Only gave the 2nd star because the cashier was so kind. I have shopped here for years, but something has sure changed for the worst. Prices are insane. Greed shows on every tag. 30.00 for a skirt?!?! 34.00 plus for a set of 4 pioneer woman coffee mugs?!?! Thats more than new at walmart it's self! 13.00 for a book?! this manager is for sure a liability for this store. I heard lots of chatter among shoppers saying this same thing. Pricing is way out of control. I personally wont be back until this manager is gone. Hopefully he doesn't run the store in the ground first. I will personally tell people to shop else where, as It's obvious we can all get better deals some place else. read more

Stopped in for the first time when some family was in town, as they love looking for good finds in thrift stores. It's a large space, separated into different areas for different items - shoes, decor, furniture, books, etc. It was a little on the messy side, but it was busy. My family found somethings they really liked and the staff was fine. Nothing crazy, nothing terrible. It's a thrift store if you're into that. haha read more

I have been going to this thrift store for about eight years and I've found some great stuff and there's usually a good selection, it could be kind of dirty sometimes but whatever. It was better than the goodwill in my town. I hadn't been in a while and when I went today I found out they don't have dressing rooms anymore, which is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to take the gamble of buying something, taking it home to find out how it fits, and not being able to return it. I don't feel like trying on stuff over my clothes in the aisles unless its a jacket or something, and even if I did there's no mirror to look in. Please bring back the dressing rooms :( read more

Leaving home from vacation stopped in my 7 year old found a polar bear stuffy and wanted it i spent 68$ for the lady to ring us up and say we can get the stuffy bear because the price tag wasnt on it! I dont believe that was right store policy or not she could of priced it the same as the other stuffy i bought same size if not smaller read more

In the seven years since I last reviewed Community Thrift Store, I've gotten some great finds. I even got my favorite pair of jeans EVER here. I outgrew them on the campaign trail (thanks, endless Girl Scout Cookies!), but the good thing about a thrift store find is that you never spend much on it. Community Thrift was my go-to thrift store in the area. They mark items down- so you have a chance to get a deal if something's been sitting on the shelf for a while. Some sale items are $1-3. The items also have different pricing structures. Other thrift stores charge the same amount for every pair of ladies pants, shirts, shoes, etc. Community Thrift bases the price on condition and brand name- or at least they try to. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the inventory. Unfortunately, the Vera Bradley handbags are just under the price of a new one at the nearby outlet. On my most recent visit, it was clear that a Lularoe "hun" liquidated her inventory in the donation bin. Those silly patterned leggings were everywhere. On other visits, I've found high-end brand name clothes with the tags still on them. The main reason for three stars is that the dressing rooms are gone. This is a permanent change and NOT due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, I hauled 5-6 pairs of pants around the store with me hoping to try them on before the workers let me know. Since there are no dressing rooms, people try on the clothes over what they have on (which the employees say is fine), but there's no designated area for that. People wear a tank top and leggings, then try clothes on when blocking aisles, or they find a quiet corner to try on. It's tough to justify $6-8 on pants at a thrift store when I can't try them on or return them, though. When I checked out, the cashier told me the Summerville location has dressing rooms open, so I'll check it out. I bought a few tops, so the visit wasn't a total loss, but it won't be my go-to spot for shorts, pants, or dresses. read more

If you're down for the hunt, this is a great thrift store. It's well organized but it's big and can take a while to go through the racks, but it's worth it because the prices are so good. Thrift stores are always hit or miss, but they always seem to be putting out new stock. Plus they have a large furniture section too. My last time in I found 6 matching metal folding chairs with vinyl cushions on them... all matching and in decent shape. Perfect for extra seating the the yard when I have a bbq. I think I paid $2 a piece for them! The staff is super nice too. The guy grabbed them for me and gave me a slip to pay when I was done and then loaded them into my car out front. read more

As I have stated in other reviews, I'm a thrifter. We like to give this location a few months between visits. Why? Because they get SO much stuff it gets overwhelming to get around. That's not a bad hint, Except for my bank account and home space. We have found the best deals on entertainment centers and cookery. I have found most of my Pyrex and Corning-wear from this location. Note: always check the bagged items on the shelves if you are looking for good deals on higher priced items like baking items because they lump them together (often still in original packaging) and Lot price them. We have an entire cookie making operation funded off this thrift store lot bags! Yes it is always full of people and there is a lot of filler type furniture but if you are needing that 99 cent cash and carry bachelor recliner, I saw one yesterday! read more

This is a great thrift store: large selections, organized layout, and affordable prices. There is even a decent selection of kids' clothes, which is not common for many thrift stores. There is a mixture of name brands. As long as you are not too set on the name brand and come with a fun browsing attitude, you will likely find something. read more

There was a really good selection of clothes in good to great condition. most clothing items were under $5. I got several items for $1.99-$3.99. But please remember to remove any tags from new never worn items when you donate, because items with new tags are sold for significantly more. For example, there was a Liz Claborn sweater brand new with tags being sold for $18.99 while all other tops on the rack were $1.99-$3.99. It was still an excellent price for that brand, however, I am on an extremely tight budget, so I opted out of buying it, so I could get more items. The store is very clean, and I didn't see very many things with stains or holes. But with almost every thrift store, you must inspect before purchasing. I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area. read more

This thrift store is almost like my second home, if we're being honest. I go whenever I have a chance to browse and see if anything catches my eye. Just today I found a pure wool red pea coat for only $6! I couldn't believe it and had to buy it. I've always had very pleasant and helpful service when shopping there. I have to say, their bathroom was surprisingly clean the one time that I used it. I've always tried to avoid the bathrooms in similar stores, and I can't vouch for the other 99% of the time. However, I was impressed and am slightly less terrified of the thrift store bathroom after that! I do suggest making multiple trips to this thrift store before you decide full on whether you like it or not. The key to "thrifting" is frequency, not the quality of one or two individual visits. There have been just as many times I've gone and found nothing as the times I find a great dress or groovy jumpsuit. Many of my friends don't like going there because they never find anything good. I just tell them it's because they don't go enough! It doesn't take long to stop by and take a quick walk around or flip through the clothes racks. Don't let one disappointing experience prevent you from going back. This is truly one of the best thrift stores in town (even compared to the other locations of Community Thrift I've been to). I'm giving it 5 stars because if the service, the bathrooms, and the prices. It makes goodwill seem high-end! Happy thrifting! read more

The selection is pretty picked-through, or maybe the donations are just mediocre (lots of Walmart and target brands, 90s leftovers, etc) but I did manage to find a Michael Michael Kors top and a Prabal Gurung x Target top. The prices are certainly right; most things aren't over 5 or 6 dollars. read more

Terrible customer service today. The manager James sucks at customer solutions. I am a valuable customer who buys truck loads of stuff, and all I asked was to keep a hanger on s night gown. I bought multiple items but only needed to keep the hangers on the one night gown. I understand that you recycle hangers but it was just one dam hanger dude. Walmart recycles hangers but will still allow customers to keep it if asked. James made it very clear that he didn't care how loyal of a customer I am, and that one hanger was worth my business. Than sarcastically told me to have a good night. The hispanic cashier Sonia needs to work on her people skills as well. Zero stars for me, I will not shop here again. read more

Everybody's very helpful and friendly in there except for those five ladies that work there. The furniture dudes once old and the other ones older. But they are not pushy salespeople. Yeah you know definitely not pushy. In fact it's kind of like they're not even there. You really need to watch the prices as they do tend to over price some items. I think they forget that they are a second hand store and the items they sell are donated to them, therefore they make a 100% profit on everything. I think they should price their items accordingly. read more

Don't bother applying for a job unless you can put in 40 hrs. They ALWAYS have a sign up at the Rivers Ave location, and the website under employment says hiring full time and part time. I already work a full time job but have been looking for something one day a week to help supplement. So I put in an application willing to work from open to close every Saturday. Give the man my application tell him what I'm looking for and he says no that they only hire full time. So I tell him that the website says full time and part time he tells me they don't have a website. Weird that someone in a management position doesn't know this. Then after I educate him I have to show him where it says it and he still tells me they only hire full time. It's pretty messed up that 4 people were suppose to start this week and a cashier tells me they didn't show up. So rather than hire someone that is reliable and willing to work a 10 hr day open to close on their busiest day of the week, they would rather remain short staffed. Guess I should be relieved, It must be a crappy place to work if they can't get or keep employees. read more

It makes me so happy to know that there are still thrift stores like this one fighting the good fight, refusing to slap a $3.50 price tag on a hideous cheetah print number just because it falls into the "Ladies' Blouse" category. Community Thrift Store represents a long but endangered tradition of warehouse-style cheap-as-hell last-stop-on-the-tracks merchandise recycling, one that Goodwill with its standardized pricing threatens to eradicate (though I still love them). You can still find a kickass irreverent t-shirt at Community Thrift for 99 cents, sometimes even slashed back to 65 cents. I make it my business to look through almost every rack in the store, because chances are that something inspiring and nearly free is hiding there, unnoticed, just waiting for me. Those with dust and grime allergies or aversions to society's least common denominator should stick to vintage and consignment stores. This one is the real deal. But because we always see the faults of those we love, I have to mention that their furniture prices are often ridiculous (I wouldn't pay $79.99 for that NEW), and you're not always guaranteed to find a treasure. Still, we seasoned thrifters must do what we can to help keep this polyester palace alive and well. read more

This place is FREAKIN AWESOME. I almost don't want to review it for fear that it will be plundered, but that's just not the Yelp spirit. I'm starting a new job and needed some new work clothes - I got 10 items (Including 2 pairs of awesome heels in great condition) for $30. One was a pair of Banana Republic pants for 99 cents! They've got everything under the sun and their sign boasts 2500 new items a day. Totally worth checking out. Also, the Asian market next store is pretty awesome too. I love this place and I almost always find something to take home. It's well-organized and the prices are typically great. They don't follow a standardized pricing formula like Goodwill, which means that some items are expensive, but you can also buy clothes for as cheap as 99 cents per item. Awesome place to look for baby clothes, door wreaths, seasonal decor, and miscellaneous office supplies. It's not the most pristine place, but the staff is nice and usually the people-watching is entertaining. If you're shopping for clothes at peak hours, expect long lines at the dressing rooms (there are 3). I recommend wearing something you can try clothes on over, and using the mirrors outside the dressing rooms to avoid the lines. read more

The prices were very good except if there is no price you are out of luck. If there is no price on an item the keep it to price and return it to the floor the next business day. It is not the customer's responsibility to inform them of items that are not priced just to be told they can't buy the item and that they have to return the following day to purchase it. Who is going to make a point to return the next day just to search the floor for their 3 dollar item? I left the store very unhappy that I could not purchase the items i wanted. I gave them an extra star because otherwise they have a lot of items priced fairly. read more

What a pleasant surprise! We enjoyed browsing this location. Great prices and organized so well. Good quality and a lot of name brand clothing and shoes. The jewelry in the front case is fun to look at too. High end purses are kept behind the registers but if you ask they will show you what you want to see. The prices for the furniture here are VERY reasonable. Some young couple could rack up here if they are in need of starting up. No returns, but that is to be expected. read more

I have shopped here many times but something changed. This store has the worst management and the prices are over the top now . It's almost like they are so concerned with profit now that people do not matter. The manager today was rude and talked down to me when I asked him about a dress that the tag fell off of while trying it on. I was refused to be allowed to buy it even though the staple was in it and I had the tag that fell off. I felt so discriminated against. The whole time he talked to me he spoke down to me. I will never shop here again. I asked to speak with the owner but he wouldn't come out of his office because he was on lunch break. A paying customer does not matter to him. Be warned women of North Charleston. By all means shop here if you want to be discriminated against and talked to with disrespect and disdain. But I expect to be spoken to with respect and eye to eye. Bad management and dirty store. Never again!!!! read more

So here's the deal. Great for electronics and housewares. The clothes are pretty reasonable too. THE FURNITURE IS RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED!! They currently have a set for $500.00!!! At a thrift store!!! It's not that nice!!! Stained!!! They have been driving their prices on furniture up and up, and it's just a joke at this point. Go to bargain mart on Rivers or Betty's Antiques on Rivers as well for a much better deal. Bargain Mart has a canoe outside, and their prices for used-not really antique furniture are the best in Summerville and NoCho. Betty's is VERY crowded and eclectic, and if you want to do some serious antiquing, it's the best in the neighborhood. Try to talk 'em down though, I was in antiques for years, and they're playing the market with their mark-up. It's about 10-15% higher than it should be. read more
