I've had a mixed experience here. The biggest turn off is the staff. The conversation they have out loud with customers present is shocking. Inappropriate things such as wha they did on the weekend with partners and friends that are not ment for public let alone customers. The staff also have depressed annyonance with anyone who ask the for help. The clothing selection is ok. There are better options in town. First time experience, was sent there to sell some women clothes. I didn't know the process but your clothes need to be bagged on in a bin or tub. I had to go and obtain a bag before they could begin the process. Once they we're begged, they took your information and put you in their system so they can contact you. They go through your clothes first then they send you a text message to return and then you get the amount that they will pay you. Those clothes that they don't keep their return to you and they'll pay you in cash immediately it was a little eye opening, but I guess that's how they do business. I go to try on a few items and the young man at the fitting room with an attitude, said you can't take your bag into the fitting room with you. ( The store is under new ownership) There is a sign on the fitting room saying I can't take my purse, I'm a 30 year old woman with a double flap Chanel bag, why would I give you my bag. This place has a couple of nice options if you take your time to look through although, I feel some items are a bit over priced since they are second hand clothes. They also shouldn't accept everything people want to trade in because some of the items aren't in good conditions and shouldn't really be sold. Some items are even dirty, I'm not sure they wash them at all which is not sanitary. They should enhance the appearance of the place, despite the fact that it's a second hand store they should keep it looking nice and clean. Over all I love the idea behind Plato's, being able to bring pieces you no longer want and exchange them for other pieces or a price! But they need to upkeep it. read more

My time and packaging my clothes to take it to this place they make you wait three hours for them to tell you that they're not gonna take your clothes today. Our package stuff that still had tags on it or nearly to not be worn and received all of my stuff back because it was too mature, but when you walk to the store, it has a shirt in the front that says MILF in training. I have purchased some jeans and shirts for my daughter, but never brought clothes in until today. I will say that was very disappointing, in total 4 items were taken back 3 pairs of shoes that were never worn total less the 1 pair of shoes. The staff was courteous no complaints about them. I don't have a problem with coming back and purchasing from the store but having them buy back the clothes, I'm am fine and will stick to selling on Poshmark or eBay to get my money worth. read more

Based on previous review history, I was hesitant to give this location my business but figured, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I took an armload of clothing (20 items or less) plus a handful of jewelry pieces, just to see what sales process was like. As mentioned in previous reviews by other people, I was presented with a specific list of brands considered desirable, and also informed that similar styles from other retailers might also work. I took a mixture of clothing styles, most new with tags, including some sterling silver and James Avery jewelry. I was walked through the registration and sign in process, then given an estimated 1 hour time for items to be processed and an offer to be generated. I was also told that clothing needed to be clean, gently worn, with little signs of wear. I chose to walk the store and shop while my items were being sorted. There is a decent selection of clothing in a wide range of sizes but the store had a thrift shop feel to it and the existing clothing and accessories did not meet the standards I felt my items were being held to. Please see my pictures of 2 shirts I saw while shopping today. There were a couple of small designer name hand bags I considered purchasing but was completely disheartened to see that someone in the store had chosen to secure an anti theft tag through the leather of the bag, thus damaging it - but still asking a fairly high, comparatively speaking, price for something damaged intentionally before putting it on the sales floor. Once my items were sorted, I received a text notification to come to the counter for my offer. The associate that helped me was friendly enough but she made an assumption about one of my items and when I queried it, she realised her error and changed my offer after extending it to me and it being approved by me. I was quite disheartened by the fact that I was only given an offer of $44 +/- for an Adidas athletic bra and matching Capri pant (both new with tags, original RV for set was $137), an Olivia & Joy tote bag New with tags, RV $85, a James Avery ring, a sterling charm, and a piece of costume jewelry also new with tags from Charming Charlie. I asked what I was getting for the adidas set and her response was $20 because it was in excellent condition. Um, excellent? How about brand new with the original tags????When I queried the "value" assigned my James Avery ring, the associate told me $10 for the ring and charm each but then she realized the charm was not James Avery and she cut my offer to just under $40. Not only is that super shady and unprofessional, but a mistake on her part should not cost me when I had already accepted the crappy and insulting offer I was given. I am still seething about this and have absolutely no intention of ever setting foot in this location again. Going forward, I will stick to Poshmark and eBay and strongly suggest anyone wishing to sell their better clothes and accessories do the same. read more

Updated- the manager Ann going around doing damage control on Yelp but not addressing ppl real issues with the place is a** backwards. Ann I had True Religion jeans in great condition, and two H&M dresses that retailed $70, you can't downplay that there's a method to your company's madness when your staff has no knowledge of what is marketable in fashion resale. I actually want to know how y'all are staying afloat? Nobody is shopping here that much to make the rent alone... but I digress. I am not sure why there are so many bad reviews for this Plato's Closet. I think most of them are for another location because this store hasn't been open as long as a lot of these reviews go back. ANYWAY.... I love this location! It is well organized , and everyone that works there is so nice. I haven't sold anything to them yet, but I definitely plan to. Close time is at 9pm and they saw me struggle with my baby and a box going in and tell me they stop taking orders at 5:00pm. Beware: I will never go to Plato's closet on Mason road again. The employee put my phone number in wrong on Wednesday afternoon when I dropped my shoes off. I called this morning to see the status since I haven't received any notification of it being done like usual and it was four pairs of shoes (since they weren't taking clothes). They told me there's nothing they can do, I told them I want to come pick up my stuff and the staff members Sophie and Anthony stated my stuff wasn't there anymore. They never apologized once, or took responsibility for their employees mistake. After calling and emailing corporate (with no response), Plato's called me three times in a row (another employee katie) saying they "found"my stuff in the donation bins. Plato's closet will no longer get my donations or business. I highly reccomend clothes mentor if you're in the Katy area. read more

My teen, college kid, and a teen cousin wanted me to take them thrifting so we started here in Katy as our first stop. The is organized fairly well and had a good selection for my teen boys. I would have given the place 2-3 stars based on service as they are inattentive and lack customer service. I had to ask them to check us out then ask a second time as they walked away instead of ringing up my daughter who was standing there waiting. They get 4 stars because of selection, prices, and quality. We went to 4 other store near downtown and Platos Closet in Katy had the best selection. Who knew? With the service skills of the staff, I think selling to them would be a hassle. read more

So I cleaned out my closet and amassed piles of clothes - and having heard the spot ad on the radio about getting cash for clothes, I decided to check out Plato's Closet. On a completely irrelevant note, I've always thought being named after a philosopher was rather cerebral for a retail store. I walked in with two bags of clothes varying in style from cuffed Ralph Lauren button downs to a silver-and-black leopard print dress from my clubbing days. The young gentleman at the counter promptly greeted and guided me to the counter. He said I could browse the store or wait, and I opted for the latter; I'm going through a fascinating book on FDR. As I came to find, there's something surprisingly yet palpably nerve-racking about having a stranger go through your clothes. It's like you're being judged not only for the caliber of your clothes, if there be such a thing, but also for their conditions and how well you took care of them. I tried not to glance as he carefully removed the clothes from the bag, examined, and folded them into neat piles. Turns out that most of my clothes are too business-y to fit the needs of Plato's Closet's target demographic; the sister store in Willowbrook would take my clothes, he kindly added. I asked about the clubbing dress and the Juicy Couture ruffled skirt, and he said halter tops and banded-waist skirts are on the cannot-purchase list. Apparently the store does adhere to a strict philosophy! The colorbloc 3/4-sleeve XXI shirt solely made the cut, and I gained $2.10 from the sale. The whole resale experience was interesting in that I gained an insight to what stores like this look for in their merchandising process. While I probably won't be a repeat seller here, the staff was courteous and efficient, and the experience was pleasant enough. read more

I've been coming here for years to sell clothes. It's unfortunate to see the decline of this company. They must have new rules or regulations for buying clothes, which is fine by me because my clothes are hardly worn and in great condition. So you'd think. Today I brought in 2 giant bags of slightly used clothes (more worn stuff I donate) I was offered $7 for two items. But my beautiful dresses (with tags still on) we rejected because they are "women's brand" sorry sweetie, but most of my clothes are forever 21, urban outfitters, and target. If they don't have a brand it's because they are from China, still in teen sizes and style. My jeans and shorts (urban outfitters, American eagle, HOLLISTER, target and miss me) were ALL rejected because they were worn or stained. Ha, see the photos for yourself to see how ridiculous that is. The real problem with this company is that it won't get rid of the old crap that won't sell so they don't have room for decent stuff and have to create stricter rules for buying merchandise. My stuff was better quality than what you have on your racks now. Less worn, more in style, better materials. Honestly the whole company is likely to go under soon. Maybe you should hear out your sellers and buyers and listen to what they have to say if you're not doing well - which you aren't - which is why you attempted to recover by changing your regulations and only made it worse. So I decided to give this place another try and take my little sister here to grab a few items for back to school DESPITE having a previous negative experience with them years before. So while she's shopping I see a couple pair of jeans that I liked and decided to try them on. After trying on two that I didn't like, there was a dark denim pair that I was hoping would work. After putting one leg in I realized that there was a LARGE AMOUNT OF PERIOD BLOOD stained inside the dark denim jeans. I was totally disgusted, and it was a reminder why I can't stand this location. Needless to say I grabbed my sister and got the hell outta there. Once again I'm just surprised that the amount of junk they actually purchase and turn down quality items for stained and faded crap or nonsense from Shein. I've been to many Plato's closets in many different states and this one is by far the worst! Next time I'll follow my instincts and shop somewhere else, might have better luck at the freaking goodwill across the street. read more

When coming here, you need to understand that you are NOT going to make much money off your clothes, and they will NOT take as many of your items as you would hope. If you know this coming into the store, then your expectations won't be crushed. And if your expectations aren't demolished, then you can realize that this store is actually fun to shop! It has clean, well-sorted shelves, friendly workers (when I was here on a Saturday anyway), and a nice selection of clothes. I just wish the fitting rooms weren't closed during the pandemic. After reading the previous reviews, I was a bit hesitant to bring my bag of clothes here. Since it's the closest location to my home, so I decided to risk it. I'm glad I did! I walked in today, around 2pm, filled out the form and asked how long it would take, to which they said "30 minutes or so". So I just wandered around the strip center and came back. They were able to buy 10 items from me for $35. I honestly wasn't concerned about how much I would get for it. I just wanted to get rid of a lot of clothes, and I knew I might be able to get a couple bucks off some of the name brand items. The employees were very sweet, and very attentive. I wish I got the name of the woman who helped me today, because I would've loved to commend her on her excellent customer service. I would come back here again. read more

This store does not even deserve one star because when employees Ella and Casey straight out lie to you and then on top of it not buy one item from you and then even more so steal your clothes from you the store does not deserve to be open if they're going to continue to allow teenage kids work there and get away with whatever they want when it comes to business you don't steal peoples clothing that keep your business afloat or even in business for that fact of the matter because this is Plato's closet they depend on the community for clothing to stay open so when you start stealing from them you're gonna lose your business so what was the owner of this company needs to know that that today around 12 o'clock 1 PM Robert McCarty came in there that's my name I am afraid to say it to sell some clothing to that store and specifically my hoodie Nike neon bright orange coat jacket whatever was not returned to me so makes me believe some other things were not returned to me as well as them telling me my stuff smelled like cigarette smoke which was OK not a problem I don't mind washing them as I do I am a smoker but that's not the issue the issue is straight up stealing the things that are mine and not theirs and then not give me money for it. What else is it called other than that, stealing. Then no morals about doing to lying and acting like nothing that you just did. I felt a more recent review would help us customers, although my review is going to be the same as almost every one star review. I do not believe I will be returning to this location to sell. They barely take any items even when you the have items/brands requested. Not even never worn clothing with tags. Although this is a common experience for some at certain Plato's closet locations, I feel it's even worse here. What most people are saying about the staff has not changed. Definitely not the most professional. One of them was on the phone having a conversation from the time I dropped off my items, until I came back (I browsed the store for 30 minutes during the conversation as well). My estimated wait time was 45 minutes. I never got a text in the beginning and when I inquired about it was told it was fine and I'd receive one at the end. As mentioned, I browsed the store and then left to run some errands. It had been about 1.5 hours since I dropped off my items when I chose to go into the store for an update. I know it can take longer and Im understanding of that but since I never received the initial text I wanted to be sure. After inquiring I was told, "oh it's ready, we forgot to send the text" in such a careless way. As if people's time isn't valuable. If I return to this location it would only be to browse for items.
