I've had several experiences with Plato's Closet, and I've noticed a decline in their customer service across the board. However, this particular location was the worst by far. I was informed that it would take about an hour to process my clothes, which I understood. When I returned at the one-hour mark, as they hadn't contacted me, it ended up taking two hours. During this time, my six-month-old was left crying for an unintended hour. Additionally, the staff were neither friendly nor welcoming; they seemed to act as though they were doing me a favor. Management here needs to do some major work. I'm never coming back to buy or sell. read more

Buyer beware! Teenage girls who work there barely acknowledge you when you enter the store let alone when you're ready to check out and spend your hard-earned money. Not to mention they sell counterfeit sneakers at ridiculous prices and have a no refund/no return policy on these same items. read more

Lots of great selections. I always bring a bag of my gently used clothes to sell & then use the cash from the sale to buy more new clothes. Have bought some awesome designer pieces very cheap. And cleaned out my closet. Win / win! read more

I called before I made my drive out here to ask what time they were going to stop accepting clothes to buy. I was told that they were stopping at 6:30 today since they were short staffed. I walk in at 6:00 and i'm told that they can't take my clothes anymore. I told the guy that a lady on the phone told me 6:30 and he just said that there's nothing they can do today and to come back tomorrow. They need to stand by their word or just tell me from the beginning on the phone that they couldn't take my clothes today due to being understaffed. Would've saved me time and gas. read more

Visited this location today, they were nice. It was very clean and organized. Shopping here is great, there's a variety of clothing choices, and prices are pretty good. Selling is different, they were very picky even with items that were never worn. read more

I've been here a few times to sell, and a few times just to look around. I buy almost all of my clothes pre-owned, so I'm glad there's a green, "recycled fashion" spot in Newnan! Unfortunately, my style is more vintage-y, and I've yet to find anything like that here-- It's mostly brands like Forever21 and what I would consider "Southern boutique" style. I am also disappointed that they don't have an option to trade in your clothes for 50% store credit like other places do. And the employees really need to be better trained about being respectful when looking through sellers' clothes! Take a lesson from other stores such as Buffalo Exchange or Rag-o-Rama in Atlanta (which are WAY better in my opinion). I had a great experience there last month.The girl at check out was delightful. I had to search a great deal but that's ok.I dont go to second hand stores expecting huge illumination.I am suprinlgly pleased with things I purchased .That is what seals my contentment.In this case ,it was jewlry.I think I spent $ 6 and found pieces that had value to me.I guess it is " Another man"s junk is another's treasure"? Plato's Closet might sound like a tutoring center or a small book store, (if you've heard of the philosopher) but it's actually an Earth friendly clothing shop! They will buy your "gently used brand name clothing & accessories" & pay cash, or you can shop among a broad selection of unique pieces with deep discounts. I'm torn between the "A-ok" & "yay! I'm a fan!" rating. On one hand, you may find literally one of a kind pieces like the red Korean jacket in the photo. Where else can you find that? South Korea, that's where! There was also a hand made Korean two piece skirt & top lace outfit which was beautiful! (sorry no photo of that one!) & some nice brand name exercise gear & clothing I literally own. Personally, I think I found some great items at great prices. I found a long sleeved green dress which gave me an inspiration for an alien halloween costume! I also found some Ann Taylor Loft shorts with the store tags still attached! However, the selection can be hit or miss. There were several dresses I was interested in, only to observe they had holes or shoddy repairs that either aren't worth the time or money to fix. Please see the photo which features a worn jacket. I have a feeling the designer didn't intend this. I can imagine finding something like this in a random thrift store, but I expect more from Plato's Closet. I think they need to take out these pieces to be recycled (or upcycled into a halloween costume, lol) I admit, I don't have the "trendiest" look, but I like more classic stuff. I looked through their items on two different occasions to consider which clothing to offer. One thing in particular were female blazers, there were a several in store so I found this strange because I brought in clothing to sell, (with original tags still attached) only to have them turned away. The other things they accepted, like a "gently used" Adidas backpack, they offered me $6.40 for when I saw similar bags selling for $15 on their racks, WTF?! Sorry but I agree with the other reviews about the employees lacking tact. After looking through my clothing, the employee heaped everything back into my container, then immediately turned around & helped someone else. WITHOUT EVEN SAYING ANYTHING! NOT EVEN "ONE MOMENT PLEASE"! I took everything back out & folded it while waiting. When she came back, her friend walked in, made her way in front of me as if I didn't exist (the lack of situational awareness baffled me) the employee actually had to say to her friend "One minute, I'm helping her." Then she proceeded to offer me $27.80 for 9 items (see photo). In summary, I'd shop here because it's Earth friendly, but I'm not sure if I'll be selling my items here when I'd honestly rather donate them to a charity run thrift shop to be paid in good vibes (peace sign emoji). read more

Plato's is such a rip off. The girls there are rude. So if you went to high school with them and they didn't really like you then they'll not even look for your clothes and tell you it's ready in about 10 minutes which is extremely petty. you're in your workplace I've brought in numerous namebrand items and they didn't take them at all. The clothing is way too expensive anyways for a recycle store. read more

They are very misleading when it comes to buying your clothes. I had 2 bags of hardly worn clothes ( some still had tags), mostly Calvin Klein and Liz Claiborne. They only took a couple. The clothes on the racks looked like rags compared to mine. Don't waste your time! read more

I like this store! It has all sorts of clothing and great sales and prices! When I walk in there are so many different clothing to choose from but thats a good thing The shoe selection is really great . They have lots of different styles and options for all different types of ladies and gents . If you want to get some nice almost new clothing come check this place out The only draw back I have is that sometimes it is difficult to look thru the racks because there are so many clothing on them and they only take certain items so always check online before you try to go in and trade your clothing for cash. read more

This place use to be great. Every time I cleaned out my closet they purchased something. I was surprised when I went a few weeks ago and they told me straight up that none of my clothes were in fashion and that I need to get on line and see what the trends are these days. Excuse me? It was okay. My first visit. Seems like they cater to much younger people than me. I at first I thought I had some clothes that I could bring, but after looking at their preferred brand list, and seeing what they have to sell, it's mostly very casual or athletic. No classic or work clothes..I'm sure they have never heard of Chaus. I did find a sweatshirt and a winter vest that I purchased. Might or might not return, sales "girls" were just that, very young girls who do not have a clue how to interact helpfully with customers. My 13 year old loved it! Prices aren't as cheap as some consignment stores but much better than retail. I felt a little out of place in there, (I'm 42). I asked the staff about longer shorts (the staff all looked to be late teens early 20s) and they gaped at me as if I had 3 heads. So all in all... I had been hearing about Plato's Closet. Finally checked one out. Store is huge but of course most of it is women's. The men's section was actually nice. I am more of a thrift store shopper. Plato's is a step up from thrift stores and a step down from retail...if that makes sense. The prices are higher than Goodwill and definitely higher than Salvation Army. But the clothes are worth it. The best thing was that the clothes did not have that thrift store musty smell that you often find. I did not find anything this trip but definitely will be back. I agree with most of the reviews. It is a good place to shop when they have sales. However, they are very picky about what they purchase and will give you pennies for your stuff and turn around and sell it at a huge markup. I guess that is the business, but the stuff they turn away is sometimes better than what is on the racks. They need a better system of determining what will sell instead of their own personal vibe! the staff is immature and not the friendliest. Although I have encountered some that were professional and courteous. I will NEVER sell my clothes to them. I'd rather gift or donate my gently used items. read more

I typically have a good experience buying from this store, but selling here is absolutely horrible. There have been two separate occasions where it seems that the associates didn't even look through what I had brought in. Nothing had look disturbed whatsoever when I looked after they gave me their rehearsed "You had a lot of great items, but unfortunately " speech. It was only confirmed when I returned when a different set of associates were working and items were bought from the same piles that had been rejected earlier, only this time I didn't leave the store and come back. read more

I tried to sell some really nice, designer items there today because according to their website, these were the types of items they wanted. We were barely spoken to and my 300 dollar leather jacket was just thrown into a plastic bin. We never once got the process explained to us and were offered only 65 dollars for everything I brought in. All designer and in excellent condition. And the idiot left off the leather jacket. VERY disappointed and I would advise them to make adjustments to their website because it is highly, HIGHLY misleading. read more

just had an unpleasant encounter with a sales associate at the Newnan ga location, my friend and I dropped off our clothes 5:45 were told to return in 30 minutes we arrive 6:15 sharp and are dismayed to discover they are closed the sales girl is processing our clothes as we can see through the window she makes eye contact with us and then proceeds to wave us off knowing that is our clothes in her hands . then walks to the door and rudely tells us to leave we then explain the time table to her and what had happened and then she with an attitude tells us to grab our stuff and go and slung my jewerly across the counter . my first problem is that did not accurately inform me of when to return and then rejected my business with an attitude . my really question is were they not going to inform me that they were gonna keep my stuff ? absolutely ridiculous . read more

A week or so ago I was in this area for a family reunion. I was having lunch with my mother, my sister and my niece, who was turning 17 in a couple of days. When we were leaving, my niece spotted the Plato's Closet and asked if we could stop. I agreed because I had told her earlier that day if she found something she wanted, I would buy it and that would be my birthday present to her. My mother is elderly and uses a walker to get around. She also takes medication that sometimes causes her to have to urinate frequently. Despite her limitations, she tries to stay as active as possible by spending time with her family. When we entered the store, we were greeted pleasantly by a clerk behind the counter. My sister then asked the clerk if my mother could use their restroom. She was told "we don't have one". I'm sure what she meant to say was that their restroom was for employees only. My sister asked again politely if they could make an exception for our mother, and was told "there is a shopping center across the highway where she can find a bathroom". Really? They wanted my elderly disabled mother to cross a six-lane highway with her walker to find a bathroom and then walk back to rejoin my niece with her shopping excursion? I understand that this is a business run mostly by teenagers whose clientele is mostly teenagers. I also understand that they don't serve food, so therefore by law they don't have to provide a restroom for their customers. What I don't understand is how you can be so rigid with your rules, policies, business practices, etc, that you can't make the occasional exception. In all businesses, I believe there has to be a human factor involved. I mean we all have or had mothers right? I seriously doubt that you want your mother or grandmother to be treated in such a thoughtless way. Therefore, this particular Plato's Closet gets a 1-star rating. read more
