When I bought my dress, I was thrilled to win a "free honeymoon" promotion that Formalities was offering in-partnership with Marketing Concepts. After filling out the paperwork and sending a check deposit, as requested, I worked with a representative to book an all-inclusive trip to Puerto Vallarta for $2,435.84, which I paid in full. Three days before leaving for our honeymoon, I had a bad feeling about the whole thing. This led me to calling the resort to confirm our reservation -- which thank goodness I did -- because we discovered that the whole trip was a scam and the travel agent had stolen our money. The representative not only stated this was a case of fraud, but admitted it had been happening for months to other clients from the company. This left us without our dream honeymoon and out $1,500 in nonrefundable airfare, on top of the money paid for the trip. I notified Tracina Fisher, the owner of Formalities, in hopes of preventing this from happening to other brides. While she initially expressed sympathy and asked how she and Peter Hayes (the Marketing Concepts Representative) could help, their tone quickly changed. When I asked if their companies could help recoup the $1,500 we lost--considering this situation never would have occurred without their promotion--they became extremely rude and blamed me instead of taking accountability for putting their customer through this situation. It's devastating to lose our dream honeymoon to fraud and even worse to feel abandoned by the businesses we trusted. While we are dealing with this issue with both federal and state authorities, I strongly urge anyone considering this store or promotion to proceed with caution. This experience has caused immense financial and emotional distress, and I hope it prevents others from suffering the same. read more

I have purchased multiple gowns from formalities and can't begin to tell you how great my experience was each time. They truly go above and beyond for every customer. I had an amazing morning at Formalities with my mom and sister last Friday. We booked an appointment for bridal dresses and were shown to a whole private back room. The woman working with us was so sweet and let us pick as many dresses as we wanted. She also helped me zip up every dress and she took each one out to go hang it back up if we voted "No" on it :) She and Tracina also picked a few dresses for me to try on to make sure I had a full range of styles to consider. Tracina was a gem and provided so much great input. My mom, sister, and I felt so special and taken care of all morning! I left the shop and told them I would give them a call about purchasing the dress once I had thought it over. I live in Chicago, but I am from the State College area and wanted my mom to be able to look at wedding dresses with me. I was a bit nervous that a smaller area would not have many dresses to look at, but I was completely wrong! Formalities had a ton of beautiful dresses, including the one dress I saw online that I was in love with. The first shop I went into with the first dress dress I tried on was the "one". This dress also was much cheaper than it would have been in Chicago. Everyone there was so friendly. My dress got a TON of compliments from total strangers all day. I'm new to the State College area and after not finding any truly "formal" dress shops downtown, I decided to take a chance & drive 15-20 minutes to Formalities due to seeing good online reviews. I wasnt a bit disappointed! I got there thinking I'd just "browse," doubting I'd even try anything on, but I ended up walking out with the perfect dress as well as jewelery, all for a great deal. Tracina was helpful the whole way through from helping me pick out dresses to try on, zipping all the backs up for me when trying them (about 12), and giving me super helpful opinions on each-- so I could narrow my choices to the perfect one. She also paired it perfectly with some jewelery, which was discounted. Overall WELL above average experience, and I'd 100% recommend to anyone! read more

I had a great experience from start to finish working with Tracina and all the Formalities staff I interacted with over the course of planning my wedding. Formalities was one of the first stops my mom and I made when I started trying on dresses, and I'm so glad it was! We lucked out in having Tracina there while I was trying on dresses, because she was so helpful in the process. Whether it was clipping the dresses to get a better idea of how they would look on me, or adding a veil to get the full effect, or wondering aloud about ease of alterations, she was ready to help with anything. I love the variety of dresses they have available to try on, and that there were plenty in my size or that could at least be clipped to give me an idea. The lighting and mirrors were great to see the dress from different angles. I ended up feeling torn between two dresses, both available to order through Formalities. I so appreciated the staff's patience with me as I came back a different day to try on both again! Once I decided on the dress & accessories, Formalities was great about helping me decide on sizing and ordering everything quickly for me. Everything arrived beautiful as expected. The seamstress who works out of the upstairs at Formalities worked some magic altering lace sleeves on my gown. I searched high and low for a wedding dress and finally fell in love with one from Formalities. A few weeks after purchasing the dress, I received a call from Lauren at Formalities informing me that I had won their raffle for the free dress during the national bridal sale event! They refunded the cost of the dress and continued to work with me throughout the year to make sure the dress looked exactly the way I wanted. Theresa (the seamstress) was flexible with her schedule as I had to drive from Virginia for my appointments and even made some last minute changes a few days before my wedding to make sure the dress fit perfectly. All of the employees at Formalities were professional and kind, even on days when the store was really busy. It was a joy to work with everyone at Formalities and I highly recommend visiting the shop for any of your bridal or prom needs! read more
