This store gives you pennies for gently used/unworn clothing. The customer service is lackluster. I was the second person in the store and it was not busy at all. Make sure they input the correct phone number in the system, so you aren't waiting for an extra 45 mins because they texted the wrong number (like me). On a lighter note, the store is fairly organized and clean. Customers no longer have to fill out a form providing personal information when they come in to sell. Unfortunately, there was no regard for my time, lack of attentiveness, and the employees were more engaged with each other than customers. read more

I just recently went in with a few items to sell - they were clean or unworn, and folded nicely. They took 5 of the 7 items, which I was happy about! I poked around the store for a bit while I waited and honestly, the selection is fine. Yes, there are some outdated items, but as a whole, I felt like the store had good options for teens and young adults. And most items were marked down 50%. Do not even waste your time going to this place if you're trying to sell some clothes. I brought my FRESHLY washed clothes to sell and they tell me there is a smoke odor , that I need to wash them and bring them back. I leave wash them and return the next day. And they try tell me these clothes washed less that 6 hours ago smell?? They refuse to show me who checked them so I can ask what the issue is when they were just washed. They are all extremely rude and tell me to wash and bring them back again. Clearly that doesn't help and everyone working is nose deaf or slow. Plato's Closet is fabulous. There is SO much stuff in here. The racks are FULL of trendy looks! Tons of jeans. Tons of tops. And a modest selection of jewelry and purses. You can snag a dress for $6-$12 or a chunky necklace for $3. Hey, I think that's a good deal. The quality here is good. It's used so you get what you get. I see that Plato's has gotten some heat when it comes to paying for your items. I mean, they go so far as to ask you bring things in a tub not a bag or whatever. Hmmm. But I appreciate that they are nitpicky about what they'll buy and resale because that means you can trust your purchase. I never worry about a missing button or a snagged zipper. This is only my second time coming to the store a friend of mine recommended checking Plato's closet because I practically live in once upon a child. I have to say they are wildly different. Once upon a child feels inviting they know my name there they know my daughter is here the employees talking laughing looks like a very fun place to work you walk into Plato's closet it feels like a funeral or very very quiet library nobody's laughing no one's talking customers look miserable the employees look miserable not to mention every time I go to try to sell something there they never take anything meanwhile they say they're outdated or not the right style but I walk around and some of the clothes are crap haven't been in style for years probably seen it at Karma's. Pros - large selection, ok prices on most items, many dressing rooms. Cons - horrible customer service, employees are rude, clothes are filthy, the store smells dirty (worse than Goodwill). For example, one time I went into the ADA changing room with a handicapped friend needing assistance trying on clothes. An employee banged on the door and yelled for me to get out. I explained the situation and had also to explain ADA laws in order to assist. Terrible... Smelled like reheated Chinese food when we first walked in the store. Employees with their heads down not really talking or helping. Stood in like for 15+ minutes because only one register was open and the other employees were tasking instead of helping ring with a line that was at least 20 customers deep. This Platos Closet is awful. I had three large trashbags of clothes to bring in and sell. I walked in and there was a man in front of me arguing with one of the employees about how he had just called the store 15 minutes ago and they had told him they were accepting clothes today. When he arrived, they werent. This was the second time i had drove 45 minutes to this Platos Closet only for them to tell me they were not accepting any more clothes. The employees were very rude and not understanding at all. I drove about a mile down the road to Planet Xchange and they took my clothes with no problem at all. I would not recommend trying to resell your old or unwanted clothes here. I tried to take a few garbage bags full of various clothes of mine that I have outgrown, don't ware, or are just old. Once I got back, it had seem has though they didn't take anything. They said they took 3 items. Out of 3 trash bag fulls. This place is a joke. If I could leave 0 stars, I would. I brought in 6 packing boxes full of clothes and they offered me $11.20 for 4 items. Their reasoning for not taking the clothes was that they were "youth size and worn." Which is crap because there were several pieces that still had the tags on them and most of the time I brought in were clothes that I wore once or twice while pregnant and couldn't wear during my whole pregnancy or after. When I returned to pick up my clothes, I told the manager my name and another employee interrupted me to ask for a smoke break, then she didn't even turn back around to hear my answer to the question she asked. They don't take clothes from department stores with tags. Mostly Target, TJ Maxx rejects, Forever 21 faded and poorly made when new, not better used! A $200 Banana Republic tag on Trench coat.. me and my cousin went in to sell a bunch of clothes we never wear and they were all name brand clothes and shoes. 2 pairs of vans shoes that have barely been worn, hollister jeans, american eagle clothes, a pair of air forces that were in good condition, and jordan's that looked brand new. they told us they couldn't take anything we sent in because it wasn't in season and it wouldn't sell well. we both sent in two bags and they only went through one each of ours, even though they had st patrick's shoes on a rack. read more

A resale shop in which you bring your gently used clothing and accessories to sell and get no where near the amount you paid for them in return. I always bring in a few trash bags and the most I've made is $100. That doesn't even cover the cost of the True Religion jeans they bought from me! Basically they pay you a few bucks, then turn around and mark it way up to turn a profit. The only person making $$ off of your clothes, is Plato's closet. If you were to shop there: I bring in nice stuff, but they do buy a lot of fake Coach bags and Wal-Mart tops that have shrunk from the dryer. I don't recommend shopping there. Even if you don't have much money to spend on clothes, I'd still go to Goodwill. read more

When I clean out my closet, this is where I bring some of my clothes. They literally give you peanuts considering all the money you probably spent on the clothes. I really don't get why people hate this place so much. My daughter is a huge thrifter and up-cycler. We live nearby, so she went here and loved it. There are so many name brand things that would be twice the price somewhere else. Each time we have gone there, the workers have been nice to us. They are not rude to us or anything like that. Some of the workers are very kind and smile. It would be nice if other workers could put a little more pep in their job, but besides that I think it's a great place. If you donate clothes, you will most likely only get one or two things actually taken. They are very picky on what they take, but I understand that. This place has gone downhill so bad. Clothes are on shelves in mixed sizes, and it takes an act of Congress to get a fitting room. I had an armful of clothes I wanted to buy when I went in there but the line was so long it was wrapped around through the middle of the store. At least 15+ people, and only one girl was working the register, although I counted 4 people working. Nobody wanted to wait 30 minutes or longer to check out, getting people rang up is more important than folding clothes imo. read more

While shopping at platos is a breeze, selling your clothes to them is just the opposite. You really have to be timely and careful about what days/time of year you send in your clothes. On busier days they take almost nothing (i.e. clothes i bought from platos, i.e. brands listed on their website, i.e. good condition trendy clothes.) On a good day, Platos might take 6 things out of every one trash bag of good clothes you bring in...Otherwise they take nothing and they do not pay you a lot of money for the clothes either. In other words! It is best to look on their website for what they do/do not take because it really changes with the seasons but selling your clothes at Platos regardless is just a game of roulette‍ read more

I have taken clothes here a few times since my last review and I have to say it's not gotten much better... they claim items are "worn out" or "stained". First of all, I wouldn't bring stained clothing to try to be sold... that's what yardsales are for... or donations. Secondly, the clothes I bring in are the same styles and brands they "claim to accept" but what they don't tell you is that they don't really take what they say they do. Wait times usually aren't that bad, but the customer service is terrible here! There is one girl that is nice most of the times I've seen her in there but everyone else would just rather stand behind the counter and gossip and joke around... it's like hell freezing over to get someone to open a dressing room without getting an attitude over it. Meh...sometimes you can find a good buy, but make sure you double check your items for tears and stains before you purchase. Watch out for cameras viewable overhead the dressing rooms. Can they see you undressing?!? The customer service definitely sucks. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Even if I haven't been for 6 months the employees always remember me and are so sweet. I shop next door for my child so often my four year old is with me. They are always so good to my son even when he isn't acting as well behaved as he should. I love the clothes and the store is always so tidy. Very very surprised by how many good finds I came across here. When I first saw the men's section, there didn't seem to be that many items. However, I encountered and purchased some really cool stuff that (I don't mean to brag, but...) I get compliments on all the time. This store is horrible. I have brought in clothing to sell a few times, but after my last experience, I will NOT be coming back. Their customer service is horrible. I have never encountered a nice associate when I have came in to sell clothing. They are all very rude and should not be working in a job that requires customer service. Also, what they offer for items is kind of insulting. I took designer clothes in (Ralph Lauren, Micheal Kors, Miss Me, etc) to sell. Knowing and not expecting to get retail value out of them, but at least $20 for the bag I brought in, I was HIGHLY disappointed leaving the store.
