This location had a great variety and selections. I would say they were quite organized with how everything was set up in each aisle. They also had a decent amount of things on clearance and I definitely took advantage of that. The only thing that has changed recently is that they don't give you bags anymore and you have to purchase them unless u spend over $100. Speaking on behalf of the mens section as the ladies section seems abundant and probably has good finds. It is definitely a small selection and it's a treasure hunt at the end of the day. I've found decent items sometimes but also have gone in there and it was a waste of time. This was my first time visiting Platos Closet and I am definitely coming back. The store is cleaner than most second hand stores. Everything was naively arranged on the rank, organized by sized, color, and type of garment. There were clothes from expensive brands like free people and madewell. I was highly impressed with the selection. I also did not find a single piece of clothing with a stain on it. Some of the clothes had never been worn before. There were also changing rooms to try things on. This Platos Closet did a great job of upkeep and maintaining a clean, presentable store. read more

Plato's Closet on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston is a great place for all things used and vintage clothing at really good values. I like their selection and it is always worth a visit to see all of the new items that they get in. I have found some really good items at good prices here and have been satisfied with all of the purchases that I have made from here. They make it easy to look good. read more

Great spot! I was not looking so much as to the selections they had but wanted to see the price value for some clothes I had to offer. They took about 1/3 of the items for about $174. This store is massive. There are a ton of options - shoes, accessories, bags! This is a typical Platos Closet - they cram tons of clothing racks into the space so you're constantly stuck behind people and having little pedestrian traffic jams. The staff is friendly and it's a bigger, cleaner and cooler store than I've seen from the company before. read more

Largest plato's I have ever been to. staff= exceptional they offered to hold my items for me till i wanted to try them on (saw me struggling with arms full of clothes). Every single employee that was there that day was beyond nice to me (which is more than i can say for other plato's closets i've been to) clothing selection = good, not great the women's section was large and the clothes were good quality and cute style. The men's section, however, was very small and lacking. BUT, that being said, they did have signs up asking for more men's clothes! So at least they're working on it. read more

I've been a Plato's shopper for over 5 years but recently started visiting store #80494 on Rivers Ave when I moved here. I'm NEVER looking to sell anything. I like to buy new or pre-owned items for my eBay store. For the 2nd time in a row, you walk in & never greated. No hello or anything. Plato's is such a scam. I brought in FOUR bags of clothes/shoes & they literally took 2 pairs of shoes for $7 ... everytime they tell me things are out of style or have too much ware. There were things in my bags with tags and/or have only been worn ONCE! The girl going through the clothes didn't even look at half of the clothes, she just picked them up & threw them back in my bags. SUCH A SCAM! read more

3 gigantic bags, many new never worn articles. They didn't take a single item because it was "too worn". Total waste of time!!

My daughter and I stopped in here for the first time and were really surprised at the great selection of clothing. We found several Vineyard Vines Shep shirts for $30-45 (usually $98-125). They had a good selection of North Face, Lilly Pulitzer (and not all of it was up front in the Lilly section) and so much more. I even found an inexpensive Patagonia Re-tool pullover. We will definitely be back in the future to see what else they get in stock. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised when I stopped in here while making the shopping rounds. I expected this place to be terrible, just because of its location, but it is definitely worth the visit! I found some awesome Lilly Pulitzer dresses (for $40 bucks!), tons of jewelry, and a million pairs of shoes. They had a very large selection and the store was extremely organized and clean. Everything is organized in a way that you don't have to dig through piles, which is always a plus! I'll definitely be bringing by some of my barely worn shoes, since they seem to love all the same brands I do! Also, I was greeted as soon as I walked in by a very friendly staffer! they are finally wearing masks, but the staff at this one is really judgmental & the selection is always slightly outdated. not to mention we waited over an hour for them to offer both me & my friend minimal buys. we were really surprised when we got back to our car and discovered that they did not buy our mint condition american eagle jeans, a brand new earthbound sweatshirt, or any of the vintage aesthetic wild fable stuff included in our bags. genuinely really confused, as a lot of the stuff i saw in this store had a lot of wear and wasn't necessarily trending. i really do not recommend selling here, and i really hope the management improves because the employees do not seem happy. update: i did purchase something while in the store, and i discovered today that there was a nail polish stain on the bottom. pretty peeved, as they accepted something with a hard to remove stain & couldn't take any of my mint, trendy items? odd. won't return. read more

I rarely have a pleasant experience here. Customer service is consistently poor and the workers make me feel like a hassle. This Plato's is extremely difficult to sell to... I brought in several of boxes of name brand clothes and never received any notification that my clothes were done being sorted and had to return to the store 3 hours later to see if they were finished... While I understand not all clothes resell well, only two pieces out of dozens were kept, and I was given no explanation as to why the remainder of quality name brand items were returned. I will be selling my clothes elsewhere and do not recommend this shopping experience to anyone. read more

I literally brought in BRAND NEW clothes from Forever21, Charlotte Russe, Windsor, H&M that I had never worn after purchase and they ended up telling me they weren't able to purchase any of it because the clothes looked like they'd been worn a couple of times and looked older than 2 years. And right then and there I really wanted to tell the girl that all the pieces were purchased within 3 months. I really don't understand the process of how they determine what's worth buying or not but it literally shocked me when the girl said they couldn't buy any of it. I'm a broke college student trying to make ends meet you can at least buy one item and I'd be fine with it I will give you this, Plato's Closet, you're a great place to go to shop for cute clothes for great prices , but you're terrible when it comes to you buying other people's clothes because it doesn't fit your definition of "fashion." read more

I've shopped here and the have some reasonable priced stuff to stuff that's basically a steal. I drove over an hour to this location to try and sell my stuff. They told me it was going to take 25 min to 30 minuets for them to look through my stuff and literally 15 minuets later they texted saying my buys were ready. I brought in two baskets and they picked out three items...it was definitely not worth the freaking drive. My husband said they didn't even look through it they picked up items not even looking at them and putting them back. They said my stuff was not in season and very outdated. My stuff wasn't even a year old! But they took one of my husbands shirts that he bought back in 2013. Lol. Never again! read more

A delightful store for younger fashions (teens and early 20's), mostly girl clothing/shoes. I came here to sell some of my clothing/shoes since I wear small sizes..they analyze your stuff and put your name on the wall when they are done. They pay cash on the spot..no messing around with setting up and trying to keep up with a consignment account. Most of my stuff was declined for being "adult", they are looking for teen styles, like outfitters, old navy, gap...They did take a new pair of wedge ankle boots and a hoodie I had..I figured anything cash I got was more than I would get donating to goodwill. Clothes brought in should be in boxes or crates..no trash bags or on hangers. You can leave clothes and come back the same day..any clothes left overnight will be donated. People are handled walk in basis, wait times can vary. I waited about 15-20 minutes on a Sunday within the hour they opened at 12 noon. Items for sale in the store are almost new looking and I like the way they hung their jeans sideways at the top so you can view the size and brand tags easily. The purses are hung on a rod with shower rings on the straps so you can just slide them to view without having to take the purse off a rod to get to ones behind. I like to shop at this location and find that they have some nice stuff if you have the time to look. I find their buying practices a little biased. I recently took a big bag of fairly new clothes in to sell and they didn't take a single item. This has happened to me a few times now even though I am carrying in mall brands that are almost new. I'm a really big bargain hunter when it comes to clothes and I find it fun to shop at second hand stores because you never know what you will find! I mean c'mon.. doesn't everyone like a good deal for named brand clothes? Selling your clothes: They are very picky about what they buy (which is understandable). It has to be in good condition and must be current (I think it can't be older than a year). They take brands like Forever 21, H&M, Urban Outfitters, Victoria Secret, etc.. They give you cash on the spot! I have sold a couple of items, but for the most part I just buy. Buying: All the items are coordinated by the item and the size. If you are looking for a specific brand, they are mixed in. I think this makes it fun. They often have really good Clearance sales. They have the 10 clearance items for $20. Also..the grab bag sale. All the Clearance items that you can stuff into a bag is for $15! I have yet to attend one of grab bag sales, but I would like to in the future. I think they do it twice a year. Now for the most part, the clothes are in great condition. I have found one or two items in the store to be "picked" or faded, but that only happened one time I was in there. Like I said, they are pretty picky about what they buy...which is a good thing for the buyer! The staff is always friendly and helpful when I go in there. This playtos closet is not good I don't know if it's because they are located in Charleston and they think they are to have a certain upscale snoby attitude but I have been to this store about three times seeking to make a donation exchange transaction and all three times they denied my items. The first time I came when I first moved down here I had a pair of close to new Adidas black and white stripped sneakers and they originally valued at $80 brand new they hardly had any scuffs on them and they didn't even take them. Then the second time I came in here I had some gently used designer name brand clothes and skinny jeans I purchased from Forever 21 and the girl said that they were not able to buy them because they weren't in seasoned or the style they were looking for. The third time I came in thinking optimistically with a designer Tommy Hilfiger gently used purse and a sweater and some stelettos from Charlotte Russe. Once again I was told that the items were not in season and that they only accept brand new clothes which I think is absurd because they never use to treat people this way before I use to do even exchanges and no problems now plato's Closet expects people to literally buy something brand new off the shelf and then take into them. I have a couple other friends that nolonger like Plato's closet due to poor treatment at plato's Closet. They had the same experience one of my good friends went to a different location, had a brand new pair of Steve Madden designer boots and they turned it down and wouldn't even take the boots as if some how they weren't good enough. And my nieghbor came to this exact same location and had some gently used nice name brand clothes and they did the exact same thing made to feel like it's worth crap and now neither of them like plato's Closet. I don't know what is going on with this franchise store but I think its crooked and they need to revaluate what the original purpose of creating this type of store was for. If they think that people are going to go out of there way to buy a brand new $200 -$500 Michael Kors, Lui Vuitton, or Coach purse and then instantly turn around and sell it to them brand new so that they can sell it marked down for $100 less then they can think again. Nobody with common sense would do that unless maybe on drugs. ( makes you wonder.) Most people arent going to take a very expensive designer purse or clothing only to have it sold for hundreds of dollars less.. I am very disappointed in this franchise store chain and I feel they aren't what they use to be 5 yrs ago. Maybe if more people would speak up they'll change. I really don't see them to be much different than a thrift store to begin with except the fact that you have a chance to make money if they didn't become so snoby thru the years with picking thru what items they choose. read more
