Very discriminatory phone call with Guri , he is very condescending and extremely racist
    Kamilah B.

I am a member of several Plato's closets across the United States. However, this one is very discriminatory of people of color and minorities. Guri needs to be fired as well as his counterparts. He has his family and their follow around the store when you are in there to spend money. On Black Friday, I visited the store at 9:24 AM, as documented on my receipt. During that visit, I observed significant issues with the quality of merchandise, as well as inconsistencies and inaccuracies within the rewards system. The explanations I received from employees regarding points, returns, and refunds were contradictory and misleading. These issues alone indicated a breakdown in proper training, compliance, and standard operating procedures. However, the situation escalated into something far more serious on the day I called the store at 12:21 PM to address these concerns. The employee who answered the phone was dismissive, condescending, and repeatedly refused my requests to speak with a manager. He went as far as claiming I had not been in the store that morning despite objective proof on my receipt. What followed was not merely unprofessional--it was deeply discriminatory and emotionally distressing. Without placing me on hold, the employee set the phone down, leaving the line open. During that time, I overheard him speaking to another associate about me using offensive language, including a racial slur, and stating that he was "tired of hearing" me. When I later asked him to repeat himself because he was speaking too quickly, he responded by asking me, "Are you slow?" This was not a misunderstanding. It was not a moment of frustration. It was targeted verbal abuse, mockery, and discrimination, and it left me shocked, humiliated, and genuinely hurt. No customer--no person--should ever be spoken to in such a degrading and prejudiced manner.

My visit to Plato's Closet was an absolute inspiration. This is so much more than a resale store; it is a vital contributor to a better world, perfectly embodying the shift toward intentional consumption. Instead of contributing to waste, Plato's Closet is a community cornerstone that gives beautiful, quality clothing a purposeful second life. The inventory is always fresh, trendy, and so well-organized--it truly makes the thrill of the hunt accessible. Every purchase here is a small, conscious step in the right direction. It's affordable, it's stylish, and most importantly, it's a powerful statement about respecting our planet and our resources. If you believe, as I do, that our world is completely fixable, places like this are proof of concept. Thank you to the incredible staff for maintaining such a welcoming and high-quality establishment. Keep up the phenomenal work in building a brighter, more stylish, and sustainable future for all of us!

My ripped bag I was blamed for and the trash bag he so "graciously" gave me.

Today I went to this Plato's (never had a problem at any other location) to sell clothes. The man at the front had an attitude on entry when I simply asked if they were doing buys today. I signed in and gave them my stuff. When I got the notification to come back I see my bag is ripped. He proceeded to yell at me and blame me for my bag being overfilled. I said sorry (even though they ripped it). He acted like he was doing me a favor giving me a trash bag for my stuff. I then accepted the offer of my 3 items. When reaching for the money I was told to "BACK UP" and he placed it on the table. I've never been treated like that anywhere. I will never go back to this location ever again. I definitely feel like it was racially motivated. Absolutely unacceptable behavior.

Best thrift shop I've been to. Clean and good variety of stuff. I visited a few Plato closets and this one's my favorite.

I had an appointment for 12pm June 19. I called, spoke with the owner three weeks prior as I was searching for a local stylist to get a wash, deep condition, semi permanent color or rinse and pixie cut. I explained the main thing I wanted done was color to remove the salt and pepper gray. I emailed Aleta a picture of the pixie as she requested so she could see the cut in advance. I paid in full online (premium rate $$$) 4 days before the app. 1. I arrived at 11:45am for the 12pm. appointment Aleta was not there, I was told she just left and they wasn't sure where she went or when she was coming back. No one seemed to know there was an appointment scheduled at 12pm. I waited 45 minutes before I got my hair washed and conditioned and she was not back. Did not return until sometime later. 2. After the deep condition, hair was about to be blow dried. I asked bout the color. The young lady went to Aleta to ask and Aleta says rudely "oh, she's not getting color.. I don't have her down for that, she said nothing about color". I can hear her and I said "excuse me, yes I did tell you, that was the main thing I was coming in for when we spoke for 10 minutes on the phone". She said to give her a minute to sort it out.. There was also an issue with the deposit, said it wasn't paid when I paid in full prior to the appointment.. I was so angry., I had to wait and now this! 3. Aleta then comes over introduces herself and says she confused me with someone else and they found the payment and she asked if I was allergic to hair dye, I told her I wasn't allergic and she goes on to say color or rinse was out of the question because I need a patch test which included waiting 48 hour to make sure I wasn't allergic. I said why wasn't that mention 3 weeks ago? I would have came in and did it if that was required! She never gave a straight answer and didn't even apologize for being late, confusing me with someone else etc. 4. I then showed her the picture of the pixie cut from the original email I sent her, since she didn't remember the phone call, confused me with someone else and never opened the email after previous asking for it. I told her I was very upset about not getting the color, I didn't feel like myself with salt and pepper, it made me look older than 52 years old and I was disappointed as it showed all over my face.. she showed NO empathy about that but went on to say her grandmother was in the hospital and she told me she had a special needs child. 5. The hair cut didn't even look like the picture. She curled my hair the way she wanted to curl it and had the audacity to ask if she could take a picture which showed she had no sympathy whatsoever about how I felt about my hair journey and what I wanted after I sat there and told her how I felt.. Yes, the curls looked nice if I wanted it curled the way, she did it the way she wanted to do it, and it looked nice if I wanted the salt and pepper hair color! She took her picture... and said I hope you come back again.. I just looked at her, and said nothing at the time because what I would have said would not have been nice, even though I was pissed, gave a very small tip because I did enjoy the shampoo and conditioning that was done by someone else and I said happy Juneteenth and walked out!!!! Paid premium prices to go straight home to put on a Luvme wig. Aleta is not someone that I will ever recommend, she seemed very nice and knowledgeable during the phone conversation but she is very off putting and uncaring. To not even be there and to keep a new client waiting that long and your team doesn't know where you are to inform the client the stylist is running late alone is crazy, along with everything else that occurred is unheard of! But thank God I found an amazing stylist named Latricia at Jazz Beauty Company in Cherry Hill, NJ. I did not need to wait 48 hours for color test and the pixie cut style is exactly like the picture I showed her and I hope no one ever experiences what I experienced at Styles By Aleta!!!!

From the moment I received a flyer in the mail last fall about it's opening, I have been intrigued by this store. Their concept is very unique, and the displays are one of a kind. Everything is organized in colorized sections, all laid out neatly in front of you. They have everything from necklaces, bracelets, earrings and scarves, to shoes, sandals, sunglasses, and hair accessories. And the list goes on! In back there's a lovely little 'cafe' set up for you to take a break, browse the current fashion magazines, sip some fresh brewed flavorful coffee, and nibble on a free cookie or two! Once you're energy's returned, hit the floor again for another loop or two- just to be sure you didn't miss something the first few times around! Suffice it to say, I could spend hours here, and have turned my friends on to this place as well, I love taking someone for the first time and seeing their face lite up! The staff is friendly and accomodating, and the prices are hard to beat! Don't forget to sign up for their FREE club- which gives you email updates, and the awesome bonus of $10 to spend in their store for every $100 you purchase. Yes, ladies, I have met this quota many times over! ;-) Their inventory is always changing, so if you see something you love, snatch it up and don't think twice- it will probably be gone by the time you come back. Each item is hand-selected by their buyers, guaranteeing your unique bauble probably won't be adorning many others necks, ears, or wrists! So enjoy every minute of it, as I'm sure you will!
