The staff is unhelpful, unprofessional, and rude. Working at a resale store similar to Plato's, I know how careless employees can be while looking through customer's items. Some employees are even "too lazy" to look through customer's clothing. So prior to selling my own clothing to this Plato's, I accompanied my boyfriend. After receiving his offer, I asked one of the employees (skinny hispanic girl with glasses) why they had passed on certain items, Levi's corduroy jeans and polo. I also asked for the price of a romper since the tag was cut off. She told me that "material" of jeans does not sell, the shirt was faded, and if I was paying for the romper or not. Due to her pushy attitude, I said "no nevermind" and walked out of the store. A few days later, I went to sell my own clothing and the same employee was there. The male employee offered me $10.30 for two items. I agreed to the offer and he apparently could not pay me out, so the skinny girl with glasses had to pay me out. I'm not exaggerating when I say she threw the money into my hands and walked away. My boyfriend was even shocked by her actions. I looked around at the other employees, but neither of them said anything. All in all, I am extremely upset with the lack of professionalism this employee has. If this is the behavior her employer allows then they're going to lose many customers. read more

OMG, this dude was so freaking rude!!! Yelp I need the ability to rate folks a "0"!! This was my first & last time in this place. I cannot do bad customer service, I won't do bad customer service! I walked in to get information on selling. Before I could even ask questions the rude dude told me that they're only looking for select "brands". There was no hello, no welcome or how you doing ... just him pointing to a paper saying these brands only. So I asked if I don't have these brands will you not even consider buying them? He said "no" and began helping someone else. Now between my 2 teenagers, I had some of the brands but not all, I had 3 bags full of clothes & shoes! I stood back for a moment, I was a little taken aback and watched as others came in dropping items off. NONE of these other people were given the spill I got. Finally, I took a walk around the store, it looks like a garage sale!! Seriously, you have the nerve to be selective, not even look at my items but you have clothes on the floor that are in bad condition snd look like they've just come from the flea market. I came to sell clothes and shoes, they said wait 30 minutes I walked around and when the time came after they "looked" through my things they said none of my shoes were able to be bought because they were in bad condition ,in my bag I had 2 pairs of BRAND NEW adidas The 3 girls never looked through the bag in the first place because the shoes were in the exact spot they were before. Not only that but I literally walked to the shoe rack and picked up the most dirtiest crust vans I've ever seen. This location is awful. I feel that even a one star rating is too much. Don't waste your time. The first time I came in I wasted two hours of my time with some lame excuse as to why they wouldn't buy my clothes. I don't know why I went back but I wasted two hours of my time once again. I have Steve Madden shoes , Joes jeans , French connection dresses and fashion other items that were in good condition and they wouldn't offer to buy because of some lame excuse saying they are only buying athletic gear and no heels. I arrived at Plato's Closet skeptical and departed happier than a mosquito at ACL!! I found it to be MUCH cheaper and friendlier than your "buy, sell, trade" stores on Westheimer! I used to LOVE going to the usual resale shops on Westheimer, but I find their prices going up along with their employees noses! With Plato's closet being in the burbs, you don't get the disapproving, "You're not punk enough" looks! I walked out with a pair of shorts and a tank and only spent $7!!!! read more

This is the dumping ground for Katy's rich (and not so rich) young women's castoffs. Cute selection that they obviously weed through a bit to get only decent stuff. Pretty good prices too. I came looking for a few pieces to supplement my wardrobe at a casual-but-no-jeans workplace, and came out with like-new pointy-toed kitten heels, three pair of dress slacks and at least five tops for around $50. It was pretty hard to find my then-21-year-old style and size, but my little sister shops here all the time and can stay close to the junior high chic without killing my mom's budget. read more

The worst service I've experienced in a long time. First I visited the Katy Texas Mason road location today October 5th 2020! When I first arrived I was greeted by two lovely young ladies that greeted me and were polite and talked with me while I checked in my items I wanted to sell. I was pleased to see the store was actually clean and well stocked which has not been the case for a long time. Now other than that my experience was below a zero. I was told it would be about an hour so I left and ran errands waiting for my text after 3 hrs I called because my check in process was still on check in and never moved I was told they were behind that it would be 20 more minutes so 45 minutes later I went in to check. Not only was it still not done but my bag was open and one of my items was laying on top of the bag so I asked did some one start the process I'll just wait the manager said no that item goes with this haul I'm doing now, I said no that's my purse it's brand new with the tag on it which I wrote my name in blue ink she looked at it and said oh and the. Threw it onto my bag!! No I'm sorry or how did they happen. I said well I'm here and have waited several hours if I'm next can you please do my items now she said no I have to finish checking in all these people then do the basket in front of yours. So I left feeling very uneasy about leaving my items with these people. 2 more hours passed before I was texted so it took over hours! When I walked back in at almost 8pm I was not greeted at all there was one staff member hanging up cloths and the same manager was checking someone out with about 7 customers shopping. The manager did not look up from what she was doing and greet me nor did the other person that was stocking the racks I stood stood there for about 15 minutes with this manager never even looking at me. When she finished ringing up the customer who rang up twice by the way because she forgot something else she wanted and went back the manager then walks over to me and just looks at me and I said I'm here to pick up she was like OK she didn't ask for my name she said what is your stuff and I was like it's in a white trash bag but wouldn't it be easier to use my name isn't it labeled with my name and she was like which bag and I was like my name is Kimberly Keith I had my drivers license in hand she never even asked to see the license she just went straight over to the bag picked it up she could've been giving me someone else's stuff like their process is ridiculous so I looked on the bag my name was on the little tag but she didn't even look at that she just grab the items on the top said we're taking seven items this is how much it would be are you OK with that she still did not look at my license I could've been the wrong person picking up these things who is trained these people because the second two were the rudest things I've ever encountered not trained not polite not courteous they didn't smile and yes even with a mask you can see when someone is smiling at you or when they're scowling at you she then says OK thank you and that was it and I'm thinking you had my purse with someone else's stuff earlier you don't even remember that it was me... not to mention the purse came with an inset she had the inside of the purse left in the bag that she was sending home with me I had to tell her that it came with the purse that she purchased this particular manager was a tall Caucasian woman with long dark brown to black hair she was unprofessional and rude and not trying to be a manager what so ever her store was understaffed and overwhelmed it should not have taken that long. Customer service is key to running a successful business and I am sorry but for several years now this location has had the worst employees ever. Which is the reason I rarely go in anymore. I have been coming here for the past couple of years and have found it helpful in cleaning out my closet, as well as looking for a couple of fashionable pieces for a bargain. Now a lot of the critical comments on here about selling is not getting a huge return profits on the clothes they sell. They are pretty selective: new/lightly worn teenage clothing, popular brand name oriented (forever 21, pink, Abercrombie and Fitch, h&m etc). the most I've ever gotten for a regular clothing item is $3-4? Of course it won't be as much as you originally bought for. However if you're looking to make a few bucks for something that's taking up space in your closet and just want to get rid of, it's a convenient option. For clothes that aren't accepted drop those clothes off to Goodwill and just be rid of the extra clutter! My advice in regards to waiting time (especially as a seller) is AVOID THE WEEKENDS. It's the busiest time and can wait as long as 1 1/2 hours or more. Great selection of clothes, as well as for guys too. I believe They have a stamp card available for every $10 you spend? Fill up the stamp card and its either a discount or a certain amount of store credit? Sign up for emails or ask the store workers for upcoming sales and deals! read more

Just walked in to sell and there are 4 people standing there. No one acknowledged me. Even the "manager" on duty or whoever she was was busy talking about a schedule and not the customers. I had to stare one girl down and she finally noticed me and apologized(I think she was new and I hope she doesn't get tainted by their terrible customer service). Let me add, they are so slow. I went to the plato's closet in sugar land and there were 2 other people in front of me. They were quick and polite. Said hello when I walked in which is a whole lot better than this store. I've been to each store twice and the sugar land location was better, maybe still not the best service but better. I understand high schoolers are working, but I was very professional at that age. As of right now they are standing around talking and one is checking her phone. What a joke! I will not be back. Edit: I was going to post a picture of the girl wearing a shirt that said "I understand, I just don't care" With her face covered but I think people will figure that out. I just took in two large trash bags of Forever 21 clothes and they didn't even look through all of the bags I'm pretty sure....They did not offer me any money. Their excuse was my clothing was too old and they were only looking for tank tops. However, looking through all of the clothes inside the store, I saw plenty of clothes with strings hanging off of them and not very good quality. Cramped store, but can find some good stuff if you have the time and energy to dig. I did try to return something today for the first time ever and found it pretty impossible. Luckily the prices are cheap so it's not a huge loss and makes up for the lack of decent customer service. I always find the staff here aloof and not very helpful. I don't come weekly or anything, but when I do I feel I spend a decent amount, but am not sure it's worth it when there are many other places in Katy to shop that will work with you on exchanges or returns. read more

Good selection of shoes! Not as much clothing as I've seen as some stores, and definitely not as much jewelry, but the space is very small. Still worth a visit! I would give Plato's Closet ZERO stars if I could. I brought in two HUGE trash bags of clothing that was only about a year old-- some of it was brand new. They accepted only 3 of my items for $15.00. They said that most of the tops and the boot cut jeans were "out of style". These were items purchased within the last year from Abercrombie, American Eagle, H&M, Express and many other "name brand" stores. I found this a little shocking seeing as how most of the items in the store were dingy and gross. Most of the shoes they have for sale were nasty. I will NEVER bring my items back. I'll just donate them to Goodwill. read more

I have an honest question. What is the test these employees put the merchandise through in order for them to be accepted? My fiancée and I brought a bunch of barely used professional and casual clothes such as pants, slacks and button ups from express, shoes from Kenneth Cole, brand new Sperrys and a number of fossil and Kenneth Cole watches along with MK. They took FOREVER, first of all... but maybe they had much to do (except the young girl on her phone behind the register who never acknowledged me.) so whatever, I waited. While I waited I looked around. I usually get really excited about clothes and saw a couple of cute things. But most things were old looking, simple, stained, and just not attention grabbing. The shoes were musty and not to mention the mens clothing rack in the back STUNCK to the point that my fiancée said he could no longer look around in that area. So naturally.... I'm thinking that our brand new, pretty and expensive clothes, shoes, and accessories would be a no brainer. Well... I'm looking at the girl behind the counter from the corner of my eye while looking at racks. I was trying to see if she had gotten to our bag yet without trying to be weird by just straight up staring . I saw that she put her hand in the bag and just looked around, took out the first couple of things and a few minutes later we got called back. She wanted to offer us like $7 for a brand new pair of air max shoes and like 1.50 for more Nike things. What?? No. And then she said the rest of the things people just wouldn't buy. Really? I understand people won't buy crusty shoes like the ones in the racks, I know I wouldn't. But brand new sperrys, accessories and express clothing? Lol Did she even go through the bag ? I don't think so. Because when I asked her "what about all the jewelry and MK?" She actually had NO idea what I was talking about lol! Ridiculous. Here's your problem Plato's.. you have entrusted the purchase of clothing to a bunch of dumb kids who wear Jesus sandals and hobo clothes. They don't know what they're doing. Horrible customer service, the place smells faintly like moth balls and ratty clothing. The clothes are not very stylish, some of the shoes look like they've been worn for years before someone went to sell them. Selling with them is like pulling teeth. There's always a long wait, the employees are usually rude, they cuss, talk about drugs, and take forever to go through the buys. They give back clothes that still have tags on them, are "too old", but look brand new, and anything they don't see as "fitting for their store". I went in here the other day. I'm 24, I brought in 2 pairs of high rise lululemon, 2 pairs of Levi high rise shorts, forever 21 high rise workout leggings ect. All bought in the past 6 months and all awesome quality, I'm not stupid I used to work there so I know what they can take and not take. They didn't take any of those things. What they did take was all my shitty clothes I brought in which I was surprised. I also watched from the back and noticed they DIDNT EVEN LOOK THROUGH ONE OF MY BAGS?? Needless to say their buyers SUCK. And are rude AF. I asked hey why didn't you take these brand new leggings to imply that they didn't even look through half my things, the girl at the counter didn't even look up and said "that's a brand we don't take" um..what? So I said.."so forever 21 and lululemon isn't a brand you guys take anymore" she said "yes" without looking up once in the rudest voice. I'm sorry I used to manage I KNOW what good customer service is. This is also why they have TERRIBLE inventory. They pass up on GOOD quality stuff. ive been honestly hoarding clothes in my closet for about a few years now, and i decided i needed to get rid of the majority. i got about three bags worth (bags as in just left over bags from the mall) and stuffed them with nice clothes. they varied from the brands of pink, vans, american eagle, h&m, aerie, and ect. i also put in never before worn adida shoes and vans, and two pair of sandals. out of all of my items, they took only 10 things (including the adida shoes, vans, and one of the sandal pairs) and said they'd give me $40. first off, the adida shoes themselves were around $60 when i got them, and the vans cost $45, and with all the other clothes they had taken, including two pair of jeans from american eagle, i thought they should've offered WAY more. i will never again be trading in clothes for cash here at platos. although this upset me quite a bit, i will say that every time i go there i find great prices on their clothes, especially jeans. read more

I dropped off a full bin of clothing, several items with their tags still on, and when I came back they said they would accept none of it. Only about half of the bin appeared to have been touched (several items were in the same place with the same fold). When I (politely) asked about a Lucky brand sweater that still had its tags, the sales associate simply shrugged. They gave me a flimsy bag to hold an entire bin full of clothes and didn't offer either to help load it or help get it to my car (I understand that it's not their job, but cmon - at least offer). Overall, my experience consisted of lazy and rude employees. And I've worked mall retail, I understand appropriate etiquette and wouldn't take the time to write a review or use the words lazy and rude if I didn't have very strong feelings about it. read more

Platos Closet sucks. I took 2 huge bags of clothes for them and they only took 4 shirts, one of which is cut up! They didnt even look through either of the bags, just took some shirts off the top of one bag. When asked why, they said "these kind of clothes just don't sell well." They're all F21, Charlotte Russe, Rue 21, H&M, etc. I had jeans, shorts, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, and skirts in those bags, but apparently they don't sell those kind of things!!! I used to love this store, but within the past month I noticed a new Caucasian manager who in my opinion, turned the store to the worse. The posts on their Instagram have no more style, I've seen some of my favorite employees (since I'm a frequent customer) no longer work there, and it's so saddening to see.
