Good selling experience. They were super quick to review my items and get back to me. I sold a lot of athletic apparel and they took a lot of it. I can't say as much on how selling would do on other items, but if you're aware of what items they are typically trying to sell you'll be able to sell your stuff. I brought a bunch of clothes in to this location to sell. They told me it would take 30 minutes to an hour which is reasonable for how many items i brought in. It took them half an hour to go through 4 trash bags of clothes. When I came back they told me they couldn't make an offer for anything I brought in the store. I had probably 100 different items ranging from casual wear to cute dresses. Not a single item they wanted. While this would normally be okay with me since I have a more unique style, when I took my bags of clothes back to my car, the bags were untouched. Not only did they not go through the bags, everything was exactly how I put them in, exactly how I folded them in the order I put them in. I brought in items id previously bought from Plato's closet and never worn thinking I could get a could a couple cents for them but no. Didn't expect much and just wanted to see what's the selling experience with this store. So I brought the bag with the items that were not taken with style encore ( added two new items in the bag) And they took one item only out of the bag, and surprisingly, the amount of cash offered was pretty close to the style encore ( style encore takes 3-4 small items from my two-time sales) and the amount is around $14-15 The staff of Plato's gave me the excuse of the items not taken: the style of the remaining items were out of date. I am not offended and figured out that there maybe a upper limit of the cash offer per sale, and the items taken are based on the tastes/preferences who go over the items. But I would suggest them use better wordings such as: the style of the remaining items were not what we are looking for currently (style encore is much clever in this, lol) The inventory in the store is a bit unorganized, and the pricing is average. Went to drop off a rather large shopping bag with over 20 jeans, a few dresses and short rompers, heels and flats to be sold. Got notified within 5 minutes after leaving that my drop off was ready. Was told that my things were out of style and they were very selective at the time. I have NEVER been told that at the other locations. Because I moved, this was closest. My things were purchased within the last year so I know for sure they weren't out of "style." I am not one for calling out racism because that's the last thought on my mind. But it really makes you wonder when you are at checkout next to a Caucasian female that had all 5+ of her garbage bags purchased. Just sad. Do better. read more

I loved it! Me and my friends were in there trying on heels. We were kinda goofying around nobody complained or made fun of us(at least not to our faces) A lady even asked me what my favorite pair of heels were and I pointed out to a purple pair that had matched my outfit. Everyone one was nice and chill. I may be a little biased because one of my close friends sister works at one, but everyone made my first experience there good. But they really have some cute stuff and have a good section of shoes and heels I'm definitely coming back to get more!! read more

The BEST Plato's in the area. I have never sold to them so rating not based off of that. However, everytime I go here I leave happy as can be. Their selection is great for all size ranges, they have name brand products in great shape for unbelievably low prices, and the staff works so hard to keep their store stocked, plus are always accommodating and friendly. Don't even try to sell here. Most their locations won't take anything, and this one's the worst. Multiple times I've gone in with a bag or two of items. Most times they look at one or two pieces on the top and then just call the bag/bin done. I've tried four times total in the last year ish to sell to them and they've purchased nothing. Thoroughly impressed with my experience today! In the past the employees have seemed in a hurry, uninterested, lack eye contact, and burnt out. However today was the exact opposite! I complimented the staff on how friendly and personable they were! Apparently the store is under new management and it did not go unnoticed. Bring your gently used clothes and they will buy them from you! You are allowed to leave the store and a text will be sent to your phone when they finish going through your things. read more

I drove from the Overland Park location to this one and I was amazed. My experience at Overland Park was awful. I was literally scared of the manager lady. I walked inside the Mission location worried I was going to get barked at again (especially considering how much busier they were), but I was greeted professionally and kindly by what seemed to be the manager. She ran me through the buying process, I waited in my car, and came in when they texted me. They bought all but three items in an almost full bin (same clothes the Overland Park store didn't even look at). If you're closer to the Overland Park store, it's worth the drive to head to the Mission location instead. read more

I'm a college student and I'm visiting home for my birthday weekend. I brought my clothes into plato's to sell and they told me they'd text me when they were done sorting and it was supposed to be only 30 min. It was nowhere near 30 min. It turned into 2 and a half hours and I had birthday dinner plans and now I can't make it to them because they took their sweet time, all for them to take not even a a fourth of my clothes because they are being very "selective" right now as if half the shit in their store is butt ugly and worn out. I absolutely love this store and they sincerely care about their customers! I have a health situation that forbids me from wearing a mask and I have been at a loss thinking there's no way to go in public or enter a store. Much to my surprise, compassion wins the day! They pick and choose with those who go in to sell, if your not white don't bother. There also just straight up rude so don't expect much. I went in with 2 full bags with cloths not worn at all with tags or worn once including shoes and heels in honesty great condition. I left and within 5 minutes they said it was ready and only offered 2$ for a pair of new crocs that they would have probably sold for like 20$. The twink at the counter takes the job to seriously and looks like he should be piercing ears at Clair's. And the girl with a interesting build and long curly crunchy looking black hair doesn't have manners caught her many times just laughing and smirking cause she found it funny that they only offered 2$ for the crocs. Everything in the bags were trendy cloths I'm 17 just trying to get rid of stuff since I'm always buying cloths and my closets are full so it's not like they didn't want to buy cause they were out of style or not I'm good condition cause again it was either new with tags or worn once with no tears or holes so I don't recommend coming here. Not even for shopping i took a look myself and looks like the clearance sections from forever 21. read more

This store really disappoints me. Every time I go to sell they tell me my stuff is worthless and outdated when it will be brand new with tags. The employees are rude and don't care about anything but themselves! The store is unorganized and it's honestly not worth going to. You'll get $2 for something and they'll turn around and sell it for $25! I am only complaining about this location. This store usually has good selection of clothing! I was in the other day for the clearance sale and was expecting to get 90% off due to what I saw online. When I got to the register I was informed that the sale was only 70%. I was a little disappointed since I had driven 35 mins to shop and was hoping to find the best deal possible. Apparently the cooperate office changed the days of the sale to Saturday and Sunday only. I wasn't aware of that and was just going by what I had seen and double checked online. The girl working (Jamie) was very nice and honored the 90% off for my mom and I, which was very appreciated by us both! Worst Plato's Closet in the area. I was a regular at this Plato's Closet because I could find some items at a decent price. The last few months, this place has really gone down hill. The prices on some items are way overpriced for what it is. The quality of the items they purchase has gone down along with hiking the prices up. The staff/employees are really immature and careless. The employees horse around or talk about inappropriate things in front of shoppers. I added some photos to prove how the quality of items they are purchasing have gone down. I found a pair of no name boots that looks like a dog chewed on them for $13. I also found a pair of Target rain boots caked in mud for $13. I work at a thrift store and we wouldn't even sell chewed up/muddy shoes for $2. We would donate them to a local homeless shelter. This place is lacking good management! read more

Much like Ditto, and I really don't like Ditto. I took in multiple pairs of shoes many of them worn 2 maybe 3 times and was low balled b/c they were "worn". Most of the shoes were suede or suede like and all heels. They all had boxes (bc i take care of my things) and the ones they wanted to buy were thrown into a bin so they could all scratch and damage/wear. They offered a JOKE for 5 pairs in including BCBG and Madden. While i was waiting I looked around. They had jam packed racks, making it hard to search and the shoes EVERYWHERE (but not in a good way). Even some that were so worn the heel did not have the cap on it. (But lets ding someone for box wear). It was a warmer day and the racks in the windows were getting a beating from the sun, warming them so that the faint smell of body odor was coming from the racks. Needless to say I won't be back to this location. read more

I swear every time I walk into this store the girls there are so rude and always giving judge mental stares. I came in with a friend one time and was helping her find clothes for an interview and stood by the counter for what felt like forever. One girl was tagging clothes not asking anyone else in line if they need help while one was checking someone out so slow the other customers were making remakes about how the store was so dead that there was only two ppl working. I had to literally announce myself to the tall blonde and all she said was "oh can I help you?" In the rudest tone ever. Like yes??? I've been standing here for over 10 minutes. Worst experience with this location. The staff is very rude, and they have poor customer service when checking out and buying items. I had heard things about this location and now I'm convinced it's true. My first visit I went to sell clothing and they bought 1 item out of bin full of clothing (some new with tags) and said it was peeling and faded. The second time I went I took another batch of clothes and they said it had an infestation of bed bugs and they place my container outside on the floor. I've never had bed bugs and if I did I'm sure I would've caught an infestation long before they would have. Will be reporting this location to several regulatory agencies. read more

After their remodel and new ownership, this Plato's might be my favorite location in the KC metro area. The staff is very friendly and well trained, the merchandise is higher quality for very inexpensive, and the new hardwood floors make the shopping experience feel much better. This is the worst Plato's Closet I've ever done business with. Every staff member I've encountered has been very rude. I called there and asked when they stoped buying and the woman on the phone interrupted me and said 7:00 about 5 times sarcastically. So I drove out there at 5:30 and walked up to the door and there was a sign that said they have stopped buying for the rest of the day and so I walked in and confirmed that, and told them that I had just called about 15 minutes prior. Horrible experience here. Manager (or woman in charge for that day) was messing around, playing with her baby, talking to her boyfriend, and eating Arby's instead of helping customers. I gave them my clothes, was told it would be 25 minutes, saw how busy they were and patiently waited for an hour to find out they didn't want any of my clothes and didn't have the curiosity to text me or call my name over the intercom. My name was no longer on the board, and I had been forgotten about. Almost all of my clothes were from J. Crew, so if you're wanting to sell back from this brand, go to another location. I have now gone to this Plato's closet twice to trade clothes and have left both times pretty content with how much they've taken. The store itself is a bit of a cluster to go through, but if you bring items to trade you will end up shopping as it tends to take a while for them to get through your stuff. There are always goodies to be found though. Just remember to dig..and be patient. read more
