Stopped donating here when I saw "volunteers" taking my stuff to their cars without putting it out for sale.

If you qualify for a discount & are buying for someone else don't mention it at the register or you might not get a discount for those items. And don't plan on getting any item you find without a price tag since they can't price it then but have to make sure this item they received for free gets priced high enough before they can sell it. I was with my daughter & was going to buy her items but since she was with me I couldn't use my discount. And the sweater she found for my granddaughter wasn't marked & they don't have set prices to refer to. read more

To relax I enjoy trying out new thrift stores and meandering down the aisles to see what they have to offer. I stopped in to TurnStyles today, I haven't been here in a year. It has your basics of most thrift stores with tending to have more mature style clothing. They have a section in the back that appears to be items that were overstocked and new with good prices on those items. I tend to go for books and they unfortunately have a poor selection of books. They have nice staff and it's is generally neat and orderly. read more

So I came back to this place on Monday because Sunday it was closed, and I'm glad I did. The prices are very inexpensive and it's pretty organized. Looking from the outside I thought it would be much bigger but there were some good finds. It wasn't too crowded and I checked out pretty quickly. The reason I gave them 4 stars is because there are only 3 dressing rooms and it seems to always be full. And they were a bit dirty. I had a lot of crumpled tissue balls on the floor and clothes still in there from another person trying on things and leaving them, but there was enough space for me to try on things and be comfortable at the same time. They have a good selection of clothing, furniture, household goods, shoes, books, and more. I would definitely Recommend this place first. I went to another place called Savers which was much bigger but it was more expensive. I would definitely come back here whenever I'm in town. read more

I have recently moved to the area and this was the first thrift store I went to. I chose it because of the great ratings and reviews. I was NOT disappointed! They had a great selection of clothing, household items, books and furniture. The store was clean and organized. They have great sales throughout the week. I will definitely be back! The manager, Anthony, was an absolute delight! He helped us navigate through the store, introduced himself and was a pleasure to chat with while we purchased our items. Not the biggest thrift store, but I usually seem to find something to get. The volunteers are great but checkout is always super slow. I don't know if the machines are just hard to use or something, but always budget extra time for checking out. The home decor and furniture section in this store is REALLY nice. My 15 year old daughter did community service with them yesterday for 8 hours. She left that place crying so hard that my husband had to go in and asked what happened. Apparently no one seems to know why she was bawling her eyes out. 3 old hags were constantly harassing my daughter and she felt like she was targeted because of how she looked. Is $4-a-gallon gas behind Overland Park's thrift store boom? I've heard news reports that charities around the country are selling their inventory as quickly as it comes in; but is that because donations have slowed down, or because more people are shopping at thrift stores out of necessity? I decided to find out by checking out a couple of recent additions to the 87th & Farley area. Turnstyles was the first store I visited. It's run by Catholic Charities and operates with the mission of helping those who might otherwise fall through the cracks. Turnstyles is probably three times larger than its neighboring thrift store, so there's a larger variety of items for sale. You can find clothing, furniture, housewares, electronics, toys - even antiques. To me the odds and ends were the coolest stuff, with everything from empty eight-packs pop bottles to baby bathtubs and Neil Diamond cassettes. Talk about doing the Time Warp! If you suddenly find yourself without the necessities of life, you can find most of them - reasonably clean and in good shape - at Turnstyles. On the other hand, if you have a spare bed or light fixture, donate them to Turnstyles. Plenty of people could use them. read more

Best furniture winner amongst the ten KC area thrifts I visited; contemplated shipping charges for the lovely chairs and end tables (back to Virginia, so took a pass). Furniture somewhat higher priced than usual thrift, but was stylish and in good condition. Clothing was stylish with some new with tags, beautiful vintage plates, Very nice staff. Good experience; go here if furnishing a home with an eye to both style and budget. This place is fabulous. The clothes selection is awesome. They have a ton of books. The best thing is the cleanliness of the store.

I love thrift stores and have been searching for a good one since I moved back to Kansas City from the Lake of the Ozarks. Today I went online and found TurnStyles. It's a bit of a drive for me, but with the good reviews it seemed well worth it. When I arrived it seemed like a normal thrift store, clothes, shoes, purses etc... but it wasn't until I started searching through the racks that I became a convert. I found REAL vintage pieces. Yes they were mixed in with some t-shirts from Old Navy, but again, real vintage. I ended up buying some amazing blouses that would have cost at least $30 on Etsy. I also found 2 amazing vintage blazers that are satin lined, 100% wool, absolutely gorgeous. So I was lucky enough to come on a day where all clothes were half price. I purchased 7 blouses and 2 blazers and spent $19. Yes, that's right. So I totally recommend checking this place out. I am in love. read more

In about 40 minutes I bought: 4 skirts & 4 long-sleeved shirts/sweaters, all from well known & reputable clothing manufacturers, all in excellent condition (a couple things even still had their original full-price hang tags); 8 skeins of still-factory-wound yarn in 2 colors (enough for a baby blanket or a basic sweater). Grand total: 27 smackers. Fo' real. I am clothed for a work-week and entertained in front of my tv in the evenings for about a month, *and* I supported charity. Word to your self-serving philanthropy. Hidden bonus: no hipster-judgment from the folks running the place (as I sense in other secondhand spots in the area more concerned with status). The volunteer staff are awesomely nice on every level. read more

There's something to be said about a well organized thrift store. To find clothes that are actually smalls under the "small" section, or to find Holiday clothing on its own separate rack (which I know where to go for those pesky Ugly Christmas Sweater parties this year). It does take some digging to find good finds here, like any thrift store I suppose, but most likely you will find something worth buying. The clothes here actually look like they've been cleaned before entering the racks (Catholic goodwill maybe?) And don't forget to check out the back area, full of furniture, books, records (though, it was a pretty lame selection--another Catholic screening perhaps...?), and random stuff (including ribbon, stationary and really old VHS tapes). Its right across from the library, and it looks like they get new shipments in pretty often, so its worth checking out every so often. Prices are pretty cheap too. read more

We hit turn styles towards the end of the day. It was swamped. People lookomg for furniture, clothing and everything in between. The staff was busy but kind. I had to figure out how the sale of the day worked but once I read the signs it was easy to figure out. A lot of good quality items and a friendly atmosphere. read more

Small. Clean with nice Employees. Lots of dish ware, especially punchbowls! Huge amount of brass pieces. So many it was odd. Pretty small relative to most. Free bread and baked goods at the entrance. No real stand outs on products. read more

One of my favorites on my thrift shopping spree. Every thing is organized nicely. Prices on most things are a flat fee. So that is good. Found quite a few name brand things here. And the nice Monday volunteers gave me ideas of other shops to hit but I hit those on Friday. Two bags of clothes (oodles of shirts and 5 pairs of pants) for $31. Not bad. I am giving this store four stars even though my visit ended horribly and I was unable to make a purchase. It was not the fault of this lovely store with excellent, low priced merchandise, or the two very polite (and patient) older gentlemen who were working during my visit. It was the fault of two very rude and manipulative female customers who refused to take no for an answer while trying to ask for special deals and lower prices on their gigantic carts full of merchandise on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Everyone else in line was grumbling about this and I had other places to be and had to regretfully put my intended purchases aside. With all of this said, I found so much cool stuff here and I will most definitely return to Turnstyles on my next visit to the area. Fingers crossed the two rude customers won't be there on that day. Was glad to finally have the chance to stop in here. Maybe I got lucky, but I walked out with SEVEN sweaters at $4/each, and a package of used hangers (I love recycling!) After I ended up with all the sweaters I didn't let myself peruse the other items or other sections of the store. Similar to most of your Good Will or Savers stores, but on a slightly smaller scale. Will definitely put this on my list of preferred second hand stores. read more

I like this store. The clothes are usually in better shape than other stores. However, when I tried to use my rewards card they would not allow me to. I spent a lot of money racking up the points, then they refuse to allow me to use it, saying I had not spent enough money. read more

Very nice thrift store. Lots of well priced merchandise, easily organized. The place is clean and the employees are friendly. Always find something when I go there! Just wanted to add that there are two turnstyles in the area, I'd really recommend going to this one and skipping the one in Olathe. This thrift store sets the bar high compared to other ones I've visited in this area. This place is so clean, organized and the people working here are extremely friendly. I think it is Christian based and very nice elderly people are employed. I have found about a dozen real steals here and the prices are decent. This thrift has a lot of frames, art, glassware, and fun knick-knacks. I don't shop for clothing when I'm thrifting and I think that's why I love this place so much. They have clothing... but it isn't one of those stores with primarily clothing and 1 rack of other stuff. read more

It's ok. It does have a lot of stuff. The workers are usually pretty friendly. The drawback is that people don't know what sells for what. Often, you'll hear oh that item was marked wrong or this item shouldn't have been there. Ok, for clothes maybe, I don't know what customer moves what. Books though you can tell. Apparently they have "book ladies" who price weird. Old common books are more than the Halfprice bookstore. Even newer books that they want to put 6.00 on is more than the Halfprice bookstore. (Here's a tip: Halfprice is half the book price regardless of publication date. So when you price 6.00 on a book that is 7.99 or 8.99 you've outpriced yourself) I bought books for teens, it was in the teen section, it says on the back teensimonandschuster, but no, I'm told "the cover certainly doesn't look for teens, James Patterson is an adult writer, this book is too thick for teens, they have thin ones") Lastly, paperbacks are anywhere from .50-1.00 (unless the book ladies price them more) but I've been charged 1.00 on mmpb due to thickness. I don't get it but I guess it's for charity. I think they need to get their racks in order so if something is on a sales rack, it really is a sale. Fix the books, that's crazy to mark older common books in ok condition higher than better condition than the Half Price bookstore. If there is a price on something, honor it, don't say "oh this is a mistake, it should be 2.00 per glass for these glasses. You can see how pretty this glass is. I keep telling myself it's for charity but it should also be run like a business.. read more

I love thrift stores! This one is very hit or miss compared to others (and let's face it, by definition they're hit or miss--but 7 out of 10 times I don't find anything I want or need here). Clothes are very old lady, and not in the cool vintage way, either. Housewares are also usually not cool. But furniture is occasionally cool and affordable. read more

I love this place! The women who were working the store were as patient as Job as there was a large lot of ridiculous high school students acting like, well, ridiculous high school students. Having said that, the store was a winner to me as it had fantastic prices, the selection of beautiful antiques in the back was well worth the drive and I love love love the books I came away with. Great little thrift store with a lot of variety. There isn't as much depth to the categories they carry as some of the bigger chain thrift stores, but it is manned by a combination of paid and volunteer workers and the profits support Catholic Charities. The pricing can be a little erratic, but they currently have a color each week that is half price and the last time I was there they had 10 for $1.00 on some specially marked items. Unmarked glasses and mugs are usually .49, kids books are 3 for $1.00, and they put new merchandise out daily. They have furniture, artwork, clothing for the entire family, household items, etc. Definitely a store to check out if you haven't been there before. read more

The store was organized, and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was kinda hit and miss on selection, I found the women's clothes to be more on the older side. However my husband was able to find nice men's dress shirts and they had a nice rack of new with tags in the front of the store. Overall I think the store was okay. read more

Very well priced thrift store! Clothes are priced by category (long sleeve, short sleeve, children's, etc.) so you can find some really great deals! Toys are super cheap as well, but you have to do some digging as the section is pretty packed. Will definitely come back regularly. read more
