it at 2 stars but if today was my first time coming here, I'd definitely never come back! I came in with two small bags with Hollister jeans/shorts, some cute tube tops and bralettes. The man told me 20-25 min so I shopped around where I saw clothing much less in style than what I had brought in (but whatever). Ended up buying a bodycon dress for $8. Waiting...waiting... waiting.... 30 minutes pass and my name still isn't on the board... They clearly see me coming back to check the board multiple times because I was starting to get irritated. Finally 45 minutes pass and my boyfriend suggests I go in and ask what the hold up is since I literally had 20 items max. So I go in, ask if my stuff is done and the lady says "oh it's been done" as if I should know. I responded with "oh, why isn't my name on the board?" And she said "ummm I don't know guess he didn't write it". It's almost comical how unacceptable that customer service interaction was. Overall, they took 5 bralettes and offered me $12, when I see them selling the bralettes for up to $10 each. It was pretty shocking that they didn't want brand name shorts and jeans that were hardly used and much more in style than the ones they had on display. Let me say that Plato's sell and buy program is great. But I know they can't buy everything, and I am always willing to spend money there to keep it open! It's my favorite place to shop. So my bestie and I love this place. We used to be able to come out and support because we enjoyed the clothes, the value, the ability to buy and sell our things, and mostly... the service that the staff would render. They were always friendly and helpful. We loved the money we saved and the vast selection of clothing we were able to see! Fast forward (it's a Saturday night) and I heard about their sale on the radio! It's been a while since I came to see them, but I always am excited to see what they have in store! Here is where I wasn't too happy... I walked into Plato's on a mission for a great sale and parts for my Halloween costume. It's strange that I was not "greeted" like they normally do. I thought they were just busy, but I noticed they had 5 customers in the store and 4 workers(?). There was a "manager in charge" person (gentleman), that stood in the front of the store. He notices the store is slow, so he tells the other workers to grab clothes that were in the back, to bring them up front. Then, A female and a male were talking and laughing, completely ignoring him. I could tell that they were more interested in changing the music overhead than to listen to someone tell them to work. Although the female must have said something back to the male in front, because he had to explain himself saying "...because I have to watch the front, can you please bring the clothes in back up front." By this time I started to hunt for what I was looking for (Mary Jane's and a yellow shirt)... I continued searching, searching , searching... the music keeps switching songs, and finally the male in the front calls out the other male employee (which was standing next to the disobedient female) to grab the clothes in back, in which, he listens and goes over to grab what was being asked for. I am for hardworking people and customer service, but maybe someone needs to check the female working this night and tell her that this job isn't for her. Because of her idle goofing off and insubordinate attitude, the male in front was going to be distracted with baby sitting this female while employed here, which is not okay in my book. I felt more angry and irritated for him. He needs a vacation and the girl should be cut. If you wanted to know, I did have a question for the workers that I couldn't ask, because of all this happening, so I left. I never got a "hello" or a "have a nice day" I felt shunned. read more

Employees here are professional liars!! I dropped off my clothes to sell and they told me to wait 45 minutes. I came back in 45 minutes and they asked me to wait another 15 minutes which I kindly did. After waiting an hour I went back in, and they told me they didn't even touch the bag yet. I asked why didn't they call me to tell me that they changed the time (AGAIN) instead of having me go back and forth waiting? If I had only found this place earlier to sell back items. What's nice is you will get cash back at the time you get your quote. The time to get a quote will vary. One time it was 20 minutes. The next day it was 1.5 hours. And depending the time of day, there might be a line. Keep In mind this store is supposedly for teens to 20 something year olds so they are highly selective on what they take... but at least you can get a couple bucks back if they want your stuff. read more

went here the other day to sell, they got 8 items from me and only gave me $25 lol which i'm like alright ig but the fact that i had a pair of $20 jorts and they js bought it off me for $3-4 rubs me the wrong way, (probably could tried to ask for more money, but they were busy and wasn't trying to take up their time) but even $10 woulda been better and they're definitely gonna sell it for like $15-18 bc even looking at their clothes they have stuff still priced pretty high for denim. probably should have been patient and sold on facebook marketplace.. i recommend u do the same in terms of selling ur clothes. also they advertise buybacks end an hour before closing which is understandable, and today they're scheduled to close at 9pm BUT they're probably short or something bc they decided to close at 8pm (i show up at 7:30pm thinking they're good to look through my stuff). I just wish they had simply POSTED on instagram instead I waste my time and gas showing up just to be turned away. They've been so active too, and I deliberately checked their instagram to avoid this very issue. More than likely will be avoiding coming back here as my 2 interactions with this place has been mediocre at best. I do agree with the rest of the comments that the prices tend to be almost the same price as retail if the item is in great condition and that the workers can be mean. You'd think that they'd appreciate your business but they don't. I had bought a good amount of stuff and when I brought it to the counter the guy said "god damn" under his breath. Multiple girls there run thrift pages where they resell the clothes for more and because they're employees, they get first pick at everything but for even cheaper prices. Ok I rarely ever give a one star review but today's visit to Plato's Closet was a disappointment to say the least. I will not be coming back here!! Brought in 4 stuffed bags of clothes and some purses. I know that Plato's is catered to teens and young adults so they want more "trendy" clothing or what the girl told me on the phone, "up to date" clothing. But what I don't get is why people would want to give away things are currently in trend. So while I browsed the racks as the girl went through my bags, I noticed a lot of Brandy Melville, H&M, American Eagle, F21 etc. Some things were similar to things that I brought so I thought they would at least take SOME things. Well it didn't take long before my name was written on the board (which means they're done assessing your items). I thought wow that was fast. Come to find out the girl didn't take any of my things! Yes some of my clothes were outdated like my old Guess stuff but many of my clothing could be worn today and still "in style." Honestly the girl going through my clothes didn't really look like she had style so I don't think she should of been determining what to take and what not to take. I also think she was too lazy to go through everything cause there was A LOT of stuff. Anyway def won't be coming back here again. I've come here a couple times to buy and sell stuff. I've found some cute outfits and accessories too. It's always a great treasure trove of things, and you know it is still in good condition because they check and accept gently used, good condition clothing. This last visit, I brought my husband. He said he would buy a dress for me. My favorite shop was closed, and this place was really close. So we stopped here. I just like to state that bringing your significant other into this place is the best move ever!! I went to try on my outfits and he went crazy looking at the sneakers and men's shirts. HE BOUGHT MORE STUFF THAN I HAD! I think I created a monster. Which made is pretty fair game to add a couple more outfits! So I heard the owner Travis on the radio one day. He said they desperately need men's clothes so I figured I give it a try. I take 4 jeans to sell and all got denied. They bought nothing. I had a Hugo Boss, 7 For All Mankind, Kenneth Cole, and a Calvin Klein jeans. When comparing my jeans condition to the ones on the rack they were comparable. They told me my jeans are not popular sellers. Well I guess the buyer doesn't want designer jeans. Brands I saw were H&M, Hollister, Quiksiler, Gap, and tons of Levis to name a few. When you're on the radio saying you're desperate for men's clothes then deny sellers who have mens clothes, what a disappointment. Again, it's not like my clothes were trash. Clean, organized and in a convenient location. Wait was very long for selling and you need to settle same day. I had already waited an hour and so I just collected my items and left. Staff seemed nice and friendly. Most items were of the lowest fast fashion quality (Shein, Forever 21 etc). Seems targeted more to teens. If you are looking for contemporary lines, vintage, surf brands, department store brands or longer lasting quality items you'll have better luck elsewhere. My items for sale were higher end denim brands (Current Elliot and AG) and brand new with tags Uniqlo so I questioned whether they would even take it, which is also why I left before they went through my items. read more

As for the clothing selection, it's a thrift store so you may get lucky or try again next time! I came in looking for some new denim shorts crossing my fingers I could find them here at Plato's for a bargain price. I found a gorgeous pair of distressed lee high waisted shorts for $8 and also a baby blue bodysuit from forever 21 for $4. Both were in great pre-loved condition so I thought the pricing was fair and makes me want to come back. I've sold my clothes from this place before and even time i've came.... they bought my clothes. I recommend clothes you don't really want to be sold here, they only buy 50-70% off retail of what you give them. I went to Plato's yesterday, late afternoon (4pm?) I gave them my clothes and they told me to wait an hour. I thought that was fine since I saw there was a lot of names on the board in the front. When I came back..... THEY TOOK NOTHING. how you gonna let me wait an hour if you ain't gonna take nothing. I was giving a generous amount of good brands such as BRANDY MELLVILE, PACSUN, ROXY, and some others like nice thrifted dresses, shirts, workout clothing, and jeans (I didn't mind keeping my clothes since their still in style and good condition). I was friends with one of the coworkers who now I currently I drama with, maybe that's why they didn't take my clothes? I was hoping they would atleast put that aside and do their job...... I wish I could give 0 stars. Worst place ever. The customer service- they are all super rude. I brought 2 bags of amazing clothes and they didn't want anything. They told me they don't accept "kids sizes" even though they were all adult sizes (petite / small). I didn't bring in crappy or very used items. They were almost brand new and in really good condition, very nice quality. The only thing they wanted was my $200 san lorenzo bathing suit and $150 ralph lauren jacket, and they wanted to pay me $19 for both TOTAL. What a joke. I said no and the guy looked at me weird. Wtf? The brands I brought in were Charlotte Russe, Brandy Melville, Forever 21, Bershka, Zara, Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie & Fitch, Lululemon, Adidas, etc. ALL brands they said they "love". These were all in great condition too. It's funny my lululemon leggings were practically brand new and weren't kid sizes (size 4) and they said it wasn't as new. IVE ONLY WORN IT ONCE. NO STAINS or anything. Super rude, the clothes on the shelf's looked ridiculous too so I'm very shocked. My clothes looked a lot better. They told me they aren't picky on the phone, yet I brought over like 500 clothing items and they didn't want anything. I drove 45 min all the way here for nothing. They weren't even kind at all. Yikes. Read the other bad reviews because they are 100% true. I enjoy looking for good, pre-owned pieces. However, all they seem to buy is Forever21, H&M, and brands from Jean's Warehouse. Some items have stains, snagged fabric, and threads that are coming undone. On top of that, they price these items $15-18? Why would anyone want to spend $18 on a used, beat up, H&M dress when we could pay the same amount for a new one. The only disappointment I have is that you can't try on clothes and they only give store credit for returns. My preteen daughter found Hollister jeans with the tags on but after purchasing, found they didn't fit. It would be nice since you can't try on to get your money back, but they are not the only clothing store to have this policy so it is what it is. Returning gave her the opportunity to sell some of her clothes since this was our first time in the store. They took 4 out the 5 items we brought and we got a fair amount of $. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I just moved here and got rid of 75% of my clothing. I had at least 30 shirts/shorts with the tags still on it (express, americans eagle, Oakley, Nike) I took about 12 huge bags here with mostly barely worn jeans and men's T-shirts from name brand stores. I'd say I brought in over 400 articles of clothing and about 15 pairs of vans shoes and some Nikes. They took about 22 items total. I was SHOCKED. The woman, who is the owner (older woman) was mad I brought that much stuff in to sell. She told me it was too much and I need to go through it before I brought it, because they didn't have time to look through it all and it was taking up too much space behind the register. I have to admit I was quite offended. They are a buy and sell store, and their customer service was just horrendous and the owner was straight up rude. This is the second time that I have taken my clothes there but this time I had ALOT. I had about 3 garbage bags full, and 3 medium size shoppers full. Some of them even had the tags on them. They're located right across of Queen Kaahumanu Elementary school. So I walked in and I was greeted, dropped off our clothes and came back a few hours later to pick up what they did not take. Which I know they DID NOT look through all the bags. There was a hole in one of the garbage bags and a light blue shirt was visible in that hole. I came back and that SAME shirt was still visible in that same whole. Reason why they only took 6 pieces for if I can remember $24 and some change was because they shown wear and usage. Which I understand, but if that is your reason to why you didn't take the "over used" clothes, whats the reasons for not taking the brand new clothes with tags on them? To be honest, it was a waste of my time taking my things there. We're better off making a garage sale or going to the swap meet. read more

My wife likes Plato's Closet. All of their items are reasonably priced below retail, and they're straight forward on what they want to purchase from customers. People need to understand that they aren't going to get all of their money back on items that still have tags or may have been gently used. Plato's Closet is a great place to get a few dollars here and there, you won't get $100. And let's be real, if you bring in 2-3 large garbage bags filled with clothes they won't fully check it because they have a business to run. They don't have time to be going through all of the items you brought in. Another thing is that they are going to sell your items for more than what they gave you for them. They are a business and they need to make money to keep their business running. If you want to sell your items quickly then Plato's Closet is the best place.
