Took my clothes here to sell with them. I dropped them off in plastic bags. Whenever I went in to see how much they were going to offer me for them, I declined. Instead of politely taking my clothes out of the bin, the employee quite literally flipped the bin upside down, dumping my clothes on the counter. Customer service was amazing! The wait was about a 20-35 minute wait. They had such a wide variety of clothes and just about anything you could possibly need!! I brought in a huge laundry basket of clothes and they took about 40% of the clothes for $48. Overall, great service! read more

I have been a customer here since I started at PSU undergrad. As an underclassman, I would often hear stories about negative experiences. I never had any issues, but I usually keep to myself when I shop anyways. One day, about a month ago, I walked in looking for a specific style of denim. I was greeted cheerfully at the door and whoever helped me (sorry I forget their name) was quiet but helpful. I heard they underwent new management around the end of 2020, so I wonder if the new boss made some improvements. Idk. I have really enjoyed my experience within the past year. I googled Plato's to see what the hours were and saw they had shite reviews on yelp. figured I would help them out with something a little more current. read more

I finally made it to Plato's Closet, after passing by it for months. I had signed up for their text message alerts, and they were doing a deal where all clearance items were $1! How fantastic is that! I scored a maxi dress and three tank tops for $1 each, no tax = $4. I was ecstatic! There is a TON of stuff in the store, some are reasonably priced, some are not. You have to be willing to sift through all the items so not for the faint at heart. Most tops go for about $5, dresses $8-$10... and so on. It all depends on the condition and brand. read more

Plato's Closet is worth shopping at. I found a brand new Francesca's dress for $18 with the tag still on. I also got some nice Vera Bradley stuff there. I sold about 30 items for $80, which I was happy with. However, every time I go in, I am not impressed with the customer service. When I went in to sell my items, I was not greeted. The lady working seemed annoying that I was there. She simply told me to have my ID ready and fill out the form. Didn't say hi or anything. The workers are consistently unpleasant. Other than that, I like the store and have gotten some nice things there. They just really could work on being more polite. read more

This store has a large variety of clothing, and some good deals from time to time. However, there are so many issues with costumer service that make this place a real turn-off. The employees are just a group of clique-y teenagers who just gossip and chat with each other behind the counter, backs turned to any costumer who may need assistance. Hell, they don't even bother greeting anyone coming in! Every time I go in, whoever's working seems annoyed that I'm there, making the atmosphere super uncomfortable and not suitable for shopping. While it's understandable that they cannot accept everything you bring in, they'll straight up lie to you about why they passed on certain items. Excuse me, how could clothes that have had yet to be worn and still have tags on them be "too old/worn down"??? Also when they are sorting through items, I've overheard them them laughing and making snide comments about whoever brought them in! There definitely needs to be some attitude adjustments, as costumer satisfaction is clearly not a top priority around here. read more

I have never had a good experience at Plato's closet as a seller. This past fall I took a bunch of clothes up, about 2 garbage bags full, and they took I believe 4 items and gave me like $21 dollars. I wouldn't be upset if it wasn't for the fact that all of what I took up were name brand, not cheap clothing. Also a couple of the items still had tags on due to them never being worn. The funny thing was they took most of my older items! This had happened to me almost every time I went to Plato's so finally I asked what the issue with the other articles were and I was given a generic answer of "they're not easy sellers or they're too old". REALLY?! They had taken the older items in the bin to begin with! This place is ridiculous. read more

First time ever here...made it 30 minutes before closing time. We were greeted at the door with "we are closing in 30 minutes" a couple minutes into looking for a pair of jeans for my son. I asked where the fitting room was and was told "we are closing soon" I stated "I am aware of that. We will be quick" clerk walked away without telling me where the fitting room was. Went to the counter to pay and AGIAN was told "we are closing soon" I left my one item on the counter and stated " then you won't have time to ring this up" and left. Was pissed, will NEVER be back! read more

I enjoy the prices and recycling clothes (it's great for the environment) but I was told I would have a 15 minute wait... I've been here for over an hour waiting for them to look through 4 small bags of clothes. I'm extremely confused. I wouldn't have waited around if they were honest about the wait time. I could have let my dog out. Update: two hours later I got my stuff and left. read more

Horrible customer service! Employees ignore you and are busy chatting to each other. They make you wait an hour and rarely take items. A serious waste of time!!! I would just donate to goodwill because it's not worth the annoying experience going to Platos. read more

Sometimes they have great stuff cheap and others it's really expensive for used clothes. On occasion I've taken a brand new shirt in with tags and they dont accept it being walmart brand or an older style, yet walking through the store I'll find the same shirt that is super worn. Many times I've found stains and holes which is frustrating when they won't take my super nice clothes! read more

I brought in bags of very nice items. Prior to selling, I thoroughly looked through each of my items to ensure they were within the past year to year and a half, as well as checking the quality, style, and wear. Not only did they price my items incredibly low in comparison to the original price ( I received less than 30% ), but they were also very rude. The lady at the register had an attitude when I asked why my items were passed on and truly brushed me off. I understand this business and love the idea behind it, but I ultimately feel ripped off by purchasing my nice items at an incredibly low price. I don't believe they looked up my items to see the original price in order to know how much of it to give me ( they say they price the items 50-70% retail and offer you 30% of that). If you have quality items that you spent a lot of $$ on, I wouldn't recommend selling them here because you will not receive your fair share.The trade is not worth it in my eyes. I am incredibly disappointed with my visit today knowing I brought in items that collectively were worth more than 200$ and I only received less than $30. read more

For the first time in about a year, I decided to sell some items I hardly wear anymore. All of my clothing was brand names, most had the tags on them, and almost every item was bought within a few months to a year. The first time I went there (on Tuesday, the 20th), a girl took most of my clothing (probably about 40 items) and offered me a measly $60. She also had passed on plenty of brand new items. I was told the styles were toon hard to sell. Yet these items were purchased less than a year ago. So, that's unlikely. I again go back on Thursday, the 22nd with the same items that were passed on my last visit. Again, the same items were passed on because they were "too hard to sell". Annoyed, I left. I then go back yesterday, the 26th, with the same items. The girl took EVERY SINGLE ITEM they had passed on twice. However, the passed on brand new black Nike sneakers, aldo sandals, Victoria's Secret and a bunch of other items. I got very upset!! I told them this was completely unacceptable that I have to come in THREE TIME for them to take my things. Yet STILL passed on brand new items. The boy working started getting very rude with me and defending himself in a very unprofessional manner. He mentions that the items taken are subject to the buyer. However, EACH AND EVERY EMPLOYEE should be trained on what TO and what NOT to take. A customer shouldn't have to try that many times to sell items in perfect condition. Overall, my experience was absolutely appalling. I could not believe how rude their employees are. The new owner should consider hiring employees who have some class and respect for customer's concerns. Maybe if they stopped clustering in a little group chatting, they'd actually know how to do their job read more

I bought a Michael Kors purse at Plato's about a month or two ago, I decided to try to sell it back because I didn't have a use for it anymore, the girl told me she couldn't purchase it because she couldn't authenticate it... I told her that I had purchased it there and she didn't seem to care, she just kept saying "um.. like do you have a receipt" I never really have a good experience with them, their customer service needs WORK. read more

Our experience with Plato's Closet has been ok. Have taken numerous items in to sell, some with tags still on and they refused them because it was "last years" style! HOW does a sweatshirt from Abercrombie go out of style, and same with jeans. It's hit or miss what they will accept which is annoying because some of the quality they have for sale sometimes is questionable. read more

This is a good place to get clothes for tweens, teens, and college students, but not so much for adults. There is some inconsistency in value and quality. Overall though, a good place to check out. read more

If I could rate this a zero star rating, I would! Just left off a 30 gallon garbage bag of name brand clothes and some clothes even still had tags on them, never worn and they told me it was about a 30 minute wait. I came back 30 minutes later for them to tell my clothes were "too worn" and that it would be hard for them to resell. They kept three of my items and gave me $5.40 for it, all while telling me my items were not in good condition to resell even though I had some items in my bag from H&M still with tags on them! I used to be able to take garbage bags there and one time walked out with $60! The girls working were very rude and not friendly nor helpful. They seemed very irritated and the one was at the register complaining about her last job and how she got fired from it! Very unprofessional! I will no longer be taking my business there! read more

I will start by saying that I am an avid shopper. I love clothes and I shop all over and have been all over the United States. I must say that I have little to no respect for the people that work in the State College store. They talk about customers and one another. They lie to your face for reasons why they won't buy your clothes when clearly they are in style and still selling in the stores. They sell in their store themselves and not cheap. These are top of the line clothing. I recently decided to test them by bringing a couple of my MISS ME jeans, one pair in like new condition which they have a pair of in their store selling for $40 and is not so nice condition and they offered me $8 for each pair. The other pair I just bought from them a month ago for $40. I paid over $100 for the first pair. They said they are old. They were not. I brought in BKE jeans and Silver jeans and American Eagle, Hollister, Abercrombie clothing and Born shoes etc. They refused to buy any of it. They said some of the stuff was worn and outdated. I don't own worn clothing. I'm not a snob, I just don't wear worn out clothing. Most all my clothing I brought back I bought from this store in the last 4 months. I have probably close to $7000 in clothing in my own closet. Some things have never been worn. Also, while they went through my clothing, they rolled my clothing up and threw it in the bag. I had it all folded. So I didn't appreciate that at all. I usually visit your store every 6 weeks and between then, I travel around the state to your other Plato's and none of them treat people the way this store does. The other stores buy your clothing and they are courteous towards you. Your commercial also says "we buy all seasons, all the time" Which you don't. Depends who you ask and if they like you. I also don't believe for a minute your computers tell you what to give people as a buy back and what is over a year old. I also don't believe two exact items both priced the same and only one is on clearance that you can tell me that the one had been in your store for over a year. Impossible. I am not stupid. I will take my business elsewhere. You just lost about $100-200 every 6 weeks from me. Honestly, you never know when someone is testing you or not. This was a test and you failed miserably. After a while, a person gets tired of being taken advantage of, made a fool of, and just flat disrespected. Not a good way to maintain a business. Very unprofessional. read more

I will probably never shop in the State College store ever again!!! I took some pretty awesome clothing over to sell and buy some things while I was there. I was totally taken advantage of and I did not realize until after I had already left as they did not/ will not show you what they are willing to buy from you!! They took a pair of men's rock revival never worn, 2 pr of ladies miss me's gently worn, a pr of silver jeans worn once, a pr of high waisted american eagle jeans never worn, an affliction shirt for men, an american fighter beanie never worn and a VS "Pink" outfit and they paid me $42.42!!!! needless to say I was pissed!!! If I didn't live an hour away or would of looked in my bag as to what was taken I would of went right back and got my stuff back!!! Lesson learned and you will never take advantage of me again!!! Hopefully others will watch more closely when selling to you and realize how much you rip people off!!! read more
