I am a member of several Plato's closets across the United States. However, this one is very discriminatory of people of color and minorities. Guri needs to be fired as well as his counterparts. He has his family and their follow around the store when you are in there to spend money. On Black Friday, I visited the store at 9:24 AM, as documented on my receipt. During that visit, I observed significant issues with the quality of merchandise, as well as inconsistencies and inaccuracies within the rewards system. The explanations I received from employees regarding points, returns, and refunds were contradictory and misleading. These issues alone indicated a breakdown in proper training, compliance, and standard operating procedures. However, the situation escalated into something far more serious on the day I called the store at 12:21 PM to address these concerns. The employee who answered the phone was dismissive, condescending, and repeatedly refused my requests to speak with a manager. He went as far as claiming I had not been in the store that morning despite objective proof on my receipt. What followed was not merely unprofessional--it was deeply discriminatory and emotionally distressing. Without placing me on hold, the employee set the phone down, leaving the line open. During that time, I overheard him speaking to another associate about me using offensive language, including a racial slur, and stating that he was "tired of hearing" me. When I later asked him to repeat himself because he was speaking too quickly, he responded by asking me, "Are you slow?" This was not a misunderstanding. It was not a moment of frustration. It was targeted verbal abuse, mockery, and discrimination, and it left me shocked, humiliated, and genuinely hurt. Today I went to this Plato's (never had a problem at any other location) to sell clothes. The man at the front had an attitude on entry when I simply asked if they were doing buys today. I signed in and gave them my stuff. When I got the notification to come back I see my bag is ripped. He proceeded to yell at me and blame me for my bag being overfilled. I said sorry (even though they ripped it). He acted like he was doing me a favor giving me a trash bag for my stuff. I then accepted the offer of my 3 items. When reaching for the money I was told to "BACK UP" and he placed it on the table. I've never been treated like that anywhere. I will never go back to this location ever again. I love that I'm not just getting rid of items -- I'm giving them a second life for people who really deserve them, and getting paid on the spot. It's such a win-win. Sure, the men's section is smaller, so you might not be able to sell as many items as women can, but still -- try to find another place that gives you cash immediately for your clothes. I come in with a bag on clothes to sell and I'm standing at the front waiting for help while there were three workers behind the counter for about 10 minutes. I bought 4 pairs of jeans for my daughter yesterday. I explained to the woman checking me out that it is hard to find jeans that fit her. The sales clerk said that's not a problem, just return them with the receipt in 7 days and you'll get a full refund. My daughter didn't fit in 3 of the jeans so I came back today with the receipt to return them and get my refund. I was told they were clearance so no exchange. They were NOT on clearance. If you're going to run a clothes for cash system, make me wait up to an hour, and then proceed to tell me that none of the items in my four bags can be exchanged (even though majority of the items were less than two years old), could an associate at the very least help me move the four overflowing bags of "unsellable" clothing to my car. I understand people are busy, but thats basic customer service. This being said, this review is not a condemnation of a specific employee, rather the policies and standards of Plato's Closet. Do not take this review as a reason to endanger any associates job. This store does, however, accept clothing with broken straps and cheap fabric garments with shein and fashion nova labels. Even if my clothes are too old to be sellable, at least they've lasted more than two years. Vintage will get paid for over mall clothes at a slight discount (and before assumptions are made, i had undamaged high quality leather jackets included in my bags). I honestly wouldn't be surprised if people were just buying shein sales, and then turning it into your system for some extra cash. People need money, and your company needs clothes that can last more than 6 months on the shelves without 50 cent zippers breaking in the dressing rooms. The young lady looked blindly trying to skirt the issue and keep the high end jeans. Plates closet is a rip off. They pretend to not recognize brand names and then offer a extremely low return. They also can be seen picking and choosing which customers to return a higher value to based on their items. I observed on three occasions customers having the same valued items and then being given a greater cash return. Once it's my turn they offer 7 bucks or 10 bucks for a large amount of items. Was by far the worst Platos Closet I've ever gone to. It was not only a mess inside, but I'm just so confused with how they sort through their clothes. There was so much actual trash in there like maybe people just leave stuff there so they just sell it??? They also tried to buy a $190 brand new pair of jeans from me with tags for $2. (Was selling because it was too late to take back) When they were sorting through my stuff there was a big line and the two girls sorting were taking their time and just chatting barely looking at the clothes. I was in this store today and drove 25 minutes when Plato's closet deptford is 5 minutes from my house to shop there 30% off all athletic pants. I brought a pair of navy blue Nike Run Club Joggers to the register and was told that they were not included in the sale. I commented under there instagram post advertising the sale and said it was false advertisement as the Nike Run Club joggers were not a part of the Athletic Pants sale. They preceded to DM on instagram and block me immediately. I think my 8 year old niece would of been more professional then the employees at this establishment. read more

I have tried to sell my clothes here 2 x in the last week and unfortunately each time I've been sent away. First time, I arrived at 1PM to be told that they were done buying for today (selling begins at 12 PM). The second time (today at exactly 12PM) I was told that they were focusing on "inventory" and not buying for today. The girl trying to sell next to me came from Philly and had two hefty garbage bags to sell. There were also two more cars in the parking lot who had to leave. Next I brought 2 bags oz my husbands Carhart shorts tees and Northface tees and shorts . the bags were packed full. I was told my clothes were "too worn out or too old" when two heaping bags were handed back to me. Since several of them still had tags on -- and even more were only worn once or twice -- I assume the "too old" referred to the styles rather than the age or condition. It seems I've grown out of Plato's Closet, but maybe they should advertise their preferences better. When you walk into this secondhand shop with clothes to sell, you go up to one of the kiosks at the cash register and input your information. There are a variety of ways to choose how you'll come back to get your clothes. I picked the "text me" option when faced with an hour wait, which I'd assume is the most popular. Just about an hour later, I received a text and made my way back. That's when my clothes were returned, aside from two older Old Navy shirts. For my efforts, I was given a buck per shirt (woo-hoo...?) and an awkward smile. They turned their noses up at year-old Loft shirts, a gorgeous Guess dress, and a classic Calvin Klein dress, among others. Fortunately, three of my friends were able to benefit from Plato's miss. I'm so glad my not-worn-out, fairly new clothes made it to good homes. I won't bother patronizing Plato's Closet in the future. read more

For Sellers: Unless your stuff is pretty new or recent, don't expect them to take much. It's interesting how "selective" they are but I've found items in the store with stains and holes. I think depends on the person checking the items and the mood they are in at the time. I've taken stuff back that was rejected once and it's accepted the next time. If the reject it there are other consignment places like Greene Street that will take your stuff. You just have to wait for your $. For Buyers: Check your items carefully and try them on. I've gotten home and found items with stains, holes, rips or non working zippers. The return process is lengthy and I've wondered if they do that on purpose in order to get people not to return items. I've seen the prices go up over the last 2 - 3 years. Some so high that I'd rather get the item new. With those tips in mind you may find some good deals if you're patient. read more

I sat and waited 10 minutes for the employee to say "Oh yeah we're not buying today". Asked politely to leave the items to be checked for the next day for the employee to tell me "no". Platos closest buys items every single day that they're open, it's just pure laziness by the employees that they don't feel like doing their job. I was a Shift Manager at Plato's Closet and worked there for two years so i understand the deal. I usually don't like to complain about people not taking certain things since i knew what it was like. I took in two big trash bags full of good clothes i had vintage harley davidson tees, nice loafers from H&M, brand new hunter green dickies pants, the whole nine yards. None of that was taken except for 6 items. they don't tell you why the items weren't taken, nor show you what they took which is what we were supposed to do when i worked there. Yet when i look at the racks there are things that are clearly passed the 18 month trend period, items that have been worn down to the thread, and things that a person my age (i'm 23) would absolutely not buy. Maybe the buyers need a better training on what will actually accumulate sales and i'm sure the reviews below mine reflect this statement too. This is the only Plato's Closet I have been to, mostly because it is next to Tacconelli's. I would come here and look at the sale racks, I have found blazers/jackets by Ralph Lauren, Silence and Noise(UO Brand), and J Crew for less than $10 each. This location seems to have a more teenage clientele so finding pieces that will work in my business casual office is pretty easy. The store is not very big, and I haven't tried selling anything to them but I plan on bringing some clothes soon. I will report back. read more
